Chapter 12: Summer Fest
The day has come for the Summer Festival has come over Inaba. Adi is getting into her Yukata to grab her stuff along with something to give to Nanako due to her growing potential as a Persona User. "Time to enjoy myself," she said as she goes out of her house to head into the night with lights filling up the rural town.
Kai and Rei are looking outside their window to see all the decorations around with Rei being amazed by this. "Wow these are so pretty," Rei said as Kai noted the pleasant music coming up from the distance.
"They went crazy huh?" Kai asked.
"We should check it out," Rei said as she is coughing feeling her chest getting tight.
"Hey there, are you okay?" Kai asked as the young lady nods her head.
"I am, I want to go outside to check out the sights with you," she said.
"Alright, don't stress yourself," Kai said as the little girl jumps for joy.
"Thank you, brother, let's go," Rei said as she was getting ready to go.
"How long is this going to happen until it ends again," Kai sighs to wait for his sister to get ready for them to head into the town to enjoy the festival.
Within an hour, Yu is waiting in the living room for he is wearing his yukata. Rise is still in their room to get preparing for their date at the Inaba Summer Festival.
"I am ready," Rise said as Yu turns around to see her coming down the stairs to see her looking like an angel. She is clad in a blue yukata with a white snowflake pattern on it. It fitted her short hourglass figure pretty well, especially around her rear and chest area. "So how do I look?" she asked as her ponytail is put to the side.
Yu is eyeing her ample chest filling out the front of her dress with him coming back onto her brown eyes. "You are looking very beautiful," he said as Rise glowed in the face as warmth is overcoming her heart.
"Thank you and you look quite handsome in that yukata," Rise said.
She noted her husband is wearing a green and brown yukata framing his tall lean build as she goes up to hug him with his sweet-talking making her heart about to burst out of her chest.
"Oh you, come on. Let's head for the festival and enjoy ourselves," she said as they went outside to see the place littered with colorful decorations. "Oh wow," she said with eyes filled with wonderment and excitement.
"It's looking lively here," he said as everyone are in festive outfits. Food stands and games are spread across the small town. The moon is high in the sky, and the soft glow of the lanterns brightens up the streets.
"Indeed, we should check out the stands nearby," Rise said as they go over to see food stands nearby for them to see a row of candied apples on display. "Oh, these look delicious. I will get us some," Rise said as they approach the stand to see the older man looking at Rise.
"You need something lady?" he asked.
"Oh, I want two candied apples. Please," Rise said as she hands him the Yen to pay for their snacks.
"Oh okay, one for the pretty lady and one for her husband," the food vendor said as he hands them the snacks. "Enjoy your time here," he said as Rise glows at the guy noting Yu is her husband.
"Wow, how did he notice we were together," Rise said as Yu notes her eyes looking at him lovingly.
"I can only guess how he would know," Yu joked as Rise laughs at this.
"It's that obvious huh?" she asked as Yu kisses her on the cheek.
"It's not so bad, come on. Let's look around the sites and sees what is here," Yu said as Rise nods her head. She takes in his hand to hold it firmly as she chews on her candied apple for the sweetness overtakes her mouth. "Wow, this tastes pretty good," she said.
"Yeah, it is," Yu said as they stroll around Inaba to see they are nearby a park to see performers doing dances and acrobatic moves to engage with the audience. "Wow, that looks cool," Yu said as they sit on a bench to enjoy the performances while they eat their snacks.
"Look at that serpent costume, they are wearing," Rise points to a group of people underneath a sea serpent costume dancing to the music. "That looks so cool," she said.
"They are stepping up the costume designs here," Yu said.
"Very lovely," she said as Rise smiles at this to place her head on his shoulder.
Yu bites into his candid apple to enjoy the sights with his wife. "Look at that," Rise said to see the dancers performing acrobatic moves in mid-air with the people clapping their hands to this. "This is wonderful," she said.
"I would love to see you do some acrobatic moves," Yu said in a flirty tone making Rise sport a red flush on her face.
"Oh, I don't do flashy things like that. I am not Chie or Sensei," Rise said as she felt his hand rubbing against her thigh.
"You are quite flexible. I think you can manage," Yu whispered in her ear as her heart felt like it was about to jump out of her chest.
"Oh baby, you are so hands-on with me. Are you getting excited?" she asked as she felt his eyes staring at her large chest pressing against her yukata.
"Sorry, you look very beautiful in that dress," he said as Rise feels happy he feels that way about her.
"Okay, we can have some fun later when we are done here," Rise said being a bit flirty herself seeing a cute expression on her husband's face. "He is so cute like that," she thought with her lewd mind thinking of all the things she wants to do with her sweetheart later.
"Looking forward to it, come on. Let's see more things here," Yu said as they go with them still holding holds to see people nearby an attraction where they are using an air rifle to snipe moving targets.
"Too bad, my good sir. You only missed 50 points out of 100 to get yourself a prize. better look next time," the gamekeeper said as the man cursed at his misfortune.
"Let me get a shot," Yu said as the gamekeeper pointed to the grey-haired young man.
"Oh my, you want to get a nice present for your lovely lady?" the gamekeeper asked.
"Yes, Rise I am going to get you something nice," Yu said.
"Oh, you don't have to," she said as Yu puts his finger on her chin to make her look up into his eyes. Rise can feel the difference in height from her tiny height to his tall frame which she likes and makes her feel safe in his presence.
"Okay, do your best babe," Rise said as Yu comes through the crowd to pick up an air rifle to begin taking out targets. He misses a few targets here and there but he manages to get the desired 100 points to win the game.
"Oh, our young hero has managed to beat the shooting range challenge. Pick your prize for your lucky lady," the gamekeeper said as Yu picks a nice-looking hairpin that looks like a seashell. He hands it to Rise for she is pretty impressed by the pink and blue shell hairpin.
"This looks so lovely, thank you so much," Rise said placing it in her hair.
"My lady deserves the best," Yu said as Rise feels special.
"Oh, I feel so special," she said as they go on to see Kanji and Naoto playing one of the game stands.
"Not bad babe," Kanji compliments his girlfriend on the sharp shooting with the air rifle scoring a good score of 75 points out of 100.
"It's nothing, I was practicing my gun skills in the range lately," Naoto said feeling bashful about this.
"Yo," Rise greeted them as the two couples met.
"What's up guys," Kanji said as Rise noted the yukatas they were wearing.
"Naoto, you look so cute. Kanji, you dress up pretty well," Rise said as Naoto is wearing a blue Yutaka which has a grey waving pattern showing off her curves and her large chest. Kanji is wearing a black and yellow Yukata with his black hair styled nicely.
"Oh, thank you, it's new," Naoto said bashfully as Kanji pats her on her small back.
"Yeah, we look pretty good. Right Naoto," Kanji said as Naoto nods her head.
"Of course, we do, you look handsome," Naoto said, it's Kanji's turn to blush at her comment.
"Oh, so cute with you two," Rise teases them.
"Shut it Rise," Kanji said out of embarrassment as Rise giggles at them.
"Enjoy yourselves," Yu asked.
"Yep, we have been checking out all the cool games here," Kanji said as Naoto got herself a prize which is a cute fox mask.
"I bet this will be good on you honey," Naoto hands him the mask as Kanji likes the design.
"This is pretty cute, I like it. Thanks," Kanji said as he puts it on leaving it at the side of his head.
"Looks good Kanji," Rise said.
"Yeah, it does. We got a bunch of games here to play. Teddie is getting too much into sampling some new dishes at the food stands," Kanji said as Yu and Rise sighed at this.
"Sounds like Teddie alright," Yu said.
"No doubt, everything seems to be pretty big here," Rise said as the whole town is alive with activity.
"Despite all the crazy things happening, people are in good spirits here," Kanji said.
"Yeah, our Other Selves and their demon hordes are becoming a problem. Thankfully it's not widespread and kept in check for now," Naoto said.
"Yeah, we managed to take out two of them so far. We can do this guys," Yu said.
"Yeah, we will keep this town safe like we always have," Rise said feeling confident at their odds.
"Well did you guys see the others around here?" Yu asked.
"Oh there, we have seen your uncle and cousin watching the koi fishes. Yosuke and Alice are checking the performances out within the park. Teddie is chowing down on some food of course. Chie and Yukiko are somewhere around here. Adi and Marie are at the shrine," Kanji said.
"Everyone is doing something," Yu said.
"Yeah it's the biggest festival yet, there is a lot to do here," Naoto said.
"Well, we need to split. Have a good time," Rise said as they go on their way to head for the food stands for them to be very hungry. "Speaking of food, I want to try some food," Rise said.
"Me too," he said as they go off into the crowd with them holding hands. Rise feels happy beside her husband enjoying the festival together.
"Gee, it smells so good here," Rise said as they go up to a food stall to see a selection of yummy foods.
"Hello there, what do you need," the stall owner said.
"Give me some sweet potato fries and Takoyaki for me, please. Also, some blueberry tea," Rise said.
"I will have the same thing besides the tea. Give me citrus punch," Yu said as the stall holder is nodding his head.
"Good choices, coming right up," the owner said as shortly he hands them their food. "Here you go," he said.
"Thanks, sir," Rise said as they sat down on a bench to enjoy their snacks. "Thank goodness, that these fries are nice and crispy. I hate it when they are loose and soft, they don't taste that good like that," Rise said as she bites into the fry to enjoy its warm sweet taste.
"I know right, it's just not right when they are undercooked. Gets annoying when I try to cook them sometimes," Yu said as he uses his chopsticks to take a ball of Takoyaki to chow into it. "This is pretty good," he said.
"See you know what's up," Rise said as they enjoy eating their snacks to see Teddie holding up a plate of Okonomiyaki in his hands.
"This is so delicious. What's up Rise and Sensei," Teddie said with a big goofy smile.
"Hey Teddie," the couple said as he sits beside them.
"Looking good Ted," Rise said as he is sporting a red yukata for its female style.
"Oh Teddie, that Yukata is a female-based one," Yu points out with Teddie being a bit confused.
"Well, I had Yosuke pick it out and it was the last one in the shop. Oh well, I make this look good anyway," Teddie owned the outfit with Rise laughing at this.
"You got the looks of a K-pop idol. It works for you," Rise said.
"Man, the place is alive with colors and music. It's so much fun and the food is awesome," Teddie said.
"Yeah, it shows Inaba is getting out of the runt and becoming a better place beside some bad apples," Yu said as he saw on the news another protest organized by the Lone Stars spewing their hatred for foreigners, especially Chinese and Koreans.
"We can't let those losers ruin our fun," Teddie said.
"You're right, we are honoring the progress we have made for the town and how it has grown over the years. I can't let this town I love be wiped away like it was nothing," Rise said.
"Yeah, we are going to stop them and preserve this town while trying to find another way to stop the Chaos," Yu said.
"Yep, I will help out whenever I can too. Oh, this is so good," Teddie said as he chewed into his food.
"Teddie, watch out you could burn your mouth," Rise warned as Teddie hangs his tongue out of his mouth he has burned it.
"Oh, it hurts but it tastes so good," Teddie said as the two sighs at this.
"Teddie, never change besides the pervy stuff," Rise said.
"I ditto that," Yu said.
"Thanks, guys," he said as he takes some strawberry milk to drink it down and cool down his mouth. Yu wash down his food to toss his stuff into a trash can.
"That was great," Yu said as Rise finishes up her meal to let out a little burp.
"Pardon me, that was amazing. We will be going Teddie, have fun," Rise said getting off the bench.
"Well do, I need to try out more stuff here," Teddie said as they part ways to go further into the town.
Elsewhere Adi is walking with Marie to meet with Nanako to give her something. "Hello Nanako and Mr. Dojima," Adi said as the duo looks behind them to see the two familiar women.
"Oh, hello there," Mr. Dojima said as Nanako smiles at their presence.
"Hey there, good to see you here. Where is Big Bro and Big Sis?" she asked as she was wondering where they were at.
"They will be here soon," Adi said.
"Enjoying yourselves?" Mr. Dojima asked.
"Yep we are, it's very beautiful here," Marie said as the lanterns are lighting up the night air.
"Yeah it is," Mr. Dojima said as Nanako is looking happy about the event.
"It's so beautiful. I have not seen Inaba look so good before," Nanako said.
"This place is getting by," Mr. Dojima said as Adi goes up to Nanako to give her a gift.
"Nanako I have something for you," Adi pulls out a silver gun which Nanako finds interesting but Mr. Dojima is alerted by this.
"What is this?" he asked being wary.
"It's not real," Adi said as she points it into the air and hears nothing when she clicks the gun. "It's a weapon used in those Super Sentai shows Nanako likes and I thought I would give her one as a gift," Adi said as Nanako is excited to see this.
"Wow, like those superheroes where they blow the bad guys away with their weapons of justice," Nanako said as she is deeply into Super Sentai lately.
"Oh yeah, they do use things like this. It's been a while since I have seen those superhero shows," Mr. Dojima said.
"I figured you would be the type to know about this," Adi said.
'Well yeah, I used to watch those shows when I was a kid. Got me interested in protecting people, getting me into the police force," Mr. Dojima said as Adi hands her the silver gun into her little hands.
"Think of this as a good luck charm. You know when you will need it," Adi said as she walks away with Marie to be confused by this.
"What is that, it looks familiar?" Marie asked.
"Don't sweat it, it will be handy when the time comes," Adi said giving her a playful wink to walk away to the shrine.
"What does that mean?" Marie questioned to run after her with Nanako being happy with her new gift.
She turns the gun to the side to see a name on it. "Evoker, sounds cool," she thought as she slips the gun into her bag to go with her father to enjoy the rest of the night.
Back with Rise and Yu are going to the game stands to see Yosuke and Alice doing some games with Alice using an air rifle and getting into target shooting. "Yo guys," Yosuke said.
"Hey there Yosuke," Yu said.
"Seems like you are getting into the games," Yu said as the tall young woman holding the air rifle blasted away at the targets with ease scoring a high score of 100 out of 100 points.
"Wow, impressive young lady," the stall owner said as Alice offers him a white smile.
"Thanks, I practice a lot back home in the States," Alice said.
"Oh, it's quite obvious you are not from here," the shopkeeper noted her chocolate brown skin and curly hair. "Your Japanese is quite good for a foreigner," he said as she finds this line a bit off-putting.
"Oh, that's due to my father who has family here for a long while," Alice said as the man nods his head.
"I see, makes sense. Must be from a good family with how well-behaved you are," the older man said as Alice feels a bit weirded out by their words.
"Yeah, I was treated well. Thanks," she grabs the prize to walk away for the man's eyes were glued onto her making her feel weird. "Well good to see you guys here," Alice said.
"Ditto, great yukatas by the way," Rise said as Alice is wearing a purple yukata with white clouds on it fitting her tall shapely frame while her hair was styled in a braided ponytail. Yosuke is rocking a yellow Yukata with a cloud pattern as well. "Matching patterns too," Rise said.
"Thanks, it was my idea,' Yosuke said.
'Yeah, it's a cute idea. By the Rise, I just noticed. You are quite a shortstack," Alice teases her as Rise is pouting at this.
'I am not short. I am the basic height of a normal Japanese woman," Rise protested as she is standing 5'1 foot tall compared to Alice being 5'8 foot tall.
"Coping pretty huh, shortstack," Alice playfully pats her on the head like a dog with Yu and Yosuke laughing at this.
"Please stop it," Rise said as she soon laughs at this as well.
"You did well in that game," Yu said as Alice nods her head.
"Yes, I used to shoot hogs back at home. Pest control via putting a bullet in their heads," Alice said.
"That seems a bit mean," Rise said.
"Don't worry about it, they are too many of them and they have been damaging crops back at home. It's to keep them under control," Alice said.
"I see, well you are pretty good at it," Yu said.
"Yes I scored pretty highly every time," Alice said as someone drunk comes by to shove against Alice almost knocking her onto the ground.
"Watch where you are going darkie," the drunken man said in a harsh tone as Yosuke, Yu, and Rise are not pleased with this choice of word.
"What did you say, old man?" Yosuke demanded as he helps his girlfriend up.
"You know what I said, boy. A woman like this does not deserve to be here at this wonderful festival of our culture," the drunken man said as a group of men are going up to the drunken man who seems to be their friend.
"I am fucking Japanese too, you know. Half of my blood comes from this homeland. Isn't that enough for you," Alice getting angry as Yu, Rise, and Yosuke backed her up.
"Just piss off old man. She was minding her own business and you have to butt in," Rise said being very spoken.
"Yeah, I still you should walk away before you look foolish," Yu said as along with Yosuke put up a strong front to protect Alice.
"Gee, you should leave or you are going to slip into the mud like an idiot," Yosuke said as the group of men backed up the drunken man.
"So, Yosuke got himself a weird-looking foreigner, always knew he had a weird taste," one of the men said.
"Look at that skin, so dirty and rough," a tall man said.
"Such goofy-looking hair, so gross," a fat man said.
"You Americans are so rude and violent. We don't need people like you here, ruining our precious culture," a glassed man said.
"You said you have half our blood. Doesn't matter, you don't look like us, talk like us and walk like us. No matter what you do, you will always be a dirty foreigner and that will never change," the drunken man said as this strikes a nerve with Alice for she strikes him in the face knocking him on his ass.
She holds onto her hand feeling pain in it. "Damn it," Alice said as a fit of rage flared within her heart for those words stings about her place in Japan and her new life there after moving from the States.
"Are you okay?" Yosuke asked.
"Yeah, shit," she said as she lose her cool to see that has a broken nose.
"You bitch," the drunken man said.
"Piss off and go," Chie said as she is in her patrol officer outfit to confront the group. "Don't bother suing, I saw everything and got it on camera. You were the ones pressing them and got what you earned," Chie said.
"Damn it, you will regret this," the drunken guy said as the group runs away from them.
"Are you guys okay?" Chie asked.
"Yeah, we are, who are those guys?" Yu asked.
"Well, they were members of the Lone Stars causing trouble around here," Chie said as this got Alice quite angry.
"Those same people were harassing my parents at their home in Okina City. They don't want their mixed-race relationship in Japan," Alice said.
"That is none of their business," Yosuke getting angry at this.
"This is nuts, I am so sorry Alice," Rise said as they feel embarrassed for some of the townsfolk having stupid beliefs.
"It's okay, I had to deal with it for some time since I got here. I have to get used to it if I am going to live here," Alice looking gloomy at this.
"Hey there, you got us. We have your back," Rise said trying to cheer her up.
"Yeah Alice, you are one of us," Yu said.
"Don't let these idiots get you down," Yosuke said.
"Thanks, guys, I am lucky to be with you all," she said as Chie goes up to the tall woman to be amused by this.
"Oh, you are the girl who is with Yosuke. He got a pretty one too, I guess there is gold in the rainbow," Chie said trying to change the subject and trying to lighten up the mood.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Yosuke asked in confusion.
"It's crazy to think you got a nice one. Hey there, I am Chie. Nice to meet you in the flesh," Chie bows her head as Alice responds in kind.
"Me too, Yosuke told me a lot about you. A true meat eater," Alice said as Chie nods her head.
"Right I am, I can show you some cool places around here and eat some dishes," Chie said.
"That would be pretty nice," Alice said.
"So, you are in your police getup?" Rise asked.
"Yep, I am doing some police duty to keep the peace here. I needed to kick some guys to keep them in line," Chie said.
"You are into martial arts?' Alice asked.
"Yes I am, I have been training for a long time. Keeping the peace around here," Chie said.
"Oh yeah, that is neat. My dad is a US Marine and taught me a lot of self-defense training from his fieldwork back in the day," Alice said as Chie finds this interesting.
"Oh, that sounds pretty cool. You should give me pointers," Chie said getting excited about this.
"I will gladly do that," Alice said.
"Well we should get going, good to see you guys," Yosuke said as Alice bows her head to feel sorry.
"Sorry for causing you trouble," Alice said.
"It's okay, don't worry about it," Yu said as Rise nods her head in agreement.
"Yeah, let's have fun on better terms," Rise said as Alice happily nods her head.
"Thanks guys, have a good time," Alice said for Yu can see a sad smile on her face to go with Yosuke.
"I hope she can find peace here," Yu said.
"She seems like a nice lady, I hope no one else bothers her. Yosuke finally got a girl who can deal with his pervy ass. Let's not ruin it, well I need to go on patrol," Chie said.
"Alright, where is Yukiko?" Yu asked.
"She is at the shrine currently, well enjoy the festival," Chie said as she runs off.
"Gee, always on the move," Yu said.
"Yep, she does, the shrine is nearby. We should make our wishes there," Rise said as they walk through the crowds to see an old but beautifully made shrine with more stands all over it. "This place is busting with people," Rise said as they finish their food to go up to the shrine to pray to it. "So, what are you going to wish for?" she asked.
"For both of us to have a long and happy life together," Yu said as Rise sports a deep blush on his face.
"That is so sweet, I was thinking the same thing. I want us to be happy forever, baby," Rise said kissing him tenderly on the cheek. "So, I wonder if we have kids. What would you want, a boy or a girl?" Yu asked.
"Girl," he said plainly.
"Oh yeah, we have a little me running around huh," Rise said lightly.
"Yep, that would be swell," Yu said.
"Yu, if this madness ends tomorrow. Where do we go from there?" Rise asked to be curious about his answer.
"I don't know. Retire on a beach in Hawaii, growing old, and little children running around our feet," Yu joked as Rise laughs at this
"You are too much, you know that," Rise trying to hold back tears of laughter.
"I mean it, you are my present and you are my future," Yu said grabbing onto her tiny hands with Rise sporting a blush.
"Me too. You are my light that will shine the way to my happy ending," Rise said as they walked away from the shrine. "Hawaii would be a good place to vacation in the future," Rise said as they see Yukiko greeting people before they go to the shrine.
"What's up, Yukiko?" Yu asked as the young lady turns around to be sporting a pink kimono with a white cherry blossom pattern on it giving her a graceful appearance.
"Good evening you two, I hope you are enjoying yourselves," Yukiko said bowing her head to greet her friends.
"Yes, it's quite wonderful," Rise said.
"Biggest one yet," Yu said.
"Yes, I am very happy our investments in this event were well spent. Inaba had a reborn in the last years and it's a beautiful sight to see my town doing so well," Yukiko said.
"This place is worth fighting for," Yu said as Yukiko nodded her head.
"Yes it is, they can't wipe this place away like it is nothing. This is where our friends and family are based in. With you here, there are even more reasons to fight for this place," Yukiko said placing her hand on his chest with a soft glow on her face.
Rise saw this and made a fake coughing sound to make sure she is heard. "Watch your hands, Yukiko," Rise said as Yukiko backs away to feel her cheeks getting red.
"Oh sorry," Yukiko said.
"It's okay, I think so too," Yu said patting Yukiko on the shoulder.
"Yes, well I need to deal with something. Have a good time," Yukiko said as she moved away.
"Yukiko looks nice today," Yu said.
"Yes she does, she got that heiress energy going on," Rise said as she can see Yukiko still has a major crush on Yu and thankfully she keeps it in check.
"She did a pretty good job here. The Amagi Inn put in their all here," Yu said.
"Indeed," Rise said as they spot Mr. Dojima and Nanako eating some snacks.
"Hey there," the couple greets the dad and daughter pair.
"Good evening you two, looking good," Mr. Dojima commented.
"How do you like my Yukata?" Nanako shows off her outfit which is a white yukata with a pink flower pattern.
"It's very pretty," Yu said.
"Like a little princess," Rise said as Nanako feels like her cheeks are getting red from their comments.
"Thank you," Nanako said.
"Are you two enjoying the festival?" Mr. Dojima said as the two nod their heads. "Good, this place is truly live unlike I have seen before. Ever since you show up, things got better around here," he said.
"It's not just me but everyone pitched in and made this place better than before," Yu said.
"Yeah, I wish my wife can see this. She used to go with me to the shrine during these times. I miss those days," Mr. Dojima said.
"But you got me, Big Bro and Big Sis. You are not alone Dad," Nanako said as the older man smiles at his daughter who looks like a near image of his wife looking beautiful and happy.
"You are right, I am grateful for you guys," Mr. Dojima said as they talk with for a while.
Elsewhere Rei and Kai are at the shrine to see all the people praying to their gods to give them happy lives. "This place is so peaceful," Rei said as Kai is a bit unnerved by all this.
"They claim this place wards off demons and yet it fails to do so," Kai feels these humans' beliefs are a bit silly with them not having the power to fight back against real demons and other supernatural beings within this world.
"Don't be like that, it gives them a state of comfort in times of pain and uncertainty," the little girl said sounding smarter than she appears.
"I guess you are right on that one," Kai said as they go towards the shrine to watch other humans praying to the shrine. "These humans are filled with conflicting yet halfhearted emotions. They wonder why these Shadows and Personas exist," Kai is in deep thought over the weirdness of humans unless demons who are true to their natures with humans trying so hard to hide who they truly are.
