The sun rose the next day as Tiffany, Hova, Kreela, and Fugax prepared to head out to Tiffany's home. Tiffany had managed to get a mostly sound night of sleep though she did have a couple of little nightmares about Stan arriving to kill her and all the ants, but she hoped she could prevent that with this journey. Tiffany also found a shed piece of ant exoskeleton lying around and fashioned it into a makeshift chest plate to put over the silk over her chest giving herself a little more clothing and protection.
The little team set out and made their way through the yard to the front steps of the house. Due to Tiffany lacking the ability to climb smooth surfaces, she had to hold onto Hova's back as she and the two other ants claimed up the steps. It was slightly nerve racking, but Hova managed to keep Tiffany calm and assured the tiny human, she wouldn't let her fall. The group claimed the steps and went under the door and into the house.
"So this is what the inside of a human home looks like." Said Kreela in awe.
"Everything is gigantic! Guess that makes sense since humans are huge." Said Fugax.
Tiffany looked around her home. It was a strange and alien sight to behold. Tiffany recognized everything in her home, but due to her new size everything was gigantic and towered over her and her companions. It was like being in a completely different world. Tiffany looked ahead and saw something that was going to be a bit of a challenge to get.
"Shag carpet." Said Tiffany looking ahead at the white shag carpeting that covered the living room.
The strands that made up the carpet were about as tall as the blades of grass in the yard, but were more closely packed together. It would be very hard to navigate through that and get to other areas of the house. Tiffany planned to call Stan off involved getting the attention of one of Tiffany's family members, preferably her Grandma and getting her to call Stan and cancel the extermination order. The best place to get Grandma's attention would be the kitchen either on the table or the counter.
"I got this. Leave it to me." Said Fugax as he marched into the carpet and tried to navigate his way through it.
A few seconds later Fugax walked out of the carpet confused.
"Ok I don't have it. That thing is one confusing maze." Said Fugax.
"We could climb across the walls." Suggested Kreela.
Tiffany considered that, but she didn't want to put Hova or any of the other ants through a lot of work carrying her. Traveling along the walls would be quicker then going through the carpet, but not by much. They needed a faster way of travel. Tiffany took notice of a nearby table and decided that she and the ants should climb it to get a better view of the room. They climbed up the table and took a look around looking for a solution to their travel problems. There was a blue flower potted plant sitting on the table and a few of it's petals had fallen off. Tiffany picked up a petal and examined it. She then took notice of one of the fans Grandma had set up around the house to ward off aliens and she got a crazy idea. Tiffany instructed the others to grab a petal and then she told them her idea. The idea was to use the flower petals as hang gliders and use the wind from the fans to get them to the kitchen.
"You sure this is a good idea?" Asked Fugax.
"It should work. We are tiny and don't weigh that much, so the wind and the petals should carry us." Said Tiffany trying to assure her friends.
The four travelers took a deep breath and then they jumped off the table with the flower petals held up above their heads. The wind from the fan grabbed them and blew them through the air. It was a amazing feeling drifting through the air above the ground using one fan after another to travel forward. Eventually they made it to the kitchen and landed on the tile floor. Tiffany tore a bit of her petal off and tied it around her neck giving herself a short little cape before getting into Hova's back. The ants scaled the kitchen counter and found a box of spilled jellybeans.
The ants were helping themselves to the jellybeans, while Tiffany remained on the lookout for any of her family members. Eventually Grandma walked into the kitchen and Tiffany saw she was wearing her hat with the various googles and tools on it. Tiffany jumped up and down, wavering her arms up and down, and shouting for all she was worth.
"Grandma! Over here!"
But Tiffany's was too small and her voice too tiny to be heard by normal human ears. It seemed like the mission was going to be a total bust, until Grandma walked over to the counter, looked down, and finally took notice of her tiny granddaughter. Grandma stared down in shock at the sight of Tiffany.
"Tiffany!" Cried Grandma making her false teeth fall out and fall towards Tiffany.
Tiffany cried out in alarm and managed to jump out of the way to avoid the falling dentures as they landed on the countertop.
"Sorry." Said Grandma as she picked up the teeth and put them back in her mouth.
"That's ok! I need you to do something for me!" Called Tiffany.
"What's that sweetie? I can't hear you." Said Grandma bending down.
Tiffany realized that their was going to be a communication difficulty. She thought for a moment before she got an idea. Tiffany mimicked singing with a pretend microphone and her Grandma understood. Grandma headed to Tiffany's room grabbed a battery microphone that was used for karaoke and came back to the kitchen. She made sure it was on before settling it down close to Tiffany. Tiffany walked up to the microphone gave it a few taps and spoke into it.
"Testing. Testing. Ok I think it's working." Said Tiffany as her Grandma gave her a thumbs up.
"Tiffany what happened? You're tiny! Did aliens shrink you down and kidnapped you?" Said Grandma.
"I was shrunken down and kidnapped, but it wasn't aliens that did it. It was ants from the yard. They only did it because I kept attacking them and now I'm serving time and making amends. I even made friends with some of the ants and they helped me get into the house and up onto the counter." Said Tiffany.
"Do you need rescuing?" Asked Grandma.
"Yes, but not from the ants. I need you to call a exterminator named Stan Beals and cancel an order for him to come here. Lucas signed a contract with him. If Stan shows up he will kill me and the ants." Said Tiffany.
Grandma went over to the fridge where the family kept all the cards of local businesses and emergency numbers pinned to the front. She located Stan's card and picked up the phone to dial him.
"This is Stan Beals. Call "Beals-A-Bug" and leave the bug killing to me! What can I do for you?" Said Stan.
"Hi I'm a resident of the Nickle residence, my grandson signed a contract with you telling you to come to my home to exterminate. I would like to cancel that." Said Grandma.
"What?! Why?!" Demanded Stan.
"Because my granddaughter asked me to and we have no need of your services. Goodbye!" Said Grandma before ending the call.
"Good job Grandma. You just saved us all in a big way." Said Tiffany feeling a huge sense of relief.
The phone suddenly rang and Grandma answered it expecting it to be a angry Stan, but it was Doreen.
"Hey Grandma, it's Doreen. How are you and the kids doing?" Said Doreen.
"We're doing fine." Said Grandma.
"Is Tiffany there?" Asked Doreen.
"Yes." Said Grandma.
"Can I talk to her?" Asked Doreen.
"Um...sure." Said Grandma as she placed the phone next to Tiffany and the microphone.
"Hey...mom. How are you?" Said Tiffany.
"Oh I'm good. Your father and I are having a wonderful time. How are you doing sweetie?" Said Doreen.
"I'm...doing alright." Said Tiffany.
"You sound strange." Said Doreen.
"Bad connection problem." Said Tiffany.
"Ok. Then how are things?" Said Doreen.
"Everything is ok. I'm having a bit of a bully problem, but I'm dealing with." Said Tiffany.
"Bully problem. Is that what has been bothering you lately?" Said Doreen.
"Yeah. I'm sorry. I should have told you about it earlier." Said Tiffany.
"That's ok sweetie. Better late then never. When I get back I want you to tell me about it." Said Doreen.
"Ok mom." Said Tiffany.
"Goodbye. Love you sweetie." Said Doreen.
"Love you too mom." Said Tiffany before the the call ended.
"So what now?" Asked Grandma.
Tiffany glanced at Hova, Kreela, Fugax, and the box of jellybeans and got an idea.
"Well you can give us a lift back to the ant hill and help deliver some food." Said Tiffany.
A few minutes later Grandma exited the house carrying a box of jellybeans, which Tiffany, Hova, Kreela, and Fugax were riding on as she made her way to the ant hill. Grandma stopped a couple of feet from the ant hill and gently set it on the ground.
"Good luck Tiny Tiffany." Said Grandma before heading back into the house.
The ants approached the jellybean box in wonder as they stared at the large bounty of food and Tiffany, Hova, Kreela, and Fugax waved at them. It was a large victory feast for a successful mission. The ants cheered for Tiffany and the food as they began to collect the jellybeans from the box. All the ants were happy, except for Zoc, who just scowled with anger and annoyance.
To be continued.
