"Stay here," Black Widow said hurriedly, before getting up and hurrying out the door, locking it as she left. "Where does she think I'm going to go?" Percy said to himself. He was tied to a chair. I literally can't move. But what was going on? Alarms were still blasting through the stronghold, very loudly at that. Can't they turn those things off?
Coincidentally at that exact moment, the alarms stopped. Percy squinted at the glass suspiciously. Can they read my mind? Just as he was contemplating this very deep and logical thought, the door burst open. Percy flinched away on instinct, thinking it may be a monster that had broken in. But as he peaked over to the doorway, he saw someone much better.
Jason smirked at him before running over at beginning to untie Percy's binds.
"Dude, how did you find me?" Percy asked, as Jason got his arms free. "Oh, you know, a random guy I meant in the park told me I was too serious, so naturally I decided to check the sky, the usual," he said casually, finishing untying him.
Percy blinked at him. "Should I even ask?" "Nope, now let's go before they come back," Jason said before exiting the room. Percy shook his bewilderment away before following his friend, then realised and shouted, "Did you say check the sky? Are we in a ship?!" "Yep! Now come on!" was his answer. Percy was so lost but ran after him nonetheless.
They ran down the corridor as quietly as they could. "This way," Jason said, turning down a corridor, and immediately running into about 12 agents, all loaded with guns. "Okay, not this way," he said, coming to a hasty halt. "Let's try the other way," Percy said. "Wow, who would have thought of that," Jason stated sarcastically, before they both backtracked at full speed in the other direction, shots being fired after them.
"Hey, sarcasm is my thing, since when were you so snarky?" Percy said in surprise and mock hurt. "Guess you're rubbing off on me," Jason replied, as they made another turn. "I've been told that's a bad thing," Percy said. "Yeah, probably," Jason agreed, with a smirk on his face as he sped up. "Hey!" Percy yelled, dashing to catch up with him.
As he rounded the corner, he found Jason halted at a large window that covered the entire wall, so Percy could see the darkness outside and hear the rain lashing down. The corners going left and right were both filled with agents.
They froze in place, neither side moving. Then, Eye-Patch and Black Widow stepped forward, both armed with guns like the rest of them.
"Surrender yourselves, you're clearly outnumbered," Eye-Patch stated, leaving no room for argument, so of course Percy found room to argue. "Maybe," he said nonchalantly, "but you are clearly outmatched."
And with that, Jason launched himself at the agents, Percy right behind him.
They had no chance. Before Eye-Patch and Black Widow could even comprehend what was happening, they had taken out half the agents there. Once they pulled themselves together, they joined the fight. Even with this addition, Percy still thought they were winning, which was why of course something then had to go wrong.
"Don't move, or your friend won't be able to anymore," a voice said from behind Percy. He turned and saw Hawkeye holding Jason with his hands behind his back and an arrow pointed at his neck, the point resting on his throat. Percy glared at him, but stopped fighting. All the agents swarmed around him, raising their guns to his face.
"Good," Hawkeye said, "now, get on the ground with your hands behind your head."
Percy continued to glare at him, but slowly did as he was told. "No Percy! Don't!" Jason yelled, before being silenced by the arrow being pushed further into his neck. Percy was fuming, all he could hear was his own heartbeat and angry breathing and-
the rain.
His eyes widened. He didn't want them to know about his powers and risk giving them more information than they already had on him, but what choice did he have? Now or never, I guess.
Just as the agents advanced on him, he felt the tug of the water from outside. Closing his eyes, he blocked out everything else, and only focused on the rain.
His eyes sprang open as water crashed through the glass wall. Agents were too caught off guard to move, and so were swept down the corridors, yells following them.
Hawkeye, Black Widow and Eye-Patch recovered more quickly and were able to stop themselves from being swept away by grabbing on to anything within arm's reach, but Jason was able to use this distraction to escape from Hawkeye's grip, dash forward to Percy, and grab onto him before leaping out the window.
Yells cried after them but Jason carried on, soaring through the skies. "Nice save, Jackson," Jason said while laughing. "You too, Grace," Percy responded with a smile of his own.
Just as they were about 50 metres away, Percy heard something wiz through the air, and they began to plummet to Earth.
...
"Jason!" Percy yelled over the wind. He was out cold. Not good, not good, not good!
Just as panic was overcoming his senses, something slammed into him, hard. He looked up to see Iron Guy holding onto him and Jason. "Awe, Tartarus," Percy said, letting his head fall while being flown back to the floating ship.
He saw Hawkeye with his bow out. So, he must have been the one to shoot Jason. He gave him a death stare, and could've sworn he saw him flinch a little.
They landed through the window they smashed seconds prior and were immediately pushed to the ground, causing Percy to grunt. "Try that again and we might not catch you," Eye-Patch threatened. Oh, so scary. It was kind of scary though. Percy did not feel in the mood to become a demigod pancake.
"Take them to the Hulk cell," he ordered the agents holding them. Before Percy could make some snarky comment, he felt a familiar prick in his neck. "Oh for Hades' sake," he said before passing out once more.
...
Jason woke up feeling dizzy. He pushed himself up and swayed. Too fast. He looked around him and found he was lying on a platform, and noticed Percy lying passed out on the floor about 15 feet over. He quickly got up and walked over. "Percy!" he called, but before he could get to him, he walked into yet another invisible wall. "Oh for the love of-" Jason yelled angrily. Someone is definitely doing this on purpose.
He put his hand out and felt glass, and the more he looked at it, he could make out his reflection in it too. He knocked on it, as if to test its stability. He then hit it harder, hurting his hand in the process, but tried to act tough and bit his lip through the pain. He remembered them saying this was a 'Hulk' cage, but he didn't know what a Hulk was.
Just then the door across the room he didn't notice until now opened and that red head lady walked in.
"You took quite a fall back there. How are you feeling?" she asked, walking over to him. Jason glared at her but said nothing. She sighed, like this was a usual response. "Alright, I'm going to cut to the chase. Who are you?"
Again, Jason didn't answer, just continued to stare at her. "I'm guessing you two know each other," she said, gesturing to Percy. "Probably why you risked your life to save him. Although, I guess orders are orders, right?" she asked, still watching him from the corner of her eyes but beginning to slowly pace up and down the walkway she was on.
Jason narrowed his eyes at her. What is she on about? "Or maybe," she continued, "it's because he knows too much, and you couldn't risk him exposing your secrets." Jason took a step forward, anger beginning to seep into him. "I saved him because he is my friend, and there is no way I would let him die."
She stopped and looked at him curiously before continuing her pacing and saying, "You are quite convincing, impressive, but you don't need to be. No one can hurt you here." She stopped in front of his cell, looking sincerely at him. "We can protect you, but you need to talk to us," she said, her eyes gazing at him honestly.
Jason... had no idea what to make of this. He hadn't a clue what she was talking about, or what she wanted him to say. "I... literally have no idea, what you are talking about," he said. The woman frowned at him, clearly thinking he was lying. She sighed. "We can't help you if you don't help us," she said, taking a step closer to him.
Jason raised his hands in surrender, a slight laugh escaping him as he said, "Honestly lady, I wish I could at this point, but I don't know what you're on about or what you want from me." She stared at him for a moment. He shrugged. "Sorry." That made her gaze darken.
At this point though, Percy began to stir beside him. Jason's head whipped round as he got to his feet. They made eye contact, then Percy looked at the red head.
"Oh, so you've met Miss Widow," he said casually as he stretched his arms above his head. She glared at him. "How did you both do it?" she asked. "Do what?" Percy said, not really paying attention. "You could fly," she said gesturing to Jason, before turning to Percy and saying, "and you could control the water. That's not normal," she stated. "As I said to your friend earlier," Percy responded, with a smile on his face, "we're built different."
She looked between the two, before putting on the most threatening expression Jason had ever seen; on a mortal any way. He had seen scarier on others, Percy being one of them, but for a mortal it was a pretty good attempt.
"People don't just have powers like that. So there must be a reason you were born with them... unless, you were given them?" Here we go, back to the weird statements again.
"You don't really expect us to just tell you everything about ourselves, do you?" Jason asked. "You will if you ever want out of here," she said seriously. The two looked at each other, then back at the woman. "I'll leave you two to think over that for a bit," she said before marching out of the room.
Percy began walking round the cell as Jason collapsed on the floor. He hit the walls just as Jason did earlier, looking in each corner for a way out, to which he found none, before giving up and joining Jason on the floor.
"Nice save, Jackson," Jason said, quoting their earlier escape.
"You too, Grace," he replied, rolling his eyes.
...
"So what do we think?" Clint asked as Natasha walked in.
"I don't know. There is definitely something up with them," Nat replied, brow furrowed. "You mean that wasn't obvious from the fact that that kid could fly? Or that our guy created a tidal wave out of rain?" Tony exclaimed, sat down in a chair.
"How did they do that?" Steve wondered aloud. "I don't know," Fury began, "But what I do know is that they are extremely powerful, and therefore extremely dangerous. We need to keep them contained and under high supervision until we figure out what's going on."
"Wait," Steve interjected, "I don't think that's a good idea." Fury sighed. "I know your feelings on this, Rodgers, but for the safety of the people-"
"I agree with Steve." Everyone turned to Clint. "From what I could tell, and I'm sure Nat would agree, these kids aren't bad. If we're right and they are a part of some child-soldier organisation, they've probably been forced into it and need our help."
"They didn't seem so keen for our help when Nat interrogated them," Tony chipped in. "No," Nat agreed, "but it didn't feel like they didn't want help; they seemed more confused than anything, but I suppose they could just be highly trained for this sort of thing, so they would know exactly what to say."
"Jackson appeared very closed off. Not answering questions when they got too personal, but he also seemed almost... worried at one point, maybe even scared. When I mentioned having a weird life-"
"I also believe you called us 'overpowered idiots'? That's not very nice, Barton, I was very offended by that remark," Tony said, leaning forward on the table and setting his head on his hands.
"-he seemed to react," Clint continued, ignoring Tony. "And said how he related to that, but refused to say anymore, as if he had already said too much, and was too afraid to open his mouth lest he say something else."
Fury frowned at this, folding his arms, thinking. "What do you think then?" he asked no one in particular.
A pause, then, "We need to help them," Steve replied. "If they are being forced into being soldiers, and can't actually ask for help for fear of what we or their organisation might do, we need to get them to trust us; get them to tell us what is going on, without us forcing them. As we've seen, that doesn't work." Hawkeye nodded. "I agree."
Fury looked between them all, before sighing and saying, "Alright, what do you propose we do to 'gain their trust'?"
They all exchanged looks before Steve said, "We will not keep them in cages, but take them to the tower instead." Tony spat out the coffee he definitely didn't have a second ago.
"Absolutely not, that is a major security risk," Fury said instantly. Nat frowned. "That is a very risky move, Rodgers. What will stop them from trying to escape?" Steve grinned. "Trust." Tony groaned. "Ugh, you can be really cringy sometimes, Cap," he said while taking a sip of his coffee.
"They would be under our surveillance at all times, and it's not like we would let them leave the building," Clint added. "Plus, there is no way they could defeat The Avengers."
"They almost did, twice," Fury pointed out, unconvinced by their negotiation. "Key word being almost," Tony noted, pointing at him.
Fury looked at each of them individually for a good few minutes before eventually sighing and giving in. "Fine, you may take them to the tower. But you must try to figure out everything they know, got it?"
They all nodded. "Good. Dismissed."
