"Esme Prince is dead!" Maxie exclaimed, looking as if she had just run a marathon.
"What? Can you repeat that?" Spencer frowned, not able to believe what he had just heard.
"Esme Prince is dead. She was found on the shore of Spoon Island this morning, her throat slashed!" Maxie filled them in. "Spoon Island has been crawling with cops ever since! Oh my god, wasn't she staying with your grandmother on house arrest?"
"We better get over to grandmother's and see what's going on…"
"Oh she's probably at Spoon Island by now," Maxie stated.
Spencer didn't know what to do. He wanted to go to Spoon Island and see what was going on himself and he knew that Trina was going to want to join him, but he didn't want to take Ace over to a scene like that.
"I'll watch the baby if you guys want to go check it out," Maxie offered, knowing that the four young adults had been the victims of the now-murdered Esme.
"Are you sure, Maxie? One of us can…," Spencer began, but Maxie simply held her arms out for Ace.
"I am positive and you're in luck. I am an expert on babies nowadays. I'll take good care of Ace."
"Thank you so much. We won't be long. We just need to check it out for ourselves…"
"Oh, I understand perfectly. When someone tortures you relentlessly and they die, you need to see the body for yourselves," Maxie nodded, remembering her struggles with Peter and the relief that had filled her when he finally was gone from the world. She knew that the four young adults were about to experience the same sense of relief.
"We'll take my car," Cam offered, leading the way out of the restaurant.
…..
The police were indeed all over Spoon Island, just like Maxie had said. Trina and Spencer kept their hands gripped in each other's as they made their way to where Laura and Ava were standing, watching the police look for more clues on who had committed the crime.
"Grandmother! What happened?" Spencer called out, drawing Laura's attention away from Ava. Both women came over to the foursome.
"What are you four doing here? This is no place for young people at the moment," Ava questioned.
"Maxie Jones told us that Esme was found dead. Is that true?" Spencer questioned, hoping that his voice didn't sound as gleeful as he was trying not to feel.
"I'm afraid it is. I didn't even know she had left last night. She knew that she was on house arrest, that she wasn't supposed to go anywhere. Right now, Robert and Jordan or trying to bring up the tracker motions to see where she went last night. Maybe figure out what had happened and why," Laura explained. "Thank goodness that Ace wasn't with her…wait...where is Ace?"
"Maxie is watching him. She knew we'd want to see what's going on with Esme and offered."
"This is so scary. Do they have a suspect on who had done this?" Trina asked.
Laura shook her head. "No idea. Not yet anyway."
"It could have been anyone. Esme had a lot of enemies," Joss replied. "I'm just glad she's gone. She has done all of us a world of hurt."
"Can we...can we see the body?" Spencer asked, almost reluctantly. "I want to make sure that it's real. That she won't suddenly wake up and be a problem again."
"Maybe we shouldn't," Trina frowned, feeling frozen in place. She was not in a hurry to see a dead body. Even if it was Esme. "I mean...we've been through so much already. I don't know if we should pile on more."
"I'll stay with Trina if you and Joss want to go see the body," Cam placed a hand on Trina's shoulder, also reluctant to view a dead body.
Spencer looked at them both, wondering if it was a good idea. He could just step back and just be satisfied that the master manipulator was out of their lives for good. But still...he had to see. He had to be sure. "Fine. Josslyn and I will go view the body if we can. It shouldn't take too long."
"Spencer," Trina grabbed his arm, not wanting him to go.
"I'll be fine. Stay here with Cam. He'll take care of you," Spencer leaned down and gave her a short kiss before walking away with Joss and his grandmother.
"He's already seen his Uncle get blown up. What will seeing Esme's body do to him?" Trina frowned.
Cameron wrapped an around his friend's shoulder, trying to comfort her. "Spencer will be alright, Trina. He's strong. He'll deal with it."
…..
When Spencer and Joss returned, only Joss was wearing a huge smile.
"Ding dong, the witch is really dead!" Joss laughed, nearly dancing in place. "Finally, her reign of terror is over at last!"
"So it was her," Cam sighed, feeling...not happy, but not sad either.
"It was her," was Spencer's grim reply. He didn't know how to feel. Sad because he had once loved her. Happy, because she was now out of Ace's life and couldn't use him in one of her schemes. Angry, because he couldn't do it himself? He just didn't know how to react.
"What does this mean for Ace?" Trina questioned, also thinking of the baby that was now in their care.
"He stays with us full time, I guess. I'll have to talk to Diane," Spencer shrugged, his arms taking the place of Cameron's.
"I should talk to Mom. Maybe we can have an Esme's dead party at The Savoy! That would be lit," Joss happily grinned. "Be expecting invitations guys! This is a happy day!"
"Joss," Cameron sighed, feeling weird for being happy that someone was murdered. "She was violently murdered. Should we really be celebrating that?"
"Oh come on, Cam! None of us are mourning her! Plus, this means that Ace is free from her! That kid won't have to worry about being used as a pawn in Esme's game! I'm sure that both Spencer and Trina are relieved about that!"
"I hate to have to agree with Joss, but I'm glad that my brother is once and for all safe from her," Spencer shrugged.
"Come on. You can even bring Reasia Ward. I'm sorry about my behavior by the way. I'm not used to other girls getting your attention and...I kind of got territorial."
Cameron sighed and rolled her eyes. "If there's a party, let me know and I'll be there."
"Trina? Spencer? Come on, we may not be BFFs anymore, but we're still friends and Esme had terrorized all of us. We deserve this party."
"We'll see. That's all I can say," Trina shrugged, still not happy with Joss, but also feeling relieved that Esme was finally out of their lives, once and for all.
"Trina! Spencer!" Laura and Jordan approached the small group, both of their faces grim.
"Yes, Grandmother?" Spencer turned to face Laura.
"We have some news about Esme's movements last night," Laura cleared her throat, then looked at Jordan, who gave a nod before stepping forward.
"We tracked her movements last night and they were quite...disturbing. The first thing she did when she left the penthouse was go to your house. She was standing out there for a good while. We even looked at the CTV cameras and we saw her standing outside of your house, but never going in," Jordan explained.
"What the hell...Trina...you said you felt like someone was watching you last night when you went to get Ace from the nursery," Spencer looked at his wife, who felt a shiver go down her spine.
"Do you think that was Esme?" Trina's voice was full of fear, not liking that Esme had been standing outside their house watching them.
"It must have been," Spencer frowned. "But she never knocked on the door or anything."
"That's because two dark figures grabbed her and took her away. According to the monitor, it was a mile away from your house in some wooded area. They had found a backpack full of her and Ace's belongings and a pool of blood. We assume that the blood was Esme's."
"She was going to kidnap the baby! Whoever grabbed her had stopped her from breaking in and taking Ace! I'm sure of it!" Spencer gasped.
"Oh my god," Trina shook her head, feeling sick to her stomach.
"They also had somehow removed the monitor and left it with her belongings. We suspect that they killed her in those woods, then dumped the body off the docks and that's how it ended up here on Spoon Island," Jordan finished explaining.
"Do they even suspect who was responsible? I'd like to give them a cash reward of some kind," Spencer questioned.
"Spencer!" Laura gasped in shock.
"I'm sorry, Grandmother! But she was obviously coming for Ace and who knows what else she had planned! Whoever took her out saved Ace! They may even have saved our lives! I'm not going to say that I'm sorry to see her go! I'm not going to be sorry that they saved my family! I'm not!" Spencer pulled Trina to him in a tight hug, as if doing so would protect her from all threats.
"I think we're all really freaked out by all of this and should go home and let this news sink in," Cameron suggested.
"Good idea, man," Spencer nodded, feeling concerned for Trina, who looked a bit out of it at the moment. "I want to get Trina and Ace home."
"Party at The Savoy?" Joss asked, still determined to celebrate that Esme and her evil were forever out of their lives.
Cameron sighed and shrugged. "That's up to you. I'm going home, I have to work tonight."
"Yeah, it's off to Kelly's to pick up Ace from Maxie, maybe get some food from Kelly's and head home," Spencer nodded, ignoring all talk of a party.
"I'll be by to see you later," Laura patted Spencer's cheek and gave Cameron a big hug. "You boys just relax and take care of your family, alright?"
The foursome waved goodbye and headed back to the mainland, where they all went their separate ways, except for Spencer and Trina who went to Kelly's to retrieve Ace and order two orders of soup and two BLTs and a giant sharable chocolate cake. Then they too headed for home, just wanting to put this day behind them.
