"You sounded upset on the phone, Olivia. What got you like that?"

"Fitz did! Fitz got me upset."

Pacing around Dr. Thornton's office, Olivia hadn't slept again the night before. Not even a nap. On her morning run, she called her therapist to schedule a session for later in the week. But when Verna Thornton heard her tone, she insisted Olivia come in immediately. Liv checked Fitz's schedule to ensure that she had enough time to go to her appointment and make it back to the office before Fitz did.

"Okay, Fitz is your new boss, correct?"

"Yes."

"When did you drop the Mr. Grant formality? Last time I saw you, he was Mr. Grant."

"About a month ago. He told me to call him Fitz. I told him it was inappropriate," she smiled remembering that conversation. "And he said, 'let's be inappropriate'. It took a while, but I got used to calling him Fitz."

Jotting down notes, Verna listened to what she had to say closely. "Then what did that do?"

"Nothing really."

Looking up at her, Verna watched her continue to pace in circles around the room. "It did something to you. What brought you here today? I haven't seen you in nearly four months. And I haven't had any reply from you about… anything, actually. So, what made you call me this morning?"

Olivia stopped behind a chair and put her hands on the back of it to rest a moment. "I went out last night. I had dinner with another attorney who works at the firm. I thought it was a work dinner and it wasn't. He hit on me and wanted me to go to his hotel room across the street. Fitz's wife broke into the office and spray painted the walls with terms about me. None of which were flattering. And he thought I was sleeping with Fitz. Which made him think I was going to sleep with him too. After I told him no, he tried to force me across the street with him and I broke his wrist. Then he left me on the sidewalk alone and I walked to the park."

"Olivia, I'm not seeing where Fitz comes into play here that makes you mad at him."

"I called Fitz and asked him to come get me. And he came. Even though he was pissed that I was going to dinner with Jake he still came to get me."

"Why did you call Fitz?"

"Huck was already asleep and Jerry's in New York."

"But why not call a cab instead of Fitz?"

Liv started her pacing going back and forth, trying to figure out why she hadn't called a cab. "I don't know. I guess I didn't think about it."

"Are you sure you're upset with Fitz and not yourself? He came when you called, when you needed someone. Why are you upset with him?"

"Because it just made me love him more! I don't want to be in love with him but I am. And every time I try to push him away, he does something that reels me back in. I've been a bitch, a control freak, and awful. And still, he does something that just makes me love him even more than I already do. I tell him I don't want to go to dinner, and he makes me. I tell him I only want a salad and he ordered me a steak. I twist my ankle on a run, and he takes care of me. I have tried everything I could think of to make him hate me so I can just work but he won't hate me!"

"Have you told him that you love him?"

"Don't be absurd, Verna. I cannot tell my boss that I love him."

"Then you have distanced yourself again?"

"I'm trying to."

Walking into the lobby, Fitz expected to see Olivia standing there with his coffee as she did every morning. But only seeing the receptionist and not Olivia, he was more than disappointed. He better not have done anything else to her. Heading down to their office, Fitz grew more concerned when her things weren't hanging up behind her desk and she was nowhere to be found in the office. Olivia is NEVER late. Going back up to reception he kept an eye out for her.

"Bella, has Liv been here?"

"Not yet, Mr. Grant. I'm sure she'll be here soon," Bella looked back at her computer but could still feel him standing there. "Would you like me to call her?"

"No, that's alright, I'll call her in a few." Before he could turn around to go to his office the elevator doors opened. Another hit of disappointment came when he didn't see her step off, but Jake did. Seeing Jake, Fitz wanted to scream and jump him but smiled wide when he saw the cast on his hand. "Nice accessory, Jake."

"Fuck you, Fitz."

Laughing, Fitz walked back to his office and called Olivia. No answer? What the hell? Your phone is practically glued to your hand. Hearing her voicemail pick up, he waited for the tone. "You're late for work, Liv. You are never late for work. Call me. I need to know you're alright."

"Do you need to get that?"

Hearing her phone go off, Olivia was too focused on her conversation to answer it.

"They can leave a message."

"Sure. You look exhausted, Olivia. Have you taken any of the sleeping pills?"

"I told you I was not going to. I'm fine as long as I have Huck or Jerry in bed with me."

"And when was the last time you slept through the night? A complete full night's sleep."

"Nine days ago. But I'm going to sleep tonight and tomorrow night."

"When you manage to get your few minute naps, are they helpful at all? Or are you still having the nightmares?"

Nodding, Olivia took a seat and ignored her phone going off again. "I can't make them stop. The sleeping pills didn't help before and upping the dosage isn't doing any good. We've tried the hypnotherapy and that didn't work. We've done everything that is possible to do. I don't see another way."

"You said talking about it helped some. At least it made the nightmares stop for a while. Would you like to talk about it again?"

"No! I don't want to talk about it. I don't want to think about it. I just want it to never have happened."

"Have you heard from him lately?"

"Not directly. I'm sure I will though. Fitz has some business with him."

"And you've been handling that alright until now?"

"I don't have contact with him. He's only…" as she tried to reply, her phone started going off for the fifth time. Irately, Liv picked up her phone. "What?"

"What are you doing in Maryland?" Fitz asked ignoring her tone.

"I have an appointment. Your schedule is clear for the day. I'll be to work before you are."

"Too late, I'm already here. And you live in DC and your doctors are in DC and Virginia. What are you doing in Maryland?"

"It's seven in the morning. What are you doing at work?"

"Liv, it's nearly ten. Did you fall asleep?"

"You are not funny." Looking up, Verna held her phone out to show her the time. Fitz was right as it was nearly ten am. "Shit."

"I've been calling, texting, emailing. You aren't answering. What's going on?"

Trying to think of a way out, she went backwards in her head. "How do you know I'm in Maryland? I drove. Henry didn't drive me."

"Olivia," Fitz hesitated to answer, thinking quickly he needed to turn the conversation back. "Were you going to call me or let me know that you were coming in late?"

"Come to think of it, I didn't tell you where I was last night either."

"Fine, when will you be here?"

"Are you tracking my phone?" she yelled at him.

"Don't be…"

"Do not lie to me, Fitzgerald."

Fitz could tell by her tone this was not going to be okay with her. It didn't matter that he had a good cause to track her or that he was worried sick or that the firm paid for her phone. She was going to be pissed off no matter what. "Yes, I tracked your phone," he sighed and waited for her to yell at him.

"Then I guess you'll know when I'll be there," Liv shouted and hung up on him.

"Doesn't your job pay for your phone?" Verna asked her.

"Yes."

"Don't you think he would have reason to track your phone then?"

"I've never been late for work, and I've never given him cause to track me. He could have just asked instead of using a damn gps to find me."

"Have you told Fitz why you can't sleep? He does know that it's his father that comes over, right?"

"He knows Jerry comes to my house to stay with me. But he doesn't know why I can't sleep or the only way I can sleep. Fitz doesn't need to know about any of it. I'm trying to stay professional with him."

"How's that working out?"

"Not well."

Leaving Verna's office, Olivia took the half hour drive to work to allow herself to think. Of course, Fitz was going to find her. Last night she was in trouble, and he would have done anything he could think of to get to her. Because he's sweet, not because he likes you. It's only a crush and you'll need to get over it or move on to the next job. And being late to work without any notification to him was going to worry him.

Sitting down at her desk, Liv got right to work without saying a word to Fitz. Though she didn't need to, he saw through the glass that she arrived in and went to her taking the seat in front of her desk.

"On a scale of one to murder how pissed are you?"

"Manslaughter."

"That's pretty pissed. You weren't answering your phone. For all I knew, you could have been dead in a ditch somewhere. I was making sure you were alive."

"I could have been doing something else. Why does your mind automatically go to death?"

"Because you don't sleep. You haven't slept in nine days. Apparently, you have no intentions of ever sleeping again."

"I will sleep on my terms. Not on someone else's."

"And when is that going to be?"

"What do you care?"

"Excuse me?" Fitz nearly jumped at her words and sat forward in the chair. "What do I care? You call me to come get you from a damn park at eleven at night after you went on a date with another man, and you have the audacity to ask why I care? Then, you show up late for work with no communication that you are going to be late to anyone, and you can ask why I care? You are unbelievable!"

"I don't get you. What makes you so concerned about my sleeping issues? My work is great. You said so yourself." Getting up, Fitz was irritated with her. "I'm sorry, okay? I didn't mean to get an attitude. I was… I'm trying to figure things out, so I went to Maryland."

"Liv, if you need time off, take it. Take a day or two, a week if you need." Rounding the corner of her desk, Fitz bent down beside her. "You've done excellent work as you always do. And you make sure that I am very well taken care of. I just want to return the favor. So let me help you. Please?"

Before she could answer, Olivia's desk phone rang. Looking away from Fitz she answered it. "Mr. Grant's office…I'm sorry, that's not possible… no it really isn't possible…send me over the sheet…yes, I'll look into it."

Fitz waited for her to get off the phone so they could continue their conversation but the way she spoke to whoever was on the other side of the phone made him think it wasn't going to happen. Giving her some time, he went back to his office to work.

"Everything okay?" Fitz asked when she appeared in front of him ten minutes later.

"You're going to want to stay at your dad's place for a while."

"That's never going to happen."

"Then you'll have to find somewhere."

"Liv, what was that about?"

"All your credit cards have been declined."
