Chapter 2 Getting To Know You

The day had turned out better than expected for both Twilight and Princess Luna. Twilight was jubilant that not only had she been accepted into the school, but was asked by the Princess herself to be her student. Princess Luna was Twilight's idol since she first saw her at The Mid Winter Moon Festival a year before. There just had been something about watching the Princess having raised the moon and lowered the moon that had sparked Twilight's interest in magic. She couldn't explain it, and maybe she was crazy, but she could have sworn that when Princess Luna was finished with the two heavenly bodies, she looked out to the crowd and Twilight thought Princess Luna was smiling directly at her. Luna on the other hoof, had other things on her mind.

Luna couldn't believe two things: one that she had a unicorn as powerful as Twilight was, and two that she was an orphan with no family. If she had had family Luna would have been sure to allow her to visit her family as often as possible. And it wasn't just that, but she didn't like the thought of anypony not having a family.She walked with Twilight and Miss Kind Heart back to the orphanage to sign some papers which were a mere formality for the princess, and so Twilight could collect her few belongings.

"I'm surprised no pony has adopted Twilight." Luna rematked as she the paperwork. (which wasn't for adoption just guardianship of the young unicorn)"She seems like such a sweet foal."

"She is." Miss Kind Heart agreed "But here is part of the problem."

Luna took the new piece of paper.There were often reports of what made foals orphans. The stories were never happy ones, but ones like this made her sick.

"Her parents were killed by the 'Poderosa Sol'?" Luna asked in shocked voice.

"Yes." Miss Kind Heart said with a sigh."You know that despite all the good you've done and continue to do, there are still some radical followers of the so-called 'Sun Princess' Sky Striker. You know what kind of ponies they are, ponies who think you are not the rightful ruler of Equestria. And believe that that mythical princess is the rightful of our world. What nonsense! Everypony knows Sky Striker doesn't exist. Most ponies anyway, but Twilight's parents were historians who were always looking for the truth, especially about the start of your rule, the Poderosa Sol found out about some of the research they had done, partially about the backstory of the supposed Princess Sky Striker, and they did a sneak attack on ponies home. A fire broke out and a neighbor was able to save Twilight but her parents were gone."

"I remember reading about the attack." Luna said finally remembering the incident. It was another unfortunate side effect of her sister giving into her dark side. And the really sad thing was that groups like the 'Poderosa Sol' didn't even know the true reason why she had become Sky Striker. And because of that things like this tragedy happened."Well you can be sure Miss Kind Heart Twilight will have the best of everything."

"I know." She said taking the finished paperwork from Princess Luna."You always take care of the children you take in. But I warn you, she is very shy and not very outgoing, so you will have to be patient with her."

"Understood. I think will check on now though." Luna said noticing how long Twilight was taking packing her things.

"Fine. Her room is the last one at the end of the hall." Miss Kind Heart said.

Luna opened the door to room and looked in. As far as rooms went it was quite ordinary. It had a bed, a nightstand, and a lamp. All that was in the filly's saddlebags were two books and an old ragdoll. Twilight was staring out the window looking at the sun. But to be honest, the sun made her nervous. And that was because of the image of the mare's face on the sun. There was something foreboding about it. Luna cleared her throat to get the young mare's attention.

"Do you need help packing?" Luna asked in a friendly tone.

"No. I packed everything." Twilight said softly.

"Then what is the matter?" Luna said sitting down by Twilight.

"Some of the foals here said Sky Striker would get me if I failed to get into the school. But I heard some of adults say that it's impossible for a filly to hatch a dragon's egg, what if Sky Striker is upset with me, and decides to attack me to teach me a lesson about doing things I'm not supposed to?" She asked tearfully. Suddenly she felt a wing around her body. She looked into the kind eyes of her new teacher who was smiling at her.

"You listen to me, young Twilight," Luna said softly."you've done nothing wrong. And if anypony said mean things to you, it's because they were jealous of the things you are capable of doing. As for Sky Striker, she is in no position to hurt you. And know this, I will never abandon you or leave you to yourself in a terrible situation. You know, I have not always had it easy."

"Really?" Asked Twilight as the princess wiped the tears out of her eyes.

"Really. I lost my parents when I was very young, so young in fact I don't remember them. I was raised by my older sister Celestia. She was always smiling and would tell the same old jokes, but she always made time for me." Luna said with a sad sigh.

"I didn't know you had a sister." Twilight remarked. But then a question came to her."Where is she now?"

"Well, back in the day ponies didn't care for me as much as they do now. That made Celestia angry she was afraid some ponies would hurt me. I tried to reassure her that everything would be alright, but she didn't listen and had to go far away to have some time to think about things." Luna said leaving out a few details, but still keeping the essence of the story.

"Will she ever return?" Twilight asked."I can tell by your voice you miss her."

"That I do. And she will in a few years. But for now, I have a Kingdom to run and you to look after. Now are you ready to head to the palace?" Luna asked trying to change the subject.

"Yes." said Twilight hopping off the bed.

"Then let's go." Luna said ready to get Twilight to her new home.

A secret place in Canterlot

"So our secret informer was correct in his assumption." said one stallion with a rising sun as his cutie mark."I told you we should have let her die when she was a baby."

"It would have been wrong to punish an innocent foal just because her parents were strong supporters of the lunar usurper." said another stallion this one this one sky blue with his self hated shooting star cutie mark.

"And there is no guarantee that despite becoming a student of the usurper that she'll be loyal to her." said a fusica colored mare with three cupcakes as her cutie mark."She could end up hating her teacher."

"Much like how I came to hate my parents for being so loyal to the wrong princess." said a young teenage stallion who was white with a cobalt blue mane and tail, and a shield cutie mark with a star on it."And the foalish belief that Sky Striker actually cared for that nightmarish sister of hers. My little sister will have some bad influences but she could still be useful to our cause in the long run. In fact, I have the perfect idea for who can spy on her and the lunar princess."

"Oh really?" asked the first stallion."Who?"
