She Can And She Did
Chapter 17
Amanda came home close to 9, and it was quiet. She guessed that the boys had already turned in, as well as her mother.
After going around to check all the locks, she placed her purse on the kitchen counter, and then found a note, with an envelope beside it.
Seeing the note was from Phillip, she read it.
"Mom,
The envelope beside my note is from Mr. Gilland. He had the same note for every other parent, whose kids got talked to, but he asked me to thank you for talking to me as well...Goodnight."
Amanda, curious, opened the envelope, to read Mr. Gilland's note, which read,
"Mrs. King,
You are to be commended on the talk you had with Phillip. He's a bright young man, and if half the parents in this school district treated this issue the way you have, there would be no further problems in the future... Sincerely, Brian Gilland
Amanda, puzzled, thought, Wait...Did Phillip tell him we had the puberty talk?
Shaking her head, she gathered the notes up, and heading upstairs, put Phillip's note in her nightstand drawer, and then headed to her mother's room, with Mr. Gilland's note.
Thankfully, the light was still on, and she knocked softly, asking, "Mother? May I come in?"
Dotty answered, "Yes, Dear."
Amanda came in, and said, "I found the notes downstairs when I came in...Mother, did you read Mr. Gilland's note? From the way it sounds, Mr. Gilland assumes I had the puberty talk with Phillip?"
But Dotty shook her head commenting, "No, Sweetheart. Phillip was honest and told him that it was about the magazine, and that his father would speak to he and his brother when he returned from his trip...So, problem solved-"
Amanda, shaking her head, remarked handing her the note, "Just a moment, Mother...Read this, and then tell me what you make of it..."
Dotty, reading the note, shrugged, and handing the note back to her daughter querying, "It's fine. Why do you seem troubled by it?"
Amanda sighed replying, "Because it sounds like not all the parents cared enough to talk to their kids the way I talked to Phillip and Jamie, and just when did I become the spokesperson for the neighborhood?"
Dotty put up a hand answering, "Oh, Darling! Stop fretting so! He's thanking you for putting your initial fears aside, and being upfront with Phillip and Jamie. Mark my words! Somehow, it will get out to the other parents, that their children will get information elsewhere, and they had better start discussing the issue with them...Now, enough about that...How was your dinner with Lee?"
Amanda chuckled remarking, "Oh, it was fine...He went fishing tonight."
Dotty, confused, asked, "Wait! I thought you had dinner-"
Amanda smiled, answering, "We did. But I'm talking about his fishing for compliments, certain information..."
Dotty shook her head querying, "I sense he fished with the right bait? Why am I talking like I know what you're talking about, Young Lady?"
Amanda shrugged commenting, "Well, he hemmed and hawed, wanting to know your real opinion of him-"
Dotty sighed replying, "And you told him about my eleven theory? Oh, Amanda! How could you?! I'm so embarrassed! That was supposed to stay with you and I, Honey..."
Amanda giggled, responding, "It was fine, Mother. I had to explain it to him, anyway."
Dotty asked incredulously, "You-You had to explain "eleven" to him? I can't believe it-"
Amanda, waving it away, stated, "Oh, Mother! It's just that it threw him for a loop. I guess he's never been around that kind of approval rating before..."
Dotty replied, "Well, since you've already introduced the subject to Lee, why not invite him for dinner tomorrow? He can officially meet the boys, and you two can stop pretending you're just friends, or whatever couples such as yourselves choose to tell people these days, hmm?"
Amanda, shaking her head, hugged her mother, answering, "Mother! I love that you worry about me, but I really don't want this to scare him away, you know?"
Dotty, returning the hug. stated, "Listen, your daddy isn't here to give him the once over, and he wasn't around when you and Joe started dating, so-"
Amanda protested, "Oh, but Lee has already been here, and-"
Dotty shook her head commenting, "Yes, but that was his choice, Dear...It was by no means a grilling session, but I already approve of him, so the rest will be a piece of cake, alright?"
Amanda sighed, replying, "Okay, I'll talk to Lee tomorrow about it...Good night, Mother."
Dotty answered, "Good night, Honey..."
And as Amanda went to her own room to change and go to bed, she thought, Funny...I don't remember her rating Joe a certain way...Wonder why?
Laying down finally to sleep, Amanda then thought with a shrug, Oh, well...Point is moot now anyway...
