Desi wore her casual clothing of blue jeans with a black V-neck shirt and an army green bomber jacket, slipping on her black combat boots before she joined everyone outside the compound. True to Tony's word, Desi saw a black suburban parked outside and smiled widely when she saw Happy in the front seat as the driver.
"Oh my god, Happy! How are you?" Desi asked, sitting in the front passenger seat.
"Whoa, whoa! You don't want to sit back there with them?" Happy questioned; no one ever sat him with him in the front seat.
Desi looked over in the back seat to see Tony, Steve, and Bucky looking over at her, but she flashed them a smile before she looked back to Happy.
"And leave you alone? No way! Now, what are we listening to?" Desi questioned as Happy drove off.
"No music!" Tony exclaimed but Desi ignored him when she turned on the radio.
Desi gasped loudly when she heard Ed Sheran music play through the audio, making Happy smiled excitedly.
"Oh my god, Two-Step! You're an Ed Sheran fan!?" Desi questioned.
"Yeah, wait- you are too?" Happy asked, and Desi nodded excitedly.
"Hell yeah!" Desi exclaimed.
Desi began to sing with the song, and Happy slowly started to sing the song with her.
Tony rolled his eyes in annoyance, but he was pleased to know that Desi had a good voice; the same couldn't be said about Happy.
Buck and Steve watched her through the rearview mirrors as she along without a care in the world; that part of her that they adored about her. The rest of the ride was singing to random songs until they reached the headquarters.
Pulling up, Desi thanked Happy before she climbed out of the car. Desi took a deep breath when she saw the building again for the first time in half a year, sad memories replaying in her head. Desi was grateful the guys were with her but she had grown since she was last heard. She would not cower.
Tony led the way with Steve and Bucky remaining close to her when they walked into the building, and Desi held her head up high; she deserved to be here as much as them and she proved herself several times over whether the agents accepted that or not.
Unbeknownst to Desi, Bastion and Cole stood in their SHIELD bodysuits, watching as she walked into the lobby with the Avengers around her. The two looked at each other before looking back at Desi once more. She had lost so much weight and her eyes had lost some of her spark, but her smile was still the same; she had changed.
"Is that…Destiny? She…looks good."
"That demon is still alive?"
"She hasn't been cleared as an Avenger, why is she with them?"
Bucky and Steve could hear the comments, Tony irritated to hear the way they spoke about her; was this what she dealt with last time?
"Of course, all the elevators are busy…" Tony said with a heavy sigh.
"Hey, Destiny!"
Desi was alarmed when she felt a firm grip on her forearm force you to turn. Desi quickly grabbed the hand and spun the person, pinning them over in response without hesitation.
"Whoa, whoa, it's me! John Walker!"
Desi blinked when she saw the vaguely familiar face and rolled her eyes as she released him.
"John…" Desi spoke, Bucky and Steve alerted when they heard the strain in her voice.
"You look…wow. You look amazing! How have you been?" John asked, flashing her a grin.
"Good." Desi said shortly, as she crossed her arms in annoyance, wanting to keep their conversation short.
"Great! You know, I must say, you look amazing since the last time I saw you!" John spoke.
"Thanks, that's kind of you to say," Desi spoke, "but I really need to go. We have a meeting with Fury."
"Wait, before you go," John spoke, "I was wanting to know if I could get your number? Take you out for a drink sometime?"
Bucky's jaw clenched, narrowing his eyes dangerously.
"No but thank you." Desi said before she spun around, but John grabbed her hand as forced her around.
Bucky and Steve approached her, allowing Desi to enough time to read him.
"Come on, don't play hard to get-"
Bucky grabbed John roughly by the collar, standing protectively in front of Desi as John attempted to get close, forcefully yanking John's hand from hers.
"Don't touch her." Bucky threatened, narrowing his eyes with a deadly stare on John.
"Oh, are you two an item?" John asked, smirking as he looked over him, "Well, well: The assassin and the healer. Talk about opposite attracting…"
"Are you alright?" Steve asked, noticing Desi's alarmed yet horrified look on her face and saw her clenching her hands.
Desi shook her head, but Steve knew her well enough that she was trying to control herself. He glanced over to Tony, the elevators were still not down yet, and looked back down to Desi once more, offering his arm to her.
"Show me." Steve whispered as Tony pulled the super soldier from John.
Desi hesitated for a moment before she placed her hand on his forearm, allowing Steve to see what she saw. She showed visions of John teasing Desi during her training, a vision of John asking about wanting to join a potential super soldier program, another more recent vision of the Avengers compound looking to transfer and hire personnel exclusively for them with John on top of the list, but Steve was angered when Desi showed him a vision of John making out and aggressively groping her in the lobby.
"You only get one warning." Bucky spoke, even more annoyed.
"Oh, I get it now. She's with the Captain, isn't she?" John questioned in a low voice, "Careful, looks like you might be more invested than he is.
John had attempted to look over him to Desi when Steve stood in front of John's sight, protecting her from his sight.
"I think that's enough. Let's not make any future scenes here." Steve said sternly.
"The elevator is here, come on." Tony spoke, breaking the tension between them.
"Come." Bucky spoke softly, wasting no time placing a hand on Desi's mid back as he guided her to the elevator with Steve close behind as he gave John one last glance. The elevator ride was quiet for a moment before Bucky finally spoke.
"What did you see?" Bucky asked, throwing a glance to her.
"I don't know if it's classified or not but…" Desi spoke softly, offering her hands. Bucky took off his glove and took her hand as Tony wasted no time, always curious about secrets. Steve placed a hand on her wrist, and Desi smiled before she played wheat she saw earlier.
John was being trained in preparation for a super soldier program that was attempting to be funded, wanting John to be similar or the next Captain America. There was an announcement given of the Avenger's Compound construction was completed and the Avengers would be the ones to select who was the best people to join them on the compound. John applied but when he saw the list of the Avenger's he saw the familiar name of Destiny "Mercy" and waited for her.
"Show Bucky the last image." Steve told her, noticing her eyes widen.
"What image?" Bucky asked.
"No, I can't-"
"He deserves to know. You tell him, or I will." Steve proclaimed.
Desi sighed and pouted but pushed the memory forward. Desi showed him a vision of John glancing over her body, imaging himself making out and aggressively groping her in the lobby in front of everyone before he approached her. Tony made a disgusted look, but saw the way Buck's jaw clenched, his eyes glaring hard on Desi when she released their hands.
"I'll kill him."
"No, Bucky, don't." Desi spoke.
"Is this public knowledge?" Steve asked Tony.
"This is the first I know about it, but if they're attempting to fund it, we will know about it soon." Tony spoke softly.
The elevator door chimed before the doors slowly slid open, revealing two agents awaiting them. The team was escorted through the hallway, towards the end of hallway where a conference room with double doors, the walls heavily tinted that nothing could be seen or outlined. The agents opened the door for them, revealing a U-shaped table with chairs presented with Fury and Agent Hill standing there.
Desi smiled when she saw Deadpool tied up at the end of the table, with a gag over his mouth. Surprised was an understatement. More like concerned, because she knew damn well, he could break out of here, but kept her mouth shut for his sake.
"Thank you for joining us, please have a seat." Agent Hill spoke.
"I'm glad you could join us; I was hoping you'd come." Fury said as Desi and the team walked into the room.
"Of course, Fury. I did start off as your agent, after all." Desi said, Steve and Bucky standing with her with Tony sitting in the chair in front of Desi.
"I'm afraid I'm going to need you to share your memories of Barnes from when we first met, the voices you heard were Hydra." Fury said, crossing his arms.
"I'll share what I can, but I won't overshare." Desi said as she approached him.
Fury offered Desi his right hand and took it into hers. She closed her eyes and showed him selective memories and voices, ensuring he didn't hear the activation words from the Winter Soldier. As soon as she pulled away, he nodded to her when she backed away from him.
"Thanks, I appreciate that." He spoke.
"It's not like you to call us down here, it must be pretty important. And I kept help but notice the man in his pajamas again." Tony said, still being cautious.
"You're right, it is. There are multiple issues that we need to discuss, starting with issues tied to you Destiny." Hill stated, making Desi let out a heavy breath.
"Let's start small then, yes?" Desi asked with a smile, hoping it wasn't anything serious.
"First one is simple. Your friend here broke in and managed to wipe your records, so it's as if you never existed." Hill stated.
"Which means…"
"Which means you were never born," Fury stated, catching Desi by surprise, "I haven't decided if it's a good thing or a bad thing."
"What do you mean? Can't you just pull it back up; surely there's a trace of me somewhere."
"Can we go back to the good or bad thing, first? Explain this part to us." Tony interrupted.
Fury looked to Hill with a concerned look in his face, before he finally spoke, "We were asked to bring you in for interrogation. There has been talks of either conscripting you to join the Avengers…or send you to The Raft."
"She's just a kid." Tony said, but Desi was a loss of words.
"T-The prison…?" Desi questioned; what did she do to deserve that?
"We'll make sure it won't come to that." Steve assured her, but didn't help, the sadness and fear still evident on her face.
"I'm afraid there'd be nothing you can do," Fury stated as he slowly approached them, Bucky immediately pulling her back behind him protectively, but Fury held his hands up in surrender, "but since her file is gone, we'd have to build a whole rep sheet on her."
"So, what are you recommending? You know she isn't a threat." Steve said but Fury looked at him with an unamused glare.
"Need I remind you that our little Mercy here is now Archangel? The vids and the reports we once had of all her crimes with this man are now gone. Now, there's a way to avoid all of this…" Fury suggested, making Desi worrisome still.
"What is it?" Bucky asked.
"We can look past from her past crimes and any future…vigilante jobs as long as she agrees to join SHIELD once more- as an Avenger." Fury offered, "We'd keep her record sponged, and you can pick a new name if you'd like."
"Wait, so, I can still do both?" Desi asked, smiling happily.
"You still want to work with this man?" Fury questioned, waving his hand over to Deadpool and she nodded enthusiastically.
Wade broke his chains as he stood, unflinching as Hill aimed her gun at him when he took off his gag.
"Honestly kid, I was sweating for a moment but don't worry; I have lots of shenanigans for us to do. Weasel won't admit it, but that bitch misses you." Wade said, making her chuckle.
"You've always been a handful…" Hill muttered but Bucky caught it.
"Wait, you knew about him?" Bucky asked.
"A few months ago, we had found Destiny after one of her missions. Turns out they went up against SHIELD agents, and we sent men to collect her, but her friend here wasn't fond of us bringing her back."' Hill explained.
"Wait, you knew about this?" Steve questioned, upset that he didn't know about this sooner.
"Why do you think you got the mission to meet Weasel? Any agent could have done that," Hill pointed out, "we had just hoped if she met you again, she'd come running. It was our error, but it was our only way to hopefully get her back."
"Well, we have her. Now, what's the next issue?" Tony asked him, wanting to avoid making Desi upset.
"We have an assignment for you, Barnes, and Steve. We found intel on some weapon dealings that may be nuclear, but we will need to discuss that in private. Nat and Bruce will be heading to another location where they may be held but you will on the second location." Fury explained.
"We'll be happy to help, but what hasn't been discussed is this news I heard about us hiring personnel. Was that something you failed to mention?" Tony questioned.
"We were hoping to do all that with Destiny the hiring selections. Who better to know who's Hydra or a spy then Desi herself? Plus, you're welcome to include some of the Avengers to take part in it." Agent Hill pointed out.
"Is she free to use then? I could really use her today for some…work." Wade asked, receiving a glare from the people in the room.
"What kind of work?" Fury questioned, which only made Wade sigh heavily.
"Some asswipe has some intel about Hydra, that same group you're hunting. Seems they're trying to recruit from out of state; what do you say, Rapunzel?"
Desi smiled, but nodded in agreement, "Hell yeah, I 'm in."
"It can't be just the two of you." Bucky cut in.
"I agree, it's too risky." Steve said, but Fury held his hand up from further explanation.
"Deadpool has the been the one most successful in gathering the intel for us, I have confidence in them," Fury told them, "But I'd like to send someone with you. Hawkeye, the man never misses a shot, and you could use that."
"I work alone, sorry. This kid is the only one I allow." Deadpool said, making her roll her eyes.
"I'm not a kid, you know." Desi whined but was fruitless when walked towards the door.
"Send the info to my contact, will you? We'll leave in tomorrow morning."
"Wait, what about your vacation?" Desi questioned.
"Oh no, it's still going. Trust me, this mission will be quick." Wade said unfazed, waving her off as he left the room.
"Fine, next issue…"
By the time the meeting was over, it was night and drive was silent. The meeting itself took longer than it needed to be, but things were happening too fast. Desi was nearly starving but she needed to rest for her big day tomorrow.
After taking a long-needed shower and packing her bag for her big trip tomorrow, Desi needed to check on Bucky. Approaching Bucky's door, she knocked but there was no response. Hoping he finally got a chance to rest, she went into the common room with her bag when she saw Steve sitting there, rummaging through the kitchen.
"Can't sleep?" Steve asked out loud.
"Yeah…something like that." Desi said with a smile, leaning against the counter.
"Neither could Bucky, he had me in the sparring room all day." Steve said, finally facing Desi.
Desi immediately gasped when she saw his bruises on his arms and face and approached him. She held out her hand to him, which he rolled his eyes playfully before he placed his large hand on hers. Desi was quick to heal over him and he took a deep breath, enjoying the feel of her healing once more.
"Is everything okay?" Desi asked, concerned.
"Buck is worried about you, that's all. We sparred to let him calm down a bit." Steve told her.
"He knows I'll be with Wade though." Desi responded.
"He knows. I think it's because it's out of his control. I tried my best to assure him, but…"
"What do you think?" Desi asked him, wanting his honest opinion.
"Based on what I've seen, I'm not a fan of Wade's approach on things. It leaves you vulnerable…I'll admit that I'm worried about you." Steve answered, brushing a thumb over her hand.
Desi blushed at his sudden gesture, but she could feel his concern; he was trying to assure himself that she'd be fine.
"I'll take all the precautions, I promise. Every decision I make I will think first, 'What would Captain do?'" Desi promised, squeezing his hand one last time before he slowly removed his hand.
"I would appreciate that…You might want to check on Bucky again in a moment. I imagine he won't get any sleep tonight." Steve admitted, missing her cool hands.
"Fine, but you'll have to be the one to cuddle with him while I'm gone." Desi teased.
Steve made a scrunched face, "Any chance you can stay?"
"Nope, sorry! Just give him Chewy at that point." Desi exclaimed before giggling, making Steve chuckle in response.
"Good night, Steve." She said softly, backing away towards the bedroom hallways.
"Good night, Desi." He said just as soft, watching her leave.
Desi walked back towards Bucky's room when she saw him leaving her bedroom door, his eyes locked onto hers.
"Buck." Desi said with a smile, glad to finally see him. Buck walked over to her and picked her up over his shoulder, causing her to yelp as he brought her back to her bedroom. He closed the door behind him before he threw her on her bed, making her yelp in surprise. Desi couldn't help but giggle, but immediately froze when Bucky leaned over her, his mouth breathing against hers as he dove his hand into her hair.
"I'm going to be okay, Buck." Desi assured him, resting a hand against his cheek.
"I should be there with you," Bucky told her, "But I get it. Just…listen to Wade and stay close to him."
"I will, I promise." Desi told him.
Bucky searched her eyes before he pressed his lips gently against hers tenderly. He was going to worry and miss her, but this was something that she needed to do.
"Can I stay here tonight?" Bucky asked Desi. She smiled and nodded, watching him as he rolled off her, laying down beside her. Bucky scooped her body against him, burying his nose into her neck as he took in her scent.
Morning had come when Desi woke up, and had quickly sat up, slipping on her shoes when Buck walked into her room. She quickly noticed in his hand that he was holding her duffle bag, and she smirked.
"I put my jacket in there for you…are you ready?" he asked her as she finally stood.
"No, but I'll be thinking of you each second that I'm away." Desi confessed.
Bucky nodded before he placed a peck on her lips. "Stay safe."
"I will."
Leaving on her bike, Desi made her way to the Hell House where Wade and Vanessa were outside with Weasel. A smile crept on her face once more before she side hugged the two men, she came close to but Vanessa fully embraced her, catching her by surprise.
"Wade has told me all about you; thank you for looking out for him." She whispered.
"He looked out for me too. I was happy to do so." Desi said, smiling before she pulled away from his girlfriend.
"Wade said you have a boyfriend. Where is he? I'd love to meet him." Vanessa asked, glad to have a female to talk with.
"He's out preparing for his own mission as well, but I'd love for you to meet him afterwards. His name is Bucky."
"Holy shit, he finally got you, huh? Fuckin' finally." Weasel exclaimed as he took her duffle bag, loading up the van as he did before.
"We only just started yesterday; I think-"
"You think?" Vanessa asked, "Walk it through with me, honey."
"Well, he was excited to hear that I was staying at the compound with him and the others. And…we kissed, and well…I woke up having to go to the SHIELD headquarters and we slept together last night too. Just small banter to be safe, gave me his jacket but sent me off: that's it really. Oh, and, he said he wanted to take me out on a date?"
"Oh honey, I know there was flirting before but in today's day and age, he might just want to have sex. He might like you but…there must be some type of exclusiveness, or maybe a declaration. Don't give yourself too easily from here on out, okay?" Vanessa warned her, making her frown.
"I-I knew about that, but I guess, I let my guard down. You're right, I'll be more careful." Desi said, accepting her advice.
"Yeah, maybe date around. Maybe jump on that Captain America guy…he's got a great looking ass." Deadpool chimed in but Desi groaned as Vanessa took her towards the van.
"So, mind telling me how you two met?" Desi asked, Vanessa climbing after her.
"Oh, are you in a for a shit show." Vanessa said, flashing her a wink before Wade took the driver's side of the car; oblivious to watchful eyes on them.
Tony, Steve, and Bucky were preparing to leave when Thor's roaring came crashing down. To say they were surprised was an understatement when he stepped out with Loki; with a collar on him and chained as before.
"You wanna explain to me why Reindeer Games is here?" Tony questioned straight to the point.
"Before you disagree, let me explain," Thor told them, "It seems my brother has had a chance to atone for his crimes. Only if the people of Midgard will allow him, of course; hence the chains."
"Yeah, no chance of that happening." Tony declared.
"There's too many risks and variables of why this won't work. This isn't the best time; we are mostly out on mission as well." Steve explained.
"What of Lady Destiny, is she not available?" Thor questioned, piquing Loki's curiosity.
"She left on her own mission with that Deadpool guy; doing a mission for us." Bucky said simply.
"That's most unwise. Where is she, so I may assist her?" Thor asked but Tony waved his hand to him.
"We have a tracker on her, we will go only if she needs us; we need to trust her. This one though…" Tony muttered.
"Let's leave this for a group decision, shall we?" Thor declared with a smile before guiding Loki towards the compound.
"Let's finish this quickly, shall we?" Tony stated, not liking the thought of Loki in the compound.
"Agreed."
Over the next several days and taking Vanessa somewhere safe, they finally reached their location, but Desi was nervous. Wearing her suit from Deadpool's collection, she put on her full mask on. Hydra was not something she wanted to mess with or bring attention to herself.
The memory of Bucky's stare, Steve's stern look, and even Tony's clouded her head; she needed to be smart right now more than ever. Deadpool was his usual chatty self, playing music for them as they blasted their way into the warehouse in the middle of the night.
"Surprise, bitches! Donde esta la biblioteca?" Wade said ritually before he sprang into action.
Desi whipped out her staff before she fought her way through, careful to harm anyone too much…until bullets came her way.
"Ah, shit!" she shouted, throwing up her barrier before they went to reload. Not taking a chance, she changed it as a disk and threw it, noticing them knocked back as Deadpool finished them off.
"Do me a favor and get to work on those files for me, will you, sidekick?" He asked of her.
"Will do, cover me." Desi responded, sliding through them as she made her way towards the end of the room.
Desi casted a shield over herself as she went to work, despite the bullets hitting her and explosions behind her, when she saw Deadpool's body land beside her.
"Pool!"
"I…I'm good. Just need a moment." He said but she realized he was blown to pieces.
This was not going to be minute.
"Files are downloading, be sure to, uh, pull yourself together." Desi said, chuckling as she turned to face the remaining men.
"Ah, that's funny. A pun…you grew up so fast," Wade jested but he had no choice but to wait for his regeneration to work, "can you handle them for now?"
"We'll find out, won't we?" Desi said, taking out her grenade launcher from her back, firing relentlessly.
Despite the chaos, more of them kept coming and Desi couldn't help but feel a deep pit on her stomach.
"This might not be a meeting spot; I think this is their housing." Desi realized.
"Well, fuck me!"
Desi took a deep breath before the bullets came flying to her, casting her shield as she charged her way towards them. She deflected as best she could, fighting her way through the men. Knocking some of them out cold, she realized she was getting quickly overwhelmed.
A large man jumped behind her and kicked her, throwing her through a column with debris falling over her. Desi groaned, coughing violently as she struggled to get up when the man threw a large chunk of the wall at her.
"Desi!" She could've sworn she heard a familiar voice…
Blood drained from her face as she panicked, thunder rupturing from the sky above her when a large mass landed in front of her.
"Astros?" Desi called out but was just as surprised when an arrow flew past her. Looking over her shoulder, her eyes widened when she saw a familiar face.
"Hawkeye?"
"Glad you're still alive. Can you get out of there?" he said, hearing his smile through the comms he was able to tap into.
"Y-Yeah, just a moment."
Astros didn't give her a moment when his horn glowed, the debris floating off her as she was finally able to get up.
"Thank you." Desi whispered, giving him a kiss on his nose before she got on him.
"You have men coming from behind you." Bucky's voice came through the comms; how many people were on the comms?
"Good call, metal man." Tony's voice also came through; what?
"Clear the way for him, will you, darling?" …Was that Loki's voice?
Desi shot another grenade launcher near his direction, clearing the area for him before she landed beside him, offering her hand.
"Here, get on Astros!" Desi exclaimed.
Clint took her hand without thinking twice. Taking off to sky, Desi realized that Deadpool was back up fighting and stirred Astros downward.
"Don't be a hero." Steve's voice came through the comm.
"But it's what Captain would do," Desi said softly, "Protect him for me will you, Astros?"
Before Clint could stop her, Desi slid off as she shouted with her staff out. Landing on the large man from earlier, Desi used her staff to choke him out, grunting loudly as she leaned back to stir him.
Deadpool cleared his way to her, slaying the man quickly before escorting her back to the computers from the inside; they had a job to finish.
Desi casted her shield as she finished her download, retrieving her USB before she went back outside. Wade had the van pulled up as bodies were laid out all around them, but Desi was used to seeing dead bodies at this point now; thanks to him.
"Call in SHIELD here, will we?" Clint ordered in the comms, but Desi stopped when she saw the large man earlier still moving.
"Well fuck me sideways, he's still alive; easy fix." Deadpool chimed in but Desi held her hand up to stop him.
"Give me a moment…" Desi said, taking off her gloves.
Clint grabbed her arm, forcing her still as she looked up at him questionably.
"If you do what I think you're going to do…you don't know what you'll see. Or how it'll affect you." Clint warned her but she flashed him a concerned look.
"We can't get ahead of them, and something's seemed off since our trip to the headquarters. We don't have days…if I can get us ahead of it. An advantage of some kind, I should…Let me, please." Desi asked of him.
"Let her," Wade intervened, "but pull her away if it becomes too much."
"How will we know?" Clint questioned.
"Trust me, you'll know. She's a little spitfire, she won't listen anyways." Wade answered.
Clint looked down at the man before looking to Desi with concern, but her contagious smile melted away his concern…a little bit.
"Do it, I'll watch over you."
She smiled gently to him with a gentle nod to match her gratitude, kneeling by the man's severed calves, placing her hand on his exposed thigh. Letting out a loud grunt, she hissed as she was pulled into flashes of memories.
She saw a blonde woman, a SHIELD suit, the Hydra look.
Desi let out a whimper, biting her lower lip painfully as she felt the pain of this guy…
"Super-soldier…" Desi whispered. Clint immediately kneeled beside her, the comms blowing up with questions, but Deadpool told them to shut up to listen carefully.
"A blond woman… 'Carter', SHIELD bodysuit. HYDRA. This man is a super-soldier…" she said when more flashes came through.
"Agent Rumalow? Alexander Pierce? They're-"
Desi let out a painful scream, Wade gripping her arm to keep her steady.
"Deep breaths, kid. Remember, it's not your pain." He remembered her.
Desi fought through the pain as best she could, seeing flashes of numerous cars, agents, helicopters. SHIELD system rigged for Hydra to use.
"I know those men…what of them, Desi?" Desi could hear Steve's voice.
"Takeover…Hydra…" Desi muttered, "Using SHIELD systems as their own- they're…killing top agents…"
"What?"
"Planning to take Fury next…they're making super-soldiers, but they can't perfect it." Desi said, trying to pull her hand away.
Clint noticed cuts on her face appear, and grasped her forearm, "Hey, you're pushing yourself."
"Help me…" Desi whimpered, and Clint pulled her away immediately.
Desi felt lightheaded but she needed to get the USB back, and fast.
"I'll take her back on the horse; will you be, okay?" Clint asked Deadpool.
"Yeah, get the kid out of here; I'll wait for SHIELD. I'll destroy the computers or anything salvageable for those little shits." Deadpool answered.
Clint merely nodded as Astros kneeled for them to get on, Desi leaning back against Clint as she felt lightheaded, the pain still coursing through her body. Making his way through the sky, Clint was simply amazed how fast they were going but realized they were close to a special place for him, and steered Astros as Desi laid passed out on him.
When Desi woke up, she realized they arrived in an open field with a small home. Desi immediately recognized it as a farmhouse, similar to the one she grew up in herself. Upon landing, Clint walked out with Desi following behind him, smiling when she saw two small children running towards them.
"I'd like for you to meet someone important to me, and you need to recover." Clint whispered. Landing onto the ground, Astros kneeled as before, allowing the duo to get off the horse easily. Placing Desi on her feet, he wrapped an arm tightly around her shoulder.
"Mom, it's dad! He brought a friend!" The little girl yelled, the little boy hugging Clint's leg, the little girl hugging her father as he patted the top of her head.
Desi smiled, thinking of her family, but she knew this wasn't the time and place for her to cry, but she did miss her brother's more than anything. She remembered meeting her dad like this in the mornings when she was a child…
"Dad, who's this?" the little girl asked with a curious look on her face.
"Lila, this is Destiny. Destiny, this is Lila my daughter." Clint spoke, introducing them.
"Hey there, Lila." Desi said with a smile.
"Hi, you're pretty." Lila complimented her.
"Awe, thank you. And you're even more pretty, I love your pigtails." Desi complimented her back.
"It's too long, though." Lila spoke, but Desi giggled.
"That's long to you? Do you want to see mine?" Desi asked.
"Why, is it longer?" Lila asked and Desi smiled slowly with a fake pout.
"Oh yeah, here!" Desi undid her hair and Lila gasped when she saw Desi's hair land underneath her butt.
"Oh my god, dad! Look!" Lila screamed.
"Your hair isn't that long now, is it?" Clint chuckled, glad to see his daughter clicked with her.
"And who's this little guy?" Desi asked, noticing the little boy staring at her.
"This is my son, Cooper. Cooper, this is Destiny." Clint introduced them.
"Hello, nice to meet you." Cooper said, smiling at Desi.
"Hey Cooper, nice to meet you also." Desi spoke.
"Honey?"
Desi looked up as Clint stood up, seeing a pretty woman standing at the doorway of the home. The woman approached them, smiling sweetly when she approaches them, her eyes darting between Desi and Clint.
"Oh, Destiny, this is the person I wanted you to meet the most," Clint spoke as he approached his wife, "Destiny, this is Laura, my wife."
"Wait, this is 'The' Destiny?" Laura questioned, remembering her husband mentioning her; and she received a nod from him.
"It's a pleasure to meet you." Desi said with a smile, offering her hand. Laura stared at Desi's hand for a moment before she pulled Desi into a hug, catching Desi by surprise. Desi was stunned for a moment but hugged her back.
"It's so nice to finally meet you as well." Laura spoke softly, and Desi smiled happily; she wished her mother was like this when she came home.
"Do you have any cool weapons or abilities?" Lila asked as Desi and Laura broke away.
"I can heal anything?" Desi asked but saw Lila pout.
"That's not very cool." Cooper said.
"Well, I have a Pegasus." Desi said, suddenly feeling very lame.
"A what?" Cooper asked.
"Hold on, let me call him," Desi said before she looked at the sky, shouting, "ASTROS!"
The bright sky erupted a loud thunder before a bright light shot down, revealing her Astros.
"Oh my god, it's a flying horse!?" Lila squealed, watching as Astros approached Desi. Desi giggled when Astros brushed his face against Desi, petting his head.
"This is Astros, he's a dear friend and my battle horse back on Asgard. This is his first time here; Astros, these are my friends, so please be kind, okay?" Desi spoke, hearing Astros snuff in response.
"I didn't know you had this. Why didn't you tell me?" Clint asked her.
"The same reason you didn't tell me about your family." Desi responded with a smile.
"Can we have a quick ride with him, please?" Lila asked, looking at her mom and dad; Clint and Laura looked at Desi and she smiled.
"I'm okay with it. I can take them up, or you guys can, if you like?" Desi agreed.
"I'll take them up, it'll be fine. Please, rest, okay?" Clint spoke, grateful for Desi.
The rest of their time there, the family took turns riding Astros until night was coming, and Desi was grateful for this Laura had made them dinner. Desi wanted to go back to the tower, but she wanted Clint to enjoy time with his family even more. Desi Clint said his farewells to his family, as Desi said her goodbye's as well.
"Thank you all for welcoming me into your home, I had a lot of fun!" Desi spoke.
"You're always welcome here, Destiny. Please look out for my husband for me, will you?" Laura asked.
"Of course, thank you, I can't wait to visit again." Desi said with a smile, bidding their farewells.
"Cute family." Desi said softly as she and Clint got on Astros once more, preparing for takeoff.
"Thanks…only you and Nat know about them." Clint spoke.
"And it'll stay that way, promise." Desi said, knowing how important this was to him.
"Thank you…are you feeling better now?" Clint asked, noticing she was distracted sometimes. She smiled and nodded, but he knew better.
"I just…I'm a little jealous, you know? And Laura…she's a wonderful mother. I just wish my mother was as kind as her, that's all. My family wasn't kind or welcome of me as yours was." Desi explained but didn't want to share more than that.
"You know when we first met. You reminded me of someone I once knew." Clint told her.
"Yeah, who?" she asked with a bright smile on her face.
"My sister, Emily." he said softly, noticing her smile turn into a frown. "There were some people that I pissed off, but somehow they found out about my sister. She, uh, was killed at the age of 21, around your age." he told her.
"I'm so sorry...do you want me to take the pain away?" she asked in a soft tone.
"No, I don't want this for you. I just want you to know that although you're not my sister, I'm going to look out for you like one; alright?" he told her.
She couldn't help but chuckle as she hugged him even tighter.
"I'm just glad I have you, Clint. Thanks for looking out for me." She told him, but he chuckled.
"Anytime, kid." He said in a whisper.
