August 31, 1928
Several generals of the imperial army were sitting at a table. Being that it was night and this meeting was private no one else knew that this meeting was happening.
"The rumors are true, we will join the Republic."
All these generals had one thing in common. They did not want to join the Republic. They were of the opinion that to join the Republic was to become a colony and therefore to join the Republic was treason to the Empire.
"We have to make the coup d'etat and prevent this situation. Once we join the Republic they will never let us go. We will be a colony forever."
The generals nodded, there were more than 10 present and all were smoking or drinking alcohol. All of them were respected war veterans and very high ranking officials.
"A coup d'etat seems the only solution. They are leading the country to destruction. When I supported Zettour in his military career I never thought he would make this stupid decision" Said the oldest of all present, a general from the eastern front who fought against the Russy Federation.
"How would we do it? The only division that is allowed to enter Berun is the one under Brigadier General Tanya von Degurechaff. Being that Tanya von Degurechaff is part of the traitor regime it would mean that to enter Berun would be to engage in combat."
The generals thought that it was true that a coup d'état needed to avoid a civil war. Even more so since outside agents like the Galactic Republic and the Trade Federation would be more than happy to have a weakened Empire.
"If we have enough loyal mages we can take Berun. Not even 203 is up against ten to one" Said a von who was quite young and had a brilliant military career behind him.
"Are you sure about that?" said a female voice. The generals drew their pistols and looked behind them at the 203rd who was led by Viktoriya Serebriakova.
"For the crime of treason to the Empire your sentence is capital punishment."
The generals started firing but the shields stopped all the shots that were fired by the generals.
"Ready" Viktoriya states and the 203rd bring their weapons into position.
"Aim" VIkoriya says, almost ironically mimicking an execution as she brings her arm up.
"Fire" She said lowering her arm, the 203 then fired at the generals present at this meeting, killing most of them.
"A job well done. Degurechaff would be pleased" Viktoriya said, pulling a pistol from her holster and starts walking around the room shooting all the corpses in the head to ensure their death. None were to survive.
"Get everything ready to burn this house down. The official cause of death is fire, one unfortunate …"
One of the generals moves a little, showing that he was still alive. Viktoriya aims at his head, shoots and kills him on the spot.
"Accident" She said, finishing the sentence.

The intelligence chief looked in front of him at the several soldiers who had entered his room with displeasure because he knew what it was like. Zettour had begun a political purge.
"What am I accused of?"
Commander Ugar came out among the soldiers, reading a paper he was carrying.
How many people I have eliminated for the good of the Empire in this very way, thought Canaris to himself as he watched Ugar cough and begin to read.
"For conspiracy against the government and support of a rebellion you are sentenced to death... Without trial."
All those accusations were false, but nevertheless his open opposition against the Zettour regime had cost him some political supporters and finally... this situation.
"You know all those accusations are false, are you still going to execute me?" Canaris asked, with a smile on his mouth. Knowing that Commander Ugar knew that this was false.
"Traitors have no right to speak. Fire!"
The soldiers fired at Canaris, killing him instantly.

Erich von Lehrgen looked at the blindfolded politicians. They were all in a secret military base. Zettour's plan was simple. By eliminating all known dissidents the Empire would be able to move forward. Although, in Lehrgen's personal opinion, what Zettour wanted to avoid was Caesar's fate. He did respect it in part. In the end all those executed were traitors to the Empire. All these politicians had incited the war that almost destroyed the Empire.
"This is how democracy dies," said his assistant, a young liberal who believed in democracy.
"Democracy brought us death and destruction because of its irrationalism. Remember Tanya von Degurechaff?"
The assistant nodded slowly as he glanced sideways at the soldiers lining up, rifle in hand.
"She may be a monster, but the problem is that she's right. It's amazing, when the person you think is the worst person you know in the world and she ends up being right."
The attendant was horrified at how casually he insulted the Empire's heroine. He didn't understand what this had to do with execution and democracy.
"What does this have to do with democracy?"
Lehrgen stopped, looking proudly at the soldiers carrying out his orders,
"Weapons up!" The soldiers readied their weapons.
"Aim" The soldiers aimed their weapons.
"Fire" The soldiers fired at the politicians.
Lehrgen nodded and looked again at his assistant
"Degurechaff once said that there is no worse enemy than irrationalism. However, she also said that all humans are irrational. Some less so, some more so. So the goal of every human is to be as rational as possible. A logical action is to eliminate everything irrational, that includes everyone who can have or does have power and is irrational need to be… eliminated."
The assistant seemed terrified by what Lehrgen had said.
"I prefer irrational democracy to rational efficiency."
Lehrgen looked at him with a frozen stare. The assistant swallowed saliva and looked for a few seconds into Lehrgen's eyes.
"I like you, I hope you don't end up on an execution list for your... irrational... ideals."

On both sides of a table the Kaiser and Zettour looked at each other while playing a game of chess.
"Your turn" the Kaiser says after moving his knight, endangering a rook of Zettour.
Zettour thought for a second and put the queen on a square so that if the Kaiser moved the knight it would be checkmate.
"How's the purge going?" the Kaiser asked casually, moving a bishop to threaten the queen.
"Since we're not right now being executed it's safe to assume it's been a total success."
Zettour killed the bishop and Kaiser quickly killed the knight, leaving Zettour's king position compromised.
"No matter what I do I have lost" He said, knocking down the King in a show of surrender to the Kaiser and giving him the victory.
"How much did we go?" asked the Kaiser, drinking whiskey.
"I've won 14 times and you've won 19."
The Kaiser nodded, placing the glass of whiskey on the table.
"If the purge was a success, then that means our power is absolute."
Zettour nodded. It was all planned in cooperation with the Kaiser. Once Zettour took enough power the Kaiser simply began to cooperate with him. Until it came to this situation where the two of them plotted the biggest purge known to the empire.
"To an Empire that lasts 1,000 years," said Zettour, raising his glass of wine. The Kaiser clinked his glass of whiskey against the wine glass, making a noise from the clash of glass to glass.
"For an Empire that lasts 100,000 years better" Said the Kaiser, with a Machiavellian smile
