Jaina Yuki was anxious. Her heart was beating fast within her chest which she believed everyone around the female could hear. Blue eyes wandered around the duel area and back around toward Jaden's face which was completely calm, not even worried in the slightest about his fate within the duel school he wanted to get into. How can Jaden be so calm when his entire dueling dream could end before it even begins? She honestly didn't know. Sometimes Jaina wished to be calm and collected like Jaden when it came to tests, duels, and everything in-between.
What's going to happen? She thought, hands turning into fists.
Only Jaden remained calm and relaxed.
"How can you be so relaxed?" Jaina asked her twin brother.
Jaden turned his brown eyes to look at her, giving the girl a small grin. A grin that told Jaina not to worry. "There is nothing to worry about, Jaina. Besides, everything will be just fine. My duel will be announced soon. And, besides, how else am I going to be the next King of Games?"
She let out a small breath, looking toward the ground. When Jaden says things like this. How can I not be worried?
At that moment the duelist Bastion Misawa walked up the stairs and sat down in one of the stands in front of Jaden. He seemed completely calm and composed.
"Tight duel, Bastion!" Jaden told the male.
Bastion drifted his gray eyes upward to look at Jaden for a brief moment, giving a small nod, before speaking rather bluntly; "Thank you."
Jaden gave a slight grin in return. "From the looks of it, you might be the second-best duelist here."
Bastion went stiff at the comment as Syrus looked at Jaden in bewilderment. Jaina placed her head in her hands, in hopes of making herself smaller and hidden away from what was about to happen. She understood what Jaden was talking about.
Yoko rolled his eyes, giving a small smirk. "Classic Jaden, Yubel would be proud."
Then a loud voice boomed over the speaker; "Jaden Yuki, please report to exam Field four."
Jaina peeked her eyes out from under her hands, giving a bright grin toward her brother. "All right. Looks like they are letting you duel. You were worried for nothing."
Jaden gave Jaina a look. "You mean you were worried for nothing." He grumbled before putting on his duel face. "Go time! Wish me luck, guys." Jaden began to move down the stairs only to be stopped by Bastion.
"Hey wait." Bastion called out, looking at Jaden, stopping the boy from going down the stairs. His eyebrow was raised in the air. "If I'm second-best, who's first?"
Jaina hides behind her hands once again. The answer is so embarrassing.
"Ah!" Jaden spoke, pointing a finger to himself. "Yours truly. It's what I'm best at." The only game in the whole world and the only one within school's that Jaden believed he'd always have top grades in over his many years of schooling. Dueling was in his heart and soul.
"Says the person who hasn't duel yet?" Jaina mumbled underneath her breath. The female looked up and watched Jaden walk down the stairs and away from the group.
"Wow," Syrus breathed to the brown haired female. "Your brother is so sure of himself. I wonder if he's really that good."
"He's going to need to be," Bastion stated to the blue haired male. "Look who he's dueling."
Jaina blue eyes went to the duel area and took notice of a blonde with a blue jacket. "Okay, who is he?"
"You don't know who he is?" Bastion cried out, surprised.
"Nope."
"I believe your brother and yourself are hopeless."
Jaina felt her mouth fall open at Bastion's choice of words. Did he just insult her? "Is that supposed to be a compliment or an insult?" The female wondered, eyes glaring at the male.
Yoko looked at Bastion, but the male chose not to say anything. "Wise choice."
Bastion, Syrus, Jaina and Yoko turned their attention back to Jaden as he arrived at the exam field. A platform lifted the male up toward the battle area.
Jaden expected to face another examiner in a blue uniform and glasses, but the person standing across from him surprised the young teenager. The male's outfit consists of a more regal variation on the standard Obelisk Blue uniform, complete with gold trimmings and ruffled pink collar, shoulders, upper chest, and sleeves. His blonde hair is sectioned in two layers, with the layer farthest from his face tightly-bound in a ponytail, and he also wears crescent-shaped earrings. He carries an Academy-issued Duel Disk known as a 'Duel vest,' worn horizontally across his torso, which has a motion sensor that automatically ejects cards from his Deck when he is ready to draw.
"All right! Test time!" The male exclaimed. "So son, your name?"
Jaden realized his Duel was starting and snapped out of his trance. He brought his arms to his side and straightened up to respect the older man. "Uh, Jaden, Jaden Yuki!"
"Well, uh, Jaden Yuki," the examiner said in a rather blunt tone. "I am Dr. Vellian Crowler-Department Chair of Techniques at Duel Academy!"
That was impressive to hear. "Wow, a department chair," Jaden breathed. "I had no idea. From how you were dressed-" he lifted his right hand toward the back of his neck and rubbed it. This was going to be embarrassing to say the least out loud. "I was thinking you were some kind of weird Academy mascot-like a majorette. Or a cheerleader." Then the young man gave a small laugh.
Crowler gritted his teeth together as embarrassment filled his face. Just who did this child think he was? No one insulted Dr. Vellian Crowler and got away with it.
Jaina buried her face in her hands. "Oh dear." Jaden should've kept his mouth shut. That comment was insulting the teacher and made the female embarrassed to be Jaden Yuki's twin sister. "He just insulted a teacher."
"Hey, you know," one of Chazz's friends with the blue teal hair and glasses began to speak from where the three were seated in the stands. "Now that he mentions it..." Jaden did have a point.
Chazz's other friend gave another sly comment, "This kids got some lip, huh, Chazz?"
Chazz gritted his teeth together in response, black eyes watching the duel.
"Duel vest on," Crowler said, as five cards went into the man's hand.
"Hey, that's pretty sweet, teach." Jaden spoke with amazement. "How do I get one of those cool blue duel blazers?"
"Oh, a lot of hard work and extremely high marks," the head of the blue dorm explained. It took a lot of skills to make it into duel academy and reach the top ranking dorm. This Jaden kid didn't seem to be the type that could get a perfect grade score on paper. Of course you'll have to first get into Duel Academy, the man thought with a smirk forming on his purple lips, and I intend to make certain that won't be happening.
"Well, I'm ready," Jaden exclaimed with a grin.
"So let's duel!" Both men shouted at once.
"Good luck, Jaden!" Jaina yelled from her spot beside Syrus.
"Here it goes," Jaden exclaimed as he drew his first card. He looked down at all the cards in his hands and scanned them with his brown eyes before grinning. "Sweet. I'm gonna summon Elemental Hero Avian in defense mode."
Elemental Hero Avian
Wind / level 5
A winged Elemental HERO who wheels through the sky and manipulates the wind. His signature move, Featherbreak, gives villainy a blow from sky-high.
ATK 1000 / DEF 1000
Avian was a green looking bird with white feathers. It wore a small red gauntlet on its left hand which had three sharp claws attached to it.
"I'll also throw down a facedown," Jaden states. "All right. Get your game on."
"Yes, very good," Crowler told the teen. Any duelist can do that. Don't tell me what to do. The professor thought rather bitterly. Then hit his dual desk which gave him one card. After all, since I'm using my own personal deck rather than one of those test ones. I'll be calling all the shots. I'll fail that insolent little brat and send him home in no time. This meant the older duelist had the advantage because of how powerful his cards were. "All right for this first move, I think I'll start nice and easy. I choose to play the spell card..." he picked it out of his hand of cards and held it into the air,"...Confiscation."
Confiscation
Spell card
Pay 1000 Life Points. Look at your opponent's hand, select 1 card in it and discard that card.
The card had a knight take a box of gold when some man was holding on to their leg, trying to prevent them from looking.
"Okay, so what does it do?" Jaden wondered out loud.
Jaina just bit back a groan. "Why doesn't he read about the new duel monster cards?" There we're guides always out at the game store filled with new information about Duel Monster cards, she even buys the new issue every month just to learn about the rules and cards of the game. Which seems to change every year.
"What it does is allow me to pay 1000 life points for the chance to peek at your hand." The moment Crowler began to explain Jaden's whole hand of cards began to glow a light blue. "And toss one of your cards into the graveyard." Suddenly images of Jaden's card appeared before Crowers eyes. "Oh yes, I remember some of these from back when I was a naïve rookie." Jaden bit back a groan and glared down at the male. "Now which one shall I banish? Monster reborn in the graveyard." Destroyed the card as it was shattered and placed within the graveyard. "Next I'll lay two cards face down on the field."
Crowler 4000 life points-1000 life points=3000 life points remaining
"But last and not least. I'll play heavy storm," Crowler continued.
Heavy Storm
Spell card
Destroy all Spell and Trap Cards on the field.
It had a blue background with a crow, a man, and a bunch of trees blowing in the air with a swirl of wind around them.
"It destroys every other spell or trap card that's out on the field."
A strong gust of wind sounded and Jaden's facedown card and Crowler's two facedown cards were destroyed.
Jaina let out a small gasp. "Why did he destroy his own facedown card? Unless... those cards can only be activated from the graveyard." Sometimes cards had to be destroyed in order to be used in a duel. This was not good. "Jaden," she whispered.
Could Jaden actually win this duel?
"Whoopsie," Jaden mused toward Crowler. "Did you forget that you had two trap cards out on the field yourself?"
Crowler gave a small chuckle. "Now, now," he told the teenager. "You mustn't speak out of turn, young scholar."
Then a dark mist started to fill the area around Jaden and Crowler.
"What's happening?" Jaden wondered, confused.
"Nothing's happening," the teacher explained before smirking and moving out his hand toward the field. "Not yet..." That was when two golden face monsters came out of the mist and stood looking at Jaden. "That's about to change."
Most of the students watching the golden face monsters rushed up and gasped.
"Uh, could somebody tell me what's going on?" Syrus wondered, confused.
"The two trap cards that Dr. Crowler had on the field were called; Statue of the wicked. It's a special trap that creates a vicious token monster when destroyed." Bastion explained to Syrus and Jaina, who was listening to it. "That's why he played a heavy storm."
"Wow, you know your stuff, Bastion," Jaina spoke up, impressed. She's never met anyone that could know information about duel monsters just by watching a duel. The male remembered everything about the card like it was written on a piece of paper beside him.
"Of course I do," Bastion answered. "I'm one to create several decks based on formulas."
Formulas? The female thought as she blinked her blue eyes, confused. "You mean. Math."
"Yep."
He uses math in duels? Jaina never imagined she'd hear those words after dueling. "That's nice." It was nice, that was the only thing she was going to say on the subject.
Chazz's teal haired friend began to explain, "A card that strong couldn't be in one of the test decks. Crowler must be using his own."
"Then this is over," Chazz's other friend stated. "No applicant could beat the deck of an expert like Dr. Crowler."
"Yeah, it's impossible," the teal haired kid agreed. "Don't you think Chazz?"
"Yeah," the other friend agreed, looking at Chazz. "What do you think, Chazz?"
Chazz just grinned. "I think I'm gonna enjoy watching Crowler mop the floor with our mouthy little friend down there." That brown haired male didn't know when to keep his mouth shut. This Jaden sure did have a mouth and no respect. "I only wish he treated all the other second-rate duelists who apply to this academy the same way."
Zeke just stared with wide eyes. Just what was Crowler doing? "I can't believe he's using his own deck." That kid doesn't stand a chance.
Banner just grinned, walking up the stairs to join the other teachers, and petted his cat. "It will be fine, Zeke. Just watch the match."
"But…" Zeke tried to say only to pause after a moment.
"The rumors about Crowler are true," Banner breathed, petting his cat. Only his eyes seemed to be on Jaden and slowly moved toward Jaina. The male wondered if they were siblings.
"You mean he talks a big game but can't win a signal duel." Zeke stated. He'd heard the rumors about the teacher all over Duel Academy. Crowler was perfect at teaching but not dueling. Which made the male feel slightly better now. "Maybe the kid does have a chance."
Meanwhile at the top of the stands, Alexis was standing by Zane, watching the duel. "What an elitist snob bullying some amateur with his very best cards." This Duel was a mess match in the young female's mind.
"You're too soft Alexis," Zane stated, bluntly. The female turned her head and looked at the third year student. "I just hope we get to see that legendary rare monster Crowler has stashed away in that deck of his." That would make this duel impressive, even though the third year doubts Jaden would be able to pull off a win against it.
"Ready for your next lesson?" Crowler wondered to Jaden.
Jaden gave a joyful laugh. "You bet. I can't remember the last time learning was this much fun."
Jaina smiled. At least her brother was finding joy in the middle of a serious situation. "Classic Jaden." Nothing could ever bring her brother's spirits down.
Crowler didn't understand what was wrong with this kid. No one would be laughing at a time like this. Just who was this Jaden? A fool or someone without a brain. He narrowed his eyes and gave a small hum, "Yes. Well, I'm quite an excellent teacher. Thank you." Now back to the Duel. "Now I sacrifice my two wicked tokens, then he lifts a card high into the air, "And summon Ancient Gear Golem."
Everyone in the crowd gasps. No one has ever seen this monster before until now.
Jaina felt her heartbeat quickly. "Ancient Gear…What?" That teacher had such a rare and nearly unbeatable monster in his duel. It officially occurred to the female that Jaden wasn't being tested by a normal exam duel.
Oh, no, she thought with a grimace. This was all my fault. Jaden was never going to get into Duel Academy now. He wouldn't be able to beat something like that. Not with his deck. His dream is going to be destroyed because I forgot to check the blankets on the floor.
"Jaina, calm yourself," Yoko said.
Jaina looked up. Who just called her name? Only when she looked around her but neither Syrus nor Bastion spoke. But she didn't see anyone else around. "Didn't either of you say something?"
Syrus shook his head. "No, why?"
Did she hear me? Yoko wondered, concerned and surprised. But she still can't see me. Not yet.
"I just thought…" Jaina paused before looking away. Maybe her mind was playing tricks on her and nothing more. "Never mind." Blue eyes landing back on the duel field as a new Duel monster rises from the ground in a circle of light.
Ancient Gear Golem
Earth / Level eight
Cannot be Special Summoned. If this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate any Spell/ trap cards until the end of the damage step. If this card attacks a defense position monster, inflict piercing battle damage.
ATK 3000 / DEF 3000
It was a large monster made out of gears. It looked like a giant stone statue with a metal helmet from the time of knights on its head. Only green gear pieces seemed to keep its arms and legs connected to the upper part of the monster's body.
"Wow," Alexis breathed, amazed. "There it is. The legendary rare card."
Zane gave a small nod of his head, not even phased by the sight. "I'd say we're about to find out just what makes it so legendary."
Jaden stares with wide eyes, brown eyes shaking with excitement.
"That's a…" Jaina mumbled as she stared at the huge monster that towers in front of her brother. "One big duel monster." Ancient Gear Golem's attack was 3000 and so was the monster's defense points. How on earth was Jaden going to beat that?
Hopefully Jaden has a card to defeat it, Yoko thought, mouth set in a grimace. If he had Yubel… this Duel would've been over real quick. Only Jaden no longer has her.
"Now, now," Dr. Crowler mocked the duelist. "I hope you're not too scared of my legendary Ancient Gear Golem."
Don't let them see you sweat Jaden. You got this. Jaina thought. Her brother had to win this. Surely his deck would somehow allow the male to pull off a win. She's seen Jaden pull off impossible wins before against her own deck.
Jaden gave a cocky smirk which made amusement dance within his eyes. "Aw, no way! I've always wanted to take one on!"
His reply shocked and amazed everyone within the stands. Everyone could see the impossible odds of Jaden winning a duel against Crowler, but here he was with a level head. Bastion and Syrus looked at each other, stunned. Jaina grinned and gave a small laugh because this duel was only exciting her brother to his very core because Jaden was staring down the legendary monster like he didn't have a care in the world.
This was an unexpected reaction, but to those that knew the male expected it.
Yoko grinned when Jaina gave a laugh. This was Jaden Yuki and he will never change no matter how much time has passed.
"Jaina," Syrus spoke to the girl.
Jaina turned her head to look at the smaller blue haired boy. "Yes, Sy?"
"Your brother is either brave or nuts!"
The brown haired female gave another laugh which surprised the blue haired boy. The comment from the male and how Jaden was acting was all Jaina needed to no longer worry about duel. Jaden was going to win this. "He always is," she replied.
"Which part?"
"Both," she conforms.
On the other side of the stadium Zane, the top duelist of the third year students from Duel Academy, couldn't believe his eyes or ears. This duel was insane. Jaden Yuki was very insane. "He's staring down that legendary rare monster like he doesn't have a care in the world. I guess the youth and inexperience have their benefits after all. Huh, Alexis?"
The girl was more confused about the duel than Zane's words. "Come on. Give it a rest, Zane." She didn't want to hear the older duelist's commentary. "At least the kid is showing some backbone."
"There won't be much of it to show after this," he bluntly replied.
Crowler gave a mighty laugh which echoed across the room, "Golem, attack! Mechanized Melee!"
Ancient Gear Golem's red eye glowed to life as its metal gears began to turn as the monster powered up before delivering a punch at the defensive Elemental Hero Avian with a massive stone fist. The hero reeled from the blow, and then vanished from the field.
"Aw, Jaden's monster didn't stand a chance," Syrus cried with a drop of sweat running down his brow. "His defense points were way too low." Then he gave a small shake of his head, worried, "This isn't looking good."
Bastion gave a nod. "And it's about to get a lot worse. When the Ancient Gear Golem attacks a monster in defense mode, the difference between its attack points and the defending monster's defense points gets dealt to the opponent as damage."
"Oh no," Jaina whispered. "That means Jaden's getting hit with 2000 points of damage."
Jaden's 4000 life points did take a hit.
Ancient Gear Golems' attack was 3000 when Avian's defense was 1000.
3000-1000=2000
Jaden's life points 4000-2000=2000
"Don't feel bad," Crowler said breezily. He was filled with glee when Jaden grimaced and was looking to the ground. Finally the boy was beginning to despair. "This is the top dueling school in the country. Not everyone is cut out to be."
Jaina gave a grin. "He's not crying. He's laughing. Jaden's enjoying every moment of this."
Truthfully, to the female's words Jaden was laughing and not crying. The young teen lifted his head and exclaimed, "Boy, I really want to come to your school now, Teach. You really know your stuff."
Crowler gritted his teeth, furious. Can't you take a hint? He will not be allowed to pass this exam and he certainly won't be permitted to make a mockery of my deck!
Jaden smiled, impressed with himself because Crowler must be proud of him. Just look at him and tremble. He must really be impressed by me.
The young male couldn't have been farther from the truth.
The male reached down his deck to pull out a card to start his turn. Only Jaden heard a faint, echoing whisper. The teen went stiff from the shock of the sound when he realized it was coming from his deck. The teen quickly drew the next card and it was The Winged Kuriboh card that Yugi gave him.
"Oh, it's you!" Jaden exclaimed with a grin, staring at the card.
Something just tells me it belongs to you. Those had been Yugi's words.
Maybe the King of Games was correct because Jaden had heard and felt something from this duel monster.
The Winged Kuriboh's white wings began to glow.
Somethings starting to tell me that, too. Jaden thought with a grin.
Then the duel monster seemed to wink at him.
Did it really just wink at him?
Jaden had no time to wonder because all he did was wing and realized that must be a sign to play the card. "I'll take that as a sign to play you." Then he placed the card onto the field. "I summon Winged Kuriboh in defense mode!"
"Huh?" Jaina breathed, blue eyes going wide from the shock of the monster's name Jaden had summoned as a cute monster like the brown will puff ball with cute little white wings that appeared onto the field. "When did he get that card?"
Winged Kuriboh
Light / level 1
Fairy / effect type; if this card on the field is destroyed and sent to the GY: For the rest of this turn, you take no battle damage.
ATK 300 / DEF 200
Because that card was not in Jaden's deck. Jaina had never seen the male use it before. So where did that Winged Kuriboh come from? Had it been from the lunch box buried in the backyard, but Jaina had doubts because Jaden and her looked through all the cards last night and Winged Kuriboh was not in that box.
Yoko even raised an eyebrow in question.
When did Jaden get that card? Neither could find a good answer, but Jaina found the new monster adorable.
"And I'll place a card facedown," Jaden adds before ending his turn. "Not bad, huh, teach?"
Crowler gave a wicked chuckle. "No. Not bad, but you must understand, I'm a master technician. A Kuriboh to me is rather ordinary. Even one with wings is no match for Ancient Gear Golem. It's a textbook mistake. Don't feel bad."
Zeke shook his head. "Crowler seems too overconfident. He seems to have forgotten Kuriboh's special ability." That was going to be the professor's last mistake.
Banner gave a nod. "Yes, Kuriboh was the perfect card to play."
"Now let's proceed," Crowler said, looking down with a grin on his purple lips. A card slid out of his dual disk and into his hand. "With the legendary Ancient Gear Golem-attack that Kuriboh with Mechanized Melee!"
The Ancient Gear Golem raised a metal fist and smashed into the Kuriboh. The little puff ball disappears off the field with a cute little cry.
Jaden gave a grimace from the hit. Sorry, Winged Kuriboh.
Jaina let out a small breath. "Thank the Duel Monster Spirits for that Winged Kuriboh." Because Jaden wouldn't be taking any damage from Crowler's monster this turn.
Crowler raised an eyebrow. This duel should've been over. "Check your gear," he spat at the teenage boy. "Your life points haven't changed."
The brown haired male smiled. "My gears fine. On the turn Winged Kuriboh is destroyed, I take no zero damage."
The teacher gritted his teeth together in a snarl because what Jaden just spoke was correct. Ancient Gear Golems ability is canceled by Winged Kuriboh's. That meant Jaden's life points wouldn't have reached zero and the duel would keep going.
"How about that?" Alexis answered rather impressively. "A technique the good doctor didn't know."
"No one can be expected to know every technique, Alexis," Zane explained, defending his favorite teacher. The third year was one of a few students in Duel Academy that actually liked Crowler. "Especially one as obscure as that."
"Yeah, well that kid sure knew it."
Crowler could accept what had taken place within this round. He didn't mind for the duel to last a little longer. "Fine, fine. I guess your lame little monster saved you there."
"Hey, slow down, teach," Jaden said in his monster's defense. "You may have beat him, but it doesn't give you the right to call him lame." He never liked anyone calling a duel monster lame. That was why the male always admired his sister's deck because all of her monsters were cute and could be considered lame by many. But no duel monster card was ever lame. It always depends on how the monster is used within the duel.
"Oh yes," Dr. Crowler said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I forget how attached you new Duelists get on your monsters. I'm sorry."
Zeke rolled his eyes. "Drop the sarcasm, Crowler. That little monster outsmarted you."
"You should be sorry, teach," Jaden exclaimed with a glimmer within his brown eyes. Now it was time to make his move. "Because by attacking my Winged Kuriboh, you set off a trap card."
Jaina's blue eyes grew wide at the words as a grin formed onto her face. "Time for a comeback!"
Jaden's trapped card flipped over to reveal;
Hero Signal
Trap card
You can only activate this card when a monster you control is destroyed. Special Summon 1 level 4 or lower 'Elemental Hero' monster from your hand or deck.
The card's design was once of a dark city with a skylight shining the letter 'H' into the night. (Basically the Bat signal from DC)
"It's one of my favorite trap cards and was personally given to me by my sister. Hero Signal!" Jaden exclaimed to a stunned Crowler. "That brings out my second elemental hero, Burstinatrix!"
Elemental Hero Burstinatrix
Fire / Level 3
A flame manipulator who was the first Elemental HERO woman. Her burst fire burns away villainy.
ATK 1200 / DEF 800
The Duel monster wore a red hero's uniform, red eye mask, and a golden helmet on her head. Long, black wings streamed from her head, looking like hair.
"My favorite female hero," Jaina exclaimed to Syrus.
"Really?" the blue haired boy wondered.
"Well," Jaina answered sheepishly, blue eyes gazing downward in embarrassment. "She is the only female in the group so…"
"By default she's your favorite," Bastion concluded.
"Yeah," the brown-haired female answered with a nod.
Jaden gave a small smirk before drawling a card and saying; "My turn." It was his turn to turn this duel around. His brown eyes stared down at the card and realized it was the one he needed to pull off a win. "Alright Winged Kuriboh-this next one's gonna be for you. Here goes nothing. First off I'm going to bring back Avian to my hand with the spell card; the warrior returning alive."
The Warrior Returning Alive
Spell card
Target one monster in your GY; add that target to your hand.
It was a card used to bring back a hero from the graveyard. The picture on the spell card was of a knight in shiny armor with blonde hair that was leaning against a large sword.
Once Avian was back within Jaden's hand, he said; "Now I'm gonna summon him to the field."
Elemental Hero Avian
Wind / level 5
A winged Elemental HERO who wheels through the sky and manipulates the wind. His signature move, Featherbreak, gives villainy a blow from sky-high.
ATK 1000 / DEF 1000
"Oh okay," Crowler mocked once the winged hero arrived on the field once again. "Another amateurish mistake but this is good, this is good. Now would anyone like to tell me what our little friend-"
"Actually," Jaden intercepted, "I wasn't done yet. See…I know my two heroes aren't very powerful by themselves but if I can form them together it's another story and I have just the card to unite them," he announced as he showed the once card that can save this duel.
Polymerization
Spell card
Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, using monsters from your hand or your side of the field as Fusion Materials.
The card began to glow as its spell activated on the two monsters.
"Polymerization join Avian and Burstinatrix!" Jaden announced as the monsters turned into dust and swirled around each other to form a new monster. "There he is…The Elemental Hero Flame Wingman."
The Elemental Hero Flame Wingman
"Elemental HERO Avian" + "Elemental HERO Burstinatrix"
Must be Fusion Summoned. When this card destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the GY: Inflict damage to your opponent equal to the ATK of the destroyed monster in the GY.
ATK 2100 / DEF 1200
The Duel Monster was a creature of green with a giant white wing and on its hand was a giant red dragon.
"Jaden's favorite card," Jaina breathed with exciting bubbling within her. Elemental Hero Flame Wingman was Jaden's end game move for many duels.
"I hope your Gear Golem is ready for a clash of the Titan's," Jaden announced out loud before ginning. "So Teach, what do you think?"
"I think you're dueling very well for an amateur, but next time try playing a monster that has more attack points than what's already out."
Zane, Alexis, and Chazz had gone stiff in their seats.
Syrus was confused, "What does he mean?"
"He means that Wingman's attack points are no match for his Golem's 3000," Bastion explained with pity in his voice. "Shame too because when the Wingman destroys a monster that monsters attack points are dealt as damage to its owner."
Syrus frowned. "Wait…you mean they're deducted right out of his life points. Oh that would have been a great way for Jaden to turn things around."
"Well maybe your friend's brother is as good as he says he is, he might still find a way."
"Wow…does Jaina really seem to be my friend?"
Jaina just nodded her head. "Of course I'll be your friend Syrus and so will Jaden."
"Oh," Syrus answered in surprise.
"But don't worry, my brother still isn't done with his turn," the young girl admits to the boys with a grin. "Crowler is going to lose." The female knew for sure that would be the outcome.
"All right young scholar," Crowler spoke as he let out a small breath. "I don't mean to rush you but I am a busy man. Are you done yet?"
"Of course I'm not done yet," Jaden spat back to the teacher, "and of course I knew my Wingman had less attack points than your Golem." He wasn't dumb, but not the smartest within the classroom. He began to place his card into the field spell area of the duel desk. "That's why I have this…Skyscraper."
Skyscraper
Spell card
If an "Elemental HERO" monster attacks a monster that has a higher ATK, the attacking monster gains 1000 ATK during damage calculation only
The card activated as buildings and the night sky began to take over the field as Wingman stood on top of a building that overlooked the town.
Flame Wingman's attack-2100 + Skyscrapers 1000 ATK = 3100
"Now Wingman is stronger than Gear Golem," Jaina explained to Syrus with a grin. "Win this Jaden!"
"Yeah, win this!" Syrus joined in.
Jaden grins at the cheers from his sister and new found friend. "All right, Flame Wingman, go show those heroics and attack that Ancient Gear Golem."
Crowler wasn't even aware of the change made within Jaden's monster's attack points. "Fine with me. Bring him on. This silly little Skyscraper field card hasn't lowered my Golems' attack level by one point."
Zeke shook his head. "Is Crowler being serious right now?" This was all turning into a very bad joke and made the older Phoenix brother wonder how Crowler even got a PHD in dueling. Aster was smarter than Crowler with two PHDs and the young boy would've noticed the change between the monsters. "My younger brother is smarter than this fool."
"His overconfidence gets him again," Banner hummed.
"I should've been the one to Duel Jaden, but if Crowler wants the embarrassment then so be it.
Wingman lanced into the air and heads for Golem.
"You know what Teach," Jaden said to Crowler. "You're right this Skyscraper field hasn't lowered your Golems' attack points. What it's done is raise my Elemental Hero Wingman by a grand total of 1000."
"Wait! Time out!" Crowler shirked in shock. This couldn't be happening. How could he lose to a slacker? He should've listened to Mr. Phoenix and allowed the younger male to Duel Jaden. This was very bad. How was he going to look at his precious blue students in the eyes at Duel Academy?
"Go…skydive scorcher!" Jaden tells his hero, not showing any mercy.
Wingman hit the Golem and ended the duel.
"This can't be…" Crowler breathed with shame and shock in his voice. "He was my very best card."
"And because of my Wingman's super power. The attack points of that Golem are dealt straight to your life points, sweet huh?"
Crowler began to panic as his monster fell on top of him as his life points hit zero within a matter of seconds.
No one felt bad as the students cheered for Jaden.
"That's game," Jaden announced with a wink of his brown eye with a grin. "So I guess I passed the test, huh, Teach?"
Winner: Jaden Yuki
Zeke gave a small grin as Crowler's monster came crashing down as the teacher was defeated.
"That was a very good match," Banner said.
"Yeah. It was," Zeke agreed with a grin.
Banner looked at Zeke for a moment with curious eyes. "Doesn't your brother have a hero deck as well?"
Aster Phoenix did have a HERO deck, except it wasn't like Jaden's. It was the Destiny Hero deck. A personal deck created for Aster by their deceased father. Zeke's own Plant deck was created by their father as well, but it was known to the public. Only Aster's real deck was never said to the public and kept hidden to many.
Only that deck might not ever be allowed to be used in the Pro League.
Any Duel Monster card can be used on a Duel Disk. If the card can be played on a Duel Disk, then it should be an official card within the game. Except if they weren't officially released then playing the card or cards in a real Pro League duel could end the match because no one knew who or where those cards came from. They would be labeled illegal cards to play in a real duel.
Pegasus had known about cards and had made sure those cards that had been created for the brothers had been registered and not just test samples. Even with the creator of Duel Monsters help, Aster still didn't use them in any real match.
Maybe the Destiny heroes will never see the light of day.
"Yeah," Zeke breathed to Banner's question. "Only he rarely uses them."
He knew Aster used them, but kept hidden the reason behind the cards not appearing in the public eye.
His little brothers Avenge plan for their father might get him killed, but no one would ever know that the monster demon hunting down duelists across the world; especially card thieves or criminals, was Aster Phoenix because no one has ever seen the Destiny Hero deck before.
"Oh," Banner breathed with a shake of his head. "That's a pity."
Elsewhere within the stands Chazz just stared with black eyes shaking from the shock of the Duel's outcome.
How did Crowler lose to the likes of Jaden Yuki?
"It must be dumb luck," Chazz reasoned because that was the only explanation for this outcome. "No way Crowler could lose to some flunky." He would have to test his theory about Jaden only winning by luck sometime at Duel Academy himself.
Meanwhile Alexis was grinning at the impressive win.
"That kids got a future here," she exclaimed to Zane, who had already walked away.
Jaden's sister and two new friends were within the stands cheer to their hearts content.
"All right," Syrus shouts with glee. "Yeah, Jaden."
"Yeah, that's my brother!" Jaina shouts with glee as well.
Yoko just stood and shook his head. "Yubel would be proud."
"Nice, Bastion breathed out loud. "I could use a little competition."
The brown hair girl gave a grin at the comment. "My brother will look forward to it."
"Really?" the male asked with a grin.
"Yep."
Jaina felt her smile grow at her brother's victory as calm entered her mind.
Now the two of them are going to duel Academy. Together. Many adventures would be on the horizon for the both of them.
We're going to Duel Academy.
Duel Academy. Get ready for the Yuki twins.

.
Jaden and Jaina are officially going to Duel Academy.
Jaina did hear Yoko in this chapter but it was very brief. She also learned about Bastion and how he Duel's. Also some small amount of information.
Sorry if this was basically the show episode in written form. I basically wanted to add Jaina and Zeke's reaction to the duel. (Even though, most of the time that's what happens in ever Yu Gi Oh episode when someone duels.)
Zeke's deck is a planet and rose base deck. It's styled after Yuri's (from Yu Gi Oh Arc V) and Akiza's (from Yu Gi Oh 5D's) cards.
Next chapter will be an original chapter. Jaina learns about how Jaden got the Winged Kurioh card. They stop by the card game store to see Grandpa Muto and Tea along with Duke, learning something about Yoko along the way. Meanwhile Zeke meets up with Aster.
I have some questions for the readers and reviews of this fic; should I keep explaining every signal monster card ever time the card appears? I'm basically just repeating the ATK and DEF and extra information on the same cards over and over again. But do you need to be reminded what the card is every time it appears in the story? Because I'm thinking about only explaining monster card information once when they appear the first time and not second time when they repair.
Also do you guys want to put the information on the spell and trap cards, or just let the duelist explain them like in the show?
