My name is Delia prior . I am the daughter of abnegation leaders:Andrew and Natalia prior . I also have two sisters and a brother whose name are beatrice , Maria and Caleb prior .

We born in a city called Chicago. It is a city which built after a Hundred Years' War. The purpose of the city is that to protect the survivors of the war and their children. Our ancestors also established faction system to protect the peace

The five factions are :abnegation, erudite, dauntless, amity and Candor . Every of the factions have their duty:abnegation provides us with selfless leaders in government , erudite provides us with technologies and educated teachers, dauntless provides us with protection from within and without, Candor provides us with the leader in law and amity provides us with foods and counsellors . Without any of them, we can't survive

When the children reach their age of 16, we have to choose a faction. We can choose to either staying with our born faction or leave them. However with what we believe" faction before blood", if we leave our family, that mean we forsake them permanently.

I know that I am not abnegation because I am not selfless enough but I also don't want to give up my family. They love me so much especially my mom. I have a best friend from erudite whose name is Abby.

She is the niece of Jeanine Matthew . My parent really hate Jeanine Matthew but they also like Abby. Abby has a boyfriend called Eric coulter. He is also a son for one of the leader in erudite.

"Sister!" Beatrice is calling me ." Abby is here ."

"Yeah I am coming." I get up from my table.

I am just doing my homework . I sneak out the room and run downstair . Abby is in a blue dress

"Can we do the homework together and then we are going for picnic ." Abby hugs me

"However my parent need to agree ." I say in a lower voice

"Fine yeah you are abnegation. Everything have to follow a specific protocol." Abby sighs

Then the door opens, our parent are home with food

"Hey Abby." Mom smiles at her

"Ms prior , after we finish our homework , can we go for a picnic ? I can bring beatrice and Maria together with me." Abby looks at my mom expectingly.

"Yeah you can . However come back before dinner. Do you want to go for a party with us?" Mom smiles." It's at dauntless compound ."

Yeah today is a dancing party which hold by dauntless every two years. I really want to go but before I was too small.

"Yeah sure , I think that I have to go anyway. I promise that we will come back before ." Abby grabs my arm and drags me upstair

We enter our room. She sits on my desk. She seems upset.

"What is happening ?" I hold her hand

"I broke up with Eric ." Abby cries." He was physically abused me and his brother comes to help me but he punched him in his face."

"Eric was aggressive? I didn't expect that. Yeah leaves him is the best option." I shrug

I know Jason coulter who is the elder brother of Eric coulter. He has the highest IQ score so he is the new representative of erudite now .

"How are you and Jason doing?" Abby looks at me

"We were never together before Abby. We are just best friend." I shake my head

"I thought that you were flirting with him." Abby giggles."'I expected us to marry with the brothers."

Abby rests her head on my shoulder . She takes off her jacket.

"He really hits you!" I am shocked." Look at those bruise. They are all purple."

"It's okay." Abby sits up." Let's us do the homework."

We take out our textbook and start to read and write our homework. Abby is very clever so we are doing super fast. It is a group work and we have to present in school the day before our choosing ceremony.

"I heard that dauntless is having a new lieutenant" Abby does not look up.

"Who is it!" I wander

"You are so curious , aren't you?" Abby shrugs." His name is Alan Davis ."

Alan Davis? Never heard this name . After we finish our work, I call beatrice and Maria to be ready

"Where are you guys going." Caleb comes out of his room

"We are going for picnic . Caleb do you want to come." Abby sticks her head out of the door

"Are you Jeanine Matthew's niece?" Caleb frowns." Why are you at our house?"

Caleb looks like our dad but also he acts like him. He hates whoever our dad hates so he doesn't like erudite. He will be abnegation and I am sure of it.

"She is my best friend Caleb. Don't be so rude." I clinch my teeth." I am your elder sister so please respects me ."

"Fine fine , whatever ." Caleb closes the door harder

Dad comes down stair. He was startle by the sound

"What is wrong with you Caleb."

"I am sorry dad." Caleb says

"I am sorry Abby. Caleb is having some teenage trouble." Dad shakes his head." You guys can go."

I and Abby leave the house with Maria and beatrice . We take the bus to go to the park. Except some erudite and dauntless taking train and private car, we all take bus .

"Do your parent have a car?" Maria asks

"Yes they do but they don't actually drive us" Abby shrugs." We have to take public transportation."

"Okay , that is kind of selfish." Beatrice rolls her eyes

I look at them with disapproval in my eyes.

"Beatrice watches your language please. It's just their parent 's choice."I say

"It's okay Delia." Abby pats me on my shoulder

Then we arrive at the park, abby's parent are there and her sisters.

"So you are Delia ?" Abby's sister scoffs." Jason's best friend."

"Yeah kind of ." I say awkwardly

Jason is also here surprisingly. He walks toward us

"Hey Delia." Jason gives me a small flower." You look so beautiful."

"Thanks ." I lower my head .

"Are you coming tonight" Jason hesitates for a second

I nod at him. He looks at his watch.

"I have to go Delia. I will see you tonight at the party." Jason smiles

He kisses my forehead. I am shocked by what he is doing

"Delia , you know that I have a feeling for you." Jason says

"Thanks Jason but I am still struggling." I sigh." Between staying and leaving."

"Choose what is right for you and right person should come to you after." Jason says

He leaves and everyone staring at us . Abby's sister Elizabeth is unhappy .

"Does he likes you?" Elizabeth questions me .

"I don't think so. We are just best friend." I sit down beside Abby.

"Sister . It is Jason's choice to like her or not. However it is also Delia's choice to accept or refuse" Abby hands me and Maria two cookies and also a chocolate for Maria .

Maria doesn't like cookie so Abby alternate it for her

"I like chocolate." Maria seems happy.

"You are very dauntless. Chocolate is dauntless's traditional dessert."Abby's mom giggles." Maria is cute."

"Thanks . However I am not choosing this year though, only Delia is choosing ."

Abby's dad nods at her. Abby takes out a kite .

"Are we going to fly this?" Abby stands up." Come with me."

"Yeah sure." I stand up and follow her

We run together and the kite flies in the sky.

"It is so high!" I and Abby scream with laughter .

After picnic , we go back home . Mom and dad just leave the house with Caleb.

"You should go Caleb. It is politeness." Mom wraps her arm around caleb's shoulder

"I don't like intimacy mom. You are breaking the norm." Caleb pushes mom's arm away

"Don't be rigid " I laugh." You should be able to feel mom's love."

"I can feel but not this way." Caleb rolls his eyes at me .

We walk together . Mom looks at me and Abby.

"How is the picnic ?" Mom asks

"It's fun. I and Delia play the kite together." Abby wraps me in her arms." We are best friend."

"Yeah best friend forever." I nod

Suddenly, I remember the flower Jason puts on me

"The flower is pretty . Who gives it to you." Mom takes the flower off my hair." Abby did you give this to her?"

"Yes?" Abby is nervous .

"Don't lie, I know that is Jason." Dad rolls his eyes." I don't like him."

I know that he doesn't. We get on the bus . Candor are packed full on the bus .

"Oh bunch of stiffs." A Candor boy smirks

Stiff is the nickname given to us and we can't rid of them unless we leave abnegation.

"Shut up your mouth ." Abby screams

"Oh Abby? Jeanine Matthew's niece?" The boy frowns." Why are you with them. Don't you feel shame ?"

Abby walks toward him and slaps him in his face

"They don't hurt people but I do . Shut your mouth Peter." Abby smirks." I promise if you go to dauntless, I will use all my relationship to let you become Factionless."

"You will not do that. My father is very important man in Candor ." Peter Hayes rolls his eyes

"Oh my, I am so scared! However my auntie is Jeanine Matthew ." Abby laughs so loud .

Then we arrive at dauntless headquarter. We get off the bus.

"Dauntless compound is so huge."Maria exclaims.

"Yeah it is huge and very strange." I nod at her

We enter the compound by the stair case . When we enter, we hear people screaming and laughing

"It such a chaos. " Caleb hissed

"It is a amazing for me . It is sound of freedom." I breath heavily

"You see that man over there! That is Alan Davis." Abby nudges me

However when I look at the direction, that man already left.

"You look so late. He is gone."
