Sup guys? Lighting Wolf here, back with another story, this one about Valkyria Chronicles. Enjoy the 800-word chapter. I don't own VK, Sega, Ryutaro Nonaka and Shuntaro Tanaka do.
With war came losses, there was always going to be casualties. It was something no soldier wanted to entertain, but they always had the thought of it happening in the back of their minds. It was always a constant fixture.
This was part of the thoughts Matias had running through his skull. He looked around at the other dozens of soldiers on the transport ship.
Matias sighed and said nothing. He knew nobody wanted to say the first word. It made him question what was going to happen next as well.
Matias rubbed at his temples.
"Does anyone want to say anything?" Another of the soldiers next to Matias questioned. Everyone turned to look at the soldier.
"What's there to say?" Matias questioned as the ship continued through the ocean to deliver reinforcements.
The soldier shrugged and hummed. Matias rolled his eyes and turned to the side and brushed off his rifle.
"Hey, we're all probably going to be expendable sooner or later." The soldier put in which made Matias sigh and walk to the edge of the ship.
Matias knew why nobody wanted to talk or even make a joke. They were going into a war… Not even one that their country was supposed to be part of.
It was a conflict that they wanted no part of.
"Hey, don't think like that." Another soldier stated as he walked up to the edge of the boat. "We just win this war, we go home… This will be done by Christmas." The soldier added as Matias rolled his eyes and hummed.
"Your overly confident for a soldier." Matias put in and crossed his arms. "There's a high chance we all end up dying sooner or later." Matias stated and cracked his fingers before then tapped on the railing.
The soldier shrugged while Matias turned to him. Matias hummed and rested his rifle on his shoulder.
"We can't all be sadomasochists, can we?" The soldier put in and turned to look to Matias. "If we just treat it like a fruitless meat grinder? We're never going to have great morale." The soldier added while Matias nodded.
"I doubt morale is high right now." Matias responded and crossed his arms. "We're fighting wars across the oceans. Not even on our soil." Matias said which made the other soldier nod.
"Yeah, but Vinland has allies oversea." The other soldier said and looked up to start to see snowflakes. "That's why they've sent both of us, right?" The other soldier stated which made Matias rub at his chin.
"It isn't the only reason they sent us." Matias said with a smile. "But I understand why some of us are out of the loop… I'm an officer and they didn't want to tell me anything." Matias muttered.
"And I'm a Corporal… You think they informed any Edinburgh soldiers of our ranks or such?" The other soldier questioned which made Matias hum and shrug.
"I doubt they've spoken to people." Matias responded and turned to the side once more.
More snow started to fall on his face. Matias looked up at the snow which started to blanket the deck of the ship.
"We're going to be there soon." Matias muttered while rubbing his fingers together. "I'd get inside. Their going to offload us at the Edinburgh base. I've heard that their making a push for the next town." Matias stated and let out a yawn.
It would be cold soon. Matias wondered what was going to happen. Matias knew Vinland had ended up equipping a few divisions of soldiers for the cold.
"Do you want me to point out that we're supposed to be going to war when we get there?" The other soldier mentioned as Matias rolled his eyes. "I mean, like right away. We're going to war right away. They wanted us to come out swinging. We're supposed to get to rest after we make the first push." The other soldier put in which made Matias hum and nod.
Matias simply walked away, ready to prepare his group of soldiers for their first combat mission.
"This is going to be a LONG day…" Matias muttered and sighed with annoyance to himself while cracking his neck.
Matias shook his head and hummed.

Phew. First chapter done! I want to point that Matias and Minerva will be meeting soon. Next chapter will be in a few weeks. It will show the first batch of Vinland soldiers fighting in the war and such. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
P.S: Next chapter will be 900 words or so. Kai, Selvaria, and other stories will hopefully be posted soon.
