It has been maybe half a day since the gang took off but to everyone's surprise, they saw land.
"LOOK!" Tails said pointing to the outline of the island. Sonic and Knuckles looked forward and got excited.
"That was fast," Sonic said.
Knuckles instantly got suspicions. "Too fast." He brought out a map and looked at it again. "I was right. There should not be any land here."
"Then what is that?" Sonic asked, trying to get a closer look at the land in front of them.
Tails was a little nervous but he continued to fly forwards. They all were wondering what they were seeing and wanted to check it out. After flying for a few more minutes the land became much clearer.
It was an island with no noticeable greenery and for some reason, the sun bounced off of the ground. Then upon closer inspection, they saw that it was an island entirely made of metal and in the center was a large dome-shaped building. The trio were in awe at the sight but they still didn't know what it was or who made it so they continued to fly forward.
After looking around Sonic noticed something below them. "Hey what is that?" she said pointing under the plane.
Tails and Knuckles looked and saw a large shadow from under the water. It was going extremely fast and in a few minutes had passed the plane.
"Should we continue?" Tails asked nervously.
Without thinking Sonic said, "Yeah."
Tails wasn't so sure but he listened and continued to fly. However soon they would regret it. After just a few more minutes of flying, they saw that something was heading right for them. It was not a small number either. Soon lasers were firing right at them. It took Tails by surprise but he was able to dodge all the shots. And he continued to dodge until Knuckles yelled, "We can't fight like this! We need to get out of here!"
"Hate to agree but I agree. Tails get us out of here!" Sonic said.
"Right." Tails said as he immediately turned the plane around. He had to continue dodging the continuous attacks but somehow they were able to escape. Once they saw that nothing was following them they just had to ask, "What was that?" Knuckles asked.
"Not sure but I don't think we should find out." Tails said, taking a sigh of relief.
"It looked artificial. Could someone have made it?" Sonic wondered before going completely silent.
"Who would make a thing like…" Knuckles began before he noticed the faces Sonic and Tails made. They both instantly had a good idea of who was responsible for that.
"Eggman!" They both said in unison.
"Only Eggman could make something as dangerous as that," Sonic said. "But why is it here?"
"It must be his mobile fortress." Tails said.
"That has to be it," Sonic said.
"So what should we do?" Knuckles asked.
Sonic didn't want to admit it but they couldn't just randomly walk into enemy territory so he said, "We move forward. After the beatdown we gave him, it will take time for him to get back in action. So while he does that we get as many emeralds as we can."
"OK." Tails said in agreement.
"I still want you to drop me off at the next town." Knuckles said.
"I figured." Sonic chuckled.
After that, they continued to fly forward but now paying close attention to their surroundings. They did not want another surprise attack so they were all on edge for quite a while.
Author's note: Alright so we are about 1/3 through the story or maybe more. I am not sure yet but I would like to know how you all are liking the story so far.
