She Can And She Did

Chapter 25

Lee and the boys came back to the house late that afternoon, and he parked the car in front of the garage, as he noticed his car parked at the curb.

As they entered the house, Lee patted Phillip's shoulder, saying with a gesture, "Go on and lay down on the couch, Chief, and I'll get you something for your stomach."

As Phillip thanked him and did what he asked, Jamie answered to Phillip, "And you call me a dweeb?"

Phillip, going to the couch, glared at Jamie, responding tersely, "You had what I did! How come you're not sick?"

Jamie shaking his head at his brother, stated, " Because I didn't wolf it like you did, and I didn't have that huge slurpee you did before we left, and barf in the parking lot or the car either-"

Phillip, about to go to Jamie, snarled, "Shut up already! Just 'cause you're Mom's little runt-"

Lee, getting between them as Jamie taunted, "Look who needs Mommy now-", and they were about to come to blows, answered firmly, "Neutral corners, Fellas! Phillip, go lay down! Jamie, go find some rags and cleaning stuff and a bucket so we can clean up the back seat!"

As Jamie went to the laundry room to collect the items, Lee was hunting through the kitchen cabinets, when Dotty came down, querying, "What on earth is all the yelling about? What happened today?"

Lee stated with a sigh, "It was fun today, but Phillip had a little too much to eat and drink, and unfortunately got sick in the car on the way back-"

Jamie piped in with, "The parking lot too, Grandma!"

Lee yelled back to Jamie, "Alright, Town Crier! Not another word, or I'll take you back to the Dominion right now, and you can help clean up the parking lot!"

Not hearing another response from Jamie, Lee sighed heavily, and asked Dotty, "So, how did you and Amanda fare today?"

Dotty got bicarbonate down from the cabinet near the sink, and getting a glass, filled it halfway with water, and stated as she dropped the tablet into the glass, "Oh my gosh! Well, it-it was supposed to be fine...but things took a little longer than expected because Mr. Emelio got distracted, and-"

Lee remarked carefully looking at Dotty, "Well, you certainly look fine, so what did Amanda have done?"

Dotty put up a hand to halt Lee's questioning, and stating to Phillip as she got to the couch, handing him the glass of bicarbonate, "Alright, Sweetheart...Sit up and drink this and you'll be fine in a while, okay?"

Phillip groaned as he sat up, "Do I have to?"

Dotty answered, "Yes, Darling. You see, the reason you got sick is because you didn't listen to your body tell you that you'd had enough junk food today...Now, when you finish that, go on upstairs and lie down and rest until you feel better, okay?"

Phillip nodded weakly, and half smiled at her, answering, "Thanks, Grandma..."

Dotty kissed his forehead stating, "You're welcome, Honey..."

When he finished drinking the bicarbonate, he handed the glass back to Dotty, and getting up slowly, stated to Lee on his way upstairs, "Thanks for today, Lee...Even if I ruined it..."

Lee waved it away, saying lightly, "Ah, your eyes were just bigger than your stomach, I think. Go relax, okay, Pal? I'll check in on you in a while, alright?"

As Phillip went upstairs, Jamie came out of the laundry room, his pants pockets full of rags struggling with the full bucket full of detergent and water, commenting, "Ready, Lee..."

Lee chuckled, exchanging a look with Dotty as he saw Jamie struggling with the bucket, and said, "Hey, Ace? What I actually meant was that we would use the hose outside and use the sprayer as well, okay?"

Jamie, rolling his eyes, bemoaned, "Aw, geez! Why didn't you tell me that before I filled the damn thing up-"

Dotty immediately admonished him answering, "James Joseph! Watch that mouth, Young Man! And when did you start speaking that way?"

Jamie glanced at Lee, and then Lee, pointing to himself, embarrassed, commented quietly to Dotty, "I-I'm afraid that was from me in traffic...Sorry."

Then looking at Jamie, he gestured towards the front door, stating, "You go ahead, Pal. I'll be right out, okay?"

Then, as Jamie went out the front door, closing it, Lee saw Dotty's frustrated expression, and put up a hand to her, answering, "I know! I shouldn't talk that way in the car, but there was this guy on the I-95 that really-"

Dotty shook her head responding quickly, "I don't care! Lee, you have to use your better judgement when being around my grandsons! They're very impressionable, you know?"

Lee sighed, and nodding, remarked, "Okay, I'm sorry. Really. Now, as for your daughter, what went on today?"

Dotty waved towards the stairs, commenting, "Go find out for yourself...I told her that it would wash out, and we can get her hair back to it's natural-"

Lee gasped, stating, "Oh, my God-"

Hearing that, Lee tore up the stairs, two at a time, and knocking on Amanda's bedroom door, remarked, "Amanda? Let me in...I want to talk about whatever today was about, and I swear, I won't yell or anything, okay? I-I mean, it's your hair, Honey, so whatever happened or didn't happen the way you wanted, it-it doesn't-"

But when Amanda opened the door, Lee saw the hair, and her tear stained face, and gulped, incredulously answering , "Ohh...My God! What...What did you do?"
