Chapter:78 Another Dilemma
!
Ruby bolts upwards, panting moments before surveying the area. Large conch shells and six-armed starfish intermittently dot a sand-colored beach that seems to stretch for miles in either direction. In the distance, Ruby sees two very intact moons seemingly orbiting each other as they slowly orbit... wherever she is. Ruby stands up and wrings out the water from her cloak.
Directly in front of her, sits a tropical albeit equally strange forest. The palm trees form odd bulbous shapes, some wrap around each other while others appear to be two or three trees stacked together. The tree in the center, however, is enormous towering over the distance. It stands so tall that only the bottom section of its canopy is visible as the rest. A flock of large birds burst out from the top of the forest, drawing Ruby's attention to a not quite as distant cliff edge on the other side of the forest.
Ruby stares at the giant tree and walks towards the forest.
As Ruby continues to progress through the forest, she squeezes through a group of trees into a clearing. An oddly-colored bird screams as she enters the clearing. Ruby sees the giant tree again in the distance, before proceeding forward and squeezing through another group of trees. In an odd sense of deja vu, Ruby squeezes into the same clearing again, confusing Ruby. The bird from before screams again and starts to babble nonsense. Ruby looks up to the giant tree again, realizing she is not getting any closer. Ruby proceeds forward again, passing by a mouse sleeping on a large seashell. She squeezes through the same trees again, and the bird flies away this time. Ruby grunts in frustration as she walks forward again.
At this point, the mouse has woken up, watching Ruby go through the same thing again and again. Ruby looks up at the tree one more time, before going off to lean and sit at the base of a nearby palm tree. She curls up and starts to sob, causing some thunder to sound and raindrops to fall. Ruby then notices the mouse trying to pull a sprout out of the ground, but to no avail. Ruby then picks up the mouse and pulls out the vegetable with ease. The vegetable is actually made out of cheese. Ruby stares at it in confusion before handing it over to the mouse who wants to eat it. Ruby smiles as the mouse eats its food before frowning again.
"Now if only you could help me…" Ruby said as the mouse then looks to Ruby, gulping its food.
"I could try," The mouse spoke as Ruby stares at the mouse wide-eyed for a moment, before suddenly screaming out, startling the mouse as well.
"Why are you yelling?!" It said in fright.
"I. Uh. Because. You. Oh! You're-" Ruby stammers, still shocked to what she is witnessing.
"Did you wanna share? Oh, I guess it's only fair…"
"No, that's- that's alright. Uh, I guess, uh… I've just never really spoken to, uh… a mouse before?" Ruby explained.
"Hmm, well, I guess I've never spoken to a… you before. What are you?"
"Oh, uh, I'm a human," She said as the mouse tilted their head. "A girl?"
This only made the mouse tilt its head more.
"A Huntress?"
And lower for the third time.
"That's a lot of things," The mouse said.
"I'm..." Ruby just let out a tired sigh. "I'm Ruby Rose."
"And to Ruby Rose is… your purpose?" The mouse asked.
"No. No, that's my name," Ruby corrected the little mouse. "Do you have a name?"
"I'm still young, so… not yet?" It said as Ruby points to her chin in thought.
"How about I call you… Little, for now. Would that be alright?" Ruby asked.
"Hm, how does one… Little?" The now named Little asked as Ruby giggles a bit before frowning again with the little mouse noticing this. "Huh? What's wrong?"
"I'm… uh, have you seen other people? Humans, like me," Ruby asked as Little gave her a curious look.
"Exactly like you?"
"No, not… exactly like me," Ruby corrected herself as she puts Little down, who hops off her hand carrying the cheese. "I mean, we're similar, but different."
"I'm sure it'll make sense eventually," Little said.
"Um… one would have long, blonde hair, the other has… well, uh uh… cat ears," Ruby said while makes a motion that imitates cat ears which made Little yelp and hide behind the cheese. Ruby then panicked a bit. "Sorry! I- I should've known. I've seen plenty of cartoons."
Little then steps out from behind the cheese and said, "Well, I've never seen anyone who does, or doesn't, look like you. But, maybe someone in my village has. They're always out foraging, you know, since we need food and stuff."
Ruby just let out a sigh of relief.
"Speaking of which… a few more of these wouldn't hurt!" Little said as they point to more of the cheese sprouts planted in the ground.
"You really think it's around here somewhere?"
"I wouldn't exactly say I'm certain about anything at the moment…"
"Vul!"
Weiss, Eis, and Blake could be seen walking together in the forest.
"Gambol Shroud fell after you and Ruby, but before I did. And we found each other, so… what is this place?" Weiss asked while began to feel something is wrong.
"I don't know. None of my guesses really make sense," Blake said as the Liepard Faunus looked behind to see a vine moving on a tree.
"Blake..." The heiress said as the two of them look at each other. "I'm really glad you're okay."
Blake smiled at this while Eis happily yips.
"I'm really glad you are too," Blake as she then lowers her head in thought. "And if we are, then that means Yang and Ruby might be."
Weiss smiles before turning away with a frown while Eis let out a sad whine.
"Weiss… can you… what happened after we fell?" The Faunus asked.
Weiss pauses for a bit, sighing then said, "We should focus on finding everyone else first."
Blake looks down, frowning, before hearing Weiss yell out.
"I think I see something!"
Blake proceeds forward to join her. They find the katana part of Gambol Shroud entangled in thorny vines.
"I guess it could've been worse..." Blake said.
"I guess it could've been worse…"
"That wasn't an invitation, Weiss," The Faunus said in annoyance.
"Sorry."
The two girls proceed to work on trying to get the katana out of the vines. Blake tries to pull, but to no avail. Weiss then tries to slash through it with Myrtenaster, but the vines immediately grow back, causing Weiss to groan in frustration. Even Eis using Powder Snow didn't work as the vines just breaks and regrows itself. Blake then tries to reach for it by leveraging herself from a palm tree.
"Yeah! Woo!" Weiss cheered for her while Eis happily yips.
Blake's hand barely touches her katana, but suddenly the vines sprout out towards her.
"Huh?" Weiss said in shock and confusion as the vines start to head toward her and Eis too, and the three were then ensnared in the vines. Suddenly, a swarm of mice and mouse-like Pokémon emerge, cheering. They then stop in front of the trapped Huntresses and Pokémon.
"The trap has been sprung!" One of the mice said on top of a Raticate's head.
The mice tribe leader is then seen running up the vines.
"Justice befalls our prey!" The leader declared as the mice tribe began to cheer.
"Are they… talking?" Weiss said in shock while Blake writhes around the vines.
"Not what I'm worried about right now!" Blake said in frustration.
Meanwhile, Ruby continues through the forest, hearing the noise of the mice tribe. Little is snoring on her shoulder.
"Are you drooling on me?" Ruby said in disgust. She then stops, seeing Weiss, Eis, and Blake tied up in vines to wood surrounded by the mice tribe.
"And on this day, we were not the prey, but the hunters!" The leader mice declared as the tribe began to cheer while Ruby stares in bewilderment at the sight, nudging her shoulder to wake Little up.
"What's going on?" Little asked till they noticed the commotion. "Oh, hey, it's your cat friend... and is that a white fox?"
Little then loose their balance as Ruby catches Little in her hands, and the mice tribe notices them.
"A new adversary approaches! We must liberate our kin!" The leader mice declared again as the tribe cheered and their Pokémon tribemates fired at Ruby.
"Ahh!" Ruby screamed in fear as the attack was about to hit her while Little quickly jumped off her.
After clearing up a misunderstanding, mice tribe listen to Little's first encounter with Ruby while said girll is standing by her friends while a bit singed and beaten.
"I didn't know what to do because she looked sad. But then we talked, and she seemed less sad. Then she pulled the cheese out of the ground on her own!" Little said as mice tribe gasp in surprise. A white mouse with red eyes faints. The Mouse Leader runs towards Blake as the Faunus kneeled down.
"You have our sincerest apologies! Please understand that our kind is a bit skeptical of cats… and snakes… and foxes... and cats," The leader said.
"We understand. If… we could ask, have you seen anyone else who looks like us? Long, blonde hair, looks kinda scary but isn't?" Blake said.
"But could be if she wanted to," Weiss asked as Ruby chuckles sheepishly. The Mouse Leader shakes its head. Blake stands up to rejoin Ruby and Weiss as the hooded teen looked saddened.
"Thanks anyway…" Ruby said to her two teammates. "Before all of… this, I was trying to go to that cliff over there."
She then points to the cliff she saw before.
"I figured going to higher ground and getting my bearings would be good."
"Sounds like the best option for now," Weiss said.
Little then scurries over to Blake which startles the Faunus after Little climbs up to her shoulder as they said, "If you wanna go to the cliff, I can help with that. I don't have anything to do yet."
"Yet?" Ruby asked.
"I can be your trusty guide," Little assured them.
Little is shown snoring in Ruby's hood. Ruby smiles at them.
"Or…" Weiss was trying to swat away an insect with rocking horse legs with Eis besides her. " I guess we could figure it out ourselves."
"At least they got us to this path," Blake said. "We need to hurry. Yang's been down here the longest and we still haven't found her."
"Weiss, I was wondering… if you fell, then are there others down here too? What happened?" Ruby asked her partner as the heiress was silent for a moment.
"I don't know if anyone else fell, no. I think we should find Yang, if she's even down here. Then we can go over everything," Weiss said to her leader.
"I just-"
Suddenly, the four of them hear a roar in the distance. They run up to the top of the cliff and notice a strange, purple, masked creature twitching.
"Seeking… Searching… Scouring… Stalking… Searching… Scouring… Stalking…" The creature said.
Little gasps and hides in Ruby's cloak. The creature hears them.
"Detecting… Listening…"
The creature turns its head. Blake and Weiss draw their weapons while Eis was ready to fight. Ruby tries to reach behind her, but Crescent Rose is still missing. They keep their distance as the creature faces them. It then proceeds to charge forward.
"DANGER! DEATH!"
Blake jumps forward.
"BITE! RIP! TEAR!"
The creature swipes its claw at Blake, but she blocks it with Gambol Shroud. Weiss runs forward to assist, but stops suddenly.
"I said I wasn't done with you yet!"
A large rock was then thrown at the creature, who jumps away from Blake after the rock hits them. There standing nearby the flying creature while heavily panting was Yang and she looks up, her prosthetic arm is missing. Weiss, Eis, Blake and Yang surround the creature.
"Recede… Retreat… Wait… Return."
The creature makes their retreat as it jumps high to the next cliff and disappears into the forest. Weiss, Eis, and Blake run after the creature. Yang pants heavily and ends up kneeling, exhausted. Ruby runs towards Yang.
"Yang! I–"
"Dammit! You weren't supposed to be here…" Yang said as Ruby kneels down next to Yang.
"If you thought we wouldn't come for you, then you must've forgotten who raised me," Ruby said as her older sister let out a sigh. "What happened to your arm?"
"I don't think you'd believe me if I told you…" Yang said to her.
"Why not? You seem trustworthy," Little said as Yang look at them with widen eyes.
"Uh, Ruby? What is that?" Yang asked as she was suddenly gets tackled by Blake to the ground as the Liepard Faunus embraced her.
"Yang…" Blake said in relied as the blonde hugged her back.
" I sort of thought you'd be a little happier to see us," Weiss said as she rejoins the group along with Eis.
" I am… It's just… It must have gone pretty bad, huh?" Yang said as Ruby and Blake look at her. Blake then looks back at Ruby before they turn to see Weiss who looked really worried.
"Weiss..." Ruby said to her partner with a look of dread on her face.
"I... I don't really what happened. It just happened so fast," Weiss said in a tired tone. "Penny was dying... She wanted Jaune to kill her but... Victor intervened and he covered himself and Penny in fire. Then we began to fall."
"W-What happened then?" Ruby asked with a shaky voice.
"Then... I think they just disappear," The heiress said as the cape wearing teen look at her partner in shock.
"What do you mean they just disappear?!" Ruby questioned her as the young teen's heartbeat quicken.
"I-I don't really know! Before I black out, I just saw a literal fireball coming down with hs when a different portal opened below it and... they are just gone," Weiss explained to her leader as Ruby just look at her with widen eyes and labored breath.
"I... I need to lie down," She said as the cape wearing teen tried to reach out for something for support. She then found a log and she sat down. "M-Maybe some sleep would help."
Yang looked worried and said, "Maybe you should for a while, it might help to clear your head."
"T-Thank you," Ruby said but there was a bit of uncertainty in her voice, she then lay down on the log and closed her silver and blue eyes as darkness soon envelops her.
In the middle of this unknown world, a giant tree towers over it with with large roots and beautiful verdant leaves. Sitting upon one of its roots is an individual that was hidden by the leaves.
They just sat there, watching Team RWBY clearly from afar as they let out a hum.
"My champion have arrives but in clear distress," They said with a mystifying feminine tone as they sound very saddened. "Uxie!"
Then someone appeared behind them.
"Yes mistress?"
"Do keep an eye on those four and bring along your friend with you," They ordered as the one they summoned just groans.
"Do I have to?"
"Yes," They said with finality. "They would feel really lonely whenever you're gone, and this might be a good time to continue their rehabilitation."
"Fine," They said with a groan before saying. "What about father's champion?"
"It would be hard journey for him but his companion wouldn't leave him astray," They assured their companion. "So please help my champion."
Their companion let out a sigh and said, "As you wish."
They then felt their companion's presence disappear as they continue to watch Team RWBY from afar.
"I hope you better be ready my champion for your journey here will be a harsh one."
And that is the end of this chapter!
So yeah sorry for the late update for this story because I have been busy for a while.
You know with my current active stories and just enjoying my life, there is so much to do.
Then I decided to do some test runs, like doing some ideas at Microsoft Words first then deciding to put it in in the roster if it has some opportunities.
And I don't mean just rewriting an alreadt existing story but creating my own, it has been bugging me a lot, so I am doing test runs first before actually putting it in with the rest of my stories.
Then there is the fact that I am going to collage soon, so there would be more delay on more of my stories.
I am just lost you know, I am just trying to find something that I could do to express myself and here it is.
I am just really self conscious, which is a reason for the test runs that I am doing.
But I think that's enough of me ranting about, I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter and I'll see you guys in the next chapter.
Vic out Peace.
