A link in the past

chapter 2

HYRULE PRESENT ERA

Zelda groaned as felt something poking her cheek.

"Hey, wake up, sleeping beauty." said a voice.

When she opened her eyes, she saw a stranger on top of her. Her first reaction? She punched him as she crawled away.

"Ouch! This is how you thank the one who saved your butt?!"

Zelda stands up and stares at the stranger. The stranger possesses an orange hair, red eyes and a pale blueish complexion with glowing tattoos on his body . He wears a hooded cloak and a pair of black pants. Zelda sees a sheathed sword hanging on the left side of his wrist.

"Who are you? And where's Link?" she demands for answers

The stranger only stared blankly at the princess and he was not amused. He sighed in frustration, muttering he has a lot of work to do.

"Look Zelda, isn't it? Link is fine, as far as I know. However he's not our priority at the moment."

"What?" Zelda is shocked; Link is not a priority? How dare he?! And mostly important, how does he know Link?

"Let's just say we're long time friends. However Princess, like I've said, he's not our priority at the moment. Our priorities are finding the sages, training you how to sword fight, find the Master Sword and get yourself prepared to be stronger enough to face the Demon King." said the stranger " And also to make sure you don't get yourself killed in the process. Link and Queen Sonia wouldn't forgive me."

Sages? Demon King? What was he talking about? The stranger groaned, he looked a bit annoyed at her.

"Geez.. for someone who loves studying about the past history of Hyrule, you're pretty clueless. How come you don't even know about the sages?" Then, he folded his arms as he remembered something important. "Then again, You father, what was his name again? Roman …Rokan…Rodan…" he was snapping his fingers, trying to remember the name correctly.

"Don't you mean King Rhoam?" Zelda asks.

"Rhoam! Yeah, that's right! Link had mentioned he stopped you doing your studies to focus to awaken your sealing power. The bastard did it in the wrong way, if you ask me. Anyway, I'm Loki, a Twili, I'm here at your service. " Loki bows to the princess. " Queen Sonia asked me to help you in your mission and this is what I am going to do."

HYRULE PAST ERA

Link was panting while fighting against the fever. He was trashing as he was having a nightmare, witnessing again the deaths of champions, one by one. Link tried to fight but the Master Sword shattered with the impact of Calamity's dark power, losing his arm in the process. Then the red haired demon appeared in front of Calamity Ganon.

"You're too late, hero. You failed to the champions and you failed to your princess." The red haired demon raises his arm, showing Zelda's decapitated head.

Link screamed in horror. The young hylian opened his eyes, scared as he quickly got up from the bed, panting.

"It was just a nightmare…. just a nightmare…" Link though

Then, he looked at his right arm and he saw it was gone. He placed his left hand on his bandaged stump, where his right arm used to be. It wasn't a nightmare; It was real. He looked around and he noticed he was in a very different place. Where was he?

"Oh, I see you're awake."

Link jumped away and he saw a dark skinned woman with long hair, and green eyes, wearing a green and white dress. Link could see he had tattoos in her body. And most important, her eyes, they kinda remind him of Zelda. Link blushed as the woman placed her hand on his forehead. She smiled at him.

"I am glad to see you're awake. And looks like the fever is gone as well. You made us all worried about you, dear." said the woman. "Oh, how rude I am. My name is Sonia, queen of Hyrule. What's your name, dear?"

Link blinked in confusion, queen? This is not possible, as far as he knew, all princesses and queens of Hyrule royal bloodline are named Zelda. Except for the first generations. He also remembered some members of the royal family had time based magic. He couldn't be in the past, could he?

"My name is Link, please, tell me what year it is?" link asks in sign language.

But Sonia couldn't understand what the meaning of the hand gestures Link was making. She asked him if he couldn't talk. Link shook his head, affirming he couldn't talk. Sonia offered a chalk and pointed to a blackboard.

"You know how to read and write, don't you?" Link nodded to her, picking the chalk. "You could write what you want to say on the blackboard. I am sure Mineru wouldn't mind using her blackboard."

Link has no idea who Mineru was but it was not important at the moment. He quickly wrote his name and his question on the blackboard, hoping the queen could understand him since it was very difficult writing with his left hand. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

"Sorry dear, I can't understand your writing either." said Sonia

Link really wanted to hit his head against the wall, in frustration. How can he communicate? Sonia suggested to see her husband and his sister, they could figure out how to communicate. While walking through the corridors, Sonia explained everything, how they had found him and how they saved him. The queen apologized for not being able to save his right arm.

"You were between life and death. Even after removing your arm, there were still fragments from the malice in your body and it was killing you. We gave you Rauru's blood to save you. I know it was risky, but we had no other choice. I'm happy to see you survived. You were unconscious for almost three weeks."

Link's jaw dropped; three weeks?! He was out for almost three weeks? He hoped Zelda was alright, wherever she was.

Then, they entered another room and Link saw two creatures that never had seen before, but he recognized the male one from the murals and the statues that he and Zelda found under the Hyrule Castle's ruins. They both were confirmed Link's fears; he really was in the past.

The zonai introduced themselves to Link. Sonia explained that Link is mute and even with Link writing, the queen couldn't read it.

"I see. Communication is being an issue here." Rauru comments.

"Maybe Loki can help. He's teaching your youngest son sign language, isn't he?" Mineru asks her brother.

Link is confused; who is Loki? Before anyone has a chance to answer him, a person appears beside Link out of nowhere.

"Did anyone call me?" he asks

Everybody yelped in surprise. Rauru glared at the new stranger, asking him to stop appearing like this. The stranger only smirked.

"Where is the fun? I like seeing your surprised faces." He giggled as he put an arm around Link's neck. "I'm glad to see you're finally awake, sleeping beauty, Loki is my name. I'm the hottest twili around. Nice to meet ya." He winked at him, smirking.

Link looked at him, confused; what was a twili? Loki asked him if he made him speechless with his beauty. Link sweatdropped; he was not a narcissist, was he?

Sonia sighs and she tells Loki that Link is mute but he knows sign language. Loki is now surprised; it is rare to see someone knowing sign language. Rauru tells him he hopes he can understand him.

"Well if it's not too different from what I'm teaching to Sigurd, I may understand him. Go ahead, beauty."

Link started to sign to them.

"Your name is Link?" Link nodded. He thanked Hylia that someone from that era understood him "And you're from…that's a good one Beauty, come on, I'm the prankster here."

"What did he say, Loki?" Rauru asks the twili.

"He said he's from the future." Loki answered him.

Silence filled the room. Link was afraid none of them would believe him like Loki did. To his and Loki's surprise, they did.

"That makes sense." Commented Mineru, with Sonia and Rauru agreeing with her.

Loki's jaw dropped in surprise, staring at them with a shocked expression on his face.

"Seriously? Do you believe him just like that?"

Rauru explained Link had a secret stone with him when they found him. When he checked the vault, all the stones were there, no one was missing. Sonia also confirmed she felt on Link some strange powers and time was his strongest one.

Link was surprised to hear this; he had time powers? That could explain in some moments, when he was fighting, he could feel the enemies were slower. Could this be what the queen was talking about? Then Link remembered something really important. He quickly signed as Loki translated to them.

"My sword! Did anyone see my sword?"

Everyone was tense when Link mentioned his sword. This was not a good sign.

"About your sword…" Mineru muttered.

Mineru showed Link the Master Sword on her working table, it was all detonated.

"I tried to fix it, but I don't have the right materials to do it. I'm sorry, Link."

Link fell to his knees, he really wanted to cry, he really wanted to. How come the sword that was forged by the goddesses themselves could end up in such a stage? And worse, he has no idea how to fix it, much less how to return to his own era. Then, Link felt a hand on his shoulder. It was Rauru.

"We will find a way to fix your sword and return to your era, Link." said the king. "Until we do, stay with us."

Link was surprised. He was just a stranger to them and yet they were offering him a place to stay until he was able to find his way back home and a way to fix the Master Sword. Loki encouraged him, telling him the king and the queen like adopting strays. Rauru glared at the twili.

"Loki…" he warned him.

"What? This is true." Loki defends himself.

Link has no other choice. He accepts their offer; until he finds a way to fix the sword and to find his way to his era, he's going to stay with the founders of Hyrule.

Mineru showed him a box. She mentioned while he was unconscious, she worked on a project to help him. When she opened the box, Link was surprised to see what was inside of it. It was a mechanical arm.

"We still feel bad for not being able to save your arm. I know this is not the same but I hope this tech arm can aid you from now on." said the female zonai.

Link only stares at the mechanical arm in silence, touching the cold metal with his left hand.

End of the chapter

An: I hope you guys enjoyed chapter 2. Link finds himself in the past, he has no idea how to go back and much less how to fix the damage the Master Sword suffered.

Since I don't plan the past arc being the same as Zelda's, I decided to create some Oc's to make Link's journey in the past to be more interesting. I hope you guys liked Loki the twili. He's going to play an important role in the past arc.

Don't forget to leave your reviews and kudos. They make me write more and more. Suggestions are also welcome.

Next chapter: Link bounds with everyone in the past. Meanwhile, Zelda has difficulties with Loki.
