Master Control
Chapter 49
Cueball liked to think she was an interesting person. Fun to be around, unpredictable, outgoing, and could find her way into all sorts of fun (some called it trouble0. Yes, she never got that high up the ranks, but honestly who needs all that work? She had enough on her plate as a teacher, restaurant owner, information broker (in the legal way) and a pro hero.
Though recently her life was occupied by her pupil who found himself at the center of everything.
"Cueball!" Thin man yelled out from the counter, his arms stretched out between the kitchen and a table. "Could use a little help over here?"
"Can't!" The woman was completely reclined on a big velvet lazyboy, switching between channels on the big display television in her bar. "Busy here!"
"Oh hi Cueball!" A hyperactive young hero with blue hair curled into spirals came up beside the woman. "What are you busy with? Is it hero work on the television or is it a hobby you're busy with?"
"Could be both." The dragon heroine, Ryukyu came to wrangle in her work study student. "What are you looking for?"
"Something big is supposed to be announced." Cueball flipped through the channels faster as none of them seemed to talk about what she was after. It was the dinner rush, everyone who was working through the day now clocking out and needing a bite to eat after such a crazy day. Especially when every hero in Japan was on red alert, they all flocked to the diner that was made to be for heroes to come and relax in.
"Oh?" Fatgum sitting nearby with a table stacked with meals took interest, his own work study student hiding behind the plates. "Bigger than that radioactive villain that got everyone worked up?"
"Maybe." Cueball couldn't reveal much, but she teased with a knowing smirk. "If only I could find the damn channel."
"Oh Mirio!" The bluehaired teen rushed over to the muscular blond boy, who had smaller eyes and a big 1,000,000 stamped on his chest. "Glad to see you're back! Is Bubble Girl ok? I heard that-Bubble Girl!"
Hearing the name of a water quirk hero, many members of the establishment looked over to see the blue skinned sidekick walk in with her boss Nighteye and fellow sidekick Centipeder.
"Don't crowd her folks." Thin man warned the many guests. "She was serving on the front lines after all."
"I'm alright!" Bubble Girl gave an assuring wave to everyone. "The hospital managed to clean everyone thoroughly of any leftover radiation."
"Still." Mirio was quick to give his say. "It must have been hard dealing with someone you couldn't touch but could still hurt you."
"This isn't a good time for jokes about that." Nighteye sternly mentioned. "As funny as they may sometimes be. Many are still sensitive about the subject. Besides, you know why I kept you back from that fight despite your intangibility."
"Because even if I can avoid getting hit I still couldn't land one myself." Mirio recited, having heard it many times himself.
"Exactly."
"SHHHH!" Cueball shushed the crowd, having found that channel eight was broadcasting it. "It's on!"
They all looked to the screen, and saw Endeavor addressing a wide audience in front of the Musutafu Hospital. While the average person may see the same old grumpy man, any hero who worked with him was aware of just how pissed he was. From the way he gripped the podium, to the snarl curling up one side of his face, and how wild the flames on his body were.
"Today was almost a terrible tragedy. Many heroes responded to the villain now referred to as 'Azed Five'-"
"That is such a lame name." Cueball muttered, many others quickly agreeing.
"-And suffered from multiple burns or lethal doses of radiation. Azed Five found his way into the Hoth Reactor Plant, began a meltdown, and nearly caused the most deadly nuclear disaster in the history of the planet. Millions would have died, and most of Japan would have become uninhabitable for tens of thousands of years."
The size of the potential destruction made everyone silent in the diner, all giving their strict attention to the screen as even Endeavor lowered his voice in respect.
"I was there, and was tasked with making sure our heroes could work with the police and the JSDF in making sure the facility would not be broken into. We were confident with our manpower and resources we could protect it. But, Backdraft, one of the responding heroes still volunteered to patrol within the plant itself just in case our defenses would have fallen. Alongside that man, Mrs. Waterhose accompanied the hero inside to protect the reactor core. We were foolish to not think of how Azed Five could pass through most forms of matter, as he managed to sneak past all of us and begin a meltdown."
"That's tough to admit." Fatgum noted the man's honesty. "Media is going to rip into everyone there for not properly preparing for that."
"With quick thinking, bravery, and with Mrs. Waterhose's help, Backdraft was able to trap Azed Five in the the reactor chamber itself and cut the reaction, saving our country at the cost of his own life."
Endeavor bowed his head before the microphone, everyone taking a moment of silence or downing a drink to the hero. That's when they noticed his temper quickly rise back up, smoke rising around his grip on the podium.
"Someone else though, was able to help capture the villain and retrieve Backdraft without putting a risk to releasing Azed Five. Everyone here might know him as a threat, but today he proved to be a hero to help."
Motioning his arm to the side, Endeavor nearly burned himself out when the infamous Frozen Mothman appeared beside him.
"WHAT THE SHIT?!" Mirko screamed out as she nearly broke her table.
"Him?!" Kamui Woods was in agreement with her outrage. "He's a menace, a criminal!"
Behind the cameras many gasps and sudden outburst could be heard, and clearly Endeavor agreed with many of the feelings being shared behind this. "'Frozen Mothman-"
"Big Chill." The alien silently whispered to Endeavor, the man resisting the urge to burn everything down within a mile radius grinded his teeth as he went back to the microphone.
"Or 'Big Chill', was undergoing a hormonal imbalance at the time of his rampage and was merely lacking the medical help he required at the time. Upon review, the Hero Public Safety Commission realizes that even though the heroes were within their rights to apprehend the Froz-Big Chill, he never instigated a fight and only defended himself when provoked in a 'sensitive' state. I have been informed that there are several cases of civilians who have extreme mutant quirks that have been hidden all their lives for their safety and ours. But, after extensive interviews and training, they are being permitted to assist in heroic activities seeing that they possess highly valued skills and abilities."
Folding his arms and kicking his feet onto the table, Hawks wasn't buying it. "You've got to be kidding me."
"Their activities will not be handled directly by the HPSC, but instead another party with the proper authority."
It was at this point there was so much uproar on both the news side, and the diner that no one could make out what Endeavor was saying. The number two hero quickly gave up, seeing as he never wanted to be there in the first place, and left while bumping harshly against Big Chill's shoulder.
Nervously, Big Chill approached the microphone, flinching under the potentially billions of people around the world watching him.
"Come on." Cueball whispered to herself. "You got this."
"Ahem." He tested the microphone, his clear discomfort and anxiety making the crowd simmer down to low grumbles. "I uh, I just want to say a couple things really fast."
Taking a deep breath, he reached behind himself as he pulled out a couple of flash cards, flipping through them like an inexperienced mess and-oh there they went, spilling out of his hands as he scrambled to grab some of them.
"Um…let's see I…I want to thank the heroes who gave me this chance and…"
He stared at it, whatever words he was told or prepared to read beforehand not fitting what he felt was sincere. So, mustering up the same courage he had fighting Overhaul, saving a universe, Izuku Midoriya faced the world head on.
"I grew up wanting to be a hero, more than anything."
The honesty of a small boy's dream that almost everyone had made them listen, wanting to know how he would spin this.
"But, because of how I was born, no one believed I had a chance."
Guilt washed through parts of the crowd, and some even empathized with him for various reasons. Weak quirks, dangerous quirks, no quirks, they all felt the crushing pain of reality.
"I couldn't make friends, my teachers promoted bullying, and my peers all looked down on me. I even had a hard time believing I could even be useful, but I still had a dream to save people with a smile, that I could let people know it was alright with just a look. Then, as I grew older, I met people I could help, but was encouraged not to because of the danger I could bring. All my life I tried to find a way around the rules to help, but every time I did was just another reminder about how people would be scared of me, reject me, or even lock me up for trying. Eventually, I gave up on that dream, content to just keep hidden from the world."
The frowns started to lessen, the listeners genuinely paying attention to the story being laid out to them.
"When I started to make friends, people I could depend on and help, I realized I would do anything to make sure they were safe regardless of the consequences to myself. Just recently, I realized that there was someone who could kill people that were standing too close to him. I related to him, his specialized diet that was rare to come by, driven by instincts to the point where you have so little control of yourself. I offered him help, but he turned it down. That man was Azed Five, but the only thing he cared about was himself. He acted on his own choice to hurt people for his own selfish desires, he even put those close to me in danger. It took Backdraft sacrificing his own life to put a stop to him, something that I could have prevented."
Murmurs rose back through the crowd, as Big Chill finally looked the cameras in the eye.
"I want to be a hero, but more importantly I want to help because I have the power to do so. So please, let me help….oh, and my friends want to help too. There's a ton of them like me who are very different but have trained to control themselves and help people. Thank you for listening."
After a sudden ramble that felt added on at the last minute, the self proclaimed 'Big Chill' flew off from the stand and over the crowd until disappearing in the sky.
Cueball leaned back in her recliner, silently applauding her student. Good job Izuku.
"What a load of bull."
And the moment was gone, Cueball glancing back and seeing Deatharms taking a massive swig out of his pint. "It's a cheap tactic using a mutation quirk to get pity points."
"Something wrong with mutants?" Centipeder hissed towards the other hero.
"Of course not." Deatharms began to elaborate. "But he's clearly using it to justify acting out from before."
"Yep." Mirko had to agree. "I've seen that tactic used too many times."
"It doesn't matter what any of you think." Gang Orca, making a surprise visit to Cueball's place made the room shake with his voice. "You heard Endeavor, he's been given authority to act. How many of us could have actually stopped that villain let alone detain him with our own quirks?"
Not a single hand was raised, further proving his point. "There, then if he or any of his 'friends' show up to help then they could be the key to solving whatever we can't."
"Alright fellas." Cueball got up from her chair, hoisting up another drink. "Controversy aside, it took a good hero to save our asses. A round on the house in memory of Backdraft!"
"To Backdraft!" Many others cheered, eager to get themselves a free drink.
"The cheap stuff Thin Man!" Cueball yelled out as she came up to someone who she never expected to be on her side. "Thanks for that."
"Someone has to state the obvious. Even if it makes some unhappy."
"Geez, you know I need to stay on people's good side to make a living." Cueball joked, going over to grab a drink for the man personally. "So, what brought you over here?"
"I heard that the Midoriya household was recently attacked again, the young girl being the target."
"You hear about things fast." Cueball poured a salty splatoon for him, offering the massive glass that looked average in his hand. "What do you want to do about it?"
"They'll need to relocate in case other distant members of their gang retaliate, yes? I'm also aware of how much business that one child has brought to my aquarium."
"You offering to put them up in a fish tank?"
"No, but I do have an ocean front property I was going to turn into a rehabilitation center. Perhaps I can discuss it with them further about what uses that building can serve as."
A brilliant idea came across Cueball's mind, specifically on how their little alien club needed a clubhouse. "Can we put a pool table in it?"
"It's not for you."
Now that finals were over, and the country was reeling from a threat it was not prepared for, everyone seemed to just enjoy being alive in their own ways. School was out, summer was here, and there was nothing to fear except wasting time.
For Izuku, that fear was based on a very real threat that was looming in the near future and wouldn't waste any time preparing to face it.
"Remember." The secret agent drove the car to the scene, Cueball riding shotgun with Izuku in the back. "Just because we have given you partial permission to act, you are not allowed to engage until we are informed of your whereabouts or you're with a licensed pro. Do I make myself clear?"
"Crystal sir." Izuku quickly held up the omnitrix, dialing in an alien to use.
"There's nothing to worry about." Cueball assured the man with a hefty pat. "We've got this, it's just a patrol."
*BWOOSH*
They looked back to examine what Izuku had chosen, and saw a cat like blue humanoid wearing an athletic combat uniform with the dial on his chest.
"What's this one do?" Cueball questioned.
"Revonnahganders are flexible and highly athletic. They are capable of many feats that would put our olympic athletes to shame." Izuku recited in his new form. "I figured for a basic patrol having a well rounded simple alien would help the people get used to my transformations."
"Huh, so nothing flashy?" Cueball sounded a little disappointed.
"I am afraid not." Izuku admitted.
"They also don't seem to use contractions." The trickshot hero joked as she got out of the car. "See ya later Bubbles!"
"Goodbye Agent Bubbles." Izuku bid farewell. "I am grateful for your organization assisting me to take a more proactive role in this."
"Just remember." The man dipped his sunglasses down. "Only use the aliens we know aren't in our universe, otherwise we'll get unwanted attention."
Strumming along on a guitar, Kyoka could feel the chords deeper than before, the sound reverberating through her body instead of before when she could just listen directly to her middle ear. While her own house was filled with a collection of instruments, it was still nice to go to a music store and try out some of the instruments that floated through.
"Hey Kyoka!"
Looking over to the blond holding out a pair of large headphones, she allowed him to slip it over her head as he went over to the soundmixer.
"I figured with my powers letting me control electricity so well, I could make crazy electro pop stuff."
He brought his fingers to the various buttons, mixing and mashing whatever sounded cool to him while managing to alter it with his own sparks. As impressive as the potential sounded, all she could hear was garbage.
"You should practice, a lot."
"That bad huh?" Taking out a handful of button cell batteries to munch on, Denki continued to try mastering an instrument by himself in less than ten minutes, "Maybe I'll get good enough in time for the Cultural Festival, our class could put on a wicked show."
"Doubt that would ever happen."
"Why? Because you could just be a one person band?"
"It's just, it feels like my style has changed. While I listened to some techno I always stuck with rock."
"You can still do rock." Giving a couple sparks between his fingers, he set up for the joke. "After all, I am a fan of AC DC."
"I'd have to reverse auto tune myself to sound like myself before." She plucked a few more strings, making the guitar gently weep.
"Hey, you know since Izuku can scan quirks and all, he could scan your mom's and change you back to full human right?"
"I know." Kyoka set the instrument down, deciding to look through some records while they chatted. "But if I want to be a hero, my current powers are way better than before."
"I feel ya. But you want to find a way to play music with nothing holding you back right?"
"I do." Kyoka looked down to her feet, remembering the hard decision she made as a child. "And Izuku did point out how I could sing and fight at the same time, but I just haven't found something that works with the new me. Ever since I was a kid, I knew I had to pick one or the other."
"You're passionate about music though." Denki grabbed her attention, lifting her spirits. "It's a huge part of you, and I can't imagine you giving that up."
"So, you're saying I should stop training to be a hero?"
"You are a musician, and a hero too."
Feeling the sudden inspiration, Kyoka was suddenly ignored as Denki's high energy and limited attention span already moved on to search through the albums. "Hey, found some rock in the techno section. Maybe this is what you're after?"
Holding up a band she had never heard of, Kyoka decided to give it another try. "Starset huh? Maybe we should listen to a song or two before buying it."
"Huh, yeah, that would save a ton of money."
The two were suddenly interrupted by some commotion outside. Peaking their gazes through the front glass panes of the shop, they saw a villain being intercepted by a hero. A regular occurrence in their society, and it seemed like it was decently handled.
"Stop right there!" Mt Lady commanded the villain. "Or else you might just have to get squashed."
The man under the old rags and clothes did have a bug-like appearance, plenty of sweets in his grasp as he drooled over them. It was disturbing how he didn't seem all there in the head.
A swarm of insects were summoned out of nowhere, quickly overwhelming the hero as wings ripped themselves free out of the dirtied coat.
Denki and Kyoka watched on as the villain was making an escape, as Mt Lady was trying to swat away the wasps assaulting her giantess frame.
*Fwooosh*
A flame burned away the bugs, a figure snatching the villain and slamming him into the ground.
It's captor, a FRIGGIN DRAGON?!
"Holy shit!" Denki pressed his face against the glass. "That's a dragon, a real dragon!"
"No it's not." Kyoka pointed towards the 'dragon's' chest, where a green hourglass symbol rested on its chest connecting to the harness around it.
"There are dragon aliens?"
"Maybe that's where the mythology comes from."
"Huh…..Hey, do your parents stack a bunch of chores on you too?"
"Oh my gosh yes it sucks even if I can get them all done in an hour."
The benefit of being half dead, was that she never really needed to sleep. In the dark hours of the night, Reiko could float down from her room through the floor, grab whatever food she wanted, and go back up to eat in solitude. Her light bulbs had long been removed, the girl hating how the sensation felt against the rips of her skin.
Every now and then she'd fidget with them, peeking under to see her true body underneath. Izuku warned her that light would hurt even worse, potentially killing her. So she did what he said and never removed her skin.
Thinking of Izuku, it was about that time.
With the many therapy sessions with Hound Dog, Reiko realized that she was obsessed with assuring Izuku was safe. It wasn't unhealthy though, it was just that she wanted to make sure he was ok since he saved her life and all.
Checking up on him every half an hour wasn't harmful to anyone, especially when they didn't know.
Flying over the night sky and invisible, Reiko quickly spotted Izuku's home and entered through the ceiling.
Poking her head down into his room, he could see him in his 'Big Chill' form nestled with his children as they slept. Their snores each let out puffs of frosty air.
Yep, nothing wrong about checking up on a friend while they were sleeping.
Within the comforts of his own home, Erasherhead liked spending time with his many pets. More recently though, it felt like he had unwillingly adopted another.
"Dude." Hizashi Yamada, aka Present Mic picked the furthest seat away from the crowd of kittens. "I know I wasn't a cat person before, but I think from now on we should hang out at my place."
"It's too loud and flashy there." Aizawa shut the man down, stretching out his arm into several thin strips to let the cats swat away at them. "Don't worry, they won't bug you as long as you don't-"
"Merow." One of the cats spoke to the man, who only he could understand.
"Nevermind, they're getting agitated with you shedding in their territory."
"Not my fault." Taking off his jacket, Hizashi showed the mat of fur retained in his coat. "No matter what shampoo I use, I'm always leaving hair everywhere I go! I'm shocked I haven't run into a little listener who is allergic yet."
"Are you using animal shampoo?"
"...should I be using that stuff?"
Sometimes, Aizawa questioned his friendship with the man. He wasn't a dog person after all. "Come on, there should be some mutant quirk stores that have what you need."
"ALRIIIIGHT SHOPPING-GAh! Get off!"
"Stop yelling in my home."
For some, more free time meant even more work. Especially for those who had to make some adjustments to their lives.
"Ok." Powerloader was working on his new hero suit to be more compatible with himself. "Might have to make it more compact, maybe just a harness attachment with a-"
"Telescopic arms that are connected to her spinal cord?!" Mei leaned down from her perch above, also deciding to spend her time in the workshops of UA during her break.
"No." Shooting down the idea, the man realized he would first have to start with a cushioned frame to handle the vibrations he could put out. "Go home."
"No way!" Leaping back into the cockpit, Mei went back to work wiring the controls in her salvaged plane. "I've seen the future, and it's not on Earth! I'm going to take this baby to space!"
"Mow." A small creature resembling a cat sat right on the console, it's black liquid metal body with green circuit lines running along its skin flowing into parts of her work.
"That's right!" Mei nodded to her feline friend. "And you're going to take me there! Now, give me a little more juice to-hey where are you going?"
The cat leapt out of Mei's work, landing onto Powerloader's massive metal shoulders and observing his work instead.
"Remember what Midoriya said Hatsume?" The man gave a few scratches to the creature, getting a low mechanical hum in return that he assumed was a purr. "You have to ask her nicely, or he, it?"
The support technology teacher remembered the nightmare all too well when Hatsume barged in one day with permission from her guardian to have her quirk changed to something she said would let her merge and upgrade her babies. Midoriya, luckily saw the disaster that could come, and found a solution that would satisfy the girl's pestering and teacher her some basic manners and workplace safety.
He gifted her a pet, one that could do everything she wished but only if certain criteria were met.
One, she treated it with manners and respect, never pushing it to do what it didn't want to do.
Two, the work area was clean. A clean home was a happy home.
Three, whatever 'baby' she was making and wanted the cat to merge and upgrade would have to be tidy and well built. Cat's only liked the best and most sturdy toys after all.
With those rules, Mei's work and mannerisms began to improve. Because if they weren't up to expectations, the cat would wander off to another environment that was preferable. Now all the potential that Mei had was being pushed to greater heights to appease the creature, so then it would assist and make whatever she had even greater.
It also cut down on the odds of her babies randomly detonating, but on the rare occurrence it still happened his new body could easily take it. If only he could get over his massive craving for cheap fast food.
"Mow." Hopping down from its perch, the techno alien pet found itself attracted to another workstation, a bright red button laying smack dab in the center of it.
Oh no.
"Please wait!" Powerloader called out as the cat began playing with the little box with the bright red button in the center. One of his students for a final project had made a doomsday device and gave it a name no one could say, and it was now being played with by the cat's curiosity.
"No!" Mei shouted as she slid down her ladder. "You're supposed to play with my babies!"
"Come on." Both student and teacher cautiously approached the cat, whose paw was swatting against the red flashing light. "Let's not push the great big threatening button that should never ever be pressed under any circumstance."
*click*
"HIT THE DECK!"
Powerloader threw his durable body over Mei, shielding her from the
*Poof*
….
Slowly rolling back over, he saw the cat burp out the components of the doomsday device with a trail of smoke coming from its mouth he never knew it had.
"Huh, must have been a dud."
"Come on kitty!" Mei picked up her favorite pet, giving some pets and bringing her back to the workstation. "We've got a future to make! Will you help me make it, please?"
"Mow."
"GREAT! Now let's pump those thrust capacitors up to nine thousand percent!"
Maybe giving her mankind's greatest technological wonder wasn't such a good idea.
Waking up in her single studio apartment wasn't the best feeling. It was empty, lonely, and she kept finding herself floating with her stuff orbiting around her.
"No, go down." The half asleep Ochaco took back control of gravity, guiding the items back down to the ground gently. Well, at least that managed to wake her up. Moving over to the bathroom, summoning everything she needed to herself while multitasking came natural to her.
From brushing her teeth with one hand, having the water from the shower wash over her like an ocean current on a planet, her new powers were way too convenient now. Not that she was actually regretting her choice.
With UA coming up with the idea to claim that to her parents that they developed new quirk awakening techniques was easier to explain than Izuku having a PQE that could change her DNA to some quirk made creature and…yeah she preferred the first explanation.
Her, alongside several of her classmates still suspected there was something much bigger regarding Izuku's watch, but since he was trusting and helping they never dug too deep into it. She was grateful for what he had done for her and her family, and today she was about to enjoy a perk she had never realized was possible.
Throwing on a coat, some old flight goggles she found at a thrift store, and a warm hat, Ochaco made sure to have her quirk travel license she just obtained to go visit her parents.
Double checking that she didn't leave a stove on or the water running, Ochaco locked her door and looked up to the open sky. "Well, here goes nothing."
Japan had a decently strict no public quirk use policy, but thanks to Izuku's obsession over the subject he discovered for special cases citizens could be approved to use their quirk if it assisted with travel. They had begun the process before when she just had zero gravity, but now that she had way more control she was confident enough to take to the skies.
"WoooOOOOO!" She cried out as she ascended higher and higher, laughing as the anxiety stirred with adrenaline in her gut in a good way. Part of her was still on edge, because normally this would be illegal.
Not anymore, she was free to go fly off to visit her parents whenever they weren't busy!
"Oh, Oca-I mean, good morning citizen!"
"Wah!" Ochaco was nearly thrown off her flight when a stranger soared up next to her. He had gray skin, a dark shadow over his eyes, a white and green hero suit with a flickering cape attached to his shoulders. "Oh uh, goodmorning!"
The hero she didn't recognize gave a short laugh as he kept his fists forward in his flight. "Sorry to scare you. I assume you have a travel pass?"
"Y-yes sir!" Scrambling for her pocket, Ochaco quickly pulled out the piece of plastic that kept her in the law.
"Congratulations!" The hero didn't even bother double checking it. "It feels great flying doesn't it?"
"It really does." Ochaco watched the buildings pass under her, seeing every car moving in a line as specs. "Um, forgive me sir but, I don't recognize you. What's your hero name?"
"U-ultimo!" He didn't seem so sure in his name, but it was what he stuck with. He turned to his side, as if he was laying on the sky as he soared next to her. "I'm a, newer hero."
With his new position, Ochaco could see the hourglass symbol on his chest, the green matching his eyes in a familiar way. "Where did you get that thing?"
Ultimo paused, glancing down to the symbol on his chest. "Ah, this? It's uh, an insignia for me and my fellow heroes. You remember Big Chill's announcement?"
"Frozen Mothman's?"
The man seemed to grumble at the name, but still kept his stoic attitude. "Yes, Big Chill" He added more emphasis on the name. "I'm one of his friends under similar circumstances. I was just doing a quick patrol before returning to my friends."
"Oh nice." Ochaco was happy for more heroes, and from what she knew these guys were volunteers who didn't even get paid. "So how many of you guys are there?"
"A lot, and-"
"A PHONE CALL IS HERE!" Ultimo stopped, pulling out a green smartphone that looked just like one she's seen before. "Hello?...Yes….Of course! I'm on my way!"
Ochaco giggled, Ultimo noticing her amusement. "What is it?"
"Sorry, I just have a friend with the same ringtone. But duty called?"
"Yes, have a safe trip to your parents!" Ultimo sped off towards wherever he was needed. Ochaco left alone in the sky to keep going towards her home. Wait, she never said she was going to her parents right? Eh, maybe she did. She should pay more attention to what she says.
Tenya Ida worked hard to get where he could, to follow in his brother's footsteps and be better, faster, stronger. Though recently at home, it had become a challenge.
*Zip*
"Here's some snacks!" His thoughtful older brother had brought a plate full of freshly washed and sliced fruits to the table where he was studying.
"Thank you." Tenya picked up one of the orange slices, and noticed some apples to the side. "I wasn't aware we had apples."
"We were running low on food." His ever active brother sat down next to him, munching on some of the cantaloupe. While his physical appearance was something to get used to, it was mostly the blue fur that would throw him off. Luckily with his speed his brother was capable of quickly cleaning after himself, especially once their parents complained about the shedding. "So I took a quick trip just now to grab some fresh ones."
His brother's speed, was something to be jealous of. To think that he could go shopping, clean, and prep a whole fruit selection before Tenya could even wonder where his brother was….he had a lot of catching up to do.
"So." Already having eaten half of the fruit, Tensei leaned over his brother's shoulder. "What are you working on now?"
His quick thinking speed also made it seem like he had a very short attention span.
"Reviewing the transition from vigilantism to professional heroes." Tenya answered. "It's a confusing period, and in light of the Frozen Mothman being permitted to act as a hero, I'm wondering if this could spark people to take the law into their own hands in expectations they'll be allowed to."
"Yeah, there's a lot to think about there." Tensei agreed with him, having his own personal grudge against the villain turned hero. "But it's still too early to tell. People don't really know how to react to these heavy mutant heroes with their own separate hero system."
"Yes, there's a lot to think about."
"While you're thinking about it." Tensei yanked his younger brother onto his feet. "Let's get some blood pumping through your body. When was the last time we pushed those engines of yours to their limit?"
"Two days ago, when I tried racing you."
"Oh…well how are you feeling now?"
"Good enough." Tenya, despite just getting over the cramps was ready to go. He had to improve the quirk handed down by his family. And while he does wish to get quick results, his quirk had been improved on and passed down for generations of heroes learning how to be the quickest responders. He would not throw away a legacy just for a quick answer.
"AHAHAHAHA!" Mina squealed as she was peppered by the assault of blue fuzzy appendages tickling her body. Her back was against the sand, rolling around as she played with the children in broad daylight. Eri nearby in the ocean water with her pants rolled up and a big net in her grasp.
Along the beach was a cliffside home, now being reconstructed to serve even more purposes. Only the closest, most trustworthy were allowed here during the renovations. At the top was a simple home, simple in appearance but with some very high level tech running through its walls it could withstand more than it seemed.
It was close to the cliff with an old lighthouse (also refurbished) standing tall to look over the sea. Along the cliff wall itself was a staircase, an elevator hidden in the stone, and a much deeper structure that was hidden from all.
A project to create a secret base under a well fortified home without disturbing the residents could have taken months on a rushed schedule, but with the assistance of several super powered alien heroes it could be done in a week.
Powerloader was able to carve easily into the mountain while Eijiro helped to set up several supports inside to house an ever growing team. Hatsume, with her own skills and a techno alien cat were able to set up the wiring and all sorts of hidden functions.
With the Uraraka family called upon to do basic renovations to the home and lighthouse alongside providing several supplies, made sure the living space was ready for the Midoriya family needs. Why the Midoriya's needed a massive freezer room? They would never know.
Denki and Kyoka were a two person army turned to nearly fifty, easily moving anything to where it needed to go.
Honestly besides some touch ups Izuku didn't have to do much himself. Besides have a cloaking field active to keep the property and residents hidden.
"Are you sure this is on?" Himiko asked her brother who was currently small enough to fit inside the small generator device built into a rock.
"Of course it's on." Gray Matter fiddled inside, fine tuning the mechanism. "Why else do you think I would let Mina play with the kids out in the open?"
"What if someone followed us in? Wouldn't they easily know there's something here and see it when they got close enough?" HImiko tried to probe it from all angles.
"That's the beauty of the telepathic circuit." Crawling out of an open panel, Gray Matter hopped onto Himiko's shoulder. "Even if they followed us here, the circuit would cause the mind to lose focus until they found something that wasn't in the direction of our home. To them, they would have forgotten they were following one of us and assumed they got lost and go somewhere else. Their brain would refuse to acknowledge the property!"
"Hey hey Izuku!" Mei came rushing up with her cat perched on her shoulder. "What if inside the house, we put in a-"
"Does it risk exploding?" He cut her off, the girl trying to think of a way to not answer that.
"Not if it's left alone."
"But if someone bumped into it?"
"...boom." Sighing with her head hung low, Mei went back to her list of boring duties to help out.
"Yo my bros!" Eijiro came back from his work in making sure everything was structurally sound. "That Bubbles guy is working a fine grill right now! Let's get something to eat!"
"Eeeeet!" The blubies all flew over to him, their teeth nibbling on his diamond surface. Eijiro broke back out into a sprint with them, Mina running right behind.
Hopping off of Himiko, Izuku turned back to human as he followed the others along to the faint trail of smoke rising in a tucked away part of the beach.
Eri came forward, having caught herself a live crab in her net.
"Are you going to eat that?" Himiko asked, eyeing the delectable crustacean.
"Probably not." releasing the crab, they watched it march sideways back into the tide. "But I hope there is some grilled fsh. I'm surprised you said you'd be ok moving here. You hate the beach."
"Yeah, while I get lots of sand in myself easily and I can't go in the water, our house is up on the cliff so I don't have to come down here."
Content in walking barefoot on the sand, the Midoriya siblings all walked in comfortable silence as the rolling shores gently crashed beside them. Izuku soon in their solitary walk, took note of Eri's mismatched eyes. "I think you're missing a contact."
Quickly pulling out her phone, Eri hummed in displeasure seeing she did indeed lose one of her green colored contacts. "Dang it."
"Eh." Shrugging beside her, Himiko didn't see a big issue. "I mean, the worst of those guys are locked up yeah? Plus remember all the times we'd go to the beach and you'd get sand trapped behind one of them?"
Thinking over her image, Eri covered her green eye, seeing her own natural red one looking back at her. The small scarred child she had hidden for so long, then she covered it, looking back at a green eye that was similar to her family, but didn't seem natural.
At least, she could still have her hair dyed seaweed green right?
Taking out the other green contact and placing it in its container, Eri was taking in the world without the filter. She had a great life now, but she couldn't ignore what happened or will happen to blind herself by the present.
"Izuku?"
"Yeah Eri?"
"Do you also think those guys won't come after me again?"
With a confident smirk, Izuku flashed the omnitrix to her. "Never."
"Then why did you convince Mom we should move?"
He stopped walking, his sisters pausing soon after as Izuku glanced back down to something under his foot that only he could see. "Just a precaution."
"Hurry up!" Agent Bubbles, without the suit, without the sunglasses, just looked like a guy as he flipped a fried piece of spam on the grill, sporting a large red Hawaiian shirt. "Come get them while they're hot."
With his emotions on more clear display, he appeared concerned when he saw a faintly haunted expression on Izuku. "Everything ok?"
"Yeah, just….reminded of someone."
*THWIP*
Swinging around the pipes and buildings, Ojiro was taking full advantage of his UA gym pass. School was technically out, but its facilities were still open to its staff and students. He planned on getting used to maneuvering through all sorts of terrain. Getting a new quirk, or, DNA he had some catching up to do to be his best self.
*THWACK*
A strand of tape landed nearby, a boy zipping closer with his elbows.
Recognizing the kid to be from class b, Ojiro increased his speed, ran along a wall, leapt higher, swung faster, all to keep himself going faster than someone could catch up. When he rounded a corner, he saw another strand of tape being used to slingshot the kid across the area.
The race was on, the two swinging and using their sticky strands to propel themselves through the area. Sometimes if it was overcrowded with all sorts of obstacles, Ojiro used his increased agility and acrobatics to leap and push himself along the beams like they were made for him to traverse through.
Reaching the highest structure, Ojiro allowed his feet to stick to the side as he sprinted up, the other student launching himself up repeatedly with the tape.
Panting and feeling exhausted, Ojiro laid down on the cool cement as the other boy drenched in sweat leaned against the ac unit.
"Holy *pant* smokes man. *pant* didn't realize *pant* we had another *pant* swinger in our school." Pulling out a water bottle, squeezing the contents into his mouth and over his head, he offered it over to Ojiro.
"I'm good." Feeling his stamina already recovering, Ojiro just did a couple stretches as his lungs caught up with his blood's demand for oxygen. "You're in one b right?"
"Yeah." Sitting down, the boy's limbs began to shake after the speed he had to force himself through. "I'm Sero. You're, Ojiro right?"
"Yes." A little skeptical, Ojiro started walking over to the edge of the structure.
"Hey woah wait up!" Getting up quickly, Sero caught up before Ojiro could swing away. "Just, a lot of the guys in my class have been talking and we're trying to figure out just what is going on with you guys."
"Excuse me?"
"Dude, you're blue, you have a tail and two extra arms-and eating a banana!"
Munching on his snack, Ojiro rose a brow as he tried to figure out this guy's angle. "Didn't your teacher tell you?"
"He said he couldn't say much, other than due to the stress some of you guys face you've experienced some quirk awakenings. But now we got teachers saying they got some, and Monoma is up in arms trying to figure out what makes your guys' quirks work since he can't copy them for some reason. I don't care exactly what you guys are doing, but I'm just wondering because me and a few of my classmates are trying to get stronger to! Monoma thinks it has to do with the Midoriya guy that won the sports festival and-"
"Wait." Taking this more seriously, Ojiro finished his snack and sat down along the edge, seeing how this might be a longer conversation than he expected. "What exactly does he think about Midoriya?"
"Oh." Suddenly seeing how the spidermonkey boy was eyeing him, Sero hoped he didn't go somewhere he wasn't supposed to. "Well, we know he's quirkless. I don't have an issue with that if that's what you're worried about. We also know his sister is Himiko and something is going on between her and Todoroki."
Really? Huh, now that he thought about it she did sit around him a lot. But he was never sure if it was a love or a hate thing given how she made those threats to him. "What else?"
"Well, we know he's in the business course? Oh! And something about his PQE. At first none of us really listened to Monoma, but he started pointing out how he was around you guys a bunch, and how those that are around him get quirk upgrades, especially those really close to him. I don't know if that's really true, but if you know something, would you pass along a message that me and some others are wanting to know if it's possible to get better quirks?"
Ojiro couldn't make any promises, but he was going to bring it up. "I'll talk to him."
"Wait, he really is behind all of that?"
Shit.
"Talk to our teacher." Quickly switching the focus, Ojiro got back to his feet and took a step into the air. "But I can't promise anything."
"Sweet man!" Sero, already jumping off flicked out a strand of tape from his elbow. "Race you back to the gate!"
Hopefully, this wasn't about to get out of hand.
Their home was finished, Izuku actually had his own room now on the top floor with an adjoining door to his kids' walk in freezer room. Looking out the window where the moon was barely hovering over the ocean, knowing his kids were sound asleep, he was on the phone with someone he wanted to be with right now.
"The photos you sent look amazing! I'm going to try and convince my mom to let me have a day to myself soon and you can teleport me over." Pony excitedly chatted away on the other side of the world.
"Our time zones are almost complete opposites though." Izuku pointed out as he double checked to make sure he had everything unpacked and in its place. Several All Might figures, almost a complete collection of all the local heroes, and a new memorial Backdraft poster right on his door, to remind him everyday he left his room. "Your day over here would start when everyone is going to bed."
"I don't mind just laying around with you…If your Mom is ok with that! Speaking of which, how is she doing with the move?"
"Good." Izuku looked over to the other window that gave him a view of part of the beach, seeing his mother walking beside Naomasa with their hands almost touching. "Naomasa has been spending a lot of time with her to help out."
"I think he's just doing that because he wants to."
"Probably." Taking a moment to laugh over the obvious romance, Pony decided to continue probing her boyfriend for more.
"I saw you do a bunch of hero work today. A couple of those forms are super cool!"
"Which one is your favorite?"
"Today? Hmmm, the dragon one is awesome, but your Ultimo has so many uses. Laser eyes, freeze breath, flight, speed, strength, what can't he do?!"
"He can't eat chocolate."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah, it's super poisonous to his kind."
"But it's fine now, this 'Agent Bubbles' is part of some group that was created to deal with aliens should they ever show up and Nezu reached out to him?"
"I think he's more aware of aliens than he lets on. He seemed aware that P'andor was a species that wasn't from around here."
"Crazy, but I'm happy they're trusting you to go out and use your alien forms finally! You're pretty much a pro hero already!"
"Thanks." Izuku felt a little embarrassed, especially over how he ended up avoiding cameras where he could. "But, all of this feels like practice for something bigger."
"You mean, the person after the omnitrix?"
"Yeah." Gazing back up to the sky, Izuku got lost in the stars that held countless lives that were in danger. "I'm shocked we haven't heard, or seen anything yet. Maybe he left Earth to look somewhere else."
"I hope, but how can we know for sure?"
Two months, he would know for sure in two months or less.
"I need to be ready for everything, just in case."
A streak of blue zoomed across the dark sky, Izuku narrowing his eyes at the strange shooting star as he felt the omnitrix weigh down on his wrist.
He had to be ready.

david arturo farfan soto 1998: You're right, I do need to bring it up again at some point soon.
HeartGemHolder: I mean, Aoyama knows a lot about Izuku already but what makes you think he'll discover how aliens are real and he can turn into them? At the end of this next arc, I'll revisit the Waterhose family in more depth.
Yes, he does have that alien, as featured in this chapter.
GuestTechie: We'll get to that soon, but not now.
AnimeFan13579: I saw your comment right after I wrote about Izuku having his family move.
Whywouldidothat2230: I can confirm, there will be nothing but respect for Backdraft's body.
Guest: Luckily Izuku is a good Dad, and I don't think there are many others who could handle five alien children.
