Chapter Twenty Six:

While the conversation with the twins lasted for over two hours, quite a lot past the curfew, Enuma managed to convince the Dark Elves to join her Peerage. With Aura becoming the redhead's second Knight, as the enhanced speed of the Knight-piece complimented Aura's use of guerrilla-, hit'n'run tactics and her skills as a Beast Tamer, and Mare becoming Enuma's first Bishop. Something that actually terrified the entire Peerage was the revelation that Mare was a candidate for earning the title of Disciple of Nature, a title given to the most powerful Nature Mages in the twins realm of birth, which was revealed by the twins to be called Alfheim.

Something that Aura and Mare were initially hesitant about telling the others was the fact that they were not only orphans but also outcasts in the realm of Alfheim, lacking a place to truly call home. Whereas most Dark Elves chose to live underground, that wasn't the life either twin wanted, so they simply left for the surface. But because of tensions between the Light and Dark Elves, the twins weren't welcomed in the cities of the Light Elves. Forcing the twins to simply live on the land, which led them to unintentionally earning the ire of the royal family when they intruded on their hunting grounds one time too many during a very cold winter in order to hunt for food and not starve.

The royal guard hunted the twins down, captured them and they were set to be executed. The only reason why they weren't executed and ended up on Earth was because they escaped through a portal during the chaos of an invasion of the realm of Alfheim. Sadly, due to a combination of various factors, like being barely fed at the time, while the twins did make it through the portal, they didn't do so unscathed due to something happening to the one responsible for keeping the portal open and stable, making the twins end up on the Hogwarts school grounds and rather singed.

When Hermione asked her fellow Knight what Aura was able to do as a Beast Tamer, the Dark Elven Knight replied that being a Beast Tamer was actually rather simple. The heterochromic girl was simply put extremely good with animals, even managing to raise a kind of Drake (a wingless Dragon) native to the realm of Alfheim from an egg to a young adult. She named him Slack, mainly because of his rather lazy personality, who was killed by the royal guard when they captured Aura and Mare. Both of the twins missed him, which resulted in Enuma suggesting that they'd take a trip to the Familiar Forest during the upcoming full moon. While a Familiar might not be a replacement (and never will be), it might be something to bring comfort to the Beast Tamer and her brother.
