With the revelation that the Nice family had been taken to be turned into the dangerous Drekker for what seemed like since their inception, Paul and Taylor were left with more questions than answers.
Never did they experience an incident where Drekker took from the same family multiple times
It's known that turned-Drekker do not consider their former families as such, but because no one understood their thought process, it's difficult piecing together what was possible.
"Even if it were true, Doctor, why now?" Prospero questioned how this can be, pointing out that he didn't share their last name anymore, since history showed that Warren's wife remarried and switched hers and her children's surnames over to her new husband.
None of them came up to the hamlet, no mention of them even having the thought.
"Because she wanted to keep them away?" Taylor gave an idea as to why.
She broached if it was possible Warren told his wife about the family history, that his wife worried about her children, that she took a chance remarrying once Warren went missing, hoping that it would break what she would perceive as a curse.
Kept her children from coming here, in fear that they would "take flight" too, probably came up with every excuse known to man why neither children should even attempt the journey.
"How young were they when their father went missing?" Paul asks if Prospero knew anything about their ages.
Thinking back to when he first started looking into his family history, Prospero gestures that he thinks they were at least young enough that Warren's wife didn't have trouble having them acclimate to their stepfather.
No doubt that it would allow her to avoid them getting curious about their heritage, either.
That didn't last, however, as Prospero turned out, having grown extensively curious about his heritage as a young child.
"My father never spoken to me much about his side of the family, always told me to stay out of it, I never knew why," Prospero's face dropped as he it dawned on him.
When he was a young child, Prospero grew curious, as one does, and wanted to know about his family history.
His mother regaled him stories about her side all the time, but his father wouldn't hear of it, telling him that it'd be best if he forgot the whole thing.
Threatened his own son a couple of times so he wouldn't get any ideas.
For a while, Prospero grew quiet about wanting to explore his heritage, until his father's passing, and his curiosity reignited.
Shaking his head, Prospero stated that his father wouldn't have believed the stories, he was too logical for that, but Paul had his doubts, and said that while Prospero might've not shared the Nice surname anymore, he was still a Nice.
Paul then points out that if Prospero's father didn't believe in the legends, why he wouldn't allow Prospero the opportunity to learn about his family, unless he worried that the same fate would befall him if he did.
"Why didn't they come for me when I was living in Kent, Derbyshire, they could've come for me then, why did it matter that I come here?" Prospero couldn't believe that these creatures would wait for him to come to the castle.
It sounded so nonsensical to him that he paced around the TARDIS, unsure of what even was happening anymore.
"I don't know, Prospero, I just know for a fact that this can only go one way," Paul frowns as he informed Prospero that because of the situation, there's little he and Taylor can do for him.
"Doctor, what do you mean?" Taylor turned her head sharply as she glanced up to Paul with her emerald eyes glistening under the lights.
Heavily sighing, Paul tells her that he doesn't think keeping Prospero wrapped in rosemary will keep the fiends away for long.
Moreover, he has a hunch.
Glancing up at the monitors above, Paul sees that the TARDIS has already made it apparent, they couldn't abscond from the hamlet with Prospero to avoid his fate, this was a fixed point.
Prospero was always going to be a Drekker, he would always come up here to learn about his family, even if he remained ignorant like his father wanted.
Fight all he wanted, it would only delay it, but it was the truth, and Paul wish it were different.
"You're the Doctor aren't you; can't you do anything?" Prospero grew skeptical that there was nothing Paul could do for him to prevent his fate.
Shaking his head, Paul states that short of death was the only outcome for Prospero.
"And remember, Prospero, if not you, someone else in your family will be here," Paul pointedly tells him.
Should Prospero commit suicide, it wouldn't stop it, the call will go to someone else.
Someone else that Paul can't save.
"What if I refuse?" Prospero angrily gestures towards Paul.
What if he tells Gallico and whatever that he doesn't want to become whatever the hell Drekker were, but Paul quietly shook his head at Prospero's assumption.
Seriousness in his tone of voice, Paul states, "You don't want to refuse them, Prospero. They can be… persuasive…"
And trust Paul when he tells Prospero this, these fiends are fully aware of what they can do to people, and they aren't hesitant showing this to them.
Throwing his arms up, Prospero shouts, "What would you have me do?"
Pulling Taylor close to him, Paul says, "In your final hours, Prospero, you ought to tell the tell. People need to know about them. That they exist. And they aren't going away anytime soon."
While time will tell when they come for Prospero, he ought to make use of his time wisely, by writing everything about his family, warning the populace of the fiends.
"And you expect my readers to believe this?" Prospero questioned him.
Speaking up, Taylor tells him, "It's worth trying, Prospero. Even if they don't believe it necessary, someone out there will."
Prospero may not want to believe it, but these fiends have been in existence for who knows how long, someone out there knows they exist, incapable of telling all, afraid of being shunned, but even someone like Prospero, who has some reach, can help them realise they're not alone.
Maybe he's right and his readers won't believe it true, that doesn't negate what his work can do for someone who has witnessed their horrifying attacks.
"What if someone doesn't want me to tell all?" Prospero raised his brow as he pointed out that if they're telling him the truth, then there are people out there who wanted nothing more than this kept under wraps, using whatever means to get their ways.
And he would be right, as Paul admits that he and others have been working to the near bone revealing their existence to all, but fate has a way of working against them.
"You don't have much time left, Prospero, the last thing you want is regrets. Would you please try?" Taylor looked towards Prospero, her emerald eyes glistening.
Chewing on his lip, Prospero pondered, but fate wouldn't have had this encounter happen without reason.
Exhaling sharply, Prospero accepted that he won't get out of this as himself, but he won't make it easy.
"You say rosemary bothers them, why's that?" Prospero grew interested while these creatures have a strong dislike towards the flower.
Shrugging, Paul explained that he never figured it out, all he knew that the scent kept them away and light as well.
Rosemary and light.
That's it.
Attack them, even in defense, and there would be hell to pay.
They may lumber and sluggishly move, but hell hath no fury than an angry Drekker.
Especially, the Big One!
Incapable of escaping his fate, even if he tried fleeing to the far reaches of the world, he will be found one way or another, kill himself, someone else will be forever daunted by their heritage, Prospero's forced to swallow his pride.
