"Shel- what are you…" Cameron trailed off as she stripped out of her scrubs and handed them to him. They were covered in blood and who knew what else. This had become a bit of their routine and he hated it, he hated seeing her like this. "This rotation seems harder than the others."
"Yeah. There was a major accident today and…" Shelby pulled off her bra and panties and just shook her head. "Toss it all."
"That's the second set this week," Cam said as she hopped into the shower and he put the scrubs to the side. The blood had soaked into her skin and they both knew she would not be able to get all of it off herself. He stripped down as well and turned the shower on to just short of scalding hot. She might not talk with him about what happened at work much, but he saw the evidence of it every day. "Let's get you cleaned off."
"Cam- you don't have to help again…" Shelby trailed off as he shook his head and pointed at the shower. She stepped in and just stood under the water. Cam silently joined her and grabbed her body wash and a loofa. He added some body wash to the loofa and slowly started working the grime off of her body. The first night this had happened, it had taken him and Julia to get her clean and into bed. Over the weeks, he just waited for her to get home and if it was a particularly bad shift- he helped. It was one of the few things he felt that he could do right now.
"Do you want to go get breakfast? Or just head to sleep?" She slowly turned to let him access more of her skin and he waited. On mornings like this, she usually took longer to come around and he hated seeing it. He had thought about asking her if she just wanted to move on to another profession, but he felt like it would be a worthless conversation. Instead, he kept his focus on helping her get through her rotations and be able to survive the battles that popped up.
"Breakfast sounds good." He kept scrubbing at the blood and waited for the water to run clear. She leaned back against him and he wrapped his arms around her. He watched her fully relax and he felt himself smiling. He was glad that he could do this much for her, even if it wasn't as much as he wanted to do to help.
"I'll go grab some breakfast sandwiches and bring them back- then you can get some rest." She nodded as he saw the water was finally running clear, but she was enjoying the feeling of the water way too much. He leaned down and kissed her cheek before he made sure she was steady on her feet and he got out of the shower. "Finish up and I'll be back by the time you're done."
"Thanks Cam. Love you," Shelby whispered, low enough that he wasn't sure that he heard her. A quick look at her let him know that she hadn't realized what had slipped and it gave him a bit of a reprieve. He knew what he felt, but he wanted to say it when she would remember it. When both of them would remember it.
"What the…" Tommy looked down at his communicator as it vibrated and he then closed the door to his office. It was near the end of office hours, so he hoped that no student would come knocking now. "Hey- what's up?"
"Monster. Central park," Axel barked into his communicator as he and Cam did their best to fight off the being. "Need- back up."
"Got it," Tommy said as he locked the door and then pressed the teleportation sequence. He landed in the Command Center and glanced around at the screens. Cam and Axel had been ambushed. He sent signals out to the rest of the rangers and one by one they responded. The message to them was the same. "Get by yourself- I've got to teleport you."
"What's going on?" Shelby stumbled into the Command Center in her pajamas and Tommy looked over at her. He didn't want to send her in, but this definitely looked like an all hands on deck situation. "Tommy."
"Can you go?" Tommy asked as she looked up at the screens and nodded. "Good- go ahead and morph- they're going to need you at full power."
"Holy crap," Shelby whispered as she materialized in Central Park and jumped into the fray. Civilians were streaming out of the area and the rangers were trying to contain the pedramorphs and the monster, but failing. She pulled out her blaster and began picking them off, one by one as she moved closer to the rangers. She was not the most accurate of the rangers, but it gave the others relief as the pedramorphs now had to split their attention.
The sharpshooter of the group, Patrick, pulled out his blaster and started picking the pedramorphs off as well. Soon the group was manageable and the other rangers were able to focus in on the monster. Shelby saw it happen in slow motion as the monster struck Cameron across his ribs and he went flying. She expected him to pop up, but he stayed down as the monster stalked towards him. Axel and Julia intercepted the monster as she made her way to Cameron. The color of his suit disguised how bad the injury was at first, until she saw his skin and the blood that tinged the rip.
"Dr. O…" Shelby forced out as she pulled off one of her gloves and stuffed it against the wound. She was able to tell that it wasn't deep, but it was going to hurt a lot. "Hey Cam, you with me?"
"Yeah," Cam muttered as he was teleported out and Shelby spun around in time to block the monster from striking her.
"Pour on the blasters!" Axel yelled and they all focused their blasters on the monster. This was something that normally worked, but this monster seemed to be stronger than most. "We need a boost."
"Axel- your staff." Tommy's voice rang out from their communicators and the rest of the rangers kept the blasters on as Axel's staff appeared and he slashed through the monster. The monster exploded as the rangers were thrown away and Tommy then teleported them out. This fight was going to draw a lot of attention and he did not want to risk them de-morphing there.
"Cam? Cam!" Shelby yelled as she popped to her feet and saw the red ranger surrounded by a pool of blood. "Cam!"
"Get her out of here," Tommy said as Julia looked at him in shock, but the other rangers moved to get Shelby out of the bay. "Jules- get her calm. She's our best bet, but Kim and I can handle this if she can't calm down."
"Fine," Julia said as she ran off and Kim and Tommy began stripping Cameron out of his suit. Tommy applied pressure to the gash while Kim scrambled to gather medical supplies. She had stitched Tommy up more than once, but she had never really thought she'd have to do this again.
"Let me go. Let me go!" Shelby yelled as she fought against the other rangers. She needed to get out of their grasps and to Cameron. She continued to fight and struggle until Julia decked her and she stopped. "What the hell was that for?"
"We need you to focus. Kim and Tommy are doing what they can, but you'd be better. We can't let you back in there until you have it together," Julia said as she ripped Shelby's helmet off and Shelby took several deep breaths before she nodded. "You're good?"
"I'm good. Let me go take care of him," Shelby said as the male rangers let her go and they all let out a collective sigh. The last thing they needed was a prophetess losing her mind after the battle they'd been through.
