The family were exiting the annual fair that came to Nowhere, since the fair was in town, the family all decided to go there for the day.
"My, isn't it a marvelous fair this year?" Muriel asked, as she and her family left the fair, ""The hay ride was just grand, grand."
"Argh! Another fifty cents down the drain,"Eustace complained, as he finished the food he was eating before tossing the plate on the floor.
"Most locations need more trash cans," Courage said, as he thrown away Eustace's plate in the trash can.
"Rou said it Rourage. Rotta keep the earth clean," Scooby agreed.
Scooby and Courage hurried up to the truck, Courage jumped into the front while the Scooby went in the back, with Shaggy. Soon, the family were on the road heading back.
"I just love county fairs," Muriel exclaimed, happily.
"Blah, blah, blah," Eustace complained.
"Your not the only one who likes county fairs, Aunt Muriel. The best part is that Scoob and I won the pie-eating contest this year," Shaggy pointed out.
"Rnd it's a good thing it's a tag team contest," Scooby added, as he and Shaggy give each other hi-fives.
"You two know how to eat one hundred pies," Courage complimented, as he ate his cotton candy.
"Like, all it takes is practice and a good strategy," Shaggy said.
"Rou should enter sometime Courage," Scooby suggested.
"Maybe next time," Courage muttered, he wasn't sure he could eat a hundred pies without getting a stomachache.
Courage suddenly notice a crow flying by the truck, "Huh?" he asked.
Courage screamed in terror, noticing the crows coming towards the truck that easily numbered in the hundreds. There so many that it looked like a black blanket in the sky. Scooby give out a scream of surprise.
"Zoinks!" Shaggy exclaimed, with surprise and fear.
"Oh, I guess rain's a-coming. I better close the window," Muriel said as she began to roll up her window, but she then screamed when a crow got caught in the window as Muriel rolled the glass up.
Courage screamed as well before jumping onto Eusatce head blinding him.
"HEY! WATCH WHAT YOU"RE DOING!" Eustace shouted, as he tried to get Courage off his head.
"Crow in the car! Crow in the car!" Courage screech, with fear.
"Hang on Scoob!" Shaggy shouted, as he and Scooby struggled to remain on the truck and not get flung off.
The family all screamed when the truck suddenly veered off the road and into the corn field with corn flying all over the place as we ran over the crops, after a few seconds, the truck stopped not from Eustace hitting the brakes, but by going into a small dich.
"WHAT DO YOU!" Eustace shouted, as he took Courage off his head.
"Crow in the car! Crow in the car!" Courage tried to explain himself.
Eustace ignored him and put him in the glove compartment, the grumpy old farmer then turned to Shaggy and Scooby, who were both staring at him, "What are you two idiots looking at?"
"Nothing!/Rothing!" Shaggy and Scooby quickly said, and try to act casual.
Nothing but your dark soul. Shaggy thought with a shudder.
Rith all the happy plums and fabric softener nothing can ever change Rustace. Scooby thought.
"Must be stuck in a ditch," Eustace answered irritated.
"Now Eustace. Getting all unhinged isn't going to help." Muriel reminded him, "Like my Aunt Gertrude always said-" she was cut off, as she started screaming.
"Now that's what I call wisdom," Shaggy said, not getting what his aunt was referring to.
"Raggy look!" Scooby pointed with his paw in fear.
Turning around, Shaggy saw a giant black creature groaning as it came to the family.
"Uncle Eustace, do something!" Shaggy panicked.
"HEY, YOU!" Eustace shouted before blaring the horn of the truck.
The result was the creature flying into the air a bit and revealing that the creature was nothing more than a scarecrow being carried by the crows that got scared off by the trucks horn, the scarecrow then fell on top of the hood of the truck. Eustace Muriel, Shaggy and Scooby screamed at it in surprise.
Courage at that point got out of the glove compartment, "Hey guys what I miss?"
"That!/Rhat!" Scooby and Shaggy pointed at the scarecrow in fear.
Courage screamed when he saw the scarecrow before going back in the glove compartment and putting up a do not disturb sign on the handle, "Let me know when it's over."
"Well, would you look at that, It's nothing but an old scarecrow. Poor thing," Muriel said, as she exited the truck, to look over the scarecrow.
"Eh, forget that worthless pile of straw,"Eustace said irritated.
"Like no offense Aunt Muriel, but that scarecrow gives us the heebie-jeebies!" Shaggy trembled.
"Reah, heebie-jeebies!" Scooby agreed, with a shudder.
"Now, boys, really. All it needs is a few buttons here and there, a patch or two, and it'll be good as new," Muriel answered.
"Like, I hope he isn't as scary as Cornfield Clem," Shaggy stated, nervously.
At this time Courage opened the storage compartment he was hiding in, "Cornfield Clem?"
"Rt's a long story," Scooby explained.
The next morning, the family were in the kitchen of the farmhouse, the scarecrow was on the table apart. Getting here, Muriel decided to immediately fix up the scarecrow after cleaning it, the family were even dressed as doctors.
"Hmm, the wee scissors," Muriel instructed.
"Scissors," Courage said, as he handed her the scissors. He then saw a rat jump out of a small hay pile that was on the table. Having a fear of rodents, Courage moaned before fainting.
"I got it," Shaggy volunteered, as he picked up the rat, and dragged it outside, as he opened the door. "Like sorry man, Uncle Eustace isn't a fan of having rats in the house," he spoke to the rat, he then closed the back door.
Muriel meanwhile, put some of Eustace clothes on the scarecrow, and for the finishing touch, she put a hat on it. "There you go, good as new."
Muriel stepped back and lowered her mask, but she then gasped when the scarecrow suddenly got up by itself, "Oh, my!"
Scooby give out a scream of shock.
"Zoinks!" Shaggy exclaimed, as Scooby jumped into his owner's arms.
The family saw the scarecrow drop to the ground, and heard muffled mumbling coming from it.
"MURIEL! What's all this junk doing on the floor!" Eustace shouted, as he kicked the basket that was holding the cloths we used to sew back the scarecrow.
"OH!" Muriel gasped, annoyed and mad at Eustace.
"Like, what's your problem man?" Shaggy glared his uncle.
"My problem is that there is junk all over the floor, I like me floors when there is nothing in the way. Now get out of my way Shaggy-haired-fella so I can get some food," Eustace complained, as he head towards the fridge and push his nephew out of the way.
Shaggy scoffed, as he rolled his eyes. The scarecrow seem to get angry, it got up and went up to Eustace who was looking in the fridge. The scarecrow then proceeded to try and scare Eustace with some muffled moans.
Courage slowly woke up and his gaze just met of a live scarecrow walking, like it was alive. Courage whimpered in terror, before fainting again.
The scarecrow who kept on doing the muffled moans in an attempt to scare Eustace, yet he did not even hear or acknowledge him. That is, until the scarecrow got close to him.
"EH? Get away from me," Eustace said, as he pushed the scarecrow away, he then left the room.
"Like, I am terribly sorry about my uncle, he can be a total grouchy pants," Shaggy said, to the scarecrow.
"Rery grouchy," Scooby added.
The hungry duo then picked up Courage and left the living room.
In the living Shaggy and Scooby sat Courage on the couch, after a few minutes the cowardly pink beagle finally regain consciousness.
"Rourage are you okay?" Scooby asked.
"Huh?" Courage asked, as he sat up, while rubbing his head from dizziness, "Yeah, I'm fine."
"Like, you had us worried sick," Shaggy said.
"You guys aren't gonna believe this, I dreamed that I saw a scarecrow come to life," Courage explained.
Scooby give a look too Courage, not sure how to explain this to him, "Ruh, Rourageā¦Rhat wasn't a dream."
Just as Scooby said that, the scarecrow walked in, "Hello."
Courage was a little freaked out, when he saw the Scarecrow, but thankfully he didn't faint again, "H-Hello."
"Like, your not gonna eat us are you?" Shaggy shivered, he still have a bit of nightmares that he and his aunt got swallowed up by Tulip's pet giant worm and almost got digested a week ago.
"No, that would be heartless," the scarecrow denied.
Courage sighed with relief, he at least didn't have anything to worry about the scarecrow hurting Muriel, Shaggy and Scooby. "That's good."
"I hope you don't mind if I stay here, until my scaring comes back," the scarecrow said.
"Well, there is a lot of scary stuff that happens in Nowhere," Courage warned.
"Sometimes, creepy stuff happens outside of Nowhere," Shaggy pointed out.
"Reah, creepy," Scooby added.
"Then this will get me my scaring back," the scarecrow said.
"Just try not to scare us okay?" Courage suggested, he and best friends are really easy to scare.
"Okay," the Scarecrow nodded, obliged to Courage's request.
Scooby just then heard his stomach growl, "Rm hungry."
"Let's make some lunch," Shaggy decided, as he and Scooby left the living room to make lunch.
Courage glanced over his shoulder, and asked the Scarecrow, "You hungry?" Courage wasn't sure if live scarecrows eat, but it he figured it won't hurt to ask.
"I'm good, thank you," the scarecrow replied.
"How about some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches little pink dude? It's vinegar free," Shaggy offered.
Courage grinned in excitement, that was his favorite sandwich to eat, "Oh boy, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! Especially the ones without vinegar." He said with joy, as he ran to the kitchen.
For lunch, Shaggy and Scooby made themselves lots of different kinds of sandwiches, while Courage just had a simple regular peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Shaggy and Scooby giggled at Courage, as he had peanut butter and jelly on his face.
"What?" Courage asked.
"Like little pink dude, for a best friend who doesn't eat much like the rest of us, you sure are a messy eater," Shaggy laughed.
Courage's face turn a little red, "Shaggy," he giggle a little.
"Rhat? RIt's true Rourage," Scooby pointed out, in a snicker.
"Boys!" Muriel called from outside.
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage all went to the window.
'Yes.' Courage asked.
"Would you mind pouring us all a wee dram of lemonade?" Muriel asked.
"Like, totally Aunt Muriel, be right back," Shaggy responded.
Shaggy went to the refrigerator and grabbed a container of lemonade, while Scooby went to the cupboards to get five glasses. After Shaggy poured lemonade for all five of the glasses, Courage put the glasses on the tray and all went to the backdoor.
"Rey! Re got lema-" Scooby stopped, when he saw a snake.
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage all screamed in shock and fear, this cause the snake to scream as well, before biting its tail and then, like a tire, it rode away scared.
"Thank you, boys," Muriel said, patting Courage on the head.
"I've seen many snakes before, but I've never seen a cowardly snake," Shaggy giggled.
"Re either," Scooby laughed.
"At least we're not the only cowards around here now," Courage snickered a little at Shaggy's joke.
But then, the cowardly trio heard the scarecrow start sobbing behind them.
"Now, now, I don't want you worrying about frightening things on my account," Muriel told him.
"Oh, if I can't scare things away to protect you, what good am I?" the scarecrow asked sadly.
"Don't you worry about protecting me, nothing bad ever happens around here," Muriel told him.
"That's not what your nephew said," the scarecrow pointed out, of what he heard from Shaggy earlier.
As if to answer, a giant spaceship with many cannons suddenly landed next to everyone.
"Oh no not again!" Courage wailed, as he dropped the tray of lemonade.
"Oh, my," Muriel gasped.
The scarecrow moaned as he went up to the alien and tried to scare it away, but the alien simply looked confused before using a tentacle to slap him away. The alien then walked up to the family and aimed a gun at them.
"Oh, my," Muriel gasped.
Courage screamed, this time with his heart coming out of his, still attached to his insides and beating as well. The alien screeched before running back to the ship and leaving.
"Now that's what I call pure of heart. Get it, pure of heart?" Shaggy joked.
"Shaggy!/Raggy!" Scooby and Courage rebuked annoyed, as Scooby helped Courage putting his heart back on his body and not find Shaggy's pun funny.
"What good am I?" the scarecrow asked sadly.
A bunny then went up to him, the scarecrow tried to scare it but the bunny just took a straw from his knee before hopping away. "Oh."
"There, there, you're just done in. I'm sure you'll be right as rain in the morning," Muriel told him.
It was early in the morning and the family were in the kitchen. Muriel and Shaggy were making some bacon and eggs with toast for breakfast, Courage was next to them eating some dog food Muriel made with vinegar.
"Where's my jelly? Can't eat my toast without my jelly," Eustace complained as he read the paper.
"Oh, we're all out," Muriel said, as she took out the jar, they use to store the jelly. "I'll just run down to the basement for another jar."
Shaggy finished setting the plates up and serving the food, but as he finished, a knock was heard on the door.
"See who it is dog," Eustace demanded to Courage.
"Coming," Courage said, as he stopped eating and went to the door, only to be launched onto the floor.
"Courage!" Shaggy exclaimed in concerned as he picked up the pink beagle.
"I'm okay," Courage reassured his best friend.
Looking up, Shaggy, Scooby and Courage saw a strange sight that was unexpected, what they saw was a buff and fierce looking scarecrow.
Courage gasped before fainting completely in Shaggy's arms. The scarecrow walk over to Eustace, and took the paper from him.
"HEY! That was the coupons,"Eustace shouted, only to scream a second later when the scarecrow picked him up. "Let go off me. Let go-"
The scarecrow just beats up the old farmer and send him through the roof and land outside the house.
"Rhat happened to the scarecrow?" Scooby asked, nervously.
"I don't wanna know," Courage trembled in Shaggy's arms.
"Now Eustace, I always tell you to clean your mess when you're through eating,"Muriel scolded, as she walked up to the table holding a fresh jar of jelly.
"Like Aunt Muriel, that's not Uncle Eustace," Shaggy's voice shaken, as he put Courage down.
"Rt's the scarecrow," Scooby said, with fear.
"The scarecrow turned himself into a scary baddie," Courage warned, as he transformed into a mini version of the now buff scarecrow.
But then the scarecrow grabbed Courage by the neck, Shaggy by the collar of his shirt and Scooby by the collar. The three best friends all scream, as the scarecrow threw them through roof and landed outside the house, Eustace grunted as the three fell on him.
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage then ran back to the house, only to stop at the door when they saw a sign saying to keep out. The trio were about to ignore it and had inside but stopped when the windows and door were suddenly covered with metals sheets, quickly going to the side, the three saw that this happened to every window and door of the house.
"Zoinks, this is bad, really bad!" Shaggy panicked.
"Rho knows what will happen to Ruriel," Scooby said, with worry.
"Protecting Muriel from danger is one thing, but a bad guy protecting Muriel from danger is going too far," Courage stated.
"Your right, we gotta save Aunt Muriel," Shaggy said.
"We gotta save her before something bad happens or my name isn't Dorothy Gale, and it's not," Courage declared.
"Rhere else can we enter?" Scooby asked.
Shaggy thought for a moment and had an idea, "Like, the basement, come on."
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage made their way over, opened the doors and saw only darkness, only to be surprised a second later when a dragon emerged and spew fire at Courage, as Scooby and Shaggy manage to get away.
"Rourage, are you alright?" Scooby asked, with concern.
Courage only reply with a weak laugh.
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage moved to the window, laying down on the ground the trio cleaned the widow a bit to see into the basement.
"Muriel!/Aunt Muriel!/Ruriel!" Shaggy, Scooby and Courage shouted, when they saw her crying.
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage then heard somebody stomping on something, looking towards the noise, they saw Eustace banging his foot against the doors.
"I want jelly!" Eustace shouted, as he continued to stomp on the doors.
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage then walked over to Eustace, who turned to look at the three.
"Stupid dogs! Fetch me jelly!" Eustace demanded, as he grabbed Scooby and Courage and threw them into the dragon's throat.
"Scooby! Courage!" Shaggy shouted, as he made his way down the steps into the basement, and saw Scooby and Courage coming out from the machine dragon's tale. "Are you dudes okay?"
"No/Ro," Scooby and Courage reply dizzily, as they're both covered in soot.
"Like, how can Uncle Eustace think about jelly at a time like this?" Shaggy asked, flabbergasted that his uncle could think of food at the worse of times.
"Ro clue," Scooby shrugged.
Looking around, Shaggy, Scooby and Courage saw Muriel walking towards them.
"Oh boys, Thank heavens it's you!" Muriel said, happily.
"Are you alright Muriel?" Courage asked.
"I'm alright Courage," Muriel replied, as she hugged her dog.
"Rome on, we gotta get you to safety," Scooby reminded his family.
Courage picked up Muriel, Shaggy and Scooby before hopping onto the dragon.
"Get ready for blast-off," Courage warned before pulling the lever next to him which activated the dragon, it took the family out of the basement and burnt Eustace.
"What about my jelly?" Eustace weakly asked.
"Who cares about the jelly? We're going somewhere safe whether you like it or not," Courage replied with annoyance, as he grabbed Eustace.
Courage, while carrying his family headed over there and got in, turning it on, Courage drove away from the house as fast as he could. And very soon, the truck back in the cornfields from two days ago, but Courage did not stop. After a few more minutes, Shaggy heard a loud roar of an engine behind him, he looked out of his window, and his blood turned to ice.
"Uh guys?" Shaggy whimpered, as he keep looking out the window in fear.
Looking back, Scooby and Courage saw the scarecrow chasing after the truck, with a bay baler.
Courage screamed with horror, "Oh no! He's gaining on us!"
"Rtep on it Rourage!" Scooby yelled, with terror.
Courage turned the truck to the cornfield.
"MURIEL! PROTECT MURIEL!" The family heard the scarecrow shout.
Shaggy, Scooby, Muriel and Eustace covered their faces, to avoid getting hit by the corn that was flying, while Courage continued to drive. But as soon as Courage did sped up, the truck hit a ditch. The same ditch that the truck got stuck two days ago.
"I don't have time for this," Courage cried, as he grabbed Muriel and left the truck, with Shaggy and Scooby following him.
The cowardly trio ran as fast as they could yet, the hay baler was quickly catching up with them, suddenly Courage trip over another ditch a few seconds later, dropping Muriel to the other side.
"Now what are we gonna do?" Shaggy whined with fright, as the hay baler was getting closer to him and his best friends, soon they would all be ripped to pieces.
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage huddled together, fearing that the scarecrow would run over them any second but to their surprise, he turned away from the frightened trio completely.
"Rhat's one hungry crow," Scooby commented.
"Crows! Scooby your a genius," Courage shouted, the Great Dane had just give him an idea.
"RI am?" Scooby asked, not getting what Courage meant, but a few second correcting himself. "RI mean of course I am."
"How are you gonna get the crows over to the scarecrow little dog dude?" Shaggy asked.
"Watch and learn," Courage responded, before calling the crows from nearby, "CAW! CAW! CAW!"
"OH NO! NOT THE CROWS!" the scarecrow shouted in fear, as the crows started to attack him, taking him with them towards the truck.
"WHAT!?" Eustace shouted, before screaming, as the hay baler started to chase him.
"OH, MY!" Muriel gasped at seeing the crows attack the scarecrow, "Poor thing. Not much of a scarecrow is he?"
"I'm on it," Courage volunteered, as he went to the truck and honk the horn which caused all the crows to fly away, leaving behind a mangled scarecrow.
"My father was a scary scarecrow, and his father, and his Aunt Hilda," the scarecrow told Shaggy and Scooby as Muriel kneeled down and placed his head on her lap. "Oh, but me, I'm a worthless bale of... nothing."
"Just because you come from a scary family, doesn't mean you have to be scary too," Muriel told him.
"Aunt Muriel is right scaredude everyone's best at something," Shaggy pointed out, in comfort.
"Rut no one's best at everything," Scooby added.
"But what else is there for the likes of me?" the scarecrow asked.
"Maybe you got other talents," Muriel answered.
Courage then had an idea, "I know," he he pulled his owner's dress.
The family were on the hay ride at the county fair, apparently, the idea Courage had was to make the scarecrow not only the driver for the hay ride but also a part of a few other attractions.
"Don't you just love a hayride, boys?" Muriel asked.
"Mmm-hmm," Courage nodded, as he ate his cotton candy.
"RI do," Scooby agreed, eating some cotton candy.
"Like, who doesn't?" Shaggy asked, as he also ate cotton candy.
The scarecrow laughed, before focusing back on driving.
"GET OFF! GET OFF! HEY! HEY!" Eustace shouted, trapped in a hay bale.
"Enjoying the ride Uncle Eustace?" Shaggy teased.
Eustace just grumbled in annoyance.
"Looks like he's gonna be a bit stuck for a while," Courage snickered.
"Rou said it Rourage," Scooby giggled, "Scooby-Dooby-Doo!"
