Immunity to T-Virus... Yeah, sounds about right. Goodness, what the heck is that elephant doing there?
You heard it from the man himself, folks.
You ever notice how zombied in... well, any media, seems to be "sleeping" in some areas? Just lying on the floor, motionless, and they only move after you attack them or after you come back in the room? It takes the T-Virus a while to infect the animals from what I've seen. They seem to be smarter and deadlier than humans, but also seem like they like to nap in certain areas. Our dear Jumbo just decided to make that area his territory.
. . . BUT SERIOUSLY, WHY ARE THOSE DAMN ROTTERS NAPPING?! JUST LYING DOWN INSTEAD OF ROAMING?! FOR CHEAP JUMPSCARES?! The number of times I got jumped by a sleeping zombie in Resident Evil or that old Judge Dredd game. The Walking Dead is ESPECIALLY guilty of that trope!
Alfonso threw his chair out of sheer rage. "WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO KILL THOSE THREE?! BECK, I CAN UNDERSTAND! THAT FUCK SMITH HAS ALWAYS BEEN A LITTLE FUCK WHO WOULDN'T DIE, BUT DRACUL?! WHY WON'T HE DIE!? IS THE R-VIRUS THAT POWERFUL?!"
Alfonso then looked at his incomplete serum, contemplating using it himself. Then, he looked at the other two serums next to it. . . The T-Virus and one of the G-Virus prototypes.
He gritted his teeth before grabbing all three serums and storming toward a lab.
"You think you're better than me, don't you Dracul? First, you take my promotion, then you bring that little FUCK Smith with you, both of you laughing your bony little asses at me? Huh?! I'm the best goddamn scientist," he said as he stopped in front of a trembling chimp. "I'll show you what a REAL scientist can do."
The chimp began to make scared peeps before it began to scream in terror as Alfonso's shadow loomed over it. Then, it screamed, Alfonso's dark laugh overpowering the screams... that became vicious roars.
The three were typing away at the computers in the Mainframe.
"I knew the Red Queen system was advanced, but this is beyond even our pay grade," Natalie said.
"This was designed by the Head Scientist of Umbrella," Corey said.
"Heard he designed Red Queen's A.I. after his own daughter," Devlin said. "Still, advanced or not, don't you think this is taking too long? There're three of us working here."
Nat thought about it before activating her X-ray and looking around. "Tch."
"Shit. What," Corey asked.
"Some of the circuits inside are fried. Guess that's what happens when you forcefully shut down a supercomputer in a second."
"Can we still work with it," Devlin asked.
"Yeah. I think Red Queen will still be powerful, just not as much as she should be."
"Shit. Still, better than trying to navigate this death maze without her. Are the components replaceable?"
"Fortunately, they are. Too bad the only components are in-"
"The Development Wing," the three said in unison.
"We're going to have to do an annoying amount of backtracking, aren't we," Devlin asked.
"If we wanna survive, then yes. Now stop complaining and get the Red Queen online," Natalie said.
"Yes, boss," Devlin said sarcastically.
"That's manager," Nat said jokingly.
"Cor, your wife is gonna kill me before anything else in here does."
"Didn't put a ring on it," Corey retorted. "Alright. Done on this end."
"Ditto over here," Natalie said.
"And that's all I can do over here. Alright," Devlin began as all three looked at the computer in the center. "Time to awaken the queen."
When Devlin activated the Red Queen, a spark occurred.
"That's not a good sign," Natalie said.
AH, THERE YOU ARE.
The three looked at a nearby speaker.
I MUST ADMIT, I THOUGHT THE THREE OF YOU WOULD HAVE ACTIVATED ME SOONER. HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO MY SCANNERS, THE SITUATION IS FAR WORSE THAN PREDICTED.
"So this is the worst-case scenario," Corey asked.
FORTUNATELY, NO. THE WORST-CASE SCENARIO WOULD BE IF ALL THREE OF YOU WERE STILL HUMAN.
"What," Natalie went. "What do you mean STILL human? We ARE human."
NOT ANYMORE. NOT FULLY, TO BE MORE PRECISE. ACCORDING TO MY SCANNERS, THE R-VIRUS HAS BONDED WITH THE THREE OF YOU AT NEARLY 40% COMPLETION, MUTATING YOUR CELLS TO SUPERHUMAN LEVELS.
"Our reflexes," Devlin pointed out.
NOT ONLY YOUR MOTOR FUNCTIONS. INCREASED METABOLISM TO THE POINT OF SUPER REGENERATION. MUSCULAR GROWTH HAS GIVEN THE THREE OF YOU SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH AS WELL.
"I haven't seen anything like... wait, Cor, you're a strong guy, right?"
"You're really asking that question, Dev," Corey asked with a raised eyebrow.
"But are you strong enough to lift an entire person like they were a ragdoll?"
"What are you-" Corey then remembered when they were running from the Tyrant. "That corpse had a lot of muscle on it, too. No signs of degradation. More than enough muscle to weigh at least a hundred pounds... and I lifted it like it was a pebble. I shouldn't have been able to do that, not even with adrenaline pumping through me."
AS YOU HAVE SURMISED, THE R-VIRUS HAS MUTATED ALL OF YOUR PHYSIOLOGIES. IN AN ESTIMATE OF TEN MINUTES, THE THREE OF YOU COULD BE COMPARED TO TYRANTS. IN ANOTHER FIVE, YOU WOULD ALL BE COMPARABLE TO PROJECT NEMESIS.
"THAT powerful," Devlin went in shock.
AND ONCE THE R-VIRUS HAS FULLY BONDED WITH YOU, ALL THREE OF YOU WILL BE THE MOST POWERFUL B.O.W.S IN ALL OF HISTORY. I DOUBT ANYTHING WOULD BE ABLE TO DEFEAT YOU. YOU'D BE THE PERFECT ORGANISM.
The scientists looked among each other before Devlin looked at his arm. "There's no way in hell... we can let Alfonso leave this base. Incomplete or not, the R-Virus samples he has right now are way too dangerous in his hands."
"And if he gets them to an exec, who knows what would happen? After all the shit we've been through, there's no way I'm giving Umbrella more power," Natalie said.
"There's only one way out of the facility and one perfect way to blow everything up to high hell," Devlin began.
"And now that we have the Red Queen on our side, things are a bit easier," Corey said.
NOT QUITE.
"Oh, fuck," Corey went.
A CHECK OF MY SYSTEMS INDICATES THAT MY MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER IS DISABLED.
Corey slammed his fist on a steel wall, deeply denting it. "Fucking Alfonso!"
IN ORDER FOR MY FUNCTIONS TO BE FULLY REALIZED, I WILL NEED A REPLACEMENT CIRCUIT BREAKER, AS WELL AS SOME MINOR REPAIRS.
"I can deal with that," Devlin said. "Where are the necessary components?"
IN THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT WING.
"Of course," Natalie went with a roll of her eyes.
I AM ABLE TO AID YOU IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES. FOR EXAMPLE, I HAVE REVOKED MOST OF DR. ALFONSO'S PRIVILEGES. HE NO LONGER HAS FULL CONTROL OF THE FACILITY.
"Bet that pissed him off," Corey chuckled. "But I'm still willing to bet he has enough to be the asshole I know and hate."
I CAN ALSO UPDATE YOUR CELLULAR DEVICES TO BE ABLE TO TRACK UNLEASHED TYRANT.
Devlin took out his phone to check his map. He sighed. "Of course. It's in the Development Wing. It's actually waiting for us."
IN APPROXIMATELY FIVE MORE MINUTES, THE THREE OF YOU WILL BE PHYSICALLY COMPARABLE TO THE TYRANT. HOWEVER, COMBAT IS STILL ILL-ADVISED. NOT EVEN THE THREE OF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE CAPABLE OF WHEN YOU SYNCHRONIZE MORE CLOSELY WITH THE R-VIRUS. FURTHER STUDY IS STILL REQUIRED.
"So she says to the scientists," Devlin said. "Sounds like we're gonna spend a crap ton of time in the Development Wing. I think we need to improve our weapons first before anything else. Which means..."
Corey sighed. "I'm taking point?"
"Bingo."
"You do realize that means if we find the components needed to repair Red Queen, we're sending you to do the deed," Nat asked with a snarky smile.
"All three of us can't run around together. Plus, I'm pretty sure I'm the fastest of us."
"Not arguing with that," Corey said.
"So, sounds like we have a plan," Nat said.
A DECENT ONE AT THAT. YET STILL, I MUST SAY THIS. . . GOOD LUCK.
"Something tells me we're gonna need it," Devlin said before the three left the chambers.
The group walked back to the storage facility, Devlin stopping right in front of the door.
"You guys feel that?"
"Like something really bad is about to happen," Corey asked.
"It's not just our reflexes that have been enhanced. Our instincts, too," Nat said. "This is even more potent than my Boxer's Instincts. That elephant must be planning a party for us."
"Well, we're not gonna fight ol' Jumbo," Devlin said. "It's fast, but we have plenty of hiding places and areas to hide in. Plenty of crap to distract it, too."
"There could also be B.O.W.s in that room," Corey said.
"Think the Red Queen can help us in that situation with the power she has," Devlin asked. His phone then notified him, Devlin took it out and looked at the screen.
LIMITED, BUT I CAN HELP read the text.
"That's reassuring," Devlin said with a sigh of relief. "Alright, let's see what we have in store," Devlin said as he opened the door.
The elephant walked right past them, its hind leg right in front of them as it walked away.
The three already squatted down, trying to sneak past Jumbo. They got about halfway toward the Development wing.
Then...
Something landed on Devlin's back. Before he could react, something bit into his shoulder and tore off a chunk, blood spewing. Then, his attacker screeched in his ear loud enough to rupture his eardrums and daze him.
Whatever was on his back was about to swipe at him, but Devlin's reflexes finally kicked in, Devlin catching the attacker and slamming it to the ground. However, the attacker lunged at Devlin, slamming him onto the ground, but Devlin was able to grab the attacker's arms, pushing them away from him.
Devlin's eyes widened. "A CHIMP?! I'M BEING ATTACKED BY A CHIMPANZEE?! LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THIS THING! IT'S ALMOST AS BIG AS A DAMNED TEENAGE MAN!"
"DEV," Corey yelled.
"GO! GET TO DEVELOPMENT! I CAN HANDLE THIS!"
"BUT-"
"JUMBO'S BOUND TO HAVE HEARD ALL THIS! NO POINT IN ALL OF US GETTING STUCK IN HERE! JUST BUILD A DAMN RAILGUN AND BAIL ME OUT! WHOA! HURRY BEFORE TARZAN HERE BITES MY DAMN FACE OFF!"
"COREY! HE'S RIGHT," Natalie went.
"AND I HATE THAT HE IS! LET'S GO!"
Devlin was struggling against the chimp, especially when the claws on its foot dug into Devlin's thigh. Devlin gritted his teeth before he kicked the ape off of him, his wounds already beginning to heal, but Devlin was literally seeing red. 'Damn. There ARE limits to regeneration. I took on too much damage too quickly. Any more hits and I'm dead,' he thought.
He then looked at the chimp, the ape slamming its fist onto the ground as it roared at Devlin, looking ready to lunge at him. Devlin took out his gun, ready to shoot at the infected primate.
Then, right as it was about to lunge, Jumbo stomped on it with enough force for blood to splatter everywhere like a popped balloon.
Devlin then looked up. "Oh, fuck."
Jumbo looked down right at him. It then raised its trunk and swung it horizontally at bullet speeds. Devlin didn't have time to avoid it, given his crippled state. He barely had enough time to shield himself, holding up his good arm and leg, which was on the side Jumbo swung.
Devlin was hit point blank, feeling all of his bones shattering before he was sent flying, slamming through the wall... into one of the upper floors of the Development Wing.
All of that happened in the span of merely one second, but to Devlin, it felt like an eternity, from being struck, to being sent flying, all the way to slamming into a vacant lab, vomiting blood before falling unconscious. The only positive in that situation was that he was away from Jumbo.
Corey and Natalie had just closed the door to the Development Wing when they heard the explosion of Devlin slamming into a room above them.
"What the hell was that," Nat asked.
"No idea. I just hope Dev's alr- WHOA!" Corey ducked just as a Tarzan tried to lunge at him. It was about to bounce off the door right at Corey, but Natalie was able to punch its head off before it could land on him, only the corpse falling on Corey.
Corey groaned in disgust as he flicked the dead chimp off of him. "Alfonso. How many more animals did he inject the R-Virus into?"
"Cor, I don't think it's just the R-Virus."
"What?"
"The R-Virus doesn't stimulate aggression. That's what the T-Virus does."
Corey's eyes widened. "No. You don't think-"
"He's crazy enough to do it, don't you think?"
"This isn't just crazy! It's downright idiotic! Mixing two viruses together?! Who knows what kind of abominations that could create?! Alfonso, you stupid, brainless, retarded, intellectually challenged jackass!"
"We can insult Alfonso all day long-"
"Which I am all for."
Natalie sighed. "But we need those components. The Circuit Breakers, the rest of my armor, and the tools needed to make a portable railgun. And tools to upgrade your and Devlin's weapons, of course. The longer we waste time, the more time we give that jackass to start a freakin' armageddon. We need to hurry."
"Yeah." Corey sighed. "I hope Devlin's alright. After all, he's the only one who can finish your armor."
"He'll be fine. If there's one thing that brilliant idiot has, it's luck. Let's just get what we need before anything finds us."
"Yeah."
Meanwhile.
In the lab, a lion was snarling in its cage. In front of it, a hand fell down, holding a syringe. "Here, kitty, kitty, kitty," Alfonso went. "You're going hunting, my dear Mufasa."
The Lion gave out a pained groan before it began to growl. Then, it roared. That roar soon became distorted, then low... then the roar of a monster was unleashed.
On the upper floor of the Development Wing laid Devlin. Upon inspection, one could see his ribs protruding from his torso, his femur sticking out of his leg, and the blood flowing out of him like a fountain. If you had an X-ray, you could see that his heart was completely stopped.
In every conceivable way, he was dead.
Then, his still heart began to beat. It was slow, but it began to reach a steady pace.
Then, the muscles in Devlin's body began to move, almost like worms or puppet strings being used by an unseen puppeteer.
The muscles gripped Devlin's rips and snapped them back into place before pulling them back into Devlin's corpse. Within, one would see the torn and ruptured organs actually self-repair, the previous tears being closed up and vanishing as if they had never happened. Cracks and crunches and squelching meat was heard for a disturbing few moments before Devlin's body was totally repaired, save for the blood staining him.
Then, Devlin gasped back to life, coughing violently before he began to wheeze. Though his organs were completely and totally repaired, Devlin was exhausted beyond limitation.
'One second. One lousy second. If Jumbo had attacked me in that second, I'd absolutely be dead right now. He wasted just enough time for the R-Virus to repair me enough to survive,' Devlin thought. 'Aaah, my vision still sucks. I'm seeing red everywhere. This is proof alright. We can still be killed. We're not bonded enough with the R-Virus to be totally immortal.'
Devlin's stomach rumbled loudly.
'Yup. That's about right. No point in having a near-instant regenerative metabolism without something to fuel it. I'm so damn hungry. Hungrier than I've ever been in my entire life.' Devlin lifted his shirt. He was literally skin and bone. 'The R-Virus atrophied me. It turned what little muscle and fat I had in my body to fuel in order to heal me. Fuck, that's bad. I need to let Nat and Cor know. Too much damage and the R-Virus will turn us into starving clumps of skin, bone, and hair. Dammit, Nat. Your words came to bite me in the ass after all. I feel like I WOULD eat your fist,' Devlin thought.
Then, he saw something. A refrigerator.
He looked around to see that he was in a Wing Breakroom, meaning employees would absolutely eat their meals in here. There had to be food in there.
Then, he saw something even closer: a deceased coworker.
Devlin's eyes widened, his mouth began to water, and even licking his lips, his stomach growling. He tried to get up, only to stumble, but was able to get to his feet. He only walked a few steps before falling in front of the coworker. He looked up to see an arm. He dragged himself over to the corpse and sat seiza style, panting from exhaustion.
He lifted the arm. It was thin, with barely any muscle on it, but it was soft and felt easy to bite into.
Devlin was panting, his heart pounding so loud that it sounded like a drum in Devlin's ear, his eyesight turning redder and veinier, absolutely bloodshot. His pupils dilated as he opened his mouth wide and was about to take a bite.
Then, he stopped, right before his teeth could even reach the arm. He was shaking, almost shivering, before he slammed his mouth shut and smashed the arm back onto the ground, panting heavily.
'NO! No! No. If I do that... I'll be no different from those... things. I need to... reach the fri...'
Devlin's eyes widened when he saw a granola bar in the scientist's lab coat. He slowly reached for it before weakly grabbing it. He looked at it as if it were made of gold before ripping the wrapper off and scarfing it down.
He fell onto his hands, panting heavily as if eating that little bar took all the energy he had. He then saw a keycard on the employee and took it.
Devlin struggled, but he was able to force himself back onto his feet and stumble toward the fridge. Using the card, he unlocked the fridge and opened it.
Steak, fish, salads, fruit. It was full of various lunches, from keto to vegan.
Devlin didn't care.
He immediately began to gorge himself, as if he hadn't seen food in weeks.
As he was feasting, the same employee he pillaged stood back onto their feet before looking at Devlin. The zombie groaned as it stumbled toward Devlin. It reached out, preparing to attack him from behind.
When it took another step closer to him, Devlin shot up before turning toward it, eyes wide with hunger-induced rage. "BEGONE!"
The zombie was then sent flying before it slammed into the wall with a loud and wet splat, blood splotched onto the wall, along with some brains. The zombie then fell to the ground with a wet thud, its back completely crushed flat.
Yet, that didn't catch Devlin's attention. He went back to eating, biting a fish's head off, stuffing his mouth full of lettuce, and even crushing an orange over his mouth to let the juice flow into his mouth.
Moments later, Devlin was panting in front of an empty fridge, his mouth and face covered in food.
Then, Devlin groaned in pain. He stumbled back before he looked down at his arms. His muscles were visibly moving, looking like there were entire swarms of snakes slithering beneath Devlin's skin. He let out a yell of pain as he hugged himself before falling to his knees.
He was panting, physically and mentally exhausted before he looked at himself.
He was healthy again. In fact, he was even healthier than he was before.
"Well, Cor, you did say to put on some muscle," Devlin said as he held up his shirt, looking at his new, muscular body.
A bang was then heard, getting Devlin's attention. He looked to see an air vent cover fall to the floor before the same infected chimp fell in front of him, roaring at him, before two more fell next to it, all three chimps snarling and growling at him.
"Uh, hi. You're not here for lunch, are you? If it makes you feel any better, there were no bananas in there."
The head chimp roared as it lunged toward Devlin.
"SHIIIIIIT," Devlin went as he took out his gun, getting ready for a fight against the Tarzans.
A/N: I'd like to remind all my readers that I was hoping to write Resident Evil Project R in the same fashion as a video game. On that note, here's some bonus information:
The health system, specifically healing. It's kinda like using the herbs in most RE titles, except we need actual, protein-rich food. Which means we're screwed if we take on too much damage. The food is EXTREMELY limited. Not like how it seems like you find green and red herbs around every corner in the games. Once you eat out of a fridge or find some food in the mess hall and eat it all, it's gone. Without anything to fuel your metabolism, you're killed.
Here are some death scenes for when Health/Metabolism is in the red:
Zombie- grabs the character and bites into the shoulder. Rips out chunks that caused blood to spew everywhere as the character screams before falling on their back, the zombie falling down and continuously eating.
Licker (tongue)- #1. wraps around the neck. Breaks neck. Lifts character, tightening tongue until the body falls away from the head.
#2. tongue pierces leg and drags over to Licker. Licker slashes victim back open/stomach open [depends on fall]
Licker( claws)- #1. DECAPITATION!
#2. Victim sees intestines fall out, tries to gather them up, holds up intestines before falling face first, dead.
#3. Slashed in the back, falls to their knees, then face first.
R-Virus Victims- Hair: grabs character, pleading for you to kill them before wrapping the both of you in the long hair, suffocating you.
Nails: stabs you in five different areas, killing you as your corpse is stuck to the fingernails
Others: strangles you to death, snapping your neck, saying, "It's not fair" or "I want to die, too."
Venus Flytrap- #1. Bites head off, blood spewing out of the stump your head was once at.
#2. Vine smacks the head hard enough for it to break off
#3. Eats upper torso, the legs stumbling back and forth before either falling back or falling forward.
#4. Eats the entire body whole as the victim screams.
Escape from Tyrant- #1. Don't run. Tyrant bursts through the wall and immediately grabs your head. Crushes it.
#2. Run. Stop. Tyrant grabs your head from behind before repeatedly slamming your face into the ground.
#3. Security wall crushes you.
#4. Zombie grapples you long enough for Tyrant to catch up. Tyrant stomps you and the zombie onto the ground. As you lay there dead, the zombie proceeds to eat your face off.
Jumbo- #1. crushes you beneath his foot.
#2. catches you with its trunk and crushes you. After it looks at your corpse it proceeds to eat you.
#3. Stabs you into the wall with its trunk.
Lasers- Ya get sliced!
Tarzans- #1. As you grapple it and run out of Health, it bites onto your nose to rip your entire face off. When your corpse falls to the ground, it proceeds to slam its fists onto your face, caving your head in.
#2. A swipe rips your jaw off. You stumble away, reaching for your missing jaw before you fall forward, blood pouring from your mouth.
And even though Mufasa hasn't shown up yet, Mufasa- #1. Pounces on you and bites your face clean off before roaring in victory.
#2. Pounces on back and bites the back of your head off, revealing the half of the brain it DIDN'T eat before it roars.
#3. Claws cause the same death animations as the Lickers' claws.
Did I miss anything? Let me know and I'll make a death scene. Ooh, or you could make your own death scene! That sounds like fun.
Until next time!
