Prologue: When The Student Is Ready, The Master Appears.
Age: 746
The time was Dusk, the setting sun created a reddish glow over the mountain range know as Mount Paozu, a lush and beautiful land untouched by civilization. With good reason, for while this land was the near picture perfect image of paradise it was also quite dangerous. Within the forests surrouning the many mountains of the region were animals of all shapes and sizes, prey and predator alike. Mammals like deer, monkeys, wolves and saber-tooth tigers. As well as reptiles like alligators and dinosaurs.
With all these dangerous animals roaming the arena, very few people were brave enough to venture into this region. So it would come as a surprise to many to find a young boy at around 9 years old wandering through the woods. He was of very short stature even for his age, about 2'6ft tall with a bald head, beady black eyes and rather thick dark eyebrows, shaolin monk dots were etched on his forehead and oddly enough he had no nose. He was garbed in a yellow shaolin monk robe with no sleeves, a purple belt around his waist, orange pants and tan martial arts shoes. All of which were showing signs of wear and tear since he has been wandering the wilderness aimlessly for several weeks with little rest.
*Grumble*
The boy rubbed his empty stomach, he hadn't had a decent meal in days. "So hungry.." he moaned, his beady black eyes searching for anything edible. And when he found something his eyes lit up. Standing not too far away was a 30ft tall Red Delicious apple tree with all it's fruit ripe and ready to be plucked. The boy drooled at the glorious sight and thanked the heavens for his good fortune.
"Jackpot!" he cried out, scampering over to the tree. But just before he could begin to climb it-
*Growl*
The young monk froze when he heard saber-tooth tiger growl in the bushes nearby. He could practically feel it's hungry gaze on him and even heard it lick it's lips.
"N-Nice kitty?" he whimpered, trying in vain to placated the hungry big cat.
"RAAAGGHHH!" The saber-tooth leaped out of the bushes at great speed, fully intent on making a meal out of the boy.
"AAAHHH!" the short monk screamed in terror, frantically climbing up the tree with remarkable speed. His prior training at the Orin Temple combined with his short stature aided him well, allowing him to slip through the thick collection of branches and leaves with relative ease.
Meanwhile the big cat tried to climb after him, but the saber-tooth's much bigger frame made it much more difficult to catch his prey hiding behind all the branches and leaves. The tiger clawed, swiped and growled at the boy who remained just out of reach.
"Leave me alone!" the boy shouted, throwing a nearby apple right at the big cat's face with all his might.
*Smack*
The big cat was surprisingly knocked out of the tree and he landed on his side with a hard thud. The tiger picked himself off the ground, rubbing his now sore and wet forehead a bit dazed and very confused. Normally a animal as big and strong as he is would be able to easily shrug off a human child throwing an apple of all things at him.
But it was now clear to the saber-tooth that he was not dealing with an ordinary child, or human for that matter. The kid threw that apple harder than a major league baseball player could throw a record breaking fast ball. In fact, the hard fruit hit him in face so hard that it actually turned into paste the second it hit his skull.
"And there's a lot more where that came from!" the boy shouted, now trying to sound tough by grabbing another apple throw if need be.
The tiger looked up at the boy and would've growled angrily at his taunt, but his eyes widened in terror and he let out a shriek like a scared house cat before running away at top speed.
The boy blinked in surprise that he actually managed to scare the predator away. He then smiled and puffed out his chest triumphantly. "That's right you better run! That's what you get for thinking you can eat Krillin, the future greatest martial artist in the world!"
*Exhale*
Krillin's feeling of victory completely vanished when he felt a sudden gust of hot air that smelled like rotting flesh against his back. He then slowly turned his head to see what really scared off the tiger, a dark green and larger than normal T-Rex, it's face just inches away from the short monk. The tyrant lizard king's amber eyes stared right into Krillin's own horrified black eyes with a look of hunger.
'Aw crap.' was all Krillin could think.
*Chomp*
The giant reptile took big bite out of the tree, chewing up all the branches, leaves, fruit and human meat with a satisfied expression. Only for him to then become puzzled when he quickly realized that the taste of human meat was actually missing from his full mouth.
"MM?" the dinosaur hummed with titling his a little in confusion.
"AAAAHHH!"
The T-Rex turned his attention to the source of the scream and saw that Krillin had somehow managed to dodge his deadly jaws, and was now running as fast as his stubby legs could carry him, which was pretty fast to be honest. The boy was breaking Olympic records with how fast he was booking it.
The dinosaur spat out all the disgusting vegetation out of his mouth and gave chase after the human boy.
Krillin tried to lose the huge predator by running deeper into the woods, hoping that all the trees would either slow it down or stop it entirely due to the T-Rex's size. But bald youngster soon found this to be a useless tactic since this forest was the carnivore's home territory, so it moved through the trees with practiced ease and was quickly gaining on him.
"Must go faster!" Krillin said to himself, just barely managing to avoid another chomp from the T-Rex. "MUST GO FASTER!"
For over a minute the short monk ran with every fiber of his being and narrowly dodged the jaws of death, but he knew that he couldn't run forever. His lungs were burning and he could feel himself getting slower as the apex predator's bites were inching ever closer to him, eager to snack on his tiny body like a bite-sized cookie.
'WHATDOIDOWHATDOIDO WHAT DO I DO?!' Krillin screamed in his mind, ducking under yet another chomp from the dinosaur. He then spotted Redwood tree nearby, much bigger than the apple tree and with branches over 20ft high. That's when he had an idea. A crazy and desperate one to be sure, but it was his only chance.
"AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!" he roared at the top of his lungs as he ran with every bit of strength he had left towards the tree, greatly outpacing his pursuer for a few precious seconds. He then defied physics by running straight up it's trunk until he reached the lowest hanging branch and clung to it for dear life.
The T-Rex's eyes widened in astonishment at this sudden display of great athleticism and from the realization that he was now running straight at tree with a trunk wider then him at full speed.
*BAM*
The dinosaur ran face first into the tree, the impact leaving a comical imprint of his face in the trunk. The T-Rex stumbled around in a dizzy haze, his vision full of stars and it's walnut sized brain rattled from the impact.
Such a heavy hit caused the tree itself to shake greatly, enough so that the branch that Krillin was clinging to shook to and fro, the wooden limb creaking as it broke apart from each shake until-
*Snap*
"OH COME ON!" Krillin exclaimed exasperated as he fell, and landed right on top of the dizzy T-Rex's snout.
The dinosaur felt the boy land on his face which snapped him out of his stupor. He then growled at the boy before shaking his head to get him off so he could finally devour him.
"WHOAOWOWHAO!" Krillin cried out as he held on tight like a cowboy riding a wild stallion.
For over a minute the dinosaur tried to get the boy off his nose, but much to his annoyance the young monk held on like a tick. At this point he didn't even care if he got to eat the boy or not, now he just wanted him dead for being such a huge pain in the ass. That's when his attention turned back to the tree he slammed into earlier, his tiny brain cooking up a devious idea.
"I-Is the ride over mommy?" Krillin asked in a daze, all the shaking and whiplash leaving him dizzy. "Because I wanna get off."
The T-Rex chuckled at the boy's silly state and was looking forward to crushing him. He then got himself into a charging stance, kicked up some dirt like a bull before sprinting at the Redwood at full speed with a roar.
Krillin snapped out of his daze and quickly figured out what the dinosaur was planning to do, which made him hatch a devious plan of his own. He smirked, waiting until the very last second before impact, then he eased his grip and jumped straight into the air.
*BAM*
The T-Rex hit the exact same spot as he did last time, his face now completely stuck in the tree's trunk.
Krillin landed on the dinosaur's back and shouted "Yabba Dabba Doo!" as he slid down the tail like Fred Flintstone. When he stuck the landing, the short monk dusted off his hands and nodded proudly to himself. "Nailed it."
*Clap clap clap clap*
"Hm?" Krillin turned his attention to where that sudden clapping was coming from.
And much to his surprise he saw an old man standing over 100m away, who apparently saw the whole thing and was applauding the boy for his efforts. The old man was about 5'2ft tall with beady black eyes, a white bushy mustache, wearing an orange sleeveless jacket over a black Chinese martial arts uniform and a green hat with a white puff ball on the top.
"Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!" the old man complimented.
Krillin felt especially proud of himself now that he knew that he had an audience. "All in a days work!" he boasted with his fists on both sides of his waist like a superhero, only to then collapse to the ground as all the adrenaline wore off and his exhaustion hit all at once.
The old man stopped his clapping and said in soft, wise voice that still carried over in spite of the distance between them."But it seems you wasted all your energy, foolish. Especially since your opponent still has plenty to spare."
"Huh?" Krillin looked back at the T-Rex who was struggling to get his face unstuck.
*Pop*
The tyrant lizard king freed himself and shook himself off like a dog. He growled hatefully at Krillin, who was now petrified in terror and too tired to run anymore.
"Alright, that's enough." the old man stated casually, now standing between the boy and the angry dino.
"What the?!" Krillin looked back and forth at the old man and the place he was standing literally a second ago. 'How did he get over here so fast?!'
"The boy has clearly had enough for today. So how about we all just go our separate ways in peace."
"ARE YOU CRAZY OLD MAN?!"
The dinosaur actually agreed with the boy, staring at the strange old man in confusion for actually thinking he could convince the tyrant lizard king to leave after everything the little brat had put him through. But he ultimately didn't think too much of it and figured that he could just eat them both. So with a roar the T-Rex charged again, this time confident that he will have both his meal and revenge, with some foolish old man as nice little bonus snack.
"*Sigh* Why does nobody ever listen to reason nowadays?" the old man lamented, clapping his hands together like he was praying. His hands then glowed blue for a split second before-
*FWOOSH*
He thrust his right hand forward at supersonic speed, the sheer kinetic energy released from the strike combined with his Ki unleashed a powerful gale force of wind that sent the T-Rex flying, his back slamming against the Redwood so hard that the tree toppled over with a mighty slam that shook the ground.
The T-Rex slowly got back on his now shaky feet, his eyes wide open in terror at the old man's display of incredible power. And the apex predator felt like a hatching before his parents when he saw the stern glare elderly warrior was giving him.
"Shoo." the old man commanded, to which the dinosaur obeyed without hesitation.
Krillin's jaw hit the floor as he stared at the old man with complete shock and awe. "It..it's you..!"
"Hm?" the elder turned his attention back to the young man he just saved. "What was that?"
"MASTER ROSHI!" the young monk exclaimed, bowing low before the great master in reverence. "I can not tell you what an honor it is to be in your presence! My name is Krillin! And I've been searching all over the world for you in the hopes that you might take me on as your pupil! Please master! Accept me as your student! Teach me how to become a great warrior like you!"
The old man blinked in surprise at the youngsters groveling, before guffawing. "Hahaha! I'm afraid you're mistaken young man. I'm not Master Roshi, though I'm flattered that you might think so. My name is Son Gohan."
Krillin raised his head, his eyes now full of puzzlement as he stared at the smiling old man. "W-What? B-But..if you're not Roshi, then how are you so strong?"
"Well I may not be the master himself, but I was a student of his for many years." Gohan explained, face full of fond nostalgia. "But once I learned everything he could teach me, I set off to learn from all of what the rest of the world had to offer in order to develop my own style." His expression then turned more solemn as he then said "But time is the one opponent nobody can beat. So, a little over a decade ago I retired to this mountain range to live out the rest of my days in quiet solitude."
"Woah.." While the short monk was a bit disappointed that he wasn't meeting the grand master himself, he couldn't deny that Gohan was clearly in a league of his own when it came to martial arts mastery.
"And I must say again dear boy, you were quite impressive in the way you handled yourself today." Gohan said with warm smile.
Krillin blushed at the old master's compliment. "R-Really?"
"Indeed." Gohan nodded. "Not many people over twice your age can hold there own against a full grown T-Rex and live to tell the tale." An idea then popping into the old master's head. "What was your name again?"
"Krillin."
"Well Krillin, would you like for me to teach you what I know in the ways of martial arts?"
The short monk's eyes lit up with glee. "WOULD I?!"
"Would you?" Gohan asked with a cheeky grin.
"I-I mean yes! Yes I would love to learn from you!"
*Grumble*
Krillin rubbed his still empty tummy and Gohan let out a slight chuckle. "Come along then my boy. I'll take you to my home and cook us up some dinner. Then we can discuss your training in further detail."
"Yes sir!" the short monk followed after his new master, eager to get started.
(Cue Dragon Ball Opening Theme Song: English Version)
All 7 Dragon Balls floated among the stars, before flying past Earth's sun at near light speed. A flare of solar fire from the star took the shape of a roaring dragon before it dived back into sun's ever burning surface. The title of the series Dragon Ball then appeared next to the sun.
Find those Dragon Balls! Look out for 'em all!
We then find Krillin on Earth, smiling as he picked up the 4 Star Dragon Ball from the small shine on top of a mountain that he found it.
You can search around the world with me.
He then heard Bulma calling out to him from down the mountain, saying that she picked up the next Ball on her Dragon Radar.
Gotta heed the call of magic Dragon Balls!
Krillin's smile widened as he jumped off the mountain, free falling towards his beautiful friend as the Nimbus Cloud followed after him.
What a great adventure this will be.
Krillin was caught by the magic cloud and he rode it down the rest of the way. Then he swooped Bulma off her feet, carrying her safely in his arms as they flew off to next adventure together, smiling and laughing all the way as they did.
You can climb on board, cause the Nimbus doesn't wait!
A fantastic journey for your dreams-a thrilling mystery!
A 3 second montage of Krillin punching, kicking and whacking bad guys with the Power Pole played to the beat of the music, before we cut away to our heroes traveling across a vast desert. Krillin was riding the Nimbus while Bulma, Chi-Chi and Oolong were following close behind in a hover car.
Through the fires of time, they've waited patiently.
But not too far away from the gang of adventures, the desert bandit Yamcha and his shapshifting cat Puar were in hot pursuit of the gang on his own hover bike. The young warrior had a determined gleam in his eye for his own wish he desired to have granted.
When all seven balls you find, the Dragon is set free.
We then cut Master Roshi riding on top of Turtle across the ocean, Kame House right behind him as he flashed a peace sign to the camera and Launch waved hello from the front window with a radiant smile.
Rising, rising, mesmerizing, unbridled ecstasy.
The sky turned darker than night and an enormous beam of light pierced the sky in an epic display of divine magic energy.
Radiant and shining, hidden somewhere in the field.
The beam then came to life, twisting and coiling until it took the shape of the great Eternal Dragon himself, Shenron, who awaited to grant the wish of whoever gathered the Dragon Balls.
Luminous and blinding, with your desires revealed.
We then cut to back Krillin soaring through the sky on top of his trusty cloud, grinning as he searched the world for his next adventure.
Ageless, timeless, what you'll find is beyond belief!
Clouds in the sky, the vast ocean below soon turning to land as it all past by the young hero at incredible speed.
Let's try, try, try, look high and low!
A jet plane piloted by Bulma, with the rest of his friends riding along in the passenger seats came up to fly beside him. The short monk waved at his friends who waved back in return.
Search the sky and the sea below!
Krillin then saw that he was flying over Mount Paozu, he spotted Master Gohan sitting just outside his hut enjoying a cup of tea.
Let's try, try, try, seize the day!
Krillin smiled widely as he steered his cloud to fly right over to his father figure. The old master saw his pupil coming and smiled, holding up his free hand into the air.
And make new friends along the way!
Krillin leaned down to slap his master's hand in a high-five, before soaring back into the sky to rejoin his friends in their search for the Dragon Balls.
Find those Dragon Balls! Look out for 'em all!
Pilaf and his minons Mai and Shu piloted a 100ft giant robot, the ego-maniacal imp laughing as he fired all the weapons on his war machine in all directions to obliterate his enemies.
Come and hunt those Dragon Balls with me.
Bulma, Chi-Chi, Oolong, Puar and Yamcha all frantically ran for cover from Pilaf's giant robot, bobbing and waving through any bullets and missiles aimed at them.
Gotta heed the call of magic Dragon Balls!
Krillin meanwhile fearlessly flew straight at the giant robot, armed with only his Power Pole and letting out loud battle cry as he prepared to face the wannabe tyrant head-on.
What a great adventure this will be.
All of Krillin's companions saw his display of courage, and were emboldened by his example. They then all armed themselves with what weapons they had on them. Bulma drew her pistol, Yamcha unsheathed his sword, Chi-Chi prepared to throw her boomerang blade, Oolong transformed in a red ogre while Puar turned into spiked club for the shapeshifting pig to wield. And together they charged at full speed to follow the short warrior into battle.
Set a course for action, adventure doesn't wait!
Krillin used his magical staff to deflect any bullets aimed at him or his friends before jumping off his Nimbus to slam his Power Pole against the protective glass around Pilaf's cockpit. The short warrior grinned at the imp's expression of terror and prepared to deliver the final blow to end Pilaf's plans of world domination once and for all.
A fantastic journey for your dreams-a thrilling mystery!
