Chapter 15

Amanda had just come back to the boys' bedroom with the magazine Phillip had been caught with, and sitting back down in the desk chair stated calmly as she pointed to the magazine,"Okay, Fellas...Now, there are pictures in here that are inappropriate for your age group to be looking at, and I will explain it to you the best way that I can...Phillip, Honey, what were you thinking when you saw these pictures? And please, don't be embarrassed to tell me or ask me about anything here, alright?"

Phillip pondered what his mother asked for a moment, and then replied with a gesture towards his chest and then below his stomach, as his face turned a crimson red, "Well, I was kinda shocked actually, b-because I saw up there how big she was, and then down lower-the stuff there..Um, I-I mean-B-But Rich was staring at it, and he was laughing, and then, so I wouldn't look like a dork, I laughed with him. And then he said if I wanted to take it home to finish looking at it, I could...I'm sorry, Mom."

Amanda swallowed, seeing how hard it was for Phillip to express his feelings, and answered softly touching his hand, "It's-It's alright, Sweetheart. Those areas you just mentioned are private parts of a woman's body. But just a minute, here...I want to talk to Jamie as well now..."

Opening the magazine to a certain page, Amanda then showed it to Jamie, commenting firmly, to both her sons, "This is what your brother was looking at. Jamie...Boys, I want you to listen to me very carefully. The human body is nothing to be ashamed of! However, these types of pictures are inappropriate for your age groups to be looking at because it's a type of pornography."

As Jamie stared at the centerfold and then quickly looked away, becoming embarrassed, Amanda remarked continuing, "What that means is that it's not proper, or decent for our society. Now, there are nude beaches that some people have gone to in parts of the country here, and other parts of the world, but I know for a fact that your dad and I don't want you exposed to that type of thing...Of course, when you're grown, and move out of this house, that will be totally your own decision, okay?"

Jamie then asked, "So, Mom? Did-Did you and Dad ever-"

Phillip stunned, groaned loudly, "Geez, Jamie!"

Amanda,understanding what Jamie was getting at, blinked several times and blushing slightly, shook her head vehemently as she quickly answered with a hand up, "It's alright, Phillip! Jamie, we absolutely did not, Sweetheart! We would never do that!"

Phillip, clearing his throat queried, "But then why do those girls pose for the magazine if it's really not right?"

Amanda sighed deeply and remarked, "Well, Sweetheart, because sometimes, they don't have enough money to support themselves and are usually conned into thinking that's it's an easy way to make a lot of money...And sometimes, there are girls, and boys, unfortunately, around your age or even younger, that are exploited this way- meaning these photographers take full advantage of people, promising the children's parents they'll have better lives because of these jobs...And also, these young women that pose for this type of magazine sometimes don't have anyone to speak on their behalf, to show them the right direction to go. They feel it's the only way they can survive in this world...It's sad, but it happens...So, do you understand what I'm saying here, Guys?"

When Phillip and Jamie nodded slowly, Amanda answered quietly, "Okay. I think I've left you with enough to think about here...If you want, we can talk another time about the other stuff-"

Jamie asked, "Other stuff?"

Phillip responded to Jamie, "Yeah, she means the puberty stuff."

Phillip then looking at his mother queried, "Mom, would it be alright if we wait for Dad for that stuff? We promise we won't talk to our friends about it or anything else, okay?"

Swallowing hard, Amanda went to both Phillip and Jamie, and giving them hugs, commented, "Sure..."

Then, handing Phillip the magazine back, she remarked, "Here, you can give this back to Rich tomorrow, and please tell him I don't want you looking at any more of these, alright?"

But Phillip, putting up a hand answered, "It's okay, Mom...Rich's folks found out about the magazines, and now Rich and his brother are grounded, and are having a talk this weekend with their dad. You can get rid of that."

Amanda, sighed with relief, then taking the magazine back, nodded, and looking at her watch, stated, "Oh, thank you! I'll definitely do that...Well, look. If your homework's done, then wash up for dinner, and then after dinner, you can watch TV for a bit before going to bed, huh?"

The boys nodded, and Amanda kissed them both responding, "I do want to thank you for hearing me out during this discussion, and even though it was uncomfortable for you both, I want to make it clear, that if you have any other questions about this or anything else, you can still come to me or Grandma, or your dad, alright? I love you."

The boys chimed, "We love you, too, Mom."

And as Amanda left the boys alone with their thoughts, she headed downstairs, and Dotty asked her as she entered the kitchen, "So, how did it go?"

Amanda sighed commenting distractedly as she threw the offending magazine in the trash, "I-I think they understood at least part of it. But I only discussed the magazine...As it turns out, I'm not really feeling up to the "puberty stuff" anyway...Think I'll let Joe handle that, after all..."

Dotty, giving Amanda a hug, remarked, "Good girl! Dinner's almost ready anyway-"

But Amanda went over to the couch, and sitting down, answered tiredly, "Y-You and the boys can eat...I-I'm just gonna sit here for a while, and absorb everything that happened, okay?"

Dotty, with a concerned look at her daughter replied, " Of course, Darling... Well, now I think you truly understand what I went through after our little talk all those years ago, hmm?"

Amanda nodded, and with a deep sigh, remarked, "Y-Yeah...This was a real eye opener as well, I'll tell you..."

But Amanda, later that evening, called Joe to tell him to be ready when he came to visit for the other important talk with their sons, letting him know that she handled the magazine discussion, but that he would discussing puberty with them, and after she hung up with her ex-husband, she readied herself for bed, knowing that this was only the first of many life changing hurdles she had to face concerning the boys...

Would the boys be ready for it?

Would she?
