Lordon briefed the Jabberwockies where they're scavenging as they stood idle wearing their gear.
Pointing towards Paul and Taylor, Lordon went on to explain what they were here to do and what he expected from the Jabberwockies.
Paul could see how distrustful the Jabberwockies were seeing him and Taylor seemingly coming out of nowhere, but when Lordon mentioned a possible lead that would end the darkness, they relented.
As he paced around the room, Lordon went over the areas he and the Jabberwockies already scavenged and picked through, allowing them not to waste time around areas they cleared.
Seeing the eyes on him and Taylor, Paul put on a brave face as he gave assurance that he'd find something that'll help end the darkness, but those silent looks were enough for him to recoil.
With Lordon giving a quick rundown what the Jabberwockies were looking for, Paul and Taylor shared a quiet conversation.
"They been like this for years. Even if we do manage, it'll take just as long for their eyes to readjust, if at all," Taylor mentions as she stood close to Paul while looking over the intrepid Jabberwockies.
Worse would be the children.
Around the clock resources and therapy sessions, but it's possible they will have vision problems.
As he watched Lordon, Paul replied, "I know. Those animals, the plant life, would also struggle to adapt, too."
They'll adjust to only having a set number of hours of darkness, but it'll take longer for them to start evolving to handle the return of sunlight.
Could easily result in skin lesions and dire side effects, make them hyper aggressive with them aware that there's no longer a permanent cover for their hunting.
It's difficult to say, but Paul assessed that the animals would spend generations evolving back to what they were before this happened.
"Any questions?" Lordon asks if any Jabberwocky needed elaboration on what they're doing this session, as he calls it, and no one raised their hands, amped to start another session.
Muttering under his breath, Lordon called them adrenaline junkies before asking Paul and Taylor if they had any questions.
"No, sir, but a minor word, if you will?" Paul gestures as he wanted to say something to the Jabberwockies.
Eying him, Lordon allowed Paul to take his spot as he overlooked the Jabberwockies.
With eyes on him, Paul clears his throat as he explains to the Jabberwockies what to look out for when they're going towards the old television station, something they might never have encountered before.
He could tell the Jabberwockies were silently questioning him as he kept pace informing them of the possibilities that they might encounter one or the other mechanical fiends.
A hand raised and Paul called on a Jabberwocky.
"Yeah. If they were here, why haven't we seen them?" Rodin questions why none of them encountered the aliens that Paul spoke about, why they haven't tracked down their dwellings, either subjugate them or outright exterminating them.
Scratching the side of his face, Paul explains that he can't be sure why, only that there was always a reason for everything when it came to both Daleks and Cybermen.
Whatever the reason, Paul would find out, and he gave his word.
"Conventional weapons don't often work on them, they been preemptive about coming to foreign planets—and when they know I'm around," Paul sighs as he informed the Jabberwockies how they'll find it difficult to open fire on the species. Reaching the end of his speech after breaking down each species attributes that the Jabberwockies needed to be aware, Paul gestures as he urged the Jabberwockies to stay close together, and retreat if necessary.
He saw another hand raise and when he called on the Jabberwocky he heard, "What if you're wrong?"
Acknowledging this, Paul expresses that if he was wrong, then it will be on him.
One final check by Lordon, everyone headed with him to the entrance.
Security guards waited by the blast doors as Lordon spoke to them before they positioned themselves to the sides as the blast doors opened outward for the group to step through the darkness beyond with Paul and Taylor in the middle of the group.
The air was still, Paul could smell the faint aroma of autumn, but not much else.
It was silent, hardly a cricket, for Paul and Taylor they were on edge, but for the Jabberwockies, this was normal for them, the only time they reacted was when there was sound, other than that, they traveled in a formation that prevented them from making much noise.
Having been trained since jumping at the chance when the project came into fruition after years of debates, these men and women worked on controlling their breathing and movement to the point they hardly made a sound.
Often, there'd be complaints since Jabberwockies hardly break from their training when not out on a session, that it was common for them accidentally scaring people simply by coming up to them quietly.
Strenuous training giving them a chance to pull supplies from one end of the city to the other, the work of a Jabberwocky wasn't all roses, and not many could handle the first-year training for whatever reasons.
Those remaining earned their marks and gratitude for risking their lives bringing supplies back.
Sensing nothing that suggested he couldn't despite the fears he held, Paul was able to hold a silent conversation with Taylor as he used his telepathic link with her while they followed the Jabberwockies.
Going through the pathways that were charted years before, the group started going through a different pathway leading to the old television station.
"Why go the efforts enshrouding an entire planet in darkness, what purpose does it serve?" Taylor questions the reasoning for the eternal darkness.
Neither species needed or could hide in the darkness for long and there were more efficient ways of masking their presence without drawing attention, that well, something troublesome.
As he walked with her next to him, Paul responds, "There's always a reason for it, Grace."
Even if it didn't make sense to him or her.
Hopefully, once they arrive to the old television station, there will be some way of figuring out why, for now, he and Taylor attentively followed every instruction given by Lordon as they're led through the darkness.
Walking methodically to avoid making too much noise, Taylor began feeling unseen eyes on her, not a threat, however.
She couldn't explain it, but it felt familiar to her for some reason that even though she tried conveying this to Paul, it was like someone was preventing her from saying anything about the unseen eyes.
Paul didn't react, either by the same force preventing him, or it was focused solely on her, for whatever reason she cannot explain.
As the journey to the old television station went on, the unseen eyes never left Taylor and she could never find relief from it, the force kept her from alerting Paul and the Jabberwockies.
Felt as though she was hearing murmurs, but she could never discern the words, where they were coming from, who was murmuring, and this continued until the group reached the doors.
"You sure this is wise?" Cyprus questioned Lordon having them go inside a dark building as there's worry on his unseen face.
Turning his head, Lordon replied, "We've never tried this before, I know, but if the Doctor says this is a good place to check, we've to try."
With that, the Jabberwockies proceeded to break into the building.
