Sir,
We checked the soil samples from PZM-112, and it seems clear there is Trinium on the planet, although it's probably quite far from the gate. Dr. Alvers thinks it's in the mountains we can see from the UAV scout footage and made it into the soil from water runoff.
My recommendation is for a small team to visit the planet with necessary supplies and make the trek up to the mountains for visual confirmation.
Please advise.

Carter,
Chill. How long of a hike are we talking? One team or two? How much in the way of "necessary supplies?" Do we need a MALP to come along; will the hike be conducive to a MALP coming along?
I can't advise without, you know, information.
So please advise.

Sir,
The hike is probably at least 25 klicks from the Gate through what mostly looks like flat to moderately hilly terrain. A MALP should be able to travel that, but it would make sense to only pack what can easily be carried or left without harm in the event of an equipment failure.
One team of four should suffice, maybe even two if we can find the right people- we need someone from science and someone with survival training to be safe.

Carter,
"In the event of an equipment failure" about MALPs doesn't begin to cover the likelihood that it will, and you know it.
A science officer and survivalist- is this something we can do? I know Teal'c is heading offworld soon for his son's birthday, and D always has stuff to do. Wanna go on a hike?

Sir,
Point taken about the MALP. The excursion could be made without a MALP if the team is prepared for that kind of hardship. The scientific equipment needed is fairly minimal and can be limited to basics to make sure two people can carry survival gear necessary for the trip. We also know already that the planet has fresh water and no shortage of food sources if necessary.
To answer your question, yes, we could do this.

I'll run it up the flagpole. Can you send me an official mission request?

Sir,
Please see attached an official mission request and several documents detailing the information we have already and the information we want to gather. I've also included photos from the UAV.
