Kanone is demonstrating just how powerful his Kommo-o is! Komei is destroying everything in his path with his overwhelming power, and Wes has found himself pressed to the brink! Is this enough for Kanone to turn things around? Or does Wes have more tricks up his sleeve? These two are giving it everything they have, and showing just how powerful their pokemon are, and how skilled they are as trainers! Remember to review!
KedharS: Yeah, he's doing quite well!
Jjjdunk1: Yep, he's a pretty powerful trainer, being able to come up with a move like that. And I agree, there need to be more attacks like brick break. A special Psychic type attack would be a good one, for example.
Pokemon Academy: Beginning of Beginnings
Chapter 1225
Wes clutched his stomach, feeling the pain blossoming through his body. He didn't know how to process what he'd just experienced.
That power… I can't believe it… Wes had fought a lot of powerful trainers in his time. And Kanone wasn't necessarily stronger than all of them. But Wes had no idea that his opponent had a pokemon of that caliber at his disposal. The strength to smash through a light screen with just air pressure… if you'd asked him before, he would have thought something like that was impossible!
But it wasn't impossible. Which meant Wes just had to overcome that disadvantage and find a way to defeat his opponent in spite of it.
"Orgon!" He roared. His Feraligatr rose to his feet, energy swirling around him.
"Oh!" Darla gasped, her eyes widening. "No way!"
"Feraligatr!" Violet flames and lightning crackled around his body as he filled himself with power. He stomped forward with fury in his eyes.
"W-Wait, Darla… isn't that…" Lila glanced at her partner for confirmation, but the serious look in Darla's eyes answered it right out.
"Dragon dance," Darla confirmed, a shadow crossing her face. "It's not a dragon, but that move… it's going to be trouble."
"So you've got a dragon dancer as well, hmm?" Kanone grinned. "No wonder you weren't worried by Komei's power!"
"That's not all!" Wes snarled. "Dragon pulse!"
"Feraligatr!" Orgon opened his jaws, gathering lightning and flame between his sharp teeth. The air swirled into an orb and he fired the blast at Komei in a powerful shockwave.
"Kommo-o!" Komei leapt to the side, dodging the blast. But it didn't end there. Wes had two pokemon, and both were going on the offensive.
"Energy ball," Wes ordered.
"Meganium!" Megan fired an orb of green energy at Komei, who ducked under that attack as well. He had an excellent resistance against Grass type attacks, but he didn't want to press his luck. Unfortunately, that was part of Wes's plan.
The grass rose up around Komei, and that's how Kanone realized that the energy ball was just a distraction. He felt his body held down, tightly bound by the grass, as Megan followed one Grass type move with another.
"And now you're trapped," Wes said, narrowing his eyes. "Orgon! No more hesitation! Use ice fang, now!"
"Feraligatr!" Orgon roared, lowering his head and barreling towards Komei. He opened his jaws wide and freezing energy surged through his fangs, preparing to chill the Kommo-o down to the bone with a powerful bite.
"Oh no!" Giselle cried.
"Not good, he can't move," Gabrielle scowled. She knew how effective Ice type attacks were for dealing with Dragon type pokemon, which wasn't good for Kanone.
Orgon lunged at Komei, biting down hard on the dragon's shoulder. Komei roared in pain as he felt the ice spread across his body, but he didn't succumb.
"Curious," Willa mused. "With that Kommo-o's defense so badly reduced, this attack should have done considerably more damage to him. But he's holding tough." She wondered what some of her concoctions would do to the dragon.
"Look!" Chloe cried, her heart stirring with joy as she got a closer look at the Kommo-o's scales. They were shining silver.
"Iron defense," Kanone said, cracking a grin. "Just felt like shoring up some of Komei's weaknesses, that's all."
"All you did was return it to normal," Wes said, narrowing his eyes. "And with the boost from dragon dance, that was no ordinary attack."
"Then it's a good thing this isn't, either!" Kanone shouted. Komei pushed forward, tearing his arm free of the grass. He grabbed Orgon by the throat and flung him to the ground, pounding him down with so much force that his spines dug into the dirt.
"Feraligatr!" Orgon roared, thrashing angrily. He tried to right himself, but the spines held firm in the dirt.
"A powerful counter is a good move against a hit like that," Raizer grinned. "Nicely done, Kanone!"
"Phoenix!" Kanone turned to his Blaziken. "Now, while he's stunned, attack his weak point! Use thunder punch!"
"Blaziken!" Phoenix nodded, charging forward. Flames burst from his wrists and electricity quickly covered them. He raised his fist and swung down on the Feraligatr, aiming right for his chest with a burst of lightning.
"Meganium!" Megan flung her body forward, plowing into Phoenix like a truck. She knocked the Blaziken across the field with her body slam, standing defensively over her partner.
"Blaze…" Phoenix clutched his ribs and rose shakily to his feet. He was in bad shape and his head was spinning. That attack had taken a lot out of him. He was holding onto his last slivers of health at this point.
Megan used her vines to help Orgon back up, just as Komei managed to tear himself free from the wrest of the grass knot. The two ferocious pokemon glared at each other and charged forward.
"Kommo-o!" Komei raised his fist and punched at the air, sending a shockwave of sound forward as the air cracked. But it wasn't fast enough to hit the Feraligatr. Orgon leapt to the side, picking up speed through the use of agility and slipped around Komei, lunging at him from behind.
"Feraligatr!" Ice covered Orgon's claw, curling it into a fist as he prepared an ice punch aimed right at Komei's back.
Komei didn't let him hit, though. His tail twitched and flicked through the air, and he swung it into Orgon's stomach. The Feraligatr doubled over in pain, roaring ferociously and gnashing his fangs at the dragon angrily.
"Meganium!" Megan headbutted Komei, slamming into him hard. Her powerful neck smacked against Komei's chest and knocked him over. Komei knew that if he spent too much time on the ground, things would be bad. So he turned his fall into a roll, tumbling through the grass and leaping to his feet just in time to get an ice punch in the face.
"This isn't good," Darla winced.
"It's not," Alden agreed. "Kanone needs to switch out his Blaziken. His Kommo-o is powerful, but he's being attacked on two fronts."
"That's bad however you slice it," Vic agreed. "Double battles are hard to win when your opponent has two pokemon that can fight and you only have one. He needs to switch Blaziken out for a pokemon that can even the odds."
If Kanone heard their suggestions, he didn't show it. Because he continued to behave like everything was normal, letting Phoenix take a break while Komei handled both opponents.
"I've gotta say, though, he's definitely doing well," Raizer grinned. "That Kommo-o is tough! He's taking on two powerful pokemon like that, and isn't even getting overwhelmed! He's fighting them pretty evenly!"
As a trainer who specialized in fighting with a single pokemon, he could appreciate the incredible power of Kanone's Kommo-o. In fact…
"I want to fight him myself!" Raizer grinned, feeling tingly. Kanone was a powerful opponent, and that Kommo-o was a beast!
"I get the feeling," Ian agreed. Any trainer who liked a challenge would want to test their strength against Kanone. Even though he knew it would probably result in a defeat.
"Komei!" Kanone shouted, focusing his harmonia. "No more playing around! Fight with everything you've got! Clanging scales!"
"KOMMO-O!" Komei roared, flexing his muscles. The scales on his body began to rattle and sonic energy formed a tornado around him. He stormed forward and opened his mouth, gathering the soundwaves together into a massive burst.
He unleashed the shockwave towards the two pokemon, in an effort to knock them both unconscious with the overwhelming power he'd built up.
"Megan, light screen!" Wes ordered.
"Meganium!" Megan's flower began to shine and a barrier of green light appeared around her and Orgon, shielding both pokemon from the sonic assault.
The light screen only lasted for a few seconds. As the wave of sound slammed into it, it began to crack like a window under a high-pitched frequency, which caused the light screen to shatter into pieces. The shockwave hit both pokemon, knocking them off their feet with the power of the attack.
"Meganium!"
"Feraligatr!"
Both pokemon were overwhelmed by the sonic power, and struggled to get back to their feet. Wes winced, feeling the sounds smash into his eardrums. But Samarra's influence was powerful, and it kept him from being completely beaten.
"That won't be enough this time…" He snarled.
Clanging scales had a downside. The amount of power he put into that attack had caused the resilience of his scales to weaken, opening up the avenue for another attack. And Orgon was happy to oblige. Water swirled around him and he charged forward, slamming into Komei with a powerful aqua jet, forcing the weakened Kommo-o backwards. While that was happening, Megan began to prepare a move of her own.
It was a slightly different kind, though.
The flower around Megan's neck began to glow green, as did her antenna. She built up energy and opened her mouth, creating an orb between her lips.
"Heal pulse," Wes ordered.
"Meganium!" Megan fired the heal pulse at her partner. If it hit, Orgon's health would receive a massive boost.
"Not good," Vic winced. Heal pulse was a very good move in double battles, and very useful in this particular instance.
Kanone smiled. "Now!"
The heal pulse never made it to its target. That's because, while Orgon separated from Komei, a blur appeared between the two of them.
Phoenix had used quick attack to cross the battlefield, throwing himself in front of the heal pulse before it could connect.
"No!" Wes cried. He couldn't believe he had been so careless!
Phoenix bathed in the healing energy of the attack, restoring the health that Wes's pokemon had spent so much time lowering. He was still paralyzed, so he couldn't fight at his strongest, but with his energy getting restored, he was back in the fight!
"So that's why he didn't switch out!" Ian grinned. "Not a bad choice."
"He's gonna turn this around, now," Alden nodded.
"Komei! Deal with that Feraligatr, keep him occupied," Kanone snapped. Komei lunged forward and raised his fist, swinging it at the Water type pokemon as he jumped back. The dragon's powerful punches kept Orgon on his toes, and it was only thanks to his agility that he was able to maintain his balance and keep ahead of Komei's attacks.
On the other hand, though, things had turned where it came to Phoenix. Now that his strength had returned and his power was being boosted by harmonia, he could actually give Megan a fair fight. Which was a problem.
Megan doesn't have the strength to fight against that Blaziken. Orgon could, but he's occupied with the Kommo-o… this is really bad. Wes felt that pressure returning. The heal pulse had been a big miscalculation on his part; clearly Kanone had been saving up his harmonia to direct that power to Phoenix, in order to intercept an attack like that.
He realized that Megan is a support-based pokemon, and focused on weakening Orgon so I would use heal pulse on him… so he could steal it for himself. That requires an incredible amount of foresight. He's an expert trainer!
Wes's instincts as a trainer were fired up. Even though he was warped by Samarra and cared more about winning than the inherent challenge, he still felt that urge inside of him. Not even she could suppress it completely.
"Megan!" He shouted. "Use bulldoze!"
"Meganium!" Megan stomped on the ground, releasing a tremors towards Phoenix.
"Blaziken!" Phoenix leapt into the air, avoiding the tremors with his powerful leg strength. At the same time, he opened his beak and fired a blast of flames at the Meganium, lighting her ablaze.
"Rrgh," Wes winced, feeling the burning sensation of Phoenix's flamethrower. He might have been a physical attacker, but the special move still stung. Megan was pretty bulk though, and was able to shake it off quite well.
It's fine. I predicted that the first attack would miss, Wes reminded himself, so he didn't panic. It's all part of the plan. We just have to wait for the moment he lands back down…
Phoenix landed back on the ground as the shaking stopped. The second he did, Megan was upon him, charging forward and raising her front legs.
"Stomping tantrum!" Wes roared.
"Meganium!" She struck Phoenix with her legs, kicking out and knocking Phoenix backwards. Kanone clutched his stomach and stumbled back, feeling the overwhelming power of the stomping tantrum attack. Because her bulldoze had missed, the power of the move had doubled. And since it was a Ground type attack, it did massive damage. Most of the health Phoenix had regained from the heal pulse had been sapped away.
At the same time, Orgon moved forward to counter Komei's attacks. He dodged under the Kommo-o's dragon claw and raised his fist, hitting Komei in the jaw with an ice punch.
"Kommo-o!" Komei tanked through the ice punch even though his defense had been lowered. Wes ground his teeth in frustration.
How powerful is that fucking thing?! He growled, clenching his fist. The Kommo-o had taken an absurd amount of abuse, but he just wouldn't go down!
Komei swung his fist up in a sky uppercut, knocking Orgon into the air. With a roar, Orgon landed on his back, rolling over and dodging Komei's follow-up punch, lashing out with a blast of water from his fangs that Komei avoided.
The two pokemon were surprisingly equally matched. Neither one could full finish off the other; Orgon was weakening, though, and Wes could feel it. He'd taken a lot of damage from those last few attacks, and couldn't hold on much longer.
That Kommo-o is power incarnate. We need more strength… more!
As if on cue, Orgon began to glow with a blue aura. He threw back his head and unleashed a deafening roar that shook the trees of Agate Village.
"His Torrent activated," Marion said, biting her lip. "All of that Feraligatr's Water type attacks will receive a serious boost."
"But that should be fine, right?" Lila asked worriedly. "A-After all… Dragon type pokemon resist Water type moves, don't they, Darla?"
"That's true," Darla agreed. "But remember, this is a double battle. That Kommo-o isn't the only pokemon Kanone's fighting with."
Lila gasped. "Oh, no! You're right! He's also got his Blaziken!"
The other Fighting type pokemon was part Fire type. With that typing, he had serious vulnerabilities to Orgon's Water type moves.
Kanone didn't seem to care much about that, though.
"Blaze kick!" He shouted. Phoenix ignored Orgon completely, charging at Megan. The Meganium didn't have the speed to avoid Phoenix's attacks, even with the paralysis as a factor. Phoenix pulled his leg back and swung, hitting Megan in the neck and knocking her over.
"Meganium!" Megan wailed, rolling through the grass. She picked herself back up, panting, and lowered her head. She began to glow as well.
And if that wasn't enough, she used protect as well. A green barrier of light appeared around the Meganium, protecting her from Orgon's tidal wave.
"And that's Overgrow, then," Alcea said, biting her lip. "A lethal ability for Grass type pokemon, is it? Like Torrent, all the Grass type moves will be strengthened…"
Both Marion and Alcea remembered the brutal display Bagun put on with his Blaze ability. It was fresh in their minds. Now both his other pokemon were pulling off similar abilities.
"Orgon!" Wes snarled. "Use surf!"
"Feraligatr!" Glowing blue, Orgon raised his claws, summoning a massive tidal wave to sweep over the battlefield. It didn't even matter that the Water type attack would hit his partner; Megan's Grass type would allow her to endure well.
"Phoenix, get to Komei, now," Kanone shouted. "Komei, use protect!"
Phoenix leapt towards Komei, rolling behind the Dragon type pokemon. At the same time, Komei held his arms up defensively and a gray barrier the same color as his scales appeared around him, protecting both pokemon from the tidal wave.
"You need better than that," Kanone smirked. The wave crashed down without any effect on anyone, to Wes's frustration.
"Orgon!" He shouted. "Aqua jet!" He wasn't going to let it end like this. The water rose up and wrapped around the Feraligatr, forming a massive tidal surge. He charged forward, pushing through the air with the force of his attack. Megan kept her distance as the barrier around Kanone's pokemon faded.
Kanone knew exactly where he would be attacking.
He's going for Phoenix! Not good.
"Komei!" Kanone cried. "Use superpower!"
It was one of the strongest moves in his pokemon's arsenal. It came with a significant cost, as well, a massive reduction in his pokemon's physical attack and defense. But it was powerful. Komei focused all his energy into his fist and swung with all his might, unleashing a massive shockwave through the air. The sky tore apart and Orgon was smashed with a powerful shockwave. He roared in pain and flew back, the water around him broken.
He overcame the speed of aqua jet?! Wes's eyes bulged in shock. He never would have expected something like that! It seemed impossible!
"F… Feraligatr…" Orgon tried to stand, but the energy in his body was all but extinguished. He panted, the blue aura around him flaring up even brighter, but… it didn't seem to be enough.
"Kommo-o…" Komei also felt drained, weakened from the effect of the superpower. But he had done what he needed to do, blunting Orgon's attack while doing serious damage.
Kanone smiled. He had Wes's Feraligatr just where he wanted him!
"Phoenix!" He shouted.
"Blaziken!" Phoenix erupted from the ground beneath Orgon's feat, his claws bared and sharp. The Feraligatr gasped, stumbling back in surprise. But he was so caught off-guard, he couldn't react in time. Phoenix slashed with everything he had, striking at Orgon's throat.
So he hid his Blaziken underground with dig, when his Kommo-o used protect! And then used his bulk to keep me from seeing it! Wes winced. He was having a hard time to breathe. But soon enough the air returned to his lungs.
After all, the pokemon of his whose throat had gotten hit had fainted.
Wes returned Orgon to his pokeball. His fourth pokemon was done. He only had two left. Kanone had seized a decisive advantage.
So that leaves… Wes took a deep breath and concentrated his harmonia, taking a pokeball off of his belt.
"Giraud!" He shouted, flinging the pokeball into the air.
"TYRANITAR!" A monstrous pokemon capable of matching Komei's power emerged from within, and the entire village shook.
Wes has been pushed to the brink! His strongest pokemon has come out! A powerful trump card in Tyranitar! Will he be able to defeat Wes? Or will Wes's two Fighting type pokemon manage to defeat the Tyranitar, who's four times weak to Fighting type moves? Giraud might be his trump card, but that doesn't mean he'll be able to pull it off. The battle is quickly approaching the climax!
