A/n: Hi guys! I was feeling pretty inspired to work on another chapter so here we go! I was wondering if you guys wanted a little more from James perspective included? I try to through in little bits of his thoughts and what's going on his side, but I wanted to know if you all like it the way it is or if you guys wanted more from his end! Thank you so much for reading!
Apparently things could go differently. While Lily did not accept any of James' advances, she did not completely ignore him and even let him join her and her friends for supper. The boy had gotten many teasings from his mates and the girl did not treat him as if he was completely revulsive. Many of their classmates had chattered about it the next day. Did they have nothing better to gossip about?
Diana wasn't sure how to feel about it. Sure, the girl knew that the boy had been harboring a crush on the redheaded muggleborn for years now, so she should probably congratulate and tease the boy. But that didn't feel right. Diana tried to avoid dealing with the jumbled mess of her feelings and focus on something else but the image of the two actually getting together left the blonde with a bitter taste in her mouth.
The rest of the weekend went mainly uneventful. Diana did go to one of the more public practices for Gryffindor after promising to go see them practice. James had been begging her to go for weeks but Diana usually turned him down each time saying, 'You do realize I'm cheering on Hufflepuff and not Gryffindor, right?'
'Yes, but you're going to be cheering ME on, right?' James had grinned so unabashedly, that Diana could only roll her eyes.
'Fine! But just this once, okay?' Diana had rolled her eyes again when the bespectacled boy just ruffled her hair with a small chuckle.
Diana had dragged Amy with her, who had no problems going, claiming she would happily ogle all the players with her. Diana had fought against the claim, but eventually could not deny they did look attractive in their gear. They sat in the stands and watched the boys practice, there had been one girl on the Gryffindor team last year but not to many of the females actually got to play. Diana had to force herself not to check if Lily Evans was also in the stands.
As someone who watched quidditch a lot, Diana had to admit they were good. James especially. Anyone who was watching could tell he was talented, not just that, but he also was hard working. He encouraged his teammates and led by example for anything he preached. If Diana didn't know any better, she would have thought he was the captain. Maybe next year.
'I'm not sure the boy could handle that much responsibility now.' Diana laughed when the boy twisted around to do a move but had almost dropped the quaffle. The boy simply laughed it off and joked with his teammates as they teased him.
"Wow. I don't think I've ever seen you so smitten before. Not even when you had that crush on Lucas back in second year." Amy had elbowed Diana finally catching her attention.
"Oh shove off. I'm not smitten. It's just surprising to see him as the real James Potter, instead of the prankster bad boy everyone see's." Diana scoffed at Amy.
"Don't lie to yourself. I know you better then anyone, well other than Nico, but he's just stupid." Amy tugged the blonde under her arm.
"Look, I don't like him like that. We are barely even friends," Diana tried to pull away from the tall brunette, but she was much stronger.
"I don't go to watch my not friends at their quidditch practices. I think you need to re-evaluate what you think are your feelings for James because even you admit, he's different than what anyone thinks." Only then does Amy let the blonde girl go.
"Gah! I hate when you mess with my brain like this!" Diana glared at her friend, before crossing her arms and pouting.
"Oh honey, just you wait!" Amy winked at the girl. "Oh! I forgot I brought snacks!"
Diana tried to ignore what Amy said but took some of her candy and started to think on what she said. So maybe she did consider James a friend. They did hang out, even if most of it was to work together on their project, but it wasn't just like that anymore. She enjoyed talking to him and considered him a pretty good guy. She probably spent as much time with him as she did with Amy and Nico.
But did she like him? That Diana still didn't know. Was that why she felt weird about the Lily thing? But that wasn't a for sure sign she liked him, she felt like that when Nico or Amy hung out with other people more then her. All of this just made her head hurt.
After the practice finally ended, the team started heading off for showers, but James had other plans. He had noticed Diana in the stands quickly after practice began. Seeing her there made the boy grin happily, that fluttering feeling that he associated with the blonde girl, now becoming more familiar. After the weird behavior from the blonde at the dining hall, James wasn't sure if the girl was still going to show up. Girls moods were hard to predict.
Making his way to the stands, James quickly found Diana and her friend, Amy? James was pretty sure that was her name. They were both wrestling over some kind of candy, Amy was winning but Diana wasn't giving up easily.
"Wow ladies and here I thought you'd have something a little more important to fight over. For instance a dashingly handsome quidditch player?" James used his hand to reference to himself.
"Oh do you mean Sirius? He was looking quite good on the pitch today," Amy giggled looking off towards where the said boy was walking back to the changing rooms.
"You are both gross." Diana tried to joke swiping the candy from Amy's hands, but was distracted when she actually looked at James. He was sweaty and dirty but he was grinning brightly at the girls. Well she did have to admit he was attractive. Just a little.
"So what did you think? We are brilliant aren't we?" James said sitting down and nudging Diana eagerly.
"I do have to admit, you all are decent. Sorry though James, but I'm still rooting for Hufflepuff," Diana winked playfully.
"Wait until we play, you'll be regretting your words."
"I don't know about that. You'll just have to prove me wrong, I guess." Diana enjoyed seeing the bespectacled boy light up at the challenge.
"Hey Potter, let's go! We still have to debrief." One of the other players called back with a wave.
"Well, duty calls. Have a goodnight ladies!" James winked at both girls before running off.
"You so have it bad."
"Shut it." Diana groaned.
After that, Diana did the only thing she knew how to do when it came to feelings. Avoid it. So maybe she did have a slight crush, an attraction, to the bespectacled boy, but that didn't mean he was going to return the gesture. Anyone in Hogwarts knew that James Potter was in love with Lily Evans. So Diana locked away the newly discovered feelings and promised to cut away her time with James.
Now Diana knew she couldn't avoid him when the worked on the project and he had already become her new desk mate in potions, but that didn't mean she had to spend extra time with him outside of class. At every opportunity the boy tried to approach her or spend time together outside of class, Diana attempted to find ways to keep away. After any of their classes together ended, the girl would book it for the door and try to blend herself in with the crowd.
Sometimes, someway the boy would be able to find her out of nowhere and the girl would have to flee in the other direction. It was very exhausting, mentally and physically, but the alternative seemed worse. Diana did not want to get her heart broken by James Potter.
