Meanwhile, Miles was still running as fast as he could and quickly calculated where Sonic should land and was happy he was getting closer to the ground. Then before he could even start thinking of a plan to help he found himself at the edge of the same lake Sonic was at before. Miles looked up and was horrified to see Sonic, who was flailing his arms and legs, falling towards the lake. Miles began to panic.

"Oh no! What do I do? Should I do that?" He looked at Sonic and shook his head. "No. I can't! I…" Before he could think anymore he heard a splash. "Sonic!" Miles said. He wasted no more time and dove in. He quickly found Sonic but he quickly noticed that no matter what Sonic did he continued to sink. Miles quickly swam over and grabbed his hand. As he was pulling Sonic to the surface he noticed something shining. He wanted to see what it was but he knew the first thing he had to do was get Sonic to safety.

The two breached the surface and Sonic was coughing out water. "Thanks…" Sonic coughed. "...Miles." he then continued to cough.

"You're welcome," Miles said, proud of himself.

Miles then began to lead Sonic back to shore and while he did he felt his bandages coming undone again but at this point, he didn't care. He continued to focus on getting Sonic out of the water.

Once on the shore Sonic and Miles were able to catch their breath for a moment before Eggman's robot made its appearance again.

"Really!?" Sonic said in extreme annoyance.

Eggman then appeared and said, "I see you survived, I will give you this much you are a stubborn little rodent."

"You know it," Sonic said laughing sarcastically.

"Oh look you even have a…" Eggman got a closer look at Miles. "What on earth are you? Two tails? Are you some kind of mutant?" Eggman began to laugh at him. Miles got embarrassed and tried to hide his tails. "Or are you just a freak of nature?" Eggman was having a lot of fun mocking Miles but Sonic was not having it.

"You be quiet! I will not let you insult my friend."

"Friend? Ha. Only you could befriend a thing like that." Eggman mocked. Miles was hurt by his words but was happy that Sonic was standing up for him. "Well, that is enough fun. Now I must find the next emerald."

"Good luck Egghead. We already looked and couldn't find it. I doubt you could."

"I beg to differ. You see, unlike you, I have a scanner that can read the energy waves the emeralds produced."

"Really? Well, my buddy here also has one…" Sonic gloated a bit about Miles. Miles then got silent.

"OH really. Then why haven't you found it yet?" Eggman asked sarcastically.

Sonic did not want to lose this argument. "We were about to until you showed up."

"Keep telling yourself that. Well, no more delays." Eggman got out his remote and had his robot start attacking Sonic again while Miles ran away.

Sonic continued to fight while Eggman focused on his scanner. Though he was on the right track he was still not on top of the emerald. Then he realized that the emerald was in the lake.

Meanwhile, Miles ran back to where he dove in to save Sonic. He had to drop his scanner in order to save him. The moment he looked at it he also saw that the emerald was in the lake. He then remembered the shiny thing he saw and figured that might be it. He dove in and hoped he was not too late.

Back to Sonic, he was still battling the robot. Eggman knew the emerald was in the lake but had no real way to quickly find it. He was pondering what to do until he noticed that Sonic gave a very damaging hit to his robot.

"OH NO!" Eggman said as the robot fell.

"Nice try egghead," Sonic said in a snarky tone. "Now return the emerald you took."

Eggman thought about it and in a playful tone, he said, "I can't. I don't have it."

Sonic was confused. He then noticed that the robot was back on its feet and instantly started attacking Sonic again. This time the robot was faster. Much faster.

"What did you do?" Sonic said while doing his best to dodge the constant quick attacks the robot made.

"Just gave him a little power boost," Eggman said with a huge grin on his face.

Sonic instantly knew what he meant. He put the emerald in the robot! Within a few minutes, the whole surrounding area was severely damaged from all the attacks. Trees were on the ground. Dust was in the air and there were holes everywhere. Not only that but now Sonic was losing stamina.

"What can I do?" Sonic asked himself.

Then out of nowhere, Sonic heard a familiar voice. He looked towards the lake and at the edge was Miles holding another chaos emerald!

"Sonic! catch!". Miles said as he threw the emerald to Sonic.

Sonic zoomed over and caught it in midair. "Thanks, buddy." He said.

Sonic instantly began to feel the power flowing through him and he knew he had a chance now. Eggman however was not too happy with the development.

"Annoying fox.". He grumbled.
