Encounter:
Hot and cold air gave way to roaring thunder as lightning struck the sky above her. Mid-day felt like evening as the grey clouds covered the sun. Rain went from a drizzle to a downpour as she entered her car.
The weather didn't help the bitterness gnawing at her heart. The memory of what she walked in to find still consumed her. Laughter and wet, sloppy moans replayed in her mind like a broken record. She had entered the apartment as silently as possible to surprise her husband with an early anniversary gift, only home earlier than expected because her boss had received advanced notice a month prior that she needed an early leave for today.
A soft moan caught her attention as a giggle followed. She had just begun to remove her flats when she heard the words that would destroy her entire marriage.
"Gray has no quirk?" Came a woman's voice.
She heard her husband laugh, "That's correct."
An all but familiar feeling settled within her body, her hands began to shake, and she felt her legs losing strength, her head becoming fuzzy, and her breath quickened- a panic attack. Gray refused to crumble in the face of betrayal- in the face of adultery. She was being cheated on in her own home!
The flats were back on instantly; she rushed out the door before the people in the next room could hear the sobs threatening to leave her mouth. The door was thrown open and slammed shut as she ran to find shelter to hide her emotional state. Married for less than a year, and her happily ever after was ruined. Gray couldn't help but wonder if the bastards had heard the door slam and gave a quiet sob before the tears escaped from her clouded eyed. Where was she going to go? Running out of the apartment's main entrance with her head held down low, she reached into her pocket to grab her keys.
A few months ago, her gut instinct had nagged at her that something was amiss. Her husband had been coming home late, and when he was home, he was glued to his phone, never laying it down- it had never left his hand. Some nights he would offer an apology when it would ring, claiming he had an important call to take. She'd smile and shake her head.
The wipers worked full speed to push the heavy downpour off the windshield. She was driving with no destination to find some relief from the pain in which she was drowning. It happened so fast that she barely had enough time to slam on the breaks before her car came to an abrupt stop- her head all but a few seconds from slamming into the steering wheel before she caught a grip- stopping the impact. The impact from the explosion had her black Focus sliding back. Another massive blast of blue flames made her dumbfounded- what was happening? If this day could get any worse! The next second, her windshield was shattering as someone was thrown through it. Red feathers prevented the glass from slicing her face, and large red wings encircled her defenseless form.
The rain, no longer shielding her, began to soak her entire body. Golden/brown eyes met her gray eyes, full of fear and determination. Hawk's face was attractive, but the impact of being thrown through her windshield had his left eye and part of his nose bleeding and dripping blood all over her clothing. Another explosion was directed toward them, and the car flew forward dangerously fast. She screamed as dozens of small feathers cut her from the seat belt, and strong arms pulled her out of the seat and away from the car.
Her body was up and in flight before she had time to process that her car had just been blown away. The speed at which his wings were going had the rain hitting her in the face enough to cause pain causing her to bury her face in his neck for protection.
"Wrap your legs around my waist, and don't let go." His voice ordered.
Gray watched in horror as the blue flames sent scalding fire toward them. The man groaned in pain as the fire assaulted his wings. The rain was messing with his ability to see. When he ensured you were wrapped tightly against his body, he increased his speed and flew higher into the sky. A scream escaped her when she could no longer see the ground below. All she could see was dark blue all around her. The man pulled her closer as he again used his quirk to increase his speed.
The speed at which he was flying had her shivering as the rain hit her- it almost felt like her skin was burning. She couldn't help but worry if this man knew what he was doing, much less if he could even see; she hadn't noticed before, but he was wearing yellow glass protecting his eyes against the rain and his speed. Upon his years were a matching set of headphones, and you could hear frantic voices in the background giving orders to evacuate citizens and expand the search.
Gray's eyes became heavy as exhaustion took over. She was tired; she was mentally drained. "Please get us to safety," she whispered in his ear as her eyes became heavy. He gave a slight smile, and she passed out.
