Chapter Seven

Legolas stood leaning against a wall, Aragorn beside him. He watched as the hobbits, the dwarf, and the other human, Faramir, gather by them, packs ready. He smiled as he watched the more heavy set hobbit speaking quietly to the pony they had rescued.

The elf looked up as Elrond came up to them, and lifted a hand. The others quieted and the elf lord began speaking. "I will not command any, save the ring-bearer. Never shall anyone touch the ring, except for the company, and than only in the deepest need. The others of the company have no commitment to follow him the full way. If they have need to leave they are free to do so."

After Elrond's speech, Legolas watched as Gandalf bowed his head in farewell then turned and started walking. The elf waited till all the others had passed him, then, with one more look at Rivendell, he sighed, and turned away, following the rest of the company down the winding road.

After a wile, when even for him the wind was uncomfortable, Legolas began studying the others in the company. He was in the back, watching for enemies coming at them from the back and side. But he could watch the backs of the company, watching them, and gauging them. He had made a oath to the ring-bearer, and long before that, to Aragorn, to protect them, and he meant to keep those oaths.

He saw Gimli, the short stocky dwarf. Gimli was a annoyance, and a dwarf, definitely not a good combination. But, Legolas watched as the dwarf striding beside Pippin and Merry, talking quietly to them and helping them when they stumbled, and resignedly smiled. He may not like the dwarf, but he was not harmful. Nor were the two hobbits, Pippin and Merry.

Sam was leading Bill, the pony, and walking next to Frodo, talking to each intermittently. Sam may have as strong a loyalty to the pony as to Frodo, but Legolas had no fear that, if it came to it, the hobbit would leave the pony for his master.

The only danger Frodo showed was to himself. So far, as far as the elf could tell, caring the ring had no side affects, but it was only a matter of time before something changed. Probably for the worse.

Legolas frowned as he studied Faramir. It wasn't that he didn't like the human. But he didn't know if he could trust him. The human was a mystery. A conundrum. When Legolas first saw Faramir, the human was grave, almost ...grim. Then he was effected strangely by the evil of the ring. Then there was the fact that Faramir didn't back down when he confronted him. And now, the human was walking behind the dwarf, Pippin, and Merry, laughing at something that the younger hobbit said. Legolas sighed, and shook his head. He suspected that Faramir could be trusted, and that given time, he could be as good a friend as Aragorn.

Looking up into Gandalf's twinkling eyes, Legolas nodded. He trusted everyone. He trusted Gandalf's wisdom.

So I have most of next chapter done. And I am going to try and do a challenge 100 words every day for 100 days... I'll mainly focus on this book when I am doing that. I am planing on making this Exchanged the Fellowship of The Ring. And maybe later I will do Two Towers. Any way... Have a good day/afternoon/night.
