Chapter Forty Nine:

Visiting and leaving a get well present for the petrified students in the infirmary of Hogwarts had become something of a common occurrence in the past few months. And the members of Enuma's Peerage were no exception, usually just talking to their King about either their progress (or lack of progress) on finding a solution to Enuma's situation or just about whatever they thought were interesting or noteworthy that happened recently. Something that the group found odd though was a small statue of a black dragon that Shalltear was pretty sure was from a video game, but the really odd thing about the statue wasn't the statue itself but the get well-card that came with it. The card had been signed by a pair of individuals whose names were apparently Blake and Luna Ouroboros-Lovegood. While most of the non-petrified members of the Peerage were confused, Luna wasn't and explained that the get well-gift was most likely from a different universe, in which her counterpart and whoever Blake Ouroboros was the counterpart of were apparently married, and also capable of traveling the multiverse. Given that the dragon statue was clearly a gift for Enuma, the Peerage-members, for whom the revelation that alternate universes actually existed didn't go over their heads (namely Aura and Mare, though the latter was to a slightly lesser extent), suspected that Blake Ouroboros was Enuma's counterpart.

As the group was busy having something of an existential crisis, the sudden sound of a ringing phone, the ringtone of which Shalltear and Hermione recognized was the theme song from the old The Adventures of Tintin-cartoon, brought them out of their stupor. After some fiddling (and almost dropping the phone, twice), Shalltear managed to answer the call.

"Hello? Shalltear Bloodfallen speaking."

"Greetings, Shalltear Bloodfallen. Put the phone on speaker so I can speak with all current members of my counterpart's Peerage, bat." Replied a voice on the other end of the call, the voice definitely being female and the tone being very similar to a deadpan.

"Why should I?"

"I can erase you from existence from beyond your universe and you wouldn't know it was me. The only reason why I'm not doing so is because you, my counterpart and the rest of the Peerage entertain me for now and I want to see where your tale goes."

"Happy to be of service. But why are you even reaching out to us?"

"… in the words of a certain Radio Demon, 'Why does anyone do anything? Sheer, absolute boredom.'"

"What?"

"I have the power to observe and travel the multiverse if I felt like it, even if I wouldn't stay for long before starting to miss my mate."

"Mate?"

"The most beautiful woman in the multiverse that I can sincerely claim is the woman I'm happily married to and will without a doubt remain so."

"Good for you. Now, do you have any insight on what's going on and how we can fix Enuma's situation?"

"I might, but it's not my place to interfere with another universe. Besides, isn't it a lot more satisfying to figure it out yourself? That will be all, your phone will cease to exist soon. I wonder if Black Wing or Riley are up for a chat." Not even 10 seconds after Enuma's counterpart hung up on the phone, said device dissolved in motes of pale purple light. Leaving everyone in the room stumped.
