Author's Note: Welcome back folks! As promised, here's some more Lumity fluff to satisfy the soul. This chapter will be a direct continuation of what I had originally intended for Echoes from the Heart. I managed to revise some of my original plot's points to draw some slight focus away from Amity and Luz and build the story some more, I hope you guys like it. Enjoy!

Mittens Are Best Used When Cold

The sun hung high in the sky, casting its warm rays upon the lively streets and shop in Bonesborough's Center Square. The bustling marketplace was a symphony of colors, scents, and sounds, as local vendors displayed their wares and eager customers weaved through the crowd. The cacophony of chaos was enough to rile even the most languid witch into a jovial mood. The air was filled with the enticing aromas of fresh breads, spices, and blooming flowers, creating an atmosphere that seemed to hum with energy.

Amidst the vibrant chaos, the Blight twins had once again found themselves engaged in a heated argument. They stood just outside the bustling city square, near a vendor's stall adorned with an array of shiny trinkets and baubles. Edric's face wore a mask of frustration as he clutched a small bag filled with what a particullarly shady merchant had alleged were powerful illusion stones. Emira, her patience wearing thin, waved her hands in exasperation.

"I can't believe we fell for that scam! These gems are worthless! I can't even feel any magic coming from them," Edric exclaimed, his voice tinged with irritation.

Emira shot him a reproachful look, her brows furrowing. "Well, no kidding you doofus. I told you that guy was scamming you. I mean just look at the bag they came in!"

The vessel in questions was akin to the many candies which Luz often reminisced about during their lunch period. The vibrant packaging recalled aspects of what she had called corporate advertising. An obvious "Skittles" label along with the "Taste the rainbow" mantra seemingly half erased from the wrapping.

"You're unbelievable sometimes you know that?!" Emira seethed. Sometimes she felt she would never understand how her and Edric were siblings. Always so similar, but so different. "And you just had to waste the last of our snails on those things, Edric! Now we've wasted our hard-earned money!"

The elder Blight twin huffed and crossed his arms defiantly. "I thought they looked real! How was I supposed to know? I bet you these things don't even taste like a rainbow!"

Emira let out a sigh of frustration, not wanting to deal with her brother's antics. However, after scanning the bustling square with her eyes. It was then that her gaze fell upon a familiar sight. Amity.

Emira stood flabbergasted as she watched from across the square as her baby sister walked hand in hand with Luz, the human girl who had recently become a prominent figure in their lives. Emira's curiosity piqued as she noticed the tender smiles exchanged between the two, and a mischievous idea began to form in her mind. The ideations of tomfoolery played at her lips as she formulated a plan to mess with Amity for what seemed like the hundredth time this week.

A sly grin curved Emira's lips as she nudged Edric and tilted her head subtly in Amity and Luz's direction. "Hey, Edric. Looky what I see."

Edric, seemingly uninterested in whatever his female counterpart was planning, shrugged indifferently. "What's the big deal, Em? Let them have their walk. We still have to get our money back ya know?"

Emira's eyes twinkled impishly. "Oh, come on, Ed. Haven't you noticed? There's something going on between those two. I know it. Let's follow them and see what they're up to. Maybe we can gather some juicy information."

Edric's curiosity was piqued, and a smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. "Alright, sister. I'm in. But only if you promise to help me trick that witch who swindled us later."

Emira chuckled, intertwining her arm with Edric's and giving him a playful tug. "Deal, brother. Let's play detective for a while and have a little fun with our favorite runaways."

With their plan set in motion, Edric and Emira slipped into the crowd, their gazes fixed on Amity and Luz, who continued walking hand in hand toward the library, oblivious to the twins' covert pursuit.

As Amity and Luz continued their leisurely stroll towards the library, their conversation took on an upbeat and lively tone. Amity couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth and contentment radiating from the human girl, and it brought a smile to her face. She was happy to let Luz ramble on about their plans for the Azura Book club meeting, listening attentively as the human girl's wild ideas spilled forth. It honestly made her wonder if there was an end to Luz's wild imagination.

Luz's enthusiasm was contagious, and Amity found herself laughing at her friend's endless stream of creative suggestions. From suggestions like making King a mascot to trying to starting their own Azura themed Grudgby team. The humans' renewed vigor was refreshing, reminding Amity of the boundless curiosity and imagination that she had once kept hidden away within herself. The thought brought a soft smile to her lips.

As the two approached the entrance of the library, Luz suddenly halted, a hint of awkwardness creeping into her expression. Amity raised an eyebrow, curious about what had given Luz pause.

"Luz, what's wrong?" Amity asked, her voice tinged with concern.

Luz fidgeted slightly, the question lingering on her lips. Finally, she mustered the courage to ask, "Um, Amity, are you sure I'm even allowed in the library after... you know, … the diary incident?"

Amity's eyes widened slightly as the memories of her harsh words and actions towards Luz during that time resurfaced. She couldn't help but feel a tinge of guilt for her past behavior, even if Luz had invaded her privacy by reading her diary. Amity felt guilty for calling her a bully, especially after all Luz did to apologize and the fact it was her older sibling's idea in the first place.

"Oh... right," Amity mumbled, her voice slightly sheepish. "I hadn't really thought about it."

"Awww, does this mean no Azura Book Club?!" Luz pouted, clearly distraught at the misstep. "I knew I should've brought the otter suit. I could've blended right in."

Amity couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of her crush roaming the library in those tacky pajamas. It was almost too cute to imagine. Shaking her head, Amity replied, "I wouldn't worry about it Luz. I mean, I do work here after all, and I'm on pretty good terms with the head librarian Malfus. I don't think there will be any issues as long as you stick with me. Just try not to go sneaking around other peoples' things this time."

Luz nodded, a slight blush forming on her face from her friend's teasing. "Ok hermosa. I trust you. On ward to Azura!" The bombastic Latina chanted the last part, eager to escape her awkwardness.

Amity smiled warmly at Luz, she loved watching her obvious attempts to avoid embarrassment. One of the many things she had come to adore from the human girl was her odd language. Spanish, she called it. The Blight teen made a mental note to check if Malfus had anything in the human studies section about it later.

"Thanks, Luz. I'll make sure everything goes smoothly. Besides, it's our first book club meeting, and I don't want anything to dampen the excitement."

With their concerns put to rest, the two friends resumed their journey towards the library. They approached the imposing double doors, their entry unchallenged. As they were about to step inside, Luz turned to Amity with a playful grin.

"Hey, Amity, how about we come up with a secret book club handshake?" she suggested, wiggling her fingers in anticipation.

Amity laughed, the sound filled with genuine joy. "Sure, Luz. But no fist pumps or whatever you call it this time."

Their laughter echoed through the library's entrance, both unaware of the two green-haired twins quietly trailing behind them.

As Amity and Luz stepped into the library, the hushed atmosphere washed over them, wrapping them in a comforting embrace of knowledge and stories. Amity, with her ever-present grace, immediately caught the attention of a group of children nestled in a cozy corner, engrossed in their own little world of books.

One of the children, a young girl with a mop of curly hair and ember eyes, looked up from her book and squealed in delight. "Ms. Amity!" she exclaimed, bounding towards the Blight teen, her book clutched tightly in her hands.

Luz's heart swelled with warmth as she recognized the girl from the reading group she occasionally volunteered for. The young girl had a fiery passion for stories, much like herself. It was no wonder she gravitated towards Amity, who effortlessly nurtured their shared love for books.

Amity's face lit up with a brilliant smile as she crouched down to the girl's level. "Hi Rosana! What are you reading today, honey?

The girl eagerly thrust her book towards Amity. "It's called The Dread Pirate Craberts! It's about a daring pirate captain sailing through treacherous seas!" she exclaimed, her voice brimming with enthusiasm.

Amity's eyes sparkled with genuine interest as she took the book, flipping through the pages. Images of a half witch half crab creature swinging a saber in various scenes populated the pages. "Ah, the life of a pirate, full of thrilling escapades and hidden treasures. I'm sure this captain will find their way to greatness."

Luz watched the interaction with pure delight, her admiration for Amity growing by the second. She couldn't help but be enchanted by the way Amity effortlessly connected with the children, making each encounter feel like a magical experience. It was one of the many things she had grown to adore about her. Under all that Blight toughness she fronted, Amity always had a soft spot.

"Would you read it to me Ms. Amity?" the young witchling asked, he eyes filled with wanderlust.

Amity ruffled the girl's messy hair and reassured her, "Maybe next time Rosana. I'm her with my friend Luz right now and we have our own book club to attend to."

The young witchling's face dropped, a defeated look overtaking the child. "Aww! Why does your girlfriend get to have all the fun?" Rosana pouted, oblivious to the mess she had just stirred up.

Amity quickly stood up and attempted to deflect the wild haired witchling's comment, an intense shade of red filling her cheeks. "Uh… R-Rosana. Luz is just my f-friend. W-we aren't-"

Rosana huffed, clearly irritated with the Blight teen. "Yeah right! I mean she literally talks about you all the time! She's always calling you so special and so pretty. You know that right human?" The fiery child pointed an accusing finger at Luz. Her own mind blanking out, shutting down at the child's comments.

Her embarrassment growing by the minute, Amity frantically hushed the child, eager to end her tirade. "Rosana!" she squealed, the loudness of her voice earning a collective hush from the library staff and patrons. Pulling her hair in frustration, the minty haired witchling conceded, "Look honey. If you promise to behave for the rest of the day, then I'll read you any book you want the next time we have our reading group. OK?"

Amity could only hope that her deepest secret hadn't been outed by Rosana's jealous antics. The very thought nearly made her stomach turn.

Rosana lulled over the offer for a moment, appearing to be deep in thought as if considering some major trade deal.

"OK!" she shouted.

Amity sighed, glad to have silenced the wild witchling before she could spill any other of her secrets. She crouched down and gave the young witchling a hug and sent her own her way. The little girl ran off shrieking and giggling as she went.

Pinching her eyebrows and thanking the Titan, Amity turned to face Luz, the same blank look still plastered on her face. Except this time, she noticed a slight blush forming on the human's complexion.

"Look Luz," she started, desperately wanting to explain Rosana's choice of words. "Sorry about what Rosana said. I honestly don't know where these kids get all these crazy ideas. I'll have to stop reading them so much fantasy novels you know?" Amity chuckled nervously as she finished speaking, still unsure how her crush had processed what had just transpired.

Luz's gaze remained resolute; eyes locked with Amity. The minty haired witchling felt the heat in her face rising once again.

"Uh… Luz?" Amity asked sheepishly. Hoping she hadn't broken the human. "You, Ok?"

"…"

Luz blinked.

"Y-you uh…t-talk about me all the time?" Luz asked bashfully, unsure of what else to say.

Amity could feel the walls of the library closing in on her. The weight of her embarrassment cutting through her like knives. Her only respite being the human had either misheard or chose to mention Rosana's last two comments about her.

"Well, you know. Not like ALL the time. Just uh… whenever I'm tell the kids about Hexside and stuff. And uh…"

Another awkward silence emerged.

"Yeah," Amity admitted, barely managing to find the air to speak.

Luz's cheeks flushed with a mix of embarrassment and joy as she watched Amity acting so timid. She couldn't help but find it endearing that Amity thought of her so much, even when telling stories to the kids. Her heart fluttered, knowing that she held a special place in Amity's thoughts and conversations.

"Amity I—" Luz managed, but she was abruptly cut off by the dead silence which overtook the room. The moment of realization made her looked over her shoulder only for her eyes to meet those of the head librarian Malfus, his ember gaze staring right through the human girl.

Before the moment could be explored any further, a stern voice echoed through the library, breaking the fragile bubble of intimacy that had formed between the two teens. Malfus' tall and imposing figure with a stern expression etched on his face, eyeing the two as if they were wanted criminals.

"Amity Blight!" Malfus called out, his tone filled with suspicion. "What are you doing here with that human? You know the rules. No troublemakers aloud on the premises."

Amity's eyes widened with a hint of panic, realizing the potential consequences of breaking Malfus' strict standards. She quickly stood up, straightening her posture and trying to maintain her composure.

"Malfus, it's not what you think," Amity began, her voice tinged with a mix of anxiety and determination. "Luz is my friend, and she's here for a book club meeting I organized. I can vouch for her."

Malfus studied Luz, his piercing gaze causing her to shift uncomfortably under his scrutiny. The head librarian had been witness to the previous incident within one of the his library's private studies, and despite Amity's assurances his suspicion remained intact.

"You vouching for her doesn't mean much, Amity," Malfus replied coldly. "You do recall how this human and your siblings nearly destroyed half this library correct?"

Amity's face remained resolute, eager to dissuade her boss's concerns. "I remember sir. But that wasn't Luz's fault. It was mostly just Ed and Em. She kinda…got lead in under false pretenses. She would never do anything like that of her own accord. I swear."

Luz's nervousness faded rapidly as Amity spoke, her gaze quickly shifting to the girl in question. The human teen felt her gut flutter as her best friend defended her honor. It honestly made her like her even more. 'Only if you knew, Amity.'

The head librarian hardly ever questioned Amity, given her family's reputation and the fact she was his best volunteer. However, he still felt uneasy about letting the stranger into his domain. Eyeing the minty haired witchling carefully, he spoke, "Fine Amity. I'll give her a chance. However, I expect her to prove her worth in this library. She can attend to a small matter for me. If she succeeds and agrees to follow the rules this time. I'll reconsider allowing her to stay."

Luz felt a mix of relief and determination. She understood the skepticism Malfus held towards her, but she was determined to prove herself worthy of being in the library. She nodded, accepting the challenge, her excitement for the Azura Book Club momentarily pushed aside.

As Malfus left, Amity turned to Luz, her expression a mixture of gratitude and frustration. "I'm sorry, Luz. I didn't expect Malfus to show up like that. He's always so suspicious strict, especially after what Edric and Emira did."

Luz waved off Amity's apology, a reassuring smile on her face. "It's okay, Amity. I understand. I'll tackle this liceity split and show him that I can be trusted. Then we can start our Book Club. And who knows, maybe you'll find something interesting while I'm dealing with all this."

Amity's eyes softened, appreciating Luz's unwavering support. She nodded, a flicker of determination in her own gaze. "Ok. Just be safe. I'll be in the study whenever you're done. Just knock and I'll let you in."

As they walked away from each other, their paths temporarily diverging, Amity's mind raced with thoughts and emotions. She couldn't help but wonder if this was the moment to share her feelings, to let Luz know how much she truly meant to her. After all, Rosana had pretty much spit out half the truth for her. The Blight teen shook her head, knowing that Luz was probably too dense to even pick up on half of it. Just another thing to add to her list of reasons why she loved her so much.

The more she thought about it, Amity realized that if she really was going to confront her feelings for her crush, then maybe she should find something to connect with her. At least more than Azura that is. In any worst-case scenario, then at least she could make amends for any awkwardness she would surely cause.

After spending a few moments trying to rack her brain about what to get the wild teen, her thoughts began drifting to their walk early. This caused her to remember what her crush had said in that foreign tongue she spoke.

'Hermosa'

For some odd reason Amity couldn't quite figure out why, but the thought of such a strange word made her feel somehow… appreciated by her crush. What exactly the word meant, Amity had no clue. Perhaps it was some weird form of endearment in the human realm. Or maybe it was some odd saying humans had. Either way, the word triggered a brilliant idea to form in the Blight teen's mind. A genuine smile began forming on the witchling girl's lips.

"I wonder if Malfus still has that old human dictionary around."

Amity turned towards her study, eager to start prepping for searching for the dictionary. But before she could even start walking to her study, the library's hallowed silence was shattered by the familiar giggling of Edric and Emira, their mere presence causing Amity's blood to boil.

Amity's brows furrowed as she turned her attention to the source of the disturbance. Edric and Emira stood at the entrance of the library, their wicked grins evident as they exchanged playful banter. The sight of her twin siblings only served to intensify the frustration simmering within Amity.

"Edric! Emira!" Amity hissed through gritted teeth, her voice laced with irritation. "What are you two doing here? This is a library, not your personal playground."

Edric shrugged, feigning innocence as he approached Amity with a cheeky grin. "Relax, Mittens. We just wanted to see what you were up to. Besides, it's not like we're causing any real trouble. Just enjoying the magical world of reading you know?"

Emira chimed in, a mischievous twinkle in her eyes. "Yeah, we were just bored and thought we'd check in on you. You do like to spend all of your time her you know. So we figured we'd join you and Luz."

Amity felt his blood pressure rise, her face flushing red. The sudden realization that her sibling had taken the liberty to follow her and Luz around only angered her more. "Are you two spying on me or something?!" the Blight teen shot. "Did Mom put you up to this? You know what happened the last time she decided to 'keep tabs' on us."

The Blight twins snickered at the memory of their baby sister nearly torching every bench in the Boneborough Park when their overbearing mother hired an overly persistent sitter to check on them.

"Relax Mittens," Emira soothed. "We're not gonna cause any trouble. And besides, you should be grateful for the company."

Amity's frustration only grew, her patience wearing thin. "I don't need your company, especially when I'm trying to focus on important library work. Now, leave before you get me in anymore trouble."

Edric and Emira exchanged playful glances, clearly relishing in their ability to get under Amity's skin. "Fine, fine," Edric chuckled, raising his hands in mock surrender. "We'll leave you to your precious books, Mittens."

Emira, ever the troublemaker, added with a smirk, "But don't worry, baby sister. We'll keep our eyes open for any cute humans who might catch your interest."

Amity's face dropped at her elder sister's remark. 'Had it really been that obvious?' she thought to herself. The comment only motivated her to further to extradite the twins faster. Face flushed with a mix of annoyance and embarrassment, the young witchling seethed. "Just go already!" she snapped, gesturing towards the library's exit.

As the twins made their dramatic exit, their snickers echoing throughout the causeway, Amity let out a frustrated sigh, feeling the weight of her siblings' antics lingering in the air. She couldn't help but wonder if they had overheard her earlier conversation with Luz, or if they suspected anything about her growing feelings for Luz.

Shaking off the intrusive thoughts, Amity refocused her attention on the task at hand. She was determined to find the dictionary she needed whilst Luz was occupied with Malfus. With renewed determination and not a moment to waste, she walked briskly towards her study, determined to push aside the distractions and start her search.

Amity sat cross-legged on the floor of her study, surrounded by stacks of dusty books and old scrolls. Sunlight filtered through the window, casting a warm glow on the worn wooden desk where she diligently flipped through the pages of a tattered human archive. Determination etched on her face, she was in search of a Spanish dictionary, hoping to find a way to deepen her connection with Luz.

Her fingers traced the faded titles on the book spines, her minty hair falling gently over her shoulder as she carefully examined each one. The musty scent of aged parchment filled the air, lending an air of nostalgia to the cozy study.

Amity sat back in her study, her eyes surveying the room with a sense of awe and gratitude. This space, once a refuge from the pressures of her prestigious Blight lineage and the relentless pursuit of excellence at Hexside, had transformed into something more profound. It was no longer just a sanctuary for her studies, but a place where she could truly be herself. Here, she could escape the weight of expectations, the prying eyes of her parents, and the constant need to prove herself. It was a space where she could reflect on her own journey, her desires, and her dreams. And in this haven, she had discovered a newfound joy, shared only with those she had come to trust deeply, particularly Luz. It was through this budding friendship and her developing feelings that her study had taken on a whole new meaning—a place of solace, introspection, and the blossoming of her own identity.

Luz. The girl who stole her heart without ever even realizing it. It was thanks to her that Amity felt she didn't need to be the person everyone expected her to be. The Blight she was supposed to be. Everything this study had once offered her. The privacy, the escape, and the freedom to be herself. Luz had given Amity all of that by just being herself. Her friend. And the young witchling couldn't ever thank the girl enough.

She supposed that if there was a reason, she loved her so deeply it was that. Luz always brought about the best in everybody. She was a light that could run away the darkness from any bad situation and put life into everything she touched. Even those who might turn her away. It was all so genuine and pure. The very thought made Amity's heart flutter.

After what felt like an eternity of flipping through pages and squinting at faded ink, Amity's eyes finally landed on a worn leather-bound book with a plethora of vibrant images on the cover. Its title, "Cocina Española Para Principiantes," glimmered faintly under the dim light. With a sense of excitement and anticipation, she delicately opened the book, revealing a treasure trove of words and meanings. The young witchling utterly oblivious to the supposed "dictionary" in her hands.

Amity's heart raced as she scanned the pages, her eyes darting from one entry to another. As full of mystery and wonder the Boiling Isles were, they weren't much in the way of multilingualism. Amity had never imagined herself ever trying to learn a completely new language. Especially if it could become a bridge between her and Luz. She felt a flutter of hope deep within her chest.

As she perused the dictionary, her gaze caught on to a particular phrase, highlighted in an unnatural hue of neon yellow. Amity's cheeks flushed as she pondered the significance of the phrase and its potential application.

The accompanying image wasn't something she recognized. From what she could discern, it was some sort of oddly shaped auburn lump with a bright orange interior. It kinda reminded her of the dragon's root her father would bring home after a trip from the plant coven academy.

In the midst of her reverence for the peculiar food, an idea formed in Amity's mind. 'I wonder if Luz would think it's a good nickname?'

A shy smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she imagined using the nickname with Luz. It seemed fitting, a term of endearment that encapsulated the sweetness and warmth she felt whenever she was around the human girl. She couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth and happiness bubbling inside her at the thought.

Closing the 'dictionary', Amity carefully placed it on the desk, her mind buzzing with a newfound sense of purpose. She had found a way to bring a touch of her crushes human language into their friendship, a secret bond between them. It was a small gesture, but she hoped it would convey her growing affection for Luz.

With renewed determination, Amity gathered the books and scrolls scattered around her, tidying her study as she prepared to leave. She couldn't wait to share her discovery with Luz, to see her reaction and perhaps even find the courage to express her feelings.

Little did she know that fate had a way of weaving its own story, and that the path ahead would hold unexpected twists and turns. But for now, Amity held onto the hope that this small act would bring them closer, and she eagerly anticipated the next chapter of their journey together.

Feeling the atmosphere around her change, Amity noticed a set of hasty footsteps rapidly approaching the entrance to her study. As the human approached the secret entrance, Amity's heart raced with a mix of anticipation and panic. She hastily glanced at the Spanish book from the desk, realizing that she had little time to conceal it before Luz entered the room. With a quick movement, she attempted to hide the book behind her back, her face flushed with a tinge of embarrassment.

But before she could reach the door to intercept Luz, the energetic human knocked on the study's entrance. The sound resonated through the room, jolting Amity from her frantic thoughts. Time seemed to freeze as the bookshelf moved, and Luz stepped inside without hesitation.

As her crush entered the study, her voice filled the air, breaking Amity's focus on the book in her hand. Startled, she hastily tried to hide the book behind her back, a nervous smile stretching across her face. But it was too late—the surprise was almost ruined. Luz, oblivious to the near revelation, continued excitedly, "Man, Amity, you would not believe the stuff that Malfus had me doing. It was so crazy. Say, you ever heard of something called a paper dragon?"

Amity stood frozen in place, the Spanish book still clutched in her hand, her mind racing to find a way to salvage the moment. She attempted to act nonchalant, but her words came out as a jumbled mess, "H-Hola Botata. I'm fine. I had to tidy up the study was all, and uh..." She trailed off, the awkwardness creeping onto her face, unable to articulate a coherent sentence.

Luz's concern grew as she noticed Amity's stiffness and the way she seemed flustered. Stepping closer, she reached out a hand, gently placing it on Amity's arm. "Amity, are you okay?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine care and worry. However, her concern turned to slight shock and amusement as she registered Amity's attempt at speaking Spanish. She couldn't help but let out a snicker, quickly covering her mouth with her free hand.

Amity's blush deepened, realizing her mistake, and she looked down sheepishly. "Botata... I thought it meant something nice," she muttered, feeling a mix of embarrassment and amusement at her lack of translation skills.

Luz's laughter softened into a warm chuckle as she gently patted Amity's arm. "Oh, Amity, that's adorable," she said, her voice filled with affection. "Botata means sweet potato. It's a kind of vegetable we eat back on Earth."

Amity's eyes widened in surprise and confusion. "Sweet potato? I'm not sure I've ever had that before," she admitted, her voice tinged with curiosity. "I uh…thought it was…you know? Like a nickname or something?

Luz giggled at her friends, grateful for Amity's attempt to learn her language. She leaned in a little closer, their faces just inches apart. "That's sweet Amity. But I think you're the sweet potato!" she suggested, a playful glimmer in her eyes.

Amity felt her blush intensify under Luz's gaze, but she couldn't help but smile back at her friend's enthusiasm. "Huh, yeah. I'm a sweet potato," she replied softly, feeling a flutter in her chest. A light laugh escaped her lips, trying to downplay her embarrassment.

Luz couldn't resist probing a bit further, her voice filled with gentle curiosity. "So, what exactly made you choose that of all things?" she asked, her eyes searching Amity's face.

Amity's gaze flickered down to the Spanish 'dictionary' still clutched in her hand. She hesitated for a moment before meeting Luz's eyes again. "There was a picture in this book I found," she began, her voice slightly shaky. "It reminded me of you. It seemed kinda… sweet. I dunno. I like the way it sounded I guess?"

Luz's expression softened, touched by Amity's heartfelt explanation. She reached out, taking Amity's hand in hers, their fingers intertwining. "Amity, that's incredibly sweet," she whispered, her voice filled with tenderness. "Thank you for thinking of me like that. Heavens knows I don't have anyone else to speak Spanish with here in the Isles. I'm really happy you'd try learning it for me." The human teen gave her a appreciative look.

Amity's heart fluttered at the contact, and a shy smile graced her lips. In that moment, the study felt more than just a room filled with books. It became a space where their connection deepened, where understanding and affection bloomed. And as they stood there, hand in hand, the unspoken promise of something beautiful continued to unfold between them.

"Well…maybe you can teach me some more? It could be like our secret Azura Book Club language?" Amity proposed, eager to change the subject. Her discomfort became more evident by the second.

Luz nearly squealed at her best friend's proposal. Foregoing all couth, she wrapped her arms around the unprepared witchling in a tight hug, almost squeezing the life from her. "¡Sí! ¡Sí! ¡Sí! ¡Mil veces sí!" she cried, her face beaming with excitement.

"Uh, yeah! Sure, I mean…yeah," Amity stammered, her cheeks turning a shade of crimson as she tried to regain her composure. She awkwardly returned the hug, but her mind was racing with a whirlwind of emotions. Deep down, she couldn't help but feel a surge of panic, unable to handle another meltdown. Her heart pounded in her chest, and she desperately tried to suppress any signs of her inner turmoil. It was another emotional disaster moment, a whirlpool of conflicting feelings and unspoken desires, and Amity found herself grappling with the overwhelming intensity of it all.

Luz, finally noticing Amity's discomfort, quickly released her from the hug, a sheepish smile on her face. "Sorry, Amity. I guess I got a little carried away there," she apologized, her voice filled with sincerity.

Amity, still blushing and slightly flustered, waved it off with a small smile. "It's okay, Luz. I understand. We're both just really excited about our Azura Book Club," she replied, her voice a mix of nerves and genuine enthusiasm.

With a nod, Amity suggested they finally start their meeting, and Luz eagerly agreed. They settled down in the cozy nook of the study, surrounded by stacks of books and the faint scent of parchment. The next couple of hours flew by in a blur of animated discussions and laughter. They delved into fan theories, passionately debated the Hecate, Azura, and Zom love triangle, and shared their favorite moments from the series.

Every now and then, Luz would try to teach Amity a few Spanish phrases related to Azura, but each attempt only added to the witchling's flustered state. Amity's words would stumble and jumble, her sentences turning into a mixture of Spanish and nervous babbling. But Luz never lost her patience, always wearing a warm smile and reassuring Amity that she would get the hang of it in no time.

As the afternoon sun painted the room in golden hues, Amity couldn't help but feel grateful for these moments shared with Luz. Despite the occasional gay disaster moments and her own self-consciousness, she cherished the growing bond between them. The Azura Book Club became a sanctuary, a place where their friendship blossomed amidst shared passions and the gentle teasing of language lessons. And as they continued their animated discussion, Amity couldn't help but hope that their story would unfold like the pages of their beloved books, filled with adventure, understanding, and maybe, just maybe, a hint of something more.

As Amity reflected on the experiences she was having with Luz, she couldn't help but feel a sense of liberation and growth. The moments shared in the Azura Book Club and their private conversations allowed her to break free from her self-imposed shell, embracing her passions and opening up in ways she never thought possible. With Luz by her side, Amity felt supported and understood, her confidence steadily building with each passing day. The human's presence in her life was like a beacon of light, illuminating new paths and possibilities. Amity cherished these moments and yearned for them to continue, for they were shaping her into a stronger, more authentic version of herself.

Similarly, Luz found herself undergoing a transformative journey alongside her best friend. Though she had to admit they had had a rocky start, she discovered a profound connection with the witchling. Luz couldn't help but feel inspired by Amity's determination, intelligence, and growth, and she marveled at the way her friend's walls crumbled little by little. The moments they spent together were filled with joy, laughter, and a deepening understanding of one another. Luz felt a sense of purpose in helping Amity come out of her shell, and she reveled in the opportunity to support and encourage her. Their friendship was a source of strength and excitement, and Luz couldn't imagine her life without Amity's vibrant presence. She wanted to continue on this journey, exploring new realms of friendship and connection, and see where their shared experiences would lead them.

As the library's silence grew more pronounced, Amity's attention was drawn to the lack of bustling activity around them. It was then that she mentally facepalmed, realizing she had lost track of time. She had been so immersed in the enjoyable company of her crush that the hours had slipped away unnoticed. A twinge of regret tugged at her, knowing they had likely overstayed their welcome in the library.

"Um, Luz," Amity hesitated, her voice tinged with reluctance. "I think... I think we should probably end the meeting for now. We've been here for a while, and I don't want to push our luck with the librarians."

Luz's face fell, a hint of disappointment glimmering in her eyes. She let out a sigh but quickly reassured Amity with a warm smile. "Hey, Mittens. It's okay. We'll have the next meeting in no time. And who knows, maybe we can find another cozy spot to continue our discussions."

Amity's heart skipped a beat at the nickname, but instead of a warm flutter, a surge of panic coursed through her veins. Her eyes widened, and she instinctively recoiled, a mix of surprise and distress etched on her face.

"Luz!" Amity exclaimed, her voice filled with a blend of surprise and anxiety. "Why... why would you call me that?"

Luz blinked, taken aback by Amity's sudden reaction. "I... I thought it was a cute nickname," she stammered, trying to comprehend what went wrong. "I've heard Emira and Edric call you that, and I thought... I thought we were close enough for me to use it too. I didn't mean to upset you."

Amity's initial panic gave way to a realization of her overreaction. She sighed, feeling a mixture of embarrassment and regret. "I'm sorry, Luz. I didn't mean to freak out like that. It's just... that nickname doesn't mean to me what it means to my family. It's…not something I like to talk about."

Luz's brows furrowed in concern as she tried to grasp the weight of Amity's words. "I... I didn't know. I'm sorry, Amity. I didn't mean to bring up any painful memories."

Amity's gaze softened as she looked at her crush, nearly getting lost in her chocolate eyes. "It's not your fault, Luz. I should have explained earlier. 'Mittens' was the nickname my parents gave me when I was little. When we were…closer."

Luz's heart winced at the confession. She had always known that Amity didn't exactly have the best relationship with her parents, but she didn't figure it was so… estranged.

"It used to be a special," Amity continued. "It represented a time when we were closer, before things changed. Before they got so distant. Now, it's a bittersweet reminder of what we've lost. I appreciate your intentions, but it's just... complicated for me."

Luz nodded, her expression filled with understanding. "I'm sorry, Amity. I didn't realize the weight it carried for you. I'll respect that and won't use that nickname anymore. I never want to make you uncomfortable."

Amity's heart warmed at Luz's genuine concern. She knew her friend meant well, and the fact that Luz was willing to adjust for her comfort meant the world. "Thank you, Luz," Amity said softly, her voice tinged with gratitude. "I know you didn't mean any harm. I'm sorry for overreacting. Let's just... move past it, alright?"

Luz smiled, a mixture of relief and apology in her eyes. "Of course, Amity. We'll move past it, and I promise to be more mindful in the future. Our friendship means a lot to me, and I never want to jeopardize that."

As the tension dissipated between them, Amity couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of gratitude for Luz's understanding and their growing connection. Their journey together was a delicate dance of trust and vulnerability, and though there may be bumps along the way, Amity knew deep down that their friendship was worth navigating through the complexities. Especially if it would lead to something more.

"How about 'Sweet Potato'?" Luz proposed, the words shaking the Blight teen from her stupor.

Amity's cheeks flushed with a mixture of embarrassment and a strange fluttering sensation. "Sweet Potato?" she repeated, her voice slightly breathless. The unexpected suggestion took her off guard, but there was something undeniably endearing about it. It wasn't a nickname tied to her past or burdened with painful memories. It was fresh and unique, just like her friendship with Luz. The thought of having a special nickname that was theirs alone, something her parents couldn't taint or ruin, made her heart swell with warmth. It felt like a little secret, a whispered bond between them that held the promise of brighter days ahead. A shy smile graced Amity's lips as she replied, "I... I like that. 'Sweet Potato.' It's... special."

Without warning, Amity's overwhelming gratitude and affection for Luz burst forth, and she wrapped her arms around the surprised human in a tight embrace. "Thank you, Luz," she whispered, her voice filled with genuine emotion. "Thank you for being such an amazing friend and an incredible person." Luz's cheeks turned a shade of pink, and she quickly reciprocate the gesture, trying to play it cool despite the warmth spreading through her.

Amity pulled away slightly, her eyes filled with admiration as she looked at Luz. In that moment, she couldn't help but reflect on all the things she loved about her. It was like a kaleidoscope of traits that made Luz so unique and extraordinary. Her unwavering kindness, her genuine love for everyone around her, and the way she effortlessly brought out the best in people. Luz was a beacon of light in a world often shrouded in shadows, always extending a helping hand to those in need, even when they never asked for it. Amity felt a surge of admiration and affection, realizing just how lucky she was to have Luz in her life.

Feeling her confidence finally surge. A terrifying thought crept into Amity's mind. 'Should I ask her?'

Considering their situation, it wasn't the worst idea. Both of them were alone and it was almost certain nothing would bother them at this point. Amity could feel her old fears of Luz's rejection of her affection creeping up again. But, much like a Grom, there was her crush looking her dead in the eyes. Ready to face her challenges with her. Biting her lips, she decided to speak.

However, as the words "Would you like to..." began to form on the tip of Amity's tongue, their precious moment was abruptly shattered by the intrusion of the all to familiar voice of her siblings.

"Mittens! It's time to go home," Emira's voice echoed through the study, slicing through the air and shattering Amity's hopes of seizing the moment with Luz.

Annoyance swelled within her, fueled by the constant interruptions from her sister. But before she could act, the mischievous Blight twins burst into the study, their laughter bouncing off the walls. It had a teasing tone, one Amity had become all too familiar with since she had revealed she had a secret crush to them. The mere thought of it ignited her anger.

"Aww…look Em. We caught the two hideaways in a private moment. How romantic!" Edric teased, relishing in Amity's discomfort.

Her heart sank, and she swiftly distanced herself from Luz, a mix of frustration and disappointment etching across her face. It seemed like fate conspired against her every time she attempted to express her true feelings. With a heavy sigh, she mentally prepared for the chaos that was about to ensue, knowing that the question she longed to ask would remain unspoken.

"Oh, Mittens, why so bashful all of a sudden?" Emira chimed in, seizing the opportunity to push her sister to her limits and revel in her embarrassment. "We didn't mean to interrupt. We can leave you two lovebirds alone if you want?"

Amity's humiliation intensified, and she sank to the floor, desperate to shield her face from the prying eyes. The weight of humiliation surged through her veins, clawing at her sense of self.

In the midst of the chaos, Luz couldn't bear to witness Amity's siblings shamelessly teasing her any longer. A surge of protectiveness surged within her, binding her heart. She gazed at her best friend, a mix of fury and determination simmering in her eyes. Even with Amity's head buried in her lap, Luz could see the tears welling in her eyes. Something snapped within Luz, unable to tolerate Ed and Em's antics any further.

"Hey!" Luz shouted, her fists binding tighter as she lambasted the twins. "Haven't you done enough?! Can't you see Amity's crying?!" The human's outburst reverberated through the room, her frustration finally boiling over. She had reached her limit with Edric and Emira's incessant meddling.

The twins exchanged surprised glances, caught off guard by Luz's defense of their baby sister. Uncertain how to respond, they exchanged awkward shrugs, momentarily speechless in the face of her fierce determination.

"Honestly, I swear you two never learn," Luz continued, her face flushed with intensity. "I thought by now you would have understood not to intrude on Amity's private life, especially after what happened last time." Her voice dripped with a warning as she locked eyes with the twins, her glare conveying her seriousness.

As Luz unleashed her protective fury, Amity's gaze shifted from her tear-stained hands to her best friend, her savior in that moment. There, amidst the chaos and humiliation, Luz stood tall like a knight in shining armor, defending her honor with unwavering determination. In that instant, Amity felt her heart swell with a newfound admiration for the human girl who had become so dear to her.

Luz's voice carried on, her words cutting through the tension in the room. "Amity is an incredible person," she declared, her tone firm and resolute. "She's the kindest, most intelligent, and the most exceptional witch in the Boiling Isles. You should be grateful to have such an awesome sister."

The twins exchanged glances once more, this time their expressions softened, as if Luz's words had managed to penetrate their mischievous facade. Edric cleared his throat awkwardly, his teasing demeanor dissipating. "Yeah, well...we know that," he muttered, his voice lacking its usual confidence.

Emira, too, seemed to reconsider her earlier actions, her playful smirk replaced by a more thoughtful expression. "We didn't mean to upset you, Amity," she admitted, her voice laced with genuine remorse. "We just... wanted to have a little fun is all. We'll try to be better, okay?"

"Yeah!" Emira chimed, eager to escape Luz's piercing gaze. "We love you, baby sister. We just thought you could use some lightening up. Won't happen again. Promise."

Amity, still overwhelmed by the turn of events, managed a small nod, feeling a mix of gratitude and relief wash over her. It was a rare sight to witness her siblings, particularly Emira, admitting their mistakes and showing genuine remorse. Luz had managed to bring out a side of them that Amity didn't know existed.

With that, the twins politely excused themselves and let the junior Blight know they would be waiting outside. Once again leaving the two girls alone.

Luz's anger began to subside, replaced by a sense of accomplishment and contentment. She offered a reassuring smile to Amity, her eyes warm with affection. "Hey Sweet Potato, are you alright now?" she asked softly, reaching out a hand to help her friend up from the floor.

Amity, her heart still fluttering with gratitude and the mention of her new nickname, took Luz's hand and allowed herself to be pulled to her feet. She felt a surge of warmth as their hands touched, a connection that went beyond words. Her voice quivered slightly as she replied, "Yeah, thanks to you... I'm alright now, Luz."

In that moment, Amity couldn't help but marvel at the incredible person standing before her. Luz had defended her, uplifted her, and shown her a side of herself she didn't fully recognize. As they stood there, the remnants of the interrupted meeting scattered around them, Amity couldn't imagine a world without Luz's unwavering support and friendship. It was a bond she cherished, one that transcended the chaos and expectations of the Boiling Isles and even her more chaotic family. And as they prepared to face the aftermath of their interrupted moment, Amity knew deep within her heart that together, they could weather any storm that came their way.

"So…" Luz started, a curious smile creeping onto her face. "What we're you going to ask me?"

Amity's cheeks flushed with a mixture of excitement and nervousness as Luz inquired about what she had been about to ask before their interrupted moment. Her mind raced, searching for the right words, but her confidence wavered after her siblings' antics. She stumbled over her words, feeling her face grow hotter with each passing second. "I, uh... I was going to... ask if... um..." Her voice trailed off, and she cast her gaze downward, unable to meet Luz's eyes.

Before she could gather her thoughts, Luz interjected, a playful grin tugging at the corners of her lips. "Actually, Amity, I was wondering if you'd like to hang out tommorow," she said, her voice filled with genuine warmth and anticipation.

Amity's eyes widened in surprise, a mix of relief and joy flooding her being. She quickly nodded, a wide smile spreading across her face. "Yes! I'd love to hang out," she replied, her voice filled with enthusiasm. Slightly grateful her crush had partially read her mind. "W-what do you have in mind?"

Luz tapped her chin thoughtfully, her eyes lighting up with an idea. "Well, Eda mentioned something about a 'Scarvest Festival' coming up," she suggested. "She said something about it being the biggest party in Bonesborough. But that could've just been the apple blood talking."

Amity's heart skipped a beat at the mention of the Scarvest Festival. She hadn't been to one in years. It was one of those few things she could recall her family actually enjoyed together. Her eyes shimmered with excitement, and she clasped her hands together. "Oh, the Scarvest Festival! It's one of my favorite holidays!" she exclaimed. "There's so much to do, and the atmosphere is amazing. Every year after the screaming winds pass, everyone in Bonesborough gets together and throws a huge party. They set up all kinds of games and cool petting zoos with little critters from across the Isles. And at the end, there's a huge dance in the town square! I'd love to go!"

Luz's smile grew wider, mirroring the growing excitement in Amity's eyes. "It's settled then," she said, her voice filled with anticipation. "Let's meet tomorrow and head out to the festival together. It's going to be so much fun."

Amity couldn't help but agree, her heart fluttering at the prospect of spending more time with Luz. The thought of exploring the festival, experiencing the games and festivities together, brought a warmth to her chest. However, she couldn't help but notice Luz's slight blush and the way she avoided the mention of dancing together. It only made her heart beat faster, knowing that there were more possibilities blooming between them.

With a final exchange of excited smiles, Amity and Luz agreed on the details and bid each other farewell for the evening. As Amity walked away, her mind buzzing with anticipation, she couldn't help but feel grateful for her siblings' interruption. It had led to this moment, where she and Luz would finally have their moment together, weaving their own story within the tapestry of the Boiling Isles. And maybe. Just maybe. Amity could confess her deepest secret to the person she loved the most in the world. She could hope her beloved crush would feel the same.

Back in the comfort of the Owl House, Luz found herself lost in a whirlwind of emotions and dreams. As she sat on the edge of her bed, her heart danced with joy at the memory of Amity's blushing face and the sparkle in her eyes. The realization of her deepening feelings had taken time, but now they surged within her, an intoxicating symphony that ignited her soul. A radiant smile graced Luz's lips as she envisioned the enchanting moments yet to come, knowing that each one would bring her closer to Amity, deepening their connection in ways she had never imagined.

In the tranquility of her room, Luz's mind wandered to tomorrow. She closed her eyes, allowing her imagination to paint a vivid picture of the Scarvest Festival, an array of diversity and magic awaiting them. In her reverie, she saw herself and Amity strolling hand in hand, their spirits intertwined like a delicate waltz. They would venture through the bustling fairgrounds, their laughter harmonizing with the jubilant melodies of the festivities. Together, they would dare to explore the exhilarating games, immerse themselves in the kaleidoscope of vibrant sights, and taste the tantalizing flavors of the diverse treats offered. Each moment shared would be a celebration of their connection, an embrace of their unique bond.

With a determined sigh, Luz promised herself that she would make tomorrow the best Scarvest Festival she ever had. The machinations of a plan began formulating in her mind. Eager to keep toying with new ideas to create the best night ever, the human teen felt the sandman pulling at her eyes. Beckoning Luz to give into her exhaustion.

As Luz settled onto her bed, a gentle sigh of contentment escaped her lips. Sleep beckoned, carrying her away to a world of dreams and possibilities. Amity's radiant smile lingered in her mind, illuminating her path and fueling her hopes for the future. With each breath, Luz embraced the anticipation of the forthcoming day, where their hearts would intertwine even further, dancing in a symphony of romance and infinite possibilities.
