Hi All. Welcome to chapter two of Potter Kind: On Their Own. This is the second story in the Potter Kind series, I hope to write new stories for this series frequently. This series was inspired by some works by a writer who used to be on this site but doesn't put her work out there because of some negative feedback sadly. This story is complete and was written as a one shot, but as my poll results were tied and it was 15000+ words long, I decided it was too long to be a one shot, so I've split it into six chapters for you. Updates should be weekly unless something drastic happens. Don't forget if you haven't already, make sure to go onto your profile and opt in for email notifications if you want to be notified each time that I put a new chapter/story up.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, Castor Charlus Potter and Jennifer Euphemia Potter are my own original character, but all other recognisable characters belong to J K Rowling, I just like to use them to do my bidding.
Series Summary: We know from the Black Tapestry that Dorea Black married Charlus Potter and they had a son. What if Charlus was James Potter's Father Fleamont Potter's brother? What if James had a little sister? What if Harry had other family members who could have taken him in and raise him? This is the story of the last three Potters.
Story Summary: Castor is a Hogwarts Graduate now and determined to be his little sister and brother's legal guardian, this is the story of their first day alone. AU, two OC's. Contains Spanking. Full warnings inside.
Warning: This is AU and has two OC's, and contains non-sexual spanking of a minor by their legal guardian. Don't like, don't read.
As always a huge, huge thank you to my amazing Beta who has been an amazing support in writing this. Yes, I am still trying my hardest to turn her into a Harry Potter Fan and I think I'm slowly convincing her. Without her support and guidance, I probably wouldn't have written this one.

Breakfast was slightly strained, Jenny wasn't talking to Cas, and Cas was trying to let her express her displeasure with him. Fortunately, Harry didn't pick up on the tension coming from his brother and sister and was just happily eating his eggy bread, bacon, and the grape halves that were on his plate.
Jenny pushed back from the table once she had finished her eggy bread and bacon, the grapes untouched on her plate.
"Jenny, you need to eat your fruit," Cas reminded her.
Jenny glared at her brother and opened her mouth to tell him he couldn't tell her what to do.
"Jennifer, do as your brother says and eat your fruit, unless you'd rather eat it whilst sitting on a sore bottom," Sirius ordered firmly, preventing her from saying anything she'd end up regretting.
Jenny closed her mouth with a snap and slumped down in her seat. A small part of her almost thought it might be worth it to move to Potter Manor, at least Cas couldn't make her eat fruit and vegetables. She reluctantly popped a grape into her mouth, eating it as quickly as she could, anything to get the unpleasant task done.
Cas had to bite his tongue to prevent him from telling Sirius to butt out again, he was Harry and Jenny's guardian now, he could handle getting his sister to eat fruits and vegetables.
Harry finished first, still oblivious to the growing tension at the breakfast table, "all done!" He declared, "wanna p'ay now!"
"I've got him," Remus insisted. He grabbed some of the wipes to clean Harry's face and hands up, before he tugged the little boy up and out of his booster seat, "what do you want to play then little Prongslet?"
Cas forced out another long slow breath, this was why he needed to move to Potter Manor, Remus and Sirius were too used to being the ones in charge. He was Harry and Jenny's legal guardian now, he had to make decisions for them, and they needed to respect that.
"I'm finished," Jenny declared when she'd eaten about half her grapes.
"Not yet you're not little lady, I still see about half your grapes on your plate," Sirius pointed out.
Cas had opened his mouth to allow Jenny to leave the table, she'd eaten half her fruit, that was the minimum he would demand, but Sirius spoke before he could. He could feel his annoyance rising in him, but he pushed it down, this was their last meal here, after this if Sirius tried to push his authority on his siblings, he'd remind him that he was the one in charge now.
Sirius could see Cas was getting annoyed with him, but he'd faced this battle of wills over fruits and vegetables with Jenny far more than Cas had and he knew what worked with her. One of her friends was a very fussy eater and was allowed to dictate what she would and wouldn't eat, and Jenny was trying to copy her, something Sirius was not about to let happen, he knew the importance of a well-balanced diet for kids.
Jenny whined, "but I'm full," she tried.
"Don't care, you should have eaten them first. Now I don't want to hear anymore fussing or I will take that to mean you need some over the lap persuasion," Sirius stated.
Jenny knew Sirius was, well, serious, so she reluctantly ate the rest of her grapes, "there, happy now?"
"Ecstatic, you can help me wash up," Sirius grinned.
"What? Why do I have to help wash up?" Jenny whined, "that's House Elf work!"
"Not in this house it's not. And you have to help wash up because Harry and Remus cooked for us," Sirius answered easily.
"But… but what about Cas? He's not doing anything to help," Jenny pointed out.
"Cas has to start getting everything over to Potter Manor," Sirius informed her, looking at his little brother and making a mental note to talk to him when he saw the furious look on his face.
Jenny searched around desperately for a counter argument, "he… he can't do that! My stuff isn't packed yet," she declared triumphantly.
"Actually, since you were taking so long to pack your things up, I decided to do you a favour and pack it all up for you with magic," Sirius proclaimed.
Jenny's jaw dropped, "you did what!?" She shrieked in outrage.
"Oi! Do not take that tone with me Jennifer," Sirius admonished sharply. "You've had plenty of time to pack and you chose not to do it yourself, so I did it for you. Now you can start with clearing the table, I need a quick word with your brother and then I'll be back to help clean up," he ordered. He got up and motioned towards the pantry to Cas, he could see his little brother was close to blowing up and didn't think that was something Jenny needed to witness.
Cas was absolutely furious; Sirius was just steamrolling all over his authority and not showing him any respect at all. He didn't want to be fighting with his sister, but Sirius should defer to him when it came to telling Jenny what to do. He got up abruptly and marched into the pantry, fully intent upon giving Sirius a piece of his mind. His brother might claim to be supportive of him taking on guardianship of Jenny and Harry, but his actions were saying differently.
Sirius followed Cas into the pantry and held up a hand to forestall his little brother speaking. He quickly cast Muffliato before he dropped his hand, "there, now we can't be overheard."
"What the hell was that Sirius!? You were the one saying Jenny has to respect me. How the hell is she supposed to do that when you're the one that's constantly telling her what to do huh?!" Cas demanded.
Sirius gave Cas an unimpressed look for his tone but decided not to comment, "well since you've been in Hogwarts up until very recently, you aren't aware of Jenny's newest challenges. See one of your little sister's friends is incredibly fussy with food, she won't eat any fruits or vegetables and her parents allow her to dictate what she will and won't eat. Jenny has been trying the same thing, so getting her to eat her fruit and vegetables has become a minor battle each mealtime. That is why I stepped in there, because she normally responds to the threat of a spanking, but I didn't think that was a battle you wanted to have just yet."
That knocked the wind out of Cas' sails, but he wasn't quite willing to drop his annoyance just yet. "And the cleaning up after breakfast deal? I'm pretty sure I could have handled that one," he challenged.
"I have no doubt you could have, but that same friend is not unlike James was before your parents set us straight. She doesn't have to do any chores at all, her house elves take care of everything. Lily was horrified when we all moved in together and James and I still expected everything to be taken care of for us. When they took you and Jenny in, they wanted to make sure you knew how to do basic household chores and helped out with some. Helping to clean up after meals was one of those chores. Jenny has been attempting to insist that the House Elves can take care of all the chores. Again, you couldn't have known this because you only graduated yesterday," Sirius explained.
"Well… I… you could have told me, and I would have handled it," Cas insisted a little lamely.
Sirius looked at Cas for a moment before deciding not to point out there hadn't really been much time to discuss all of Harry and Jenny's particular challenges in the past couple days. The day before yesterday he'd gotten back from Hogwarts and they'd gone out for a meal to celebrate, then yesterday had been his graduation and they'd been back at Hogwarts for that before going out for another meal. Today was the first time they'd had somewhat of a free day and Cas was insistent upon moving out straight away. "Well, I've told you now so you know for the future, and from now on you can choose how to handle it," he finished. "Unless you have anything else you want to shout at me for?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
Cas felt the wave of shame for how he'd all but jumped down Sirius' throat, "no… sorry… again."
Sirius shook his head, "you're lucky I'm in a forgiving mood kiddo. Now do you think we can get you moved over to Potter Manor without me needing to check on that brain to butt connection or should I just go ahead and give it a check over anyway?"
Cas shook his head, "no, sorry, I'm just a little stressed out with everything. I'll keep myself in check," he assured his big brother.
"Good, now how about you go and move everything over to Potter Manor whilst Remus plays with Harry, and I wash up with Jenny. Once you've got everything over there, we'll pack up Harry's toys and get them over there and we can help you get everything set up," Sirius offered.
Cas nodded in acceptance of this, grateful for the help, "sounds good to me."
Sirius cancelled the Muffliato and cleared his throat, "we're coming out now Jenny, so I suggest you back away from the door."
Both men gave a knowing smile at the small squeak coming from the other side of the door.
Once the sounds of footsteps rushing back stopped Cas opened the door, hiding a smile at the guilty look on his little sister's face.
"Nice try Trouble, but you gotta be better than that to fool a Marauder," Sirius grinned. "Why don't you get to wiping the table down whilst I do these dishes?" He chivvied.
With Jenny and Harry occupied Cas went back upstairs to shrink and collect up all of Jenny's packed up things. He went through the Floo to Potter Manor and put all the boxes in the correct rooms. He also checked to make sure they had all the necessities they needed, making sure the kitchen had dishes and cutlery. As he had the time, he set up the order boxes, so they'd have fresh food being delivered and summoned the House Elves. He wasn't Lord Potter, and he couldn't take up the mantle of Lord Potter, Harry was the future Lord Potter, but he was the Potter Regent, so the House Elves would obey him. Thinking of what Sirius said, Cas decided breakfast would be his, Jenny's, and when Harry was old enough, his responsibility, not the Elves, and they would cook dinner and clean up after dinner twice a week. He made this clear with the House Elves, as well as the fact that they weren't to clean his or Jenny's rooms. Harry was old enough to clean up his toys, but too young to have to actually clean his room, so the Elves could still take care of that.
The House Elves weren't entirely happy to have to give up some of their jobs, but they accepted it, Mistress Lily and Master James had not exactly the same, but similar enough rules when they'd been living here.
With everything set up Cas Flooed back ho… to Sirius and Remus' place, it wasn't home anymore he reminded himself, the Manor was home again now.
Jenny was sat on the sofa, arms folded over her chest, glaring at Cas, clearly sulking.
Harry was giggling and screeching with delight as he used Sirius as a climbing frame.
Remus had packed up Harry's toys and was waiting to take them across to Potter Manor.
Sirius stopped when Cas came back and stood up with Harry holding the hysterically giggling little toddler by his ankles. "I believe this belongs to you, why don't you take Harry across? I'll Floo with the little thunder cloud over there – just in case she decides to try and shove you out of the wrong grate, and Remus can bring Harry's toys?" He suggested as he 'dropped' Harry into Cas' arms.
Cas caught Harry easily and tossed him up in the air before settling him on his hip, at this rate Harry would be going down for his afternoon nap with no problem. He didn't want to accept Sirius' help, he should be able to do this on his own, but he couldn't Floo with Harry and Jenny and he didn't want Jenny Flooing on her own yet, and he also couldn't leave Harry on his own. He had no other option but to accept Sirius' help, as much as it frustrated him. "Yeah, thanks," he agreed. "Come on little Wingnut, you're going to love Potter Manor," he grinned.
Jenny glared at Sirius, "you're not funny Sirius," she huffed.
"Oh Genevieve, you wound me so, how can one say something so cruel!" Sirius gasped raising his hand up to his forehead like he was about to faint.
Jenny growled and tried to hide an annoyed smile, "don't call me Genevieve! Ugh you're so weird Sirius!"
Cas felt a fresh surge of annoyance. Sirius seemed to know exactly how to deal with Jenny when that was supposed to be him, nothing Jenny threw at him seemed to phase Sirius, whereas everything he tried to do seemed to just do everything wrong. "I'll get Harry across," he muttered. He stepped back through the Floo, going home this time, to what was going to be their real home, for good now.
Remus followed Cas through shortly after, "where do you want to set up Harry's toys?"
Cas felt some of the tension leave him when Remus didn't just tell him what to do and instead asked what he wanted. "How about in the living room?" He asked. Truly he didn't know, were Harry's toys supposed to be in the living room, or were they supposed to only be in the dedicated playroom? At what age did you start making a kid keep their toys out of the living room? But he didn't feel like he could say that he didn't know, felt like saying that would make Remus question whether he knew what he was doing, so he gave his best guess.
Remus nodded, "she'll come round Cas, give it time," he advised softly. "She's not really that upset about it, she's just giving you a hard time. Once she gets used to you being the one in charge things will get easier. After James and Lily… well, she gave Sirius quite the run around, but eventually she settled down, it'll be the same for you."
That actually did make Cas feel a little better, it always seemed Sirius had it together, so knowing he had struggled and hadn't instantly just known what to do reassured Cas a little.
"You'll figure it out Cas, I know you will," Remus assured him. He gave a small smile and took Harry's toys into the living room, setting them up as they had been at his and Sirius's.
