There is something so exciting about going on a date with someone you actually want to go out with. Throughout my 17 years alive I have never wanted to go on a date. All of the dates I have been on previously were set up without my consent, by Sugar. I was saving myself for my soulmate. Now that I know Santana doesn't want me in that way I have opened myself up to the idea of giving someone else a chance. Skylar and I have been talking throughout the week. She is so sweet and very interested in getting to know me. She makes me feel good with her never ending abundance of compliments. We have decided that we are going to go on a date Friday to the movies and get coffee where we can sit down and talk.

On my relationship front everything is going great. My only problem has been Santana.

"I just don't understand why you need to go out with her. I still think she is weird." Santana was lounging on my bed after school. We have been hanging out and talking as often as possible. It feels like we have known each other our entire life and it is just so easy to get along with her, when she isn't talking about Skylar.

"San just drop it." I am sitting at my desk doing my homework. "Ugh, I thought you came over to help me with this." I point to my homework then turn around to face her.

She is laying on my bed kicking her feet while looking through her phone with her eyebrows scrunched. Every once in a while she gives out a huff. She is not even paying attention to what I am asking her.

"What are you looking at?" I question her. She doesn't answer me again so I stand up and make my way over to her casting a shadow on her phone. I don't get a glimpse of it before she quickly slides her phone under her out of my view.

"What was that you were looking at?"

"Nothing." Her cheeks as tinted red at being caught.

I quirk a brow at her. Then without her realizing what I am going to do I lunge at her. She is caught off guard and rolls off my bed. I succeeded in getting her phone and turn it on. She doesn't lock her phone, so I see what it is that she was looking at. To my surprise it is Skylar's Facebook page.

Santana scrambles up and quickly snatches her phone away. She puts her hand on her hip.

"That is private property."

"Why were you looking at Skylar's page?" I question ignoring her statement. "Do I have some competition." I joke with her trying to get her to lighten up again.

"Psh your eyes are playing tricks on you I would not look up that girl." Santana rolls her eyes as she takes a seat at my desk looking over my math homework that I was working on. "Didn't you need help?"

Now I roll my eyes at her. "Why were you looking her up?"

"Ugh, I was just checking to make sure she was safe enough for you to go on a date with tomorrow." Santana huffs. "Where did you say you were going again?"

"We are going to the small movie theater on main street and I better not see you there." I gave her a pointed look.

"Like I would want to see you all over each other in the back row in the theater making out." She flickers her hair over her shoulder.

"Is that what you do when you go to the movies with someone?" I feel my palms sweating when the relaxation of how very inexperienced I am starts pegging my brain.

Santana gives me a wide eyed look. As if to say, are you serious?

"Ugh no, no that is not what you should do at the movies. I expect a full review on whatever you watch." Sanatana says turning back to look at my math problem. I also spotted that her ears were a shade of red too, like she was embarrassed.

I gave Santana a curious look but she just pointed at my homework. "Britt you need to find the variable for x and y by substituting the second equation."

"I just don't get it San why do they have to add the alphabet to math it makes no sense." I get up and stand right next to her.

"You definitely cannot put the answer as 'this is not math' the teacher will not accept that." Santana giggles.

Santana picks up my book and worksheet then lays it down on my bed while laying down on her stomach. I lay down right next to her. She then takes about 15 minutes helping me out with that one problem, but she does it in a way that I kinda know what I am doing.

"I wish you went to school with me. You can explain this a lot better." I say while propping my head on my hand and looking at Santana.

She fluffs my hair. "Maybe I just know how my soulmate thinks." She winks, causing my cheeks to heat up. "Who knows with all the shit that I cause at school you might just get your wish."

I roll my eyes. "Be nice San."

"I try, my temper just gets a hold of me sometimes and I can't think."

Santana's phone starts to buzz and she looks over at it and her eyes grow wide. I see her gulp as she answers the phone. "Hola Madre." She is looking everywhere but me as she sits up and puts more distance between us. "No, I'm not at home, I am at Sam's." She is quiet as she listens then I hear her whisper 'shit' "Oh did I say Sam I meant Quinn's. I am at Quinn's." She smacks her forehead. "Yeah I am on my way home right now. Bye."

Santana hangs up her phone and starts to gather her things.

"Sorry I gotta go. I will talk to you tomorrow. Good luck on your date."

As she is talking I sit up on my bed. She reaches down and gives me a quick hug and a kiss to my cheek. She takes a moment to stare into my eyes deeply like she wants to tell me something. She shakes herself out of it before she rushes out the door.

"Britt dinner time!" My mom calls me down for dinner.

When I reach the kitchen my dad is already at the table digging into spaghetti that my mom made. I get my plate and sit down.

"So who is that pretty girl who has been stopping over lately." My mom asks while sitting down next to my dad.

My dad nods his head but doesn't look up at me just slurps up spaghetti leaving sauce everywhere.

"Ugh that is Santana." I have not told my parents that it was Santana, my soulmate yet. I don't know how they would react. My parents have always been so supportive since my mark has appeared.

"Oh I have never seen her before. Does she go to school with you?" My mom asked.

"No, she goes to that private school down the road."

"Hmmm how did you become friends then?" My dad pipes in lifting his head with sauce on his chin. I smile at him and point to his chin. "Sorry." He smiles back and wipes his chin.

"We met at the last cheer competition then again at the party I went to." I started to eat too.

"And you said her name is Santana?" My mom questioned getting a twinkle in her eye. "Is she your girlfriend? She seems to be spending a lot of time here up in your room. Are you treating her right?" My mom wiggles her eyebrows and I choke on my spaghetti.

"Really mom?" I ask after catching my breath.

She shrugs and just goes back to eating.

"She has been helping me with my homework. She has a boyfriend already." I mumble as my mom watches me closely.

"Oh so you want her to be more? Well she might have a boyfriend but who could resist the Pierce charm?"

"I know your mother couldn't" My dad pipes in.

"That is true I could not resist him. He was just so charming."

My dad nods his head. I put my head in my hands and groan.

"So is that it? You are trying to steal her away from her boyfriend?" My mom is not letting it up. "I am just saying it is weird Brittany you have always said you are waiting for your soulmate. You also don't bring that many people here." Her eyes flash with something and light up. Then she smiles. "That is it isn't it you found the girl who is your soulmate!"

My dad stands up from the table and claps. "Oh my Brittany I am so happy for you!" He looks like he is about to come around the table when I stop him.

"Okay, okay yes Santana is my soulmate, but she is with someone she cares about and is not breaking up with him. We have discussed this and have decided I should date other people too. I have a date tomorrow. Santana and I are still staying friends."

I look at their faces and they just look confused so I put an end to the discussion. "I need you guys to just let me do this my own way okay I can handle everything."

The rest of dinner is quiet as I can feel my parents having a silent conversation with their eyes between each other the whole dinner. I feel like I am getting silently judged. I just hope they don't bring it up again when Santana comes over next. We say goodnight and my parents just remind me that they love me before we go to bed.

The next day at school Santana was still not letting up about my date. She keeps telling me that I should not go on my date today. I was walking to my second to last class by myself, Mike and Sugar didn't share this one with me, they both had gym, when I felt my phone vibrate. I duck into the girls restroom and answer it.

"I am telling you Brittany this girl seems weird. Did you know on her Facebook that she likes to read vampire books Britt. She could, I don't know, want to do that thing where people drink your blood."

Santana almost sounds hysterical right now.

"Hello to you too, San, you need to calm down honey. A lot of people like those books. It does not mean that they drink blood. I will be okay, and I will let you know when I get home safely. Wait aren't you're in class." I look at my time and am pretty sure she doesn't even have passing time right now.

Santana put down the phone she will see you. I heard whispers from Santana's end. I hear her huff and I can just picture her rolling her eyes.

"Yes, I'm in class and we are working on a project. I just really think you should not go. I just don't like this girl, she seems..."

Miss. Lopez put down your phone this instant.

"Excuse me don't you see I am having an important conversation with a friend who could be putting her life endangered by some vampire."

I almost laugh because she sounds so ridiculous right now, but apparently her teacher didn't think the same thing.

Miss. Lopez, hang up now it is extremely rude to talk on your phone while you are in class, and I am sure your friend will be okay to talk to you after school.

"Whatever, Well Britt it looks like I have to go because my teacher doesn't understand the importance of saving lives. Let me know when you are done with your date with the vampire. Don't let her get too close to your neck. I'm sure she is sharpening her teeth as we speak. My teacher is just staring at me right now with her dirty ass look so I should go. Be careful bye!"

With that she hangs up her phone. I cannot believe she did that. I would have been terrified to call someone while in class. I shake my head as I head out of class and make it to my classroom just in time as the tardy bell rings.

My last class is world history and all the dates and everything start to confuse me so I start to zone out. I will have to ask San if she can help me in this class next. I am just about to fall asleep when a ball of paper hits my head. I turn to look at who threw it and of course it is Puck. He has been leaving me alone a little bit more since starting but every once in a while he finds a way to irritate me. He nods to the paper and I pick it up and unfold it. It is a crude picture of two people having sex in a locker room. I look back at him. He points to himself then to me and wiggles his eyebrows. I shake my head no and crumble up the paper again. I feel another hit my head. I unfold this one and it just says 'I can fuck you so good.' I don't even look at him this time I just give him the middle finger.

"Brittany Pierce, is there a reason you have an inappropriate gesture up?"

Fuck you Puck.

"No Mr. Johnson." I mumble and lower my head.

"If you keep interrupting the class, I will have to assign you a detention." Mr. Johnson goes back to teaching the class when I feel another paper hit my head. I ignore it but it is really irritating me. When another one hits me, Mr. Johnson finally addresses it.

"Noah Puckerman. Is there a reason why you keep throwing papers at Brittany?"

"Why yes Mr. Johnson." Puck stands up and I just want to bury myself. "I have been asking Brittany when and where we can fuck, but she is not answering me."

Mr. Johnson's face gets red he looks like he is about to explode. Around the class I can hear snickering. I put my bag over my head and just hide why Puck have to be like this. He has no shame and no filter.

"Noah and Brittany, you both can go to the principal's office. Now!"

"But I didn't do anything!" I say defending myself. "If anything, I was getting harassed by him!"

Mr. Johnson just shakes his head in disappointment. "Well, you can go explain everything to the principal." He points to the door dismissing us.

"This is bullshit!" I explode as I grab my bag and storm out.

Here I am after school in detention. How the fuck did this happen to me. It wasn't even my fault this ass keeps getting me in trouble and getting in my head.

"Hey Brittany." Puck whispers to me because of course he had to sit next to me. "Do you think the old bat would notice if we just walked on out? This should be like illegal to keep us locked up in school on a Friday afternoon."

"Leave me alone." I say for like the 100th time already.

"Oh common I was just joking how was I supposed to know they would give us a detention."

"Are you kidding me?" I just glare at him.

"Well yeah I mean if you were really down I would totally do you. You are smoking, but I was only trying to get your attention. You have been ignoring me."

"Because you have been fucking annoying me since you got here Puck. We made out once then you tried to take advantage of me when I was drunk. I would not say we are on a friendly basis. I was supposed to be on a date right now, but because of you we only get to go get a coffee after detention."

"Ah well shit happens." He shrugs then leans his head down on the table. "So, San finally broke up with Sam?"

That caught my attention. "What?"

"Isn't that who you are going out with?"

"Ugh no me and San are just friends."

"Oh I just thought with how attentive she is with you that she was trying to go after you." Once again he shrugs. "My bad. Sam would have been like super pissed anyways and I would have heard if they broke up. So who are you going on a date with then?"

"I'm not telling you?"

"Well is she hot?"

I quirk a brow. "What makes you think it is a girl?"

"Psh if you were more into boys you would have totally taken advantage of my offer. I mean I am like smoking hot." Puck decides that this calls for the opportunity to sit up and flex.

"No you are just an ass." I complain looking away at the time. I pack up my bag just as the teacher announces detention being over.

"Well you know my offer stands anytime you need." Puck calls after me as I exit the classroom.

Of course I am running late. I had to race home and change then race to the coffee shop. I also have not heard from Santana since I got the phone call. I wonder what she is doing and if she is okay. I text her to let her know I was on my way to my date and have heard nothing back.

I open the door and look around right away I see Skylar wave to me. Her green eyes are sparking. She is wearing her hair down and is dressed casually like I am. I walk over and sit across from her.

"Hey sorry I am late. A guy from my class got me in trouble today, that is why I had to change the time." I am almost out of breath. I feel like I haven't had time to calm down because I have been rushing.

"Hey, it is okay Brittany." She reaches across the table and touches my hand causing me to blush. "I just got here a couple minutes ago." She smiles sweetly at me.

The barista comes over and takes out orders. Skylar orders a cappuccino and I order hot chocolate. I don't know how people order coffee in the afternoon. The caffeine would keep me up all night. I know if Santana was here she would order a black coffee. She thinks that it makes her look tougher. Why am I thinking about her on my date?

"So I believe you owe me a few stories." Skylar laces our fingers together over the table. It feels nice, but it just feels like something is a little off. I try to shake my thoughts out of it.

"Yes, I did agree to that, didn't I?" I smile at her. "Okay, well where should I begin?"

She lets go of my hand and reaches and touches my wrist. "How about this?"

"Well, the thing is." I reach up and rub my neck. "I don't know if you will believe me when I explain."

"Try me." She winks.

So, I do. I explain how the mark appeared when Santana and I touched it when we were 6. How we didn't see each other again till cheerleading then the party where I found out she was dating Sam. I also explained how I was saving myself for her and haven't really been on a date before.

"Wow. That is a lot to take in." She sips her coffee.

"Yeah, so if it is too much I understand. I would still like to be friends."

She nods her head, and it looks like she is thinking. She really is beautiful.

"So, do you have feelings for her?"

I am not going to lie; I feel like I need to be truthful. "Yes, I think there is a pull that I will always have towards her. I can't really help it."

She nods her head. "Well, I think you are very beautiful Brittany, and you are so sweet. You could have lied to me and strung me along if you wanted to. I think that since you still have strong feelings towards her it would be safer if we just stayed friends, so feelings don't get hurt in the end."

I look down at the table and nod my head. She is right, Santana is always on my mind, but it isn't fair why Santana gets someone, but I can't. I feel tears well up in my eyes. Why do I always have to be the one waiting?

"Hey." Skylar gets up and moves over to my side. She wraps her arms around me and pulls me into a hug. I wrap my arms around her tight. "I'm sorry Brittany I just feel like it would be an unfair competition. You guys are connected, and I would always be worried you would drop me the second she was single. I think if the circumstances were different, we could be great together. You are so nice and easy to be around." She pulled back so that I could look at her.

Her green eyes are so bright.

"It's just not fair." I told her. "Why am I always the one waiting?"

"Well Britt you have to keep your hope up. There has to be a reason you both ended up with the mark. Like you said you are soulmates not friendmates your souls already belong together no matter if you try to hide it behind another relationship."

I lean my head on her shoulder. "I wish you and I could be together."

I feel her lean her head on my head. "Me too, but we will be awesome friends okay. Anytime you need me be it a rant, talk, or cuddle I will be here, okay?"

"I will cash in a cuddle right now." I feel her wrap her arms around me and hear her giggle.

"No problem."

With that unsuccessful date down, I make my way home. I am a little disappointed, but I also understand, and I am very excited to have a new friend out of the whole thing. Skylar held me until I was more relaxed than we just goofed around and talked. She is so easygoing it is hard not to like her.

I am making my way to my front door when I see movement off to the side of the house. I duck into my bushes and crawl to the side peeking over. If this burglar thinks they can sneak into my house they have another thing coming. I grab a stick as I crawl and see the person is dressed in black right under my window. I sneak right behind them.

"Hey!" I call hoping to scare them.

I hold up my stick so that if they charge, I can hit them. They turn around and pull down their hood and hold up their hands.

"Britt, wait it's me."

I drop the stick. "Santana?"
