Chapter 3: Safe
Nessie
"Are you sure you're okay?" Carlisle asked me once again when he noticed how unsteady that I was on my feet. My legs felt as though they had the consistency of jelly.
"I think it's just adrenaline and shock maybe,"
"You should go sit down in my car. Here," he said as he opened the front passenger door for me.
"But-"
"Don't worry about your babies. I will go get them from your car,"
I nodded. Sitting down did sound like a good idea anyway. I needed to sit down and think. Going off to a stranger's house just wasn't something that I did. But right now it seemed to be my safest option. I was safer in a house full of strangers than in my own house right now. It was all so fucked up.
I watched Carlisle get Hunter and then Faith out of my car. I was relieved to see them squirming around seemingly okay for now. If anything had happened to them then I didn't know what I would have done.
I didn't move again until Carlisle slid into the front seat and shut the door. I glanced over at my car and could see that the side of the car had, indeed, crashed into the side of the mountain. The damage didn't look that bad though. Perhaps had I not pulled the emergency break when I did the outcome would have been much different.
"What were you doing driving at this time of night anyway?" Carlisle asked. "If you don't mind my asking?" he added seemingly as an afterthought.
I took a deep breath. "Let's just say I was getting away from a really bad situation," I didn't want to go into further details. Thankfully he didn't press the matter any further.
My head was still pounding in my ears. It felt as though all of the blood were rushing straight to my head. It made me feel slightly dizzy. Perhaps, maybe, there was something physically wrong with me after all. Or maybe it was just shock still catching up to me. I hoped it was the latter.
We pulled up to a big house. It was obvious that these people had money also. I didn't have time to gaze at the house before Carlisle opened the front door for me.
The first thing I became aware of was all of the people watching me. There were five teenagers. Two girls and three boys in total. Then there was another woman who I could only assume was Carlisle's wife. They were all exceptionally, insanely, in humanely beautiful. Each one of them looking like they had walked off the cover of an airbrushed Vogue magazine. One look at the blonde girl was an instant punch to self esteem gut. I'd never felt so plain and ordinary before.
Not a single one of them said a word to me. I was feeling way to self conscious to talk to these God and Goddess like people anyway. Carlisle led me to the back of the house where his study was. My body locked into place when I caught that oh so familiar scent of blood. It smelled so good. So so good.
"I'm sorry about my family. They didn't know I was bringing you and your babies home with me tonight. So it was a bit of a shock for them,"
"Are you sure you're feeling okay? Are you in any pain?"
I shook my head. "No. Really. I'm fine,"
I let him examine me and my babies. He even went as far as to take x rays of us. "You three really are lucky. No broken bones. Not even a concussion,"
"Yeah I guess we are. It could've ended a whole lot worse I'm sure. My brakes just stopped working. I've only had that car a few months so it's kind of weird,"
"We'll figure out what happened. My daughter Rosalie happens to be an excellent mechanic. I'll ask her to examine your car and figure out what went wrong,"
"Thanks,"
"I'm going to go have a talk with my family, do you mind waiting here for awhile?"
"Sure. Not a problem," I didn't really feel like getting up anyway.
There was a knock on the door just as Carlisle stood up. One of the teenage boys I'd seen earlier walked in. I was awe struck again by his beauty. He had bronze colored hair that was almost, if not, identical to my own.
"I want to talk to this girl. See if I can get a good read on her,"
"Sure thing son," Carlisle said. "I'll be waiting for you,"
The boy gazed at me with those piercing gold eyes of his. Now that I think about it everyone in this family had gold eyes. Did they all wear contacts or something?
The boy seemingly fought a smile. I questioned his sanity as I wondered what was so funny. "I'm Edward Cullen," he held out his hand for me to shake. I winced at how ice cold his skin was. Just like Carlisle's.
Edward Cullen. That was my biological father's name. That was really weird. Maybe there was more than one Edward Cullen in the world. I shook my head. Edward stared at me blankly. His face didn't give away what he was thinking.
"Oh my name is Renesmee Cullen,"
"Your last name is Cullen?"
"Yeah I know. It's a strange coincidence I guess since Cullen is a pretty unique last name. But my mom really wanted me to have my dad's last name. Though she swears he had no idea I even existed," I wondered why I was even telling this strange boy all of this. Was it because he shared the same name as my biological father that I never knew?"
"How old are you?"
I sighed. "I'm eighteen years old,"
"Where were you born?"
"Carlisle asked me all of these questions earlier. I was born in Forks, Washington on June 12th, 2006. My mother's name was Isabella Marie Swan,"
"And what do you know of your father?" He asked me with unusual interest.
"Only that my mom was madly in love with him. Apparently that love wasn't reciprocated though. Two days after they had sex he dumped her. Told her that he and his family never truly loved her. That it was all just a ruse. Yet she still loved them all and that's why she still gave me their last name," I said. "I guess he just used her and once they has sex that was it. He was done with her,"
Edward closed his eyes and muttered something along the lines of "I can't believe she believed that lie so easily," but I was sure that I misheard. I might have been my imagination but I could've sworn I heard something break somewhere in the house.
"This is impossible," Edward shook his head. "I can't procreate-I mean he couldn't have procreated. It's impossible for our k-" he stopped himself from saying whatever it was that he was about to say. I was about to question him further when the smell of blood caught me off guard once again. It smelled so good. So tantalizingly delicious. My throat burned. My mouth watered. My heart raced.
Edward had a strange look on his face as he looked back at me again. "Where is your mother right now? I'm sure she's looking for you?" He looked hopeful. Like he was hoping he would get a chance to see her. Which was crazy.
"She's not looking for me. She's dead,"
