"What are you smiling about?" Elias asked me the next day when I was doing some paperwork for the club.
"Just thinking about stuff." I said and he chuckled as he nodded.
"What do you think of the new guys?" I asked him as he sat with me.
"I think Austin is doing great, and Dexter is great for security. I think people are more scared of him than some of the bigger guys." he said and I started laughing. Dexter used to intimidate me, but after sitting with him by the fire pit until the sun came up... he was actually a really interesting guy.
"Whatever gets the job done." I said and Elias started laughing.
"Hey, Jodi, sorry to interrupt but Dave is here." Braun said as he walked up to the door. I sighed as Elias stood up.
"I can tell him to go away." Elias said and I shook my head.
"No, I can run from him for forever." I said and he nodded. I finished what I was doing and walked out there to see Dave standing by the bar.
"How can I help you?" I asked him as if he was a potential employee or vendor because he wasn't anything special to me.
"Really? I need to talk to you." he said and I pursed my lips.
"Have a seat." I said and motioned to a chair.
"Here?" he asked me and I nodded as I walked behind the bar to get some water. I held up a bottle for him and he took it as he sat down.
"Talk." I said and he sighed as I took a sip of water.
"I made a mistake and I want to fix whatever happened." he said and I had to chuckle.
"You chose another woman over me... you can't fix that... it's a decision that was made." I said and he rubbed the back of his neck as he took a sip of water.
"Ok, yes, I did, but I was wrong." he admitted and I looked at him waiting for more.
"I was wrong, and I shouldn't have chosen someone else over you." he said and I nodded.
"You shouldn't have... let alone one of my bartenders." I snapped at him.
"I'm..." he was saying and I cut him off.
"No, I get to talk now. You let me for a bartender... and I could see if you left me because I wasn't caring, I didn't want sex anymore, I didn't like your family, or a whole list of reasons... but, we were engaged. You just wanted to fuck a bartender over me." I said in the plainest way that I possibly could.
"Jodi..." he was saying when I shook my head.
"Look, Dave, I don't care anymore. I really don't." I said and he slammed his fist down. I saw in that moment exactly how many people were at work already because Elias, Braun, Cash, Dax, and Roman came out of the woodwork when they heard hat.
"Leave." I said as they all walked up to the bar and Dave looked around.
"Fine, but we will talk when you don't have so much back up." he said and grabbed his thing before walking out of the place.
"You good?" Roman asked me and I nodded. Roman, Elias, Becky, and Johnny were the ones who knew how bad it got with Dave so I'm not surprised that he was the first one to speak up.
"Yeah, thanks guys." I said as Cash gave me a side hug.
"We got your back." Braun said and I nodded.
"Thanks, I will be in the office finishing stuff up." I said and Elias nodded.
I walked in there and sat back down. I couldn't believe that Dave wouldn't give up. I was taking a second when there was a soft knock at the door. I turned to see Cash standing in the doorway.
"I'm ok." I said and he gave a small smile.
"Yeah, I'm just making sure." he said and I nodded.
"Thanks, Cash." I said and he nodded before disappearing. I finished all my paperwork and was about to leave when Johnny appeared in the doorway.
"Hey, I heard Dave came by." he said and I smirked.
"Yeah, and showed his ass like usual." I said and he sighed.
"Jodi, you might take it seriously." he said and I pursed my lips. I honestly wanted Dave to just go away, but for some reason he wasn't going to go quietly.
"Can you get security cameras up at my house?" I finally asked me and I nodded. He had actually suggested them when I first broke it off with Dave, and I guess that he had been right. I didn't want to be scared, but I didn't want to be unprepared either. I talked to Johnny for a few minutes before I was getting ready to leave. I didn't need to be there tonight, and I kind of wanted to go to the beach.
"Oh, Jodi, Dexter said he had fun last night." he said and I felt my cheeks flush red and he chuckled.
"I think it's good." he said as I grabbed my bag.
"Thanks, Johnny." I said and he nodded.
I walked out to see the bar being set up, the tech working through the music, and everyone milling about.
"Hey, Elias doesn't need me tonight. You up for hanging out?" Cash asked me and I shrugged.
"I wanted to go to the beach." I said and he nodded.
"Sure, let's go." he said. I said bye to everyone, changed into my swimsuit while Cash waited, and we got into his truck. He insisted on driving, and I didn't mind.
We drove to a smaller beach up A1A out of St Augustine, parked, walked over the bridge, and down to the water. I was glad to see there weren't many people as we sat our stuff down. I threw my blanket on the sand and stretched.
"Thanks for coming with me." I said and he nodded.
"Yeah, I wasn't doing anything else." he said with a smile. I started to put on sunscreen and he chuckled as I began to struggle with my shoulders.
"Here." he said as he grabbed the sunscreen and started to rub it over my shoulders and back. I wasn't sure why but it felt so good when he was rubbing my back. I peaked over at him and he was carefully tracing one of my tattoos on my back. He looked up and blushed when he realized he had been caught.
"Sorry, I have always liked that tattoo." he sheepishly admitted.
"I forget I have it because I never see it." I admitted and he chuckled.
"You want to get in the water?" he asked me and I nodded as we walked down to the water. We were looking for shells and wading around.
"Jodi." he said and I looked over at him to see him pointing out into the ocean. I looked and you could see Dolphins far out in the ocean. We both stopped to watch them, and as we stood there I felt him take my hand. I was thrown off at first, but decided that overthinking anything like this right now wasn't worth it. He was probably doing it to be nice... it was Cash after all. We were just friends. He pulled me with him back to our stuff as we laid out under the umbrella. I liked that I was comfortable with Cash, even if I did have one of the biggest crushes on him.
"You hungry?" he asked me a bit later, and I nodded.
"Let's get food." he said as I looked at my phone. I had a few messages from Becky and Elias, but nothing serious. I also realized that we had been out here for 3 got back to the truck, and headed back to St Augustine. I was thankful for a restful day with limited drama... I needed those days more than I realized.
