Chapter Two

Garfield's frustration grew with each passing day. It seemed that the initial excitement and thrill of college life were quickly fading away, replaced by the harsh reality of sleep deprivation and mounting academic pressure.

The previous night had been yet another sleepless one for Garfield. Victor's thunderous snores echoed through the room, preventing any chance of a restful slumber. Garfield had tried everything from earplugs to burying his head under the pillow, but the noise was relentless, gnawing away at his sanity.

As the morning alarm blared loudly, Garfield groaned, feeling as though he had just closed his eyes moments ago. He watched through bleary eyes as Victor, seemingly unfazed by the lack of sleep, rose from his bed and reached for the alarm clock. The athlete's disciplined routine carried on, as he proceeded to whip up his pungent protein shake in the noisy blender. The sound grated on Garfield's already frayed nerves, exacerbating his exhaustion.

Once the concoction was ready, Victor wasted no time in launching into an intense two-hour workout session. The rhythmic grunts and thuds reverberated through the room, an unwelcome soundtrack to Garfield's struggle for a few moments of tranquility. He marveled at Victor's seemingly boundless energy and wondered how the football star could maintain such a rigorous schedule without sacrificing sleep or well-being.

Garfield realized college was not the glamorous and carefree experience he had envisioned. While having Victor as a friend provided some relief from bullies and enhanced his social standing, the athlete's tightly regimented life was taking a toll on Garfield's own well-being. The lack of proper sleep began to affect his ability to concentrate and absorb the increasingly complex course material.

With each passing day, the challenges of college life seemed to compound, leaving Garfield feeling overwhelmed and disillusioned. The initial excitement and sense of adventure were gradually replaced by a sense of struggle and frustration. The need for rest and academic success clashed with the demands of socializing and navigating the college party scene.

Garfield couldn't help but question if his expectations had been too high. The reality of college life was proving to be far more demanding and exhausting than he had anticipated. As he gazed at the pile of textbooks and assignments awaiting his attention, he couldn't help but wonder if he would find a way to strike a balance between his academic aspirations and the chaos of campus life.

"Mr. Logan!" The professor yelled, his voice echoing through the lecture hall, startling Garfield awake.

"I'm up!" Garfield said quickly, sitting up at his desk. Disoriented, he quickly looked around, only to sheepishly recoil in his seat at the realization that he had once again falling asleep in class.

"Mr. Logan, this is the third time this week you've fallen asleep in my class." The professor said angerly.

Garfield let out a heavy sigh. "I know and-"

"I don't want to hear any more of your excuses. Get your act together before you completely fail my class." The professor ordered before addressing the rest of the students. "Class dismissed."

The professor's stern words intensified Garfield's feelings of frustration and self-doubt. He had genuinely wanted to succeed in college, to prove himself academically and make his adopted father proud. However, it seemed like he was struggling to keep up with the rigorous demands of the courses.

With a heavy sigh Garfield gathered his belongings slowly, avoiding eye contact with his classmates who were likely judging his lack of focus. He couldn't help but question his abilities and wonder if he was truly cut out for college.

"You're having a bad day." He heard a sweet voice say behind him, breaking through his thoughts and pulling him out of his self-doubt.

Garfield turned around, expecting to see one of his classmates offering sympathy. However, he was taken aback by the sight of a stunning girl standing before him. Her long, red hair cascaded down her shoulders, complementing her captivating green eyes and rosy cheeks. Her warm smile and soft pink lips made his heart skip a beat.

Unprepared for such unexpected beauty, Garfield's hands betrayed him and he fumbled, dropping his books to the ground in a clumsy display. His face turned red as embarrassment washed over him, and he scrambled to pick up his scattered belongings.

A gentle giggle escaped the girl's lips, as if she found his awkwardness charming. "You could use a cup of coffee." She said playfully, bending down to help him retrieve his books.

"More like a pitcher." Garfield responded, his voice tinged with a mix of self-deprecating humor and genuine longing for a momentary escape from his troubles.

She giggled again, filling his ears with the symphony. "How about I buy you one to make up for your bad week?" She suggested, her smile radiating warmth and kindness.

Garfield's mind raced, grappling with the unexpected turn of events. Was she asking him out? Was this a date? The thought both thrilled and bewildered him, leaving him momentarily speechless. He managed to stammer out a reply, his voice laced with astonishment. "Um... sure... That sounds great."

Her genuine smile reassured him, easing his nervousness. Together, they walked towards the exit, Garfield eagerly holding the door open for her. As they stepped outside the building and made their way towards the nearby dining hall, he couldn't help but wonder if going out for coffee with Kori was indeed a date or simply a friendly gesture.

"So, Mr. Logan." She began, playfully mimicking their professor's voice, "You got a first name?"

Garfield chuckled, feeling a spark of connection and ease in Kori's company. "It's, um... Garfield." He replied, his nerves gradually giving way to a sense of curiosity and anticipation.

She giggled, her eyes twinkling with delight as she looked at him. "I'm Kori... Kori Anders." She introduced herself, her name resonating within him like a melody he couldn't quite get out of his head.

Garfield couldn't believe his luck. He found himself in a state of disbelief as he sat across from Kori in the bustling dining hall.

She was an absolute knockout, a stunning redhead who seemed to have stepped out of a magazine cover. In his eyes, she surpassed any ranking scale he knew. On a scale of 1 to 10, she was a solid 25. The fact that she was not only talking to him but also genuinely enjoying his company seemed too good to be true. He couldn't help but wonder if this was all a prank, a cruel joke being played on him.

"So, Garfield? Is this your first year of college?" Kori asked, taking a sip of her fancy frappe.

"Is it that obvious?" He replied, feeling self-conscious about his freshman status. It seemed like everyone, including the frats and now Kori, knew he was a newcomer. Did he have a neon sign flashing "Freshman" above his head?

Kori reassured him with a warm smile, understanding his concerns. "It's okay. Everyone feels a little disoriented and out of sorts in their first year. I certainly did. Give it time, and you'll find your groove."

"Well, I hope I find it before I fail all my classes." Garfield said with a hint of dread, taking a large gulp of his coffee to ward off his worries.

Curiosity gleamed in Kori's eyes "Did you struggle in high school?" She asked.

Garfield sighed, adding more sugar to his cup. "Barely scraped by. I was considered a nerd, but not the smart kind. The jocks used to pick on me a lot, probably because I wasn't smart enough to do their homework for them."

Kori's sympathy was evident in her expression. "That sounds rough."

He shrugged casually, trying to play off the memories of his high school struggles. "Yeah, but I never let it get to me. I would crack a few jokes, and if I made them laugh, they usually wouldn't shove me into a locker."

Curiosity got the better of Kori as she leaned forward, resting her head on her propped-up hands. "What about girls?"

Garfield's awkwardness surfaced as he scratched the back of his neck. "Well, I wasn't exactly a ladies' man." He admitted bashfully. "I did have a couple of girlfriends in middle school, but things never really got too serious."

"Oh, but you're so adorable. I can't imagine you not hitting it off with the ladies." Kori complimented in a sweet tone causing his cheeks to flush.

He blushed even more, feeling the weight of her words. "I mean, it would be nice to have a girlfriend for longer than two weeks." He confessed, letting out a tired yawn. The exhaustion from his lack of sleep and demanding college schedule was catching up with him, even in the midst of this unexpected encounter.

"So, tell me, Garfield, why do you keep falling asleep in class?" Her curiosity shifted the conversation.

Garfield sighed tiredly, feeling a mix of frustration and resignation. "It's my roommate. He's a great friend and all, but he snores all night and has this obnoxious morning routine that prevents me from getting any solid sleep."

"That's a shame." She said, genuinely sympathizing with his predicament.

"Yeah, well... not much I can do about it." Garfield shrugged, finishing his coffee. As he crumpled the empty cup and aimed for the trash can, his tiredness got the better of him, and the ball missed its mark. He let out an annoyed huff and slumped down in his seat.

But then, to his surprise, Kori placed her hand over his, and his eyes widened in astonishment. It was a simple gesture, yet it conveyed a sense of comfort and connection.

"I'm not sure if this will help, but I planned on cooking a lasagna tomorrow. Maybe some real food will make you feel better?" She offered, her voice filled with hope.

Garfield's disbelief reached new heights. "Are you asking me out to dinner?" There was no doubt in his mind that going out to dinner meant a real date, unlike the uncertainty he felt about their coffee outing.

"Of course, silly." She laughed, her melodic voice bringing a smile to his face. "I'll pick you up at six."

As Kori playfully nudged his arm and made her way out of the dining hall, Garfield watched her depart, still in a daze from the turn of events. He had a date tomorrow, a genuine date, with the beautiful bombshell named Kori Anders. The thought filled him with a mix of excitement, nervousness, and a renewed sense of possibility. Perhaps this unexpected connection with Kori would be the start of something extraordinary—a chapter in his college life that would bring new experiences, cherished moments, and a love that exceeded his wildest dreams.

It was a restless night for Garfield. The caffeine from the coffee he had shared with Kori earlier in the day contributed to his difficulty in falling asleep. However, it was Kori herself who occupied his thoughts, making it nearly impossible for him to find peace in slumber. When he did manage to drift off, his dreams were filled with her presence.

In his dream, Garfield found himself on a sun-kissed beach, the sound of crashing waves and the warmth of the sand beneath his feet enveloping him. The sky was a brilliant blue, and the sun radiated its gentle rays, casting a golden glow on everything around him. And there, amidst the picturesque scenery, stood Kori, clad in a bright pink bikini, her figure accentuated by the vibrant colors of the surroundings. She beckoned to him with excitement, calling out his name, her voice carried by the gentle sea breeze.

Unable to resist her magnetic pull, Garfield made his way towards her, his heart pounding with anticipation. As he approached, he took in every detail of her appearance—the way her long red hair danced in the wind, her eyes sparkling with intensity, her sweet smile that could light up the world. But it was her laughter that truly captivated him, a melody that echoed in his ears and brought an indescribable joy to his soul.

In this dream world, Garfield possessed the strength and stature of Victor, effortlessly sweeping Kori off her feet and placing her atop his shoulders. Together, they glided across the water, defying gravity as they embarked on an exhilarating adventure. Garfield relished the sensation of having Kori in his arms, her soft words of affection and tenderness filling his ears. He longed to feel the touch of her lips against his own, to taste the sweetness of a kiss that would undoubtedly seal their connection.

However, just as their lips were about to meet, the harsh sound of Victor's blaring alarm jolted Garfield awake, abruptly pulling him out of his dreamlike paradise. Disoriented and disheartened, he sat up in bed, realizing that the beautiful fantasy he had immersed himself in was just that—a figment of his imagination. A wistful sigh escaped his lips as he mourned the interruption of a moment he had yearned for, his mind still filled with the vivid image of Kori and the longing to make that dream a reality.
