"Where are you going with that block baby girl?"

Ellie giggled as Jamie chased her around the living room. Her little legs propelling her around the chair and towards the coffee table. Eddie was in the kitchen getting a glass of water and got a frightened look on her face as Ellie got close to the edge of the coffee table. Jamie was quick to put his hand out to catch her when she tripped on her foot. Ellie scrunched up her face and began to cry. Jamie scooped her up in his arms and rocked her while rubbing her tiny back.

"It's ok baby girl. Daddy's got you. You're ok. Your ok."

Ellie had quieted somewhat, whimpers escaping her mouth. Little hands patting either side of Jamie's cheeks.

"Dada Dada…"

Jamie kept rubbing her back and placing kisses to her head.

"Daddy's got you. Let's go get mommy."

Eddie placed her glass on the right side of the sink and then sunk down in a chair at the kitchen table. Ellie reached out for Eddie.

"Mama."

Jamie placed Ellie in Eddie's lap. Ellie patted a tiny left hand against Eddie's baby belly. Eddie gave a soft laugh.

"That's your baby sister in there sweet girl. You'll get to see her soon. Just not yet."

Jamie watched as Ellie patted Eddie's belly with her soft plastic block.

"Ooh, careful baby girl. We don't want to give mama owies."

Ellie giggled and tried lying against Eddie's belly. Eddie smiled down at Ellie and shook her head.

"You hamming it up for daddy sweet girl?"

Ellie let out a loud full-fledged belly laugh as she looked at Jamie. Jamie began playing peek-a-boo with Ellie and she kept laughing. Eddie pulled her phone out and started filming.

"Ellie, do you think daddy's funny?"

Jamie kept playing peek-a-boo and Eddie tried to stifle a giggle. It was only a few minutes and then Ellie started to get sleepy. She yawned and rubbed her left eye with her fist.

"Mama."

Eddie started to get up with Ellie, but Jamie took her instead.

"Babe, let me take her and put her down. She's getting heavier and right now you're not supposed to be lifting heavy things. When I put her down, I want to show you what I have planned for the nursery. But there are rules. No peeking."

Eddie wrinkled her nose.

"Jamie? What do you mean no peeking?"

Jamie threw her a sideways glance as he walked away with Ellie.

"You'll see babe. I'll just be a minute. Close your eyes."

Eddie rolled her eyes and then took a breath, closing her eyes. Jamie had been gone less than a minute and she found his soft, larger hands in her small ones. He was leading her forward.

"One more step babe. Almost there. Ok, you can open your eyes now."

When Eddie opened up her eyes, she couldn't believe what she was seeing. Jamie had picked three different colors for the nursery. A light sunshine yellow with a giraffe border, a Sea foam green with a dolphin border, and a soft powder pink with elephants. Tears came to her eyes and she quickly swiped them away.

"It's beautiful Jamie…"

The smile disappeared from Jamie's face and he squeezed her hands.

"Why do I feel a 'it's beautiful Jamie but… coming on?"

Eddie shook her head no and pulled herself into his arms and spun herself around so that he was behind her with his arms around her belly. He rubbed it lovingly in slow, lazy circles with his right hand.

"There are no buts Jamie. It's beautiful. I really like the light sunshine yellow with the baby giraffes. Let's go with that."

Jamie continued rubbing Eddie's belly and put his chin on her left shoulder, placing soft kisses to her neck. In between kisses, he aired his thoughts.

"How did I get so lucky to be married to the most beautiful woman in the city? We have a beautiful little girl we saved from one of the most gruesome crime scenes the two of us have come across, and we have another beautiful little girl on the way who is going to look just like me but have her mother's attitude."

Eddie smiled as she felt a tiny foot kick against her belly. She gave a small laugh.

"There she goes again."

Tilting her head upwards, Eddie saw the look in Jamie's eyes. He had tears in them.

"She's kicking. That's a lot of work you're doing babe. Growing a baby inside you. How long have you been feeling her kick?"

Eddie gave a slight shrug.

"A baby you put in me. For a while now. I know if I'd told you I'd felt her kick the first time, you'd be disappointed because I was the only one to feel it."

Jamie let his mind wander and spoke into her hair.

"Sometimes I wish I could feel what you do…"

Eddie let out a sarcastic laugh.

"You mean you'd want to carry a baby, experience the joint pain, have to pee five million times a day, constantly feel like your ankles are going to burst, gain an extra 25-35 pounds, having to constantly find a more comfortable position to sleep in, back aches, leg aches. All of it?"

Jamie only gave a small smile.

"If only there was such a thing as you carry the baby part way, and then I carry the baby the last half, it would help me understand a little better what you're going through."

Eddie gave a smirk and leaned into Jamie more.

"Well, I'd pay $1000 to see you go through labor and give birth. That would be something."

Jamie smirked and shook his head.

"Somehow babe, I don't think I'd last a couple of minutes in labor. I'd be asking for an epidural so fast…"

Eddie nodded and kept leaning into Jamie's arms.

"Well, I've changed my mind. I'm not taking the drug-free approach. I want all the drugs they can give me. At least enough to dull the pain somewhat."

Jamie kissed the side of her neck again and rocked her slightly.

"Do you know how beautiful you look babe? You're glowing. You've been glowing since we found out we were pregnant."

Looking up into Jamie's eyes and gave a wide smile.

"Is that an invitation Jamie? I'm game if you are…"

Eddie had spun herself around and was starting to unbutton his shirt, trailing kisses down his chest when he stopped her for a minute, clearing his throat.

"Hold that thought babe. Let me just put Ellie in the other crib in here."

Eddie wiggled her eyebrows and walked towards their room.

"Well, while you put Ellie in her brand-new crib, I'll go look for something in the back of my drawer to knock your socks off."

Jamie sprinted towards the bedroom and took Ellie in his arms. Eddie had somehow made into the room mere seconds after Jamie. He was headed towards the door and gave a quick peck to her cheek.

"Back in a flash beautiful."

Eddie only laughed and swung the door shut a little, beginning her hunt in her drawer for said garment.
