Chapter 8

Johnny waited at the rendezvous point, for his friend. As he just ended the call, he hoped Rouge had some sort of a plan. Delaying his friend would only irritate him more; especially with him being famous for his impatience. Suddenly he looked away as he heard a Sonic boom, heading his way. The police moved out of the way as the blue blur raced down through the road, making the police officers hold on to their hats, very quickly by his dash.

Standing right in front of him, was none other than Sonic the hedgehog. But without saying a Hello, he went straight into business.

"Kintobor gave me the update; any sign of him yet?" Bluntly asked.

"Not yet, but some witnesses said he went out of the neighbourhood area a few hours ago."

"Then we better speed things up with this thing." Sonic responded, moving over a small package, that he was carrying over his shoulder.

To Johnny, it was he something he worried the most as Sonic pulled out the control device to detect chaos energy. And with his speed and every police officer in the action; odds were not in Super's favour.

As he watched Sonic talk to the police, Johnny quickly texted Rouge.

"If you are gonna find him, do it now. Good luck."

Shuffling inside the fabric bag, the yellow hedgehog kept his cool as the kidnappers finally kept it quiet. Lucky for him, they didn't tighten him up, or strap him onto something that gave him less movement. Also, to his advantage, the small rip that Cheese escaped from, gave him the perfect lookout of his predicament. But just small enough to not be spotted looking.

He managed to see the animals that had taken him; either sitting down or discussing their next plans. But they weren't the bothersome thing; their weapons were. Gun rounds and empty bullets scattered around the ground. He hoped no one got the end stick of those bullets. He couldn't tell who they were attacking when he was shoved inside, but it gave them all a ride for their money as they still complained to one another.

"The boss is gonna kill us, how many robots did we lose out there?" the parrot panicked, scratching any last feathers on his scrawny neck.

"Let's just hope this lass, is worth it." The hippo shouted from the driving seat.

"Are you sure that's Metamorphia in that? That looked like Super Sonic to me." The ferret spoke up, slowly approaching the bag.

The hedgehog moved back into the bag, not to be spotted through the fabric cut out.

"Don't be daft; it's just her in disguise. That insane maniac wouldn't have been caught that easily, would he? Ok we'll take a scenic route till the noise goes down. Then we'll head back out." The Pitbull commanded the driver.

The hedgehog was starting to get agitated with these idiots very quickly, as he folded his arm in a huff from that insult.

Soon, the hedgehog felt the vehicle stop, as the kidnappers jumped out through the side door. As he peeped through the small fabric hole, he caught the slim ferret sitting closely to him, about to prod the bag.

"Hey you in there! Want something to eat?"

Curious, Super Sonic crossed his arms, pondering how far could he get with them. But if they mentioned the he was meant to be a she, he had no clue what voice to speak up. Coughing slightly, he hoped for the best as he spoke in a high pitch voice.

"Yeah! Get me a whole chilli hot dog, extra onions and don't forget extra mustard. Oh, and while I am at, how about some chips to go with that one; with extra ketchup for good measure. As for drinks- "

"Enough! This isn't fine cuisine! Just get her some crisps, what flavour you want?"

"Plain thanks!" Super replied sarcastically, hoping the voice didn't sound too terrible.

He heard the ferret move away to his comrades, slamming the door behind him. This gave Super the chance to open up the tear in the fabric and poke his head out. He was relived to get some fresh air, but looking around, the chances of getting out easily was quite low. They had weapons everywhere and as he moved his head towards the driver's window, he spotted one of the robots poking its radar eyes inside.

Quickly Super Sonic ducked and popped his head back inside the fabric bag. Knowing he was gonna be there for a while, he got himself comfortable, as he waited for them to return.

As he was alone, his mind started to think and unravel.

Metamorphia, ring any bells?

Super wasn't sure. He somehow was familiar with the name but nothing else; most likely from Sonic's subconscious mind, when they were originally one. So of course, it was a complete surprise to see a full doppelganger in front of him.

But if that was Metamorphia, where was Ebony?

He hoped she was alright. She could easily look after herself in a fight, but if he left with the fake feline from the Groovy Train, then surely Pyjamas or the other staff members would have been suspicious. Even the piano player Mr Henderson and Cheese felt unsure vibes with that woman. But it did make him worry for her nonetheless.

And more importantly, what was going to happen to him?

He knew these idiots had messed up and had no idea they actually got the real Super Sonic. Otherwise, they would have either attacked him on the spot or running for the hills. Playing it cool, the hedgehog could only do was listen, follow his instincts and improvise to not blow his cover. In truth, he could easily escape from their clutches and make a run for it; but at what cost? But if he failed, could it be lights out for him? Someone innocent? Or for them? Keeping calm was most important; especially when not trying to use a destructive power, that could shatter the very world itself.

"So, guess I'll play this little game…for now. At least when I see a passage of escape somehow; no casualties or traces left behind. No sweat" Super joked to himself.

Suddenly he heard the car door open up as the group moved inside the vehicle; feeling the engine roar underneath him. He looked up to see the opening of the bag above him. This could be his one way of escape, but instead he watched a small packet of crips be thrown down and land on his head. Then the bag was sealed away shut.

Sighing, at least he got free food for his ride. As he eats the crips, another thing he concluded. They meant no harm oddly. Otherwise, why feed their prisoner? The weapons and robots however, were basic warnings if he did anything abnormal. But the question was, who were they going to meet?

The only sounds he could hear was the rumbling of the engine, the opening of food packets and the mumblings of the kidnappers. Then suddenly, he felt someone prod the bag.

"Hey! You, in there!" The parrot squawked.

"Yeap!?" Super replied back, reverting back to his high-pitched voice.

"Do you not mind, you know, changing back?" The parrot tutted.

"Hmm?" Super asked.

"You know! Change back to your normal look, just that, you know. The other guys, I mean me really; you're kinda freaking everyone out being Super Sonic. So do you not mind changing back?" The guy asked with a stutter.

Super Sonic didn't know what was worse, being kidnapped or being insulted twice?

Suddenly, the vehicle slowed down, and everyone kept quiet. The hedgehog's ears pricked up and noticed they were slowing down. Then the engine stopped. The robbers exited the van, while the big brute hippo took hold of the bag, dragging Super Sonic over his shoulder.

"Hey! You could have warned me at least!" He shouted.

If he was being dragged away by them, then it could be one thing; they had landed…

The bag was pulled up and the hedgehog tumbled down on the ground. Turning around, his arms rose up in front of him for a return attack, but the kidnappers simply backed off. The hippo cracked his large muscular hands, while the smaller animals kept hold of their guns, directly at him.

"Now, no messing here lass. The boss just wants to talk." The Pitbull calmy responded.

Even though it seemed he was the one in charge of this group, Super Sonic kept a good eye on those weapons. The hedgehog had to think on the spot as he gave another cough to heighten his voice.

"Have they not heard of a phone? That's what everyone is doing these nowadays!" The hedgehog huffed.

"Umm excuse me, do you not mind changing into something more..." The parrot squawked.

"More what? Does this scare you?" Super asked, couldn't help but to give a sinister smile towards the group.

In that moment, Super learned towards them as didn't look so tough with the weapons now. As he approached them, some looked terrified, while others tighten their grip on the guns. So certainly, not professionals; otherwise, none of them would show any weakness or emotion. Even he could hear the rattling of the gun shaking in the parrot's hand.

Whistling away as the hedgehog walked around them, he was able to get a full view of his surroundings. It looked like an old factory, left to rot in the city. Nearby, some of the roof had fallen in, leaving some of it to the open environment. There were plenty of exits around for him to escape, but if he simply ran off, that would give the game away on his identity.

But something else stopped from moving tracks; damn curiosity of their boss. Looking up, he saw one of the floating robots, hovering down to see him. He approached it and knocked it with his knuckle, hitting against the metal on his glove. The robot wobbled in mid-flight as he played with the metal gizmo, while the group of animals looked alerted and worried.

Actually, this was perfect for Super as he never actually managed to take a full intake of the droids. But as he saw more of them, there was no mistake about it, they were certainly the same from Rouge's encounter. Now his curiosity was peeked.

"So, this boss of yours, are they gonna introduce themselves?" Super shouted, grabbing hold of a nearby one, looking through the lenses.

The kidnappers kept stern, but none of them replied.

"Well, it's quite rude; especially with the "customer service" you lot provide. I'll just head off then; I'll leave a one-star review on your hospitability; one for bringing me the crisp mind you!" The hedgehog boosted.

But his exit was surrounded by the robots, all targeted on him. He could see and feel the red beams, scattered all over his body. Standing still, he was an easy target. Putting his hands up in defence, Super couldn't help but to laugh.

"Ok, I see someone is tight on their schedule. So, come on then, who's the manager of this "fine establishment?" Super asked, turning towards the kidnappers.

The gang of animals stepped back, looking nervous. Why?

Then suddenly one of the machines floated down, a foot away from him. This one however was different as it held two large speakers on the robot. A twitch of radar and a voice boomed from the small screen.

"Metamorphia, it's been a while. Shame about the look; it doesn't suit you."

The voice was unclear. Super Sonic tried to tune it in; a voice he was familiar with? But he couldn't tell, as it felt like a mix of robotic sounds and pitches. Annoying, this didn't help him with any clues with the leader of this group. But as he tried to move a simple gesture, he could feel the radars spotting his every moment. This voice, whoever they were, was not taking any chances.

"Why don't you transform to something more familiar? Like the face your creator made for you?"

Her creator? No idea he thought. This was starting to get alarming dangerous for him.

"Now why, do I want to do that?" Super asked, feeling the atmosphere suddenly change.

"Because I despise that rodent; blue or yellow! So, I will highly suggest you change to your normal form, or my robots here, will create a new mask for you."

As they finished speaking, he could hear the high pitch sounds of the Lazers, coming from the machines. They were getting ready to fire right down on him. What was he do?

Carefully moving closer towards their hideout, the ladies were able to get a full view looking down at the factory. Rouge was looking through her binoculars, while Ebony and Phia were aware of the situation. It was best for Pyjamas and Cheese to stay away from the action.

"Looks like they got him cornered." Rouge declared, as the robbers stood their ground with the robots.

Ebony waved her hand as she spotted Super Sonic. But what was alarming, was that he was easily surrounded. How far before he was pushed to such extremes?

Phia kept quiet as she watched the scene unfold.

This was all you fault; you should be down there, not him!

"One thing for certain, he needs more practise on his voice acting." Rouge joked as she continued to watch the scene.

Ebony moved to Rouge to come up with the plan. Whispering away to one another, Phia continued to watch down below. Guilt and anger overcame her.

Even though they never truly met until today, the hedgehog held no remorse towards Phia but showed nothing but kindness. Those words were meant to be for his feline friend, and yet she still hoped that some of it was for her alone. Clenching her fists, she knew what she needed to do. She had to make things right.

Taking a deep breath, she ignored the low shouts and cries from Rouge and Ebony as she flew down to the ground. But what if she still couldn't control it? What if she was going down there to meet her doom? Remembering to keep calm, she didn't feel like she was fighting against her body. She wanted to work along with it.

Determined and concentrating, she elevated her arms up wide. Breathing down to the ground, her body altered and vaped into a wave of dark cloud. The impact spread wide across the ground, as the robots instantly detected danger. But all they could see was the withering shadow approaching their way. No movement detective. Back onto the main attraction, which for Phia, was all she needed.

Time to make herself know….

Lights beamed from the robots as they took their stance, scattering the surroundings around them. The day was ending and so, came the night. Super Sonic looked and turned around, watching the dark mist crawl among the floor. Where had this come from? Could this be Ebony's magic? But as he turned with only his eyes, all he could see, was the same reaction of the robots; nothing. Then suddenly, he felt something emerging from the heavy mist.

What was he do? Move? Or keep his ground? With little choice, he waited for the mist to evaporate around him. However, as seconds passed by, he didn't feel any impact. Everything was still the same; the robots, the kidnappers, no one made any detection that something was up. But his fur suddenly stood on end and something small and soft brushed next to him.

He couldn't help but give a little shiver and a tiny shriek. This alerted the robbers, which the hedgehog immediately coughed to avoid any confusion. Keeping his cool, he knew something had come to his presence.

Then suddenly, a small whisper came to his ear; a small tiny female voice.

"Listen to me. Your friends are nearby. Follow my lead, ok?"

With no choice, Super Sonic nodded as he continued to listen to the voice. Daft as it was, the hedgehog shook his head and laughed, following the unusual script embedded in his ear.

"Oh! And lower your voice, I don't speak that high normally! Sounds like a scratching board".

This suddenly got Super to cough again. But as he rose his arm to cover his mouth, he was able to raise his voice down to a whisper.

"Ok fine. Just tell me what to say." He whispered back.

The kidnappers were on high alert with this odd behaviour. But then they were startled as the hedgehog suddenly became violently coughing, waving his hand towards the robbers.

The skunk moved forward and threw a bottle of water to him. Nodding his head as thanks, he opened the lip and took a large gulp. Everyone waited as he finished the water, but never placed the lid on the bottle as there were still water in the bottle.

"Ah much better thanks; had a little frog in my throat just then." Super joked, reverting to more of normal tone voice.

Then he turned towards the leading drone, still with all the red beam lights directed to his body.

"As for you, you haven't showed me your pretty face, so why should I?"

But then, even the kidnappers looked nervous, as they didn't foresee the unfortunate predicament, as they were in-between the firing range; even with their own guns. If things got nasty, they would certainly be in the thick of it. But then an order came, as the red dots moved away from the hedgehog. Even the bull dog, couldn't help but sigh a slight relief.

Felling slightly relived herself, the tiny voice came back again.

"Ask them what they want." It requested.

The hedgehog kept his poker face as he agreed.

"Ah finally! A common ground then. So, what do you want then? Not exactly come to ask how's my day been?" Super asked, sitting down on a nearby fallen patch of bricks to get comfortable.

The robots floated for a moment, till the head leader drone moved closer.

"I want you to join us. Right now, my army is becoming stronger and I want YOU, to be the one that leads it!"

Quietly waiting for the whispers reply, the hedgehog tapped his foot against the ground. Then he got his answer; which he admitted was a good response. He rubbed his nose as he calculated his next move.

"An army you say? Taking a small page out of Robotnik's book, are you?"

"Don't be absurd! Unlike that foolish human, my army would be more dangerous and fully under my control!"

The sudden outburst, made everyone around jump. Even the light mist surrounding them, shuddered. Hmm at least he knew he wasn't dealing with Robotnik here. But still no clues to their identify. The voice was starting to wither away stuttering with words. Did she know what to say next? Was she afraid?

Super Sonic took the lead slightly.

"Hmm! Not like I heard that before. Tell me, why do you think I'll take the job? Do you know me that well?"

The voice came back, surprised to ask such a request. Was she nervous what he was going to hear?

The main robot moved backwards, followed by a few of them. The kidnappers kept steady after that outburst; not sure what to be more worried about. Then the robot hovered upwards, for all to hear.

"Your skills are exceptional; the ability to transform, camouflage and excessive strength. Your power can bring down any foe and together; we can make a real difference to Mobius. I have already gathered the best of the elite, to my call. Why waste such a power, when it could be used to its full potential? You were created to serve under Robotnik, why not serve under another? One that will finally claim victory and give you what you deserve?"

"And what do I deserve?" Super coldly stated, looking dead in the eyes of the red lights.

"Respect."

A moment's silence and then-

"And what if I say no?" Super spoke out of the blue.

"Then our conversation is over." The unknown spoke out from the speaker.

Super noticed the guns were being lifted up from the gang, the robots ready to fire. So, what was he do? Will this stranger let him simply go free? Or will he be attacked as soon as he turns his back on them? The robots still hovered close to him, blocking his exits. Crossing his arms, he needed to think. Taking the last part of the water, he was hoping to kill some time.

Everything went quiet, even the voice went silent. The kidnappers were on edge, dying to know what the ex-villain would say. Super was quiet as he thought about it. It was strange; as if this boss was talking directly to him.

Maybe; if life didn't throw this curve ball at him of being good, would he have said yes? Would he join sides with them? He had once joined with Sidewinder once upon a time. And of course, knew what happened afterwards. The hedgehog would have soon betrayed them all and take them down himself; not because he had no loyalty; just because he could in spite and to see their reactions when it happened. To see their face of confusion, then pure terror.

Would he ever betray Ebony and Pyjamas? To see their faces of confusion and pure terror?

This was getting out of hand; he wasn't thinking about himself but for the mysterious voice in his ear. But she had gone silent; was she thinking the same? Would she join sides with another ruthless dictator? Then he could hear the tiny voice, debating with itself? Was she just as conflicted as he was?

But if this was Metamorphia, then everything they discussed when she was disguised as Ebony; Did it truly mean anything? He placed his hand over his mouth as if to think, but it was for him to whisper, hoping the voice to hear him.

"Well, it's your call." Super stated.

But he was getting nothing. The mist was still muttering; confused, frustrated and panicking. The hedgehog could feel the presence moving away; frightened to carry on.

"Then are you alright, if I answer?"

This caught the mist in surprise. So much so as soon as the hedgehog stood up and walked forwards, the mist had to quickly follow him from behind. Feeling the mist evaporating as he moved, the hedgehog stood still to gain some space, watching the mist gather around him, and the gang nearby. Stretching his arms up and yawning, everyone else was on guard.

"You know, it sounds great. But Ummm…what's the point?"

"I do not follow." The large robot spoke, following him as he moved.

"Well, you said I will gain respect; how exactly? By harming folk? Scaring them to death? Bidding them to my command? You'll be spending your whole entire life, fighting for it and you'll never get it. You don't GAIN respect; you EARN it! Big difference there, fancy bolts."

For that split second, the mist stopped frozen; as if listening as well.

"And another thing. You say you aren't like Robotnik, on the contrary, you are EXACTLY like Robotnik! The threatening, taking hostages and demanding allegiance to you or you'll destroy them! Hmm, I taste a hint of egg breath in that drone of yours. Look, thanks for the "invite" and the kind "hospitality" but if you wanted someone to join you, you could at least give them a goodies bag or invite them for a decent meal at least." The hedgehog replied, jokily throwing the empty water bottle at one of the robots; to add to insult.

But the boss wasn't having none of his nuisance as the Lasers suddenly locked in, on the hedgehog.

"I've had enough of wasting my time! Do you join me? Or not?"

Those moments felt like hours as all eyes were upon him. Then suddenly he felt something tighten as the mist started to get heavier.

"Hold on." The whisper echoed.

Hold on? Hold on to?

Suddenly, two large hands engulfed him and dragged him through the black fog. The hands kept tight on him as he couldn't make a sound. His hands and legs were tightening up by the mist, that he couldn't move. But just as he was taken through, he was suddenly spat out of the fog, scot free. Spinning around, his legs and hands were broken loose.

Confused, another hand tapped from behind him. But as he turned to face what had taken him, he was surprised to see his mirrored version of him. Before he could speak, his copy simply placed his finger over his mouth and pointed upwards. Looking up, he could see Ebony and Rouge looking down from their hiding place. Rouge was holding binoculars, while the feline waved down towards him.

"Thank you. I'll take it from here." He replied and just then, suddenly evaporated into the mist.

The hedgehog moved to see the mist had vanished away from him. Kneeling down next to some storage shelves, he turned to see the shadow mist was heading back to the main scene. This was his perfect time to move away from the spot light.

Making sure the coast was clear, Super Sonic ran upwards as he jumped and swung across the boxes, shelves and roof ceiling. Suddenly he was welcomed by Ebony, grabbing hold of him tightly. In that moment, he was certain that she was the real deal. But then was surprised, to see Rouge there, smiling and winking towards him.

Now it was just getting weirder, why was she here?

"What the heck is going on?" Super whispered.

"No time to explain, but glad you're ok." Ebony smiled.

"Shh you two! Phia is taking the stage now, be on your guard for anything. This is gonna get bumpy."

Meanwhile down below, Phia took a few deep breaths and merged back into the conflict.

It was her time, to take upon the stage…

The kidnappers were shock to see Super Sonic disappear, was this a trick? A trap? Holding up their weapons, the robots red Lazers zoomed across the area, trying to detect him. Seconds felt like hours, as the gang muttered among themselves.

But just as he vanished, he reappeared right beside the group of animals. The gang almost cried out in shock as they turned around with their weapons. The hedgehog simply looked at them, funny to be spooking them so easily. Phia couldn't help but to enjoy herself a little here.

"Sorry for the little disappearing trick there; had to sort out that voice of mine. I hope this sounds more…reassuring?" She smiled as she spoke calmly.

Walking away from them, Metamorphia kept her composure, as she felt her body feel lighter. From behind her false shadow, the small patches of mist she created, split up across the floor and evaporated into the air. She was becoming a part of the air; tasting it, smelling it. But looking towards her audience, she tried to hide it behind her; as not to set off the trap just yet.

"Your answer Metamorphia! Join me? Or not? No more of your silly games!" The speakers boomed from their impatient client.

She could feel her hands shaking as she gripped them tightly. A whole mixed of emotions she felt, making her feel anxious and overwhelmed. Taking short breaths, she kept focussed, trying her best to keep the disguise up.

All she kept thinking was what Pyjamas said to her before. Keeping calm…

She took one deep breath and smile.

"I will not" She responded, with a death glare towards them all.

The robbers looked confused as the hedgehog walked around, moving his hands around as he spoke. Even as he passed near them, Phia could hear the rattle of the guns shaking in their hands.

"I'm always reminded of the past. What I have done and the people I have hurt. And I admit, I'm no saint. And then, there are creatures like you; thinking that you can simply bully your way to victory. And when things don't go your way, you throw your dummy out and order your bots to do your cleaning up! I know first-hand what happens when you fail and believe me; it's not pretty! But damn to hell; it was the best thing for me! Because I FINALLY was able to make a choice for myself! Not ordered! Not controlled either! Just me!"

Suddenly the hedgehog's image started to wither. The robbers were suddenly confused as their silhouette started to change. And then, the hedgehog started to evaporate, suddenly disappearing.

Raising their guns up, they witnessed the mist getting heavier. The mist surrounded the group and robots, swirling around them. The robbers moved away from one another, trying to see a face. Scattered brain, they started to panic; what could they shoot? Where to shoot? The parrot was going nuts scratching the last remaining feathers off his back. The hippo kept slapping his head, feeling something brush beside him. Then they heard her voice boom around the building.

"How dare you think you can try to control me! No more hiding! No more denying who I am!"

The robbers were confused, when suddenly they felt their feet being tied up. As they looked down, they were suddenly dragged down and catapulted into the air. Their weapons were thrown down onto the ground as they were being lifted into the air.

Dangling upside down, they shouted out for help. Metamorphia watched as her hands swayed, her fingers dancing within the shadows as she extended her limbs to do her bidding. There and then, her formed changed. The shoes and gloves disappeared as her normal colour, covered her body. The robbers watched in awe and in horror as the form exploded and enlarged to a hideous monster, the mist forming into large tentacles.

They didn't know what was worse!

"Well boys! How you like me now?" She screamed, showing off her vicious teeth as they cried out.

The skunk was begging her not to eat him, tears down his eyes. The ferret was trying to grab anything from his pockets, but they simply fell to the ground. The hippo and Pitbull were trying to punch the fog away, to their wasted effort. The Parrot looked like he fainted. As she watched them, there was a small hint of memory; feeling so good to be powerful once again. It almost scared her just how much she missed it as she laughed.

But what of the robots? Her large face then turned to the speaker drone, as it hovered nearby.

"What a disappointment. Then Robotnik was right to throw you away, with the rest of the rubbish!"

The main robot dashed away, while the other robots collided together, their Lazers zooming to fire. With most her power being used for the robbers; she was left defenceless. She turned to face them, ready for the impact.

But then she heard something from a distant. A golden shot blasted one robot in an instant, while some of them were suddenly taken away, being thrown to each other and exploding in impact. What was going on? Then as she looked up to where her victims hung dry, she spotted movement from above.

The feline was throwing down magic from above as she appeared from her hiding spot. And there in the shadows, she recalled the fast dash of a certain hedgehog. Were they helping her? She looked up and gave one snarl, before simply letting her victims go. The group yelled as they fell down in a heap. Ignoring their weapons and their commands, they quickly grabbed their unconscious co-worker and fled the scene.

But this certainly wasn't over, as the robots took aim and fire. In an instant, Metamorphia's body altered in a flash, turning back into the mist. They tried to detect her, but as soon as they did, they would be greeted with a hit from a hammer or a swish of a large axe. They were completely defenceless as magic, speed and her powers, worked together to take them down.

But then she felt something, she hadn't felt for such a long time. The thrill and excitement of a good fight. She hadn't felt this adrenaline, since the time of her fight with Shortfuse; my gosh she missed it so much. She smiled as each robot drone went down; all except one. But as it moved to make its escape, she wasn't having none of it.

Her body altered once more as her limbs became separated and tied up in segment parts. She smiled as her head was being lifted up as the rest of her body coiled and tied into knots. There, she made her body into a huge net, which rocketed towards the machine. The drone had no chance of escaping as the machine was caught in her grasp and rocketed to the ground with a slam.

Then the assistance from above was seized, and the last robot was being destroyed nearby by the hedgehog. Metamorphia ignored them as she reverted back to her normal self, her hand changing into an axe. The drone was severely damaged, as its circuits were being zapped every time it tried to move.

"You'll pay for this insolence! No matter what you'll do, where you are, I will find you and destroy you" The voice spazzed out.

"Then I'll be waiting then." She smiled as she slammed the axe down in fury.

Taking a few deep breaths, she watched the robot simply shut down; ending the conversation. The red dot of its bulb simply died out. Stepping back, she kept hold of her hand as she tried to revert it back. The adrenaline was still kicking and her emotions were still haywire. As she focused on her breathing, slowly, her hand started to downsize, her fingers returning as she moved them around.

It was over…but for how long?

Suddenly she heard footsteps from above. She didn't look up as she knew who there were. Still trying to keep herself calm, there was only way to end this…

There was no way they were staying there anytime longer, as the robbers threw their frightened friend and themselves, back into the van. Not even caring for seatbelts, the engine roared as they speeded away. But before they could even turn around the first bend; the alarming sounds of sirens blocked their way.

"Wait! How did they find us?" The skunk screamed out.

"Who cares! Get us out of here now!" The Pitbull shouted to the hippo driver.

But before they could reverse back, they were confronted by something fast. A whirlwind rushed round the vehicle and as it was turning angles, the van was being lifted up by the veracious speed. The robbers cried out as the whole van spun around, watching them float from inside. But as soon as the whirlwind seized, the van collapsed in a heap; with all the animals slamming hard to the bottom of the vehicle.

The robbers moaned and heaved their bruised bodies upright. Ignoring the debris and broken glass, they took their exit through the side door. Only to be confronted by police cars, lights and a huge gang of police officers. And there, folding his arms, was the hero Sonic the hedgehog.

"I don't think I can take anymore hedgehogs guys!" The Pitbull spoke in defeat, raising his hand in defeat.

Cuffs chained to their hands, the defeated bunch made their way to the large police van, when they were pulled up by the blue blur himself.

"Seen another hedgehog nearby? Where?" Sonic forced his question to them.

But he wasn't getting nowhere fast. As the police took them away, they found dozens of weapons at the back of the van. Just what was going on? Sonic looked down at the Kintobor device and saw that nearby were old abandoned factories and there, was a small but focussed detection of Chaos Energy. If he was a betting animal, one of those would have defiantly been a meeting spot. And from what they said, looks like they also had a bad outcome with the yellow devil.

Suddenly, he heard his name being called out. Turning around, it was Johnny as he ran with his staff. He looked worried as he caught his breath, quickly turning to see the crooks be slammed inside the vehicle and moving out.

"Looks like we got the robbers from this morning; defiantly match their description."

"Yet; not the one I'm looking for. And I have a feeling I know where to find him…"

Unbeknownst to Sonic, Johnny didn't look worried about Super Sonic; he was worried for him. As he watched his friend talking to the officers for more backup, the rabbit quickly took out his communicator and pressed a message to Rouge. It was now or never…

Super Sonic finished off the last robot as it stood motionless, until he spotted the final one, sliced by Metamorphia. He walked toward her just as Ebony and Rouge came down from their hideouts.

"Looks like the robbers have done a legger. Looks like in the end, they were just hired henchmen; not the best ones I admit." Spoke Rouge, sounding disappointed.

Ebony however was more concerned for Super as she spoke to him.

"You did quite good there. I wouldn't have known what to say, if I was in your shoes." Ebony spoke, not hiding the sigh of relief coming from her lips.

"But are you ok? I mean, what happened? Were you at the Groovy train all this time?" The hedgehog bombarded her with questions.

"That unfortunately, is a bit of a long story." The feline spoke, slightly annoyed and embarrassed.

As they continued talking, Phia's slight guilt of jealousy started to crawl back. Even when their lives were on the risk, they both looked so relieved and calm. She couldn't help but to feel happy for them…and annoyed. She sighed when she spotted Rouge look down at her sudden message, looking alarmed.

"That was Johnny; we gotta move now. Sonic is only a few yards away with the police."

"Then what are we waiting for? Had enough of surprises for one day thanks." The hedgehog demanded, no looking too chirpy now.

But as they moved, Phia stood frozen.

"Aren't you coming?" Ebony asked.

"No, I'm not. Like I said, think I'm done with hiding." Phia explained.

"But why? You'll be locked up!" Ebony spoke back.

"I know, but that will be my choice." She smiled back to them.

"But first, I need to sort out a little problem." She spoke as she headed towards the hedgehog.

Super Sonic didn't know what he was expecting, as she suddenly grabbed hold and hugged him tightly. The feline and bat were just as shocked as well. This was as close she was going to get to him.

"Thanks for the talk today, she's really lucky to have you." She whispered.

But as she let go, the hedgehog moved back to suddenly see his mirror reflection back at him. Phia; now disguised as Super Sonic, ordered them to get moving. She watched them as they made themselves disappear, jumping onto the rooftop. Funny she thought; looked like they've done this dozen of times as they made their escape.

Taking a deep breath, she knew what she was doing. If she was ever going to settle everything and start anew, she must face her demons. But she wasn't afraid this time as she saw the police sirens, lighting up the place. As they stormed the place with their guns up high, Phia simply knelled down and raised her hands up in the air.

This, was her choice…

As the police stormed inside, Sonic took another approach. Not taking any chances with the monster, he took the scenic route and went through the back door.

But then something caught him as he looked up. Something had fallen down from a great height; maybe a stone? But as he looked up, he could have sworn he saw a small group making their leave as they jumped over the close buildings. But he had to focus, for Super Sonic was right inside.

He wished he had his own back up, but seeing his freedom fighters were busy to his annoyance; guess he had to do it the hard way. Speeding right through, he saw the yellow hedgehog rising his hands up and kneeling down. Surprising him with a back pounce, both hedgehogs collided and fell to the ground.

As Sonic grabbed hold of him, something felt odd. Why wasn't he resisting? And then he spotted something odd, was he changing? Moving back suddenly, Johnny finally caught up with him as he rose his staff. The police also watched as the yellow hedgehog got back up, hands rose above his head. But he was altering, changing form. It took a moment as the spotlights were all focussed on him.

But he…turned into her. Sonic was gobsmacked to see Metamorphia turning towards him and giving a light smile.

"I can explain; everything!"

Was this the right thing to do? To simply leave her to the police? Ebony wasn't sure and neither was Super Sonic. The hedgehog was silent throughout their trip back to the café; with everything closed for the night. When they were confronted by Pyjamas and Cheese; who was very glad to see Super safe by crawling all over his face in glee, Super was still quiet.

Rouge however reassured them, as she would help Johnny defend her case; anonymously of course. As Super listened to the full story, he still kept silent; even when Cheese fell asleep on his arms. It was getting late and they said their farewells to Pyjamas as she made her way back to her flat. Rouge had to keep cover for the night as so, decided to crash with the dog. Ebony stretched out her arms and yawned.

"Well, I'm glad it's over. But not happy that now I got to hire a plumber, for that mess in the ladies bathroom." The feline said in annoyance.

But after the silent treatment from Super, she just couldn't feel uncomfortable any longer. As he sipped on his drink, he looked absent as he sat at the kitchen table. So much so, that when she placed her hand over his, he nearly spooked himself.

"Hey, you ok?" Ebony whispered.

Silence at first, but then he spoke.

"Do you think, I will ever betray you?" Super asked.

This caught Ebony slightly as she looked at him with a confused look. But then she smiled.

"Nope."

"Bit sudden with that answer." The hedgehog spoke bluntly.

"Nope, just confident. Just as Pyjamas explained to Meta; I mean Phia. You aren't the same hedgehog from before. You've gone a long way, don't ever forget that. And besides…"

The feline snarled as she jumped behind him and pressed both her hands on his shoulders that nearly jumped Super out of his hoodie and chair.

"Because if you did, I'll be bringing you back right here and you'll have to do a whole month of cleaning dishes and toilets; no breaks."

"Ok, think I got the message." Super nervously replied as he noticed Cheese was stirring in its sleep.

Super watched as Ebony wished him goodnight and made her way to her bedroom. Alone, Super chugged down the last bit of his drink, making his way to his own. Today had certainly been one heck of a day. The chao started to turn over in its sleep, as the hedgehog gently carried it.

But in truth, could he? Would he? Just the mere motion is ridiculous in his book and yet, something lurked within him that maybe one day, he would be one day, challenged with that decision …

At the back of the police car, Phia watched as the door closed after her, sealing her shut. The sirens echoed across the streets as they made their way to the city jail. But she wasn't afraid as she pressed her head against the window.

She only noticed outside, after everything she had been through today, that it had started to rain. And yet, it sounded relaxing as the car went through the puddles. Quickly, she couldn't resist anymore but to simply close her eyes.

After all, if this was to be her last ever trip of freedom, she might as well remember it in her dreams…
