Ava had decided to stop by the gallery to make a checklist of tasks to complete before opening again. Her heart hurt as she reminded herself that Trina would not be joining her since she went ahead and accepted the internship at the chuck. It had broken her heart to fire Trina, but the girl's safety was important to her. Besides, Trina was going to leave the gallery sooner or later anyway to move on to better things. She was just moving things along. She locked up the gallery and glanced across the street and was startled by the sight of Spencer inside the jewelry store. Curious, she made her way over and entered the store to see that Spencer was eyeing the engagement rings. She frowned, even more curious now. Trina had told her that there had been some movement in her relationship with Spencer, but Ava had no idea that it was this far.
"Spencer? Are you looking at engagement rings?" Ava came up to stand next to him, her eyes wide and alert.
Spencer jumped, startled by Ava's sudden appearance. "Ava! Hey, what are you doing here?"
"Getting ready to open the gallery again, what are you doing here, that is the question. And looking at engagement rings? I hope that you have a satisfactory explanation, young man. Like, you're helping your uncle look for a ring for Nina perhaps?"
Spencer just laughed nervously and shook his head. "No, I'm not here for Uncle Sonny."
"Well, then why are you here? I mean, certainly, you're not planning to wed that horrible Esme…"
"God no! No, I am definitely not marrying that woman. I don't care if she is holding my brother hostage at the moment. No, I'm definitely not here for Esme. She will be forever alone, hopefully."
Spencer didn't know if Trina would want him to tell Ava, but he could see no way out of this.
"Well, you're not here for your Uncle and you're not planning to wed the hellspawn, then why are you here ogling engagement rings as if you're...wait...no...no. No, I forbid it, you cannot marry Trina. You both are far too young!" Ava shook her head in denial. She knew that Trina had some pretty strong feelings for Spencer and he was obviously in love with her, but why would they do something so...big and advanced. They hadn't even gone on a real date yet, according to Trina! She didn't understand.
Spencer winced, not liking Ava's reaction. "Well...it was Trina's idea actually. She thinks that I'll have a better chance of getting custody of my brother if the judge sees that I'm happily married and living in a stable home. Diane agrees with her, so we're getting married...most likely tomorrow since we have to wait twenty-four hours. I just...well...we're not having the big fancy ceremony that girls dream of, but I plan to give her one, I swear. But anyway, I wanted to at least get her a nice engagement ring. Something that fits her...something that says I love you and you're my person and I'm yours. Forever. You know?"
"You Cassadines...you can be so romantic...yet so...stupid sometimes. You both are far too young to get married. You haven't even had your first date yet."
"Well...actually…"
"No, no, no. I can't accept this. This is not happening!"
Spencer sighed and ran a hand through his hair, feeling annoyed. All he wanted to do was get Trina a pretty engagement ring so this could be close to a dream experience for her, but thanks to Ava, it looked like his plans were going to go up smoke.
"Besides, none of these suit Trina. She would never go for any of these. They're too...cliche. She wouldn't want a diamond. She's more of a sapphire girl," Ava pursed her lips thoughtfully. "But it can't be gaudy. She likes the simple things in life. A princess-cut sapphire surrounded by small diamonds on a silver band...perhaps engraved," Ava looked at the jeweler, who was looking at both Ava and Spencer apprehensively, wondering if he was going to have a sale after all. "Do you have anything like that?"
Spencer blinked in surprise. "You're going to help me?"
"Well, I know Trina. If this was her idea, there will be no talking her out of it. So I might as well help you pick out something she'll like."
Spencer wanted to thank Ava for her help, but the jeweler returning with a case of sapphire engagement rings drew his attention.
"Are these satisfactory?" The jeweler asked.
Spencer eyed the rings carefully, looking for the right one. Ava was right about one thing. Trina did not like flashy, gaudy things. She was a simple girl. That's the kind of ring he needed. Something simple, yet beautiful, just like Trina herself. He spotted the perfect ring in the last row. It was a princess-cut sapphire surrounded by diamonds with a simple silver band.
"That one, right there," Spencer pointed.
"Shall I have it engraved, sir?"
"Yes. I want it to say...You're sweeter than ginger snaps. Love always, Spencer."
"You're sweeter than ginger snaps?" Ava gave him an amused look.
"She'll get it," Spencer chuckled. "Thank you, Ava. I would have ended up getting her a boring diamond if it hadn't been for you."
"You thank me by making her happy. Do you hear me? I still think that you're both too young, but I can't judge."
One hour later, the ring sat in a white satin box, ready to be presented to his bride-to-be. Spencer pocketed the box after paying for everything, his mind making plans as he went. Ava stopped him again as they stepped out of the store.
"I only have one thing to say, one piece of advice. "Never lie to her. Always be truthful. Even if the truth hurts. That's the only way your love will last."
Spencer nodded, taking out his phone as it buzzed. "I'll keep that in mind…."
Trina: Where are you?
Spencer: I'm...shopping. Where are you? Can I see you?
Trina: I just got finished shopping for groceries.
Spencer: Meet me at Kelly's.
Trina: Why?
Spencer: Just be there. I'm on my way now.
Spencer looked up from his phone and smiled. "I really appreciate your help, Ava. But now I have to go see a girl."
"Yeah, yeah. Behave yourself and take care of her. That's an order."
Spencer watched as Ava hailed a taxi to take her to the docks so she could return to Wyndemere. Then he made his way to Kelly's, ready to present Trina with the prize in his pocket.
…..
Trina entered the back patio of Kelly's looking around for any sign of Spencer. She knew that he preferred the patio to the interior of the diner and she understood it. It felt so much more private back here. As if one was hiding from the world.
So far, there was no sign of him. Frowning, she took a seat at the table and waited, knowing that he'll show up sooner or later.
"Trina," Spencer walked through the gate, his face lighting up as he smiled.
"Hey, you got here at last," Trina smiled, standing up from her chair to go greet him. "Why did you want to meet here? Did something happen with Ace?"
"No, there's no news on the Ace front. But I did need to see you."
"Why?"
Spencer's smile was nervous as he ran a trembling hand through his hair. "I...um...I've got something for you. Something that I think you'll like."
"You didn't have to get me anything."
"I wanted to. I mean...I know this getting married thing is less than ideal. I bet you had pictured something completely different. Engagement ring. A party. A big wedding ceremony and reception...the works, right?"
Trina sighed and shook her head. She did have a dream of what her wedding day and the events approaching it would be like, but that had been a dream. This was real life. She could let the dream go. The important thing was marrying the man she loved and rescuing a baby from a psychopath.
"What I had in my head is not important. What we're doing now, in real life, that's what matters."
"I know...but...I still want to make your dream come true, Trina. At least some of it."
"Spencer...I don't understand. What are you getting at here?"
Spencer pulled out the white satin ring box and presented it to Trina. "Um, Ava found me looking at rings and she helped me pick out one that would suit you...but the engraving is all my idea…," He opened the box to reveal the sapphire engagement ring.
Trina gasped and stared in shock. "Oh my god...Spencer, it's...it's gorgeous. It must have cost you a fortune."
"Only the best for my bride-to-be," Spencer chuckled. "Here, read the inscription," He took the ring out of the box and held it up so Trina could see the words engraved on the inside of the band.
"You're sweeter than ginger snaps. Love always, Spencer...oh my god. Spencer, this is….so much...I can't possibly accept this...it's…"
"It's yours. You deserve it for all I've put you through and we're skipping so much, I wanted to make sure that you had something special beforehand…."
Trina felt tears fill her eyes as she looked at the ring and read the inscription over and over again. He really did love her and she loved him so much. She wished that she had something for him. Something that would say how much she loved him. "Thank you…"
Spencer took the ring and slid it onto her ring finger. "I'm going to make you happy, Trina. I promise."
"You've already made me happy. After all, I've found out about my mother and her lies, I should be miserable, but thanks to you, I'm happier than I've ever been. I feel so...loved and taken care of...and that's all because of you, Spencer. No one has ever loved me like this before."
"I can't believe that. You're the most lovable person I know," He gently touched her cheek, feeling his heart beat just a little bit faster.
Trina chuckled. "I'm like that Alanis Morrisette song. Head over feet. That's how much I've fallen for you."
"You're not the only one. I've been head over feet for you since the moment we met. I didn't know who you were, but I knew that my world had changed somehow."
Trina was too choked up with tears to say anything else. All she could do was wrap her arms around his neck and kiss him long and deep, conveying her love for him. She had no doubts at all about their upcoming nuptials and the life they were to have together. Spencer was her person. She had no doubts about that at all.
I had no choice but to hear you
You stated your case time and again
I thought about it
You treat me like I'm a princess
I'm not used to liking that
You ask how my day was
You've already won me over in spite of me
Don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
Don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it
It's all your fault
Your love is thick and it swallowed me whole
You're so much braver than I gave you credit for
That's not lip service
You've already won me over in spite of me
And don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
And don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it
It's all your fault
You are the bearer of unconditional things
You held your breath and the door for me
Thanks for your patience
You're the best listener that I've ever met
You're my best friend
Best friend with benefits
What took me so long?
I've never felt this healthy before
I've never wanted something rational
I am aware now
I am aware now
You've already won me over in spite of me
Don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
And don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it
It's all your fault
You've already won me over in spite of me
And don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
And don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it
It's all your fault
