On arrival she had healed them, but they had captured a double agent, which was easier then Ezri thought. Sam drove the car as they made their way through the expressway when the agent was grabbed, thrown out the window, alarming everyone. Nat and Ezri were on full alert as the assailant was on top of the car, Nat quickly climbing on Steve's lap as Ezri dodged the bullets.
"Hit the brakes!"
Sam hit the brakes, throwing the assailant off the car, watching in horror as he slid back onto the road, his hand steadying himself with his metal hand. Ezri noticed his entire left arm was metallic, the team was hit from the back.
"Ezri, get up here!" Steve called out for her, and Ezri didn't hesitte as she made her way through the middle as an arm came through the roof, taking the wheel from Sam's hand by surprise.
"Shit!"
Rammed once more as the car was swirving side to side on the road, Sam pulled Ezri onto his lap, clutching onto her tightly to keep her still as Steve grabbed tightly onto his arm.
"Hold on!" Steve shouted before he busted the door off the car, allowing them to barely escape the car flipping but Sam had rolled away as Steve clung onto Nat and Ezri under him protectively before they sprung onto their feet.
"Cover!"
Steve wasted no time, grabbing Ezri as he forced her to crouch with him as a grenade launcher came towards them, being thrown off the bridge together. Steve pushed her away as he went through the bus, and Ezri fell onto a car.
Ezri grunted in pain as she rolled off as she saw Nat getting shot in the arm, hiding in the back of a car. Ezri was weaponless, and carefully made her way closer to Nat as Steve fought off the masked assassin; she just needed a moment.
The fight intensified, creeping closer to Steve when she heard him whisper through the comms:
"Bucky?"
"Who the hell is Bucky?"
Ezri's eyes widened as the realization hit her, Steve's emotions radiating off of him of hope; Steve knew him. If she could do this right…maybe this Bucky would remember him too? Or was Steve looking at this all wrong?
Ezri sprang into action when she saw Sam kick Bucky onto his back and as Bucky was standing up, Ezri tackled him onto the ground, slapping her hands onto his face as she forced herself through his mind.
"Ezri!"
Bucky fought against her, but Steve helped pin him down with the help of Sam, allowing Ezri to do whatever she was doing.
Bucky grunted as flashes of himself coming into fast, memories of him in a military uniform with Captain America, Steve Rogers, being scrawny, being rescued by Captain, fighting side by side in the military, and falling off a train. Ezri teared up, feeling his emotions through the memories and his own in that moment.
Ezri had passed out suddenly, Bucky quickly throwing Sam and Steve off him before he panicked, looking down at the woman they called Ezri. He quickly ran off without a second to waste as Nat came towards them. Sam held his hands up in surrender, but Steve refused to. Instead, he lifted Ezri into his arms, her head resting his chest.
When SWAT arrived, each of them were handcuffed, Ezri handcuffed before they threw her against Steve. He was careful to hold her up as she laid passed out, but his mind wandered about his friend. He had thought he had lost him; he was all that he had in his life back then. Now Bucky was back, but he was no longer than Steve once knew.
When Ezri had awoken, she groaned as she looked up to see Sam carrying her and she smiled when she realized she was safe.
"Hey, sleeping beauty. You look mighty happy." Sam teased, with a smirk on his face.
"I can't help but smile when I see a smile as good looking as yours." Ezri teased, making Sam chuckle. The team had walked into the room, revealing an injured Nick Fury in a hospital bed surrounded by machines.
Sam carefully put her down, gesturing a thank you as Fury explained the severity of his injuries. Ezri couldn't help but feel pained by his injuries. Nick looked at her cautiously as she approached him.
"Can I help heal you faster, if you'd like?" Ezri asked in sign language.
"What did you just say to me?" Fury asked, but Sam stood beside her.
"She said she can help you faster, if you want?" Sam translated.
"I'm not for pain but I need to be out of here, so I'd appreciate that." Fury answered.
Ezri smiled gratefully over to Sam before she approached Fury, placing her hand over his forehead. Fury saw in his peripheral version her hand glow, letting out a sigh of relief as he felt every pain disappear. Even his broken arm went numb before he was able to calmly move it.
"Thank you." Fury spoke as he sat up, Ezri helping him up.
Ezri wasted no time going over to Nat next as the doctor tried to take out the bullet with his tongs, but Ezri wouldn't allow that when she Nat scrunched her face just a little at the discomfort. The doctor felt Ezri pushing him but when he saw Ezri's dark green eyes with what looked like blue spackles.
Ezri smiled gratefully as she kneeled in front of Nat, hovering her hand over Nat's bullet wound. Nat felt just a small-like pinch feeling but watched as the bullet came out of her body before Ezri placed her hand gently over the wound, quickly healing it.
With a quick thank you, Ezri knew that things were intense. SHIELD, HYDRA; she wasn't here long enough to know the full history, but she had known that Hydra was up to no good and poor Steve put this problem on his himself. Her mind wandered to Bucky, the man from the bridge.
"Would you have told me, even if you knew?" Steve questioned as they spoke of Bucky, and Ezri had her answer.
The team had planned their objective, making Ezri frown when Steve told her to stay here.
"I know you want to help, and we know you can fight; that's not in question. The issue is communication; not everyone can understand. It'd just reassure everyone that you're okay here." Nat told her, but Ezri was beyond angry.
This reminded Ezri of her family, who constantly barricaded her in her caverns in the water against her will. Steve saw her hands clenched, but she nodded, hugging her legs as s he rested her head against her knees.
"Ezri, we promise we'll come back for you." Steve told her, resting a hand on her shoulder but she waved her hand dismissively, never raising her head.
"We need to go. Now." Fury said, but Steve almost felt guilty leaving her alone.
"I'll come back for you; I promise." Steve said and she nodded, she had no choice, but she swore herself she'd leave if they didn't come back tonight. At least with Tony, he made her a part of everything and cared about her opinion. But to have brought her and to wait around like some damsel?
"You really should bring her with us." Sam advised but Steve gave him a hard stare as they left her alone.
More than a few hours had passed, but Ezri was patient. The doctor had disappeared, leaving her all alone but as she explored the bunker endlessly, but it was short lived when she walked into a black pitch room, with a strip of light shining into the room when she saw him.
Bucky.
Her hair stood on the back of her neck, but Ezri made no attempt to move when his blue eyes was locked onto her ember green eyes. Neither one of them moved, having a staring competition between one another until Ezri blinked, and he stood up. Ezri didn't move as he slowly approached her, until he stood in front of her.
"You, you're the one who showed me my memory." Bucky spoke.
Ezri smiled apologetically but nodded.
"How?" Bucky asked her but Ezri shook her head. She didn't know Bucky to share her personal information. Sure, she had helped him remember pieces of himself and he was Steve's best friend, but he was with Hydra; he even shot Natasha earlier.
Bucky was scrambling in his own head, trying to make sense of everything. He was confused, not sure what to believe but this woman did this to him. The Winter Soldier in him wanted to kill her as ordered but the Bucky Barnes in him wanted her help. He grabbed her shoulders, her eyes widening at his sudden outburst, and Ezri was hit with the overwhelming feeling of his emotions all at once.
Anger, desperation, sadness, overwhelming, yet hopeful, and lost.
Ezri searched his eyes as Bucky noticed her eyes soften.
"I just… want to know who I am. What I am, that man knew me before. Can you show me again?"
"You…want me to help you remember." Ezri signed to him, but Bucky's stare became intense.
"…You can't talk."
Ezri frowned but shook her head all the same. Bucky took a sharp breath but watched her when she put a hand on her chest, slowly bringing her other hand up to his chest as well, nodding to him with a sincere smile on her face.
"You'll help me." Bucky stated, receiving another nod from her again.
Ezri motioned for him to follow her, needing something to write with. Ezri knew it'd be so much easier for her to just speak but she didn't know how her voice would affect him and if the team knew she could talk this whole time, she wanted Thor with her when the time came.
Walking into the room that Fury was in when the team first arrived, she patted on the bed for him to sit on as she took out the pend and clipboard the doctor had left behind on the desk beside them. She quickly wrote on it before she handed Bucky the clipboard.
He gazed at her before he looked down at the clipboard.
"I'll have to touch you to help you but I please ask that you open yourself to me. This will allow you to see your memories with clarity."
Bucky put the clipboard down, but his gaze was just as intense as before but he was still trying to figure out Ezri. She still smiled at him, but she wasn't afraid, but he could tell in her eyes that was hurt, their was pain there of her own.
Ezri slowly approached him, her eyes locking with his as her hands gently touched his cheeks. It felt foreign to Bucky, her cool, soft fingertips pressed against his warm stubble cheeks. His eyes fluttered as he felt an overwhelming feeling of peace, a feeling he never felt before, but his eyes couldn't stop staring into hers.
Once she realized she stood between Bucky's legs, Ezri took a deep breath before she closed her eyes, her smile dropping as she began to push herself through. Bucky closed his eyes, clearing his mind as best he could but opened himself to Ezri. He grunted as they both watched a memory of uniformed Bucky with two women and a short scrawny man following behind him as they watched Stark Enterprise presenting a test model of a new car.
The scrawny man was none other than Steve Rogers, watching as Bucky intervened when Rogers was cornered in an alleyway. No sooner than the memory, another came through of Steve Rogers rescuing Bucky now as the super soldier they knew him as.
Ezri could feel Bucky's anger, immediately calming him down. Bucky was struggling to process all of this: the man he attacked was someone he considered a best friend.
Bucky's anger was quickly just as gone, feeling the warmth wash over him again. Ezrii felt another memory come through and it was then that she let out a whimper as she watched Bucky fall off the train, watching Steve as he watched in horror. She felt the tears, the anguish, the fear in Bucky as he fell, and Desi let out a scream as Bucky hit the ice.
Bucky felt his anguish quickly disappear but hearing Ezri in pain was almost as painful for him. Bucky's eyes shot wide open and that's when he knew, this woman was seeing and feeling everything he had experienced in these memories.
Bucky pulled her against him, wrapping his metal arm around her waist before he closed his eyes again. Sliding his hand into Ezri's loose hair, cradling the back of her head, and pressing her forehead against his as he opened himself up to her again. She then saw another memory with him, feeling cold once more, and whimpered as aches entered her body once more, watching as Bucky was awakened with a metallic arm against his will.
Ezri watched his memory as he was trained but when he began to remember things, Hydra had strapped him to a chair like. Giving him a mouthpiece, he was forced down and felt plates on their forehead.
Ezri let out a blood-cry scream as she felt the shocks enter her body, crying out with tears rolling down her face as she endured the shocks with him. Bucky tightened his hold on her, shushing her softly as she calmed down.
Bucky had finally remembered some things, but his memory was still foggy from other feign memories. But he knew that he and Steve Rogers were friends, and that was enough for now.
She looked down and noticed they were in a very intimate and inappropriate position, and blushed as she attempted to pull away but he stilled her. Their noses brushing against one another, Bucky suddenly felt reluctant to release her.
Bucky had heard faint footsteps on the ground and he slid off the bed, realizing how short Ezri was as he pushed her behind him protectively. Was it Hydra? Had they found him? Ezri's eyes widened when she saw Steve and Sam walk in, Sam's guns drawn as Steve held up his shield.
"Ezri, get back!" Sam yelled but Ezri instead put herself in front of Bucky protectively. Bucky didn't show it but he was surprised that this short woman was protecting him, the Winter Soldier.
"He's not a danger, stand down!" Ezri said in sign language.
"She said he's not a danger, for us to stand down." Sam translated.
"Bucky…" Steve said softly, putting away his shield as he slowly approached Bucky.
Bucky remained still, staring hard at Steve, his memories slowly coming back, but he still couldn't remember everything in the past.
"You're…Steve Rogers."
Steve nodded, "You remember me."
"I got some help." Bucky said but refused to say more. Steve looked between him and Ezri; he knew something had happened between the two of them.
"Hydra has been stopped for now, Pierce is dead. We need to go; will you come with us Buck?" Steve asked.
Bucky was hesitant, he wanted space to figure himself out first, but he feared if Hydra caught up with him. Ezri could feel his hesitation and turned to him, causing him by surprise. He watched her doing sign language, Ezri's face scrunched with concern and looked over to the Sam fellow that trsnalted before.
"She said that you don't feel worried about whatever danger you feel you bring, the whole team has enemies; what's one more? Being around people familiar to you will help your memory recovery." Sam told Bucky.
Bucky felt himself crack an apologetic smile, one so small but Ezri caught it, smiling back at him with the same expression. Sam looked to Steve, noticing Steve's jaw clench; that was a new look on the Captain.
"Okay…I'll come." Bucky agreed and Ezri smiled happily, making Bucky feel relieved.
"I'll call Stark, let him know we are heading back and alert the situation," Steve spoke, looking over to Ezri,
"Will you alert Thor, so that everyone is notified?" Steve asked Ezri, receiving a thumbs up from her.
"Good, let's head out."
