A/N: I only own the OC
Thank you for reviewing! You all are awesome!
Dexter came in the kitchen and I smiled at him. I was cooking dinner for us tonight since his mom was coming to for dinner. We were planning on telling her.
"What did you decide?" He asked me.
"Chicken Alfredo." I said and he smiled.
"I love it when you make that." He said and I smiled. I knew it was one of his favorites.
"Go shower and then pick some wine." I said. He kissed me again and headed upstairs. He was showering and when someone knocked on the door. I wasn't sure who it was supposed to be since his mom wasn't supposed to be here. I opened the door and came face to face with his ex wife.
"Hi, can I help you?" I asked her.
"I need to see him." She said and I nodded.
"He will be down in a minute." I said.
"I'll just go up." She said and I put a hand out to stop her.
"Um, no." I said and she narrowed her eyes at me.
"Move." She said and I shook my head.
"You can wait out here." I said and she slapped me across the face. I was in no mood to today. I punched her right in the nose. She fell over and screamed. I usually didn't hit people, and could control my temper... but I made an exception for her.
I heard Dexter come running down the stairs and stopped behind me when he saw what was going on. I knew that he probably wasn't happy at what he walked up on.
"Jodi?" He asked me and I turned to look at him. I didn't have to tell him what happened because his eyes widened.
Dexter POV
I ran downstairs when I heard a scream. I thought Jodi got hurt. I walked up to see Christi on the floor and Jodi with a large red mark across her cheek.
"She broke my nose." Christi whined as she sat up.
"Looks like self defense. Is there a reason you need to be here?" I asked her. I was trying not to smirk because Jodi had done a number on her face. Jodi walked back into the house as I stood in the doorway.
"I needed to tell you that I am selling my half of the business." She said.
"I'll buy it. I need the lawyers to draw up the papers." I said and she nodded. We had started a restaurant together when we were married. We both owned half in the divorce and now she wanted to sell. I was fine with that because it was the last tie I had to her.
She started to say something, but I cut her off telling her we had to be somewhere. I'll look for the email from the lawyers. I shut the door before she could say anything else and walked into the kitchen. Jodi was holding a bag of frozen corn to her face.
"Let me see." I said and she moved it. The mark was definitely there. I knew that she was upset about it because we were having dinner with Mom tonight.
"It will be ok. Nice hit." I said and she chuckled.
"I couldn't believe that I hit her." She said and I kissed her.
"She deserved it." I said and she smirked.
I helped her finish up the stuff and Mom was right on time. I knew that Jodi was upset about the mark on her cheek.
"You look fine." I said and she chuckled.
"Plus if Mom asked she will love you more for what happened." I said and she rolled her eyes.
He opened the door and hugged his mom. She saw me and instantly hugged me.
"I didn't think I would see this again." she said and I smirked.
"Dear, who did you get in a fight with?" she asked me and I shot Dexter a look.
"Well, Christi came by, and didn't like that Jodi was here... so she slapped her. Jodi broke her nose." I told Mom and she hugged Jodi again.
"Good job." she said as she and Jodi walked into the living room to sit down. I smiled at the scene before me because I knew that Mom would be happy when we told her the news.
We sat down for dinner. Jodi was an amazing cook. She kept amazing me more and more every day. I couldn't believe that she was mine.
"This is delicious, but nothing is better than you two being back together." she said and I smiled at Jodi. I took her hand and looked at Mom.
"We aren't just back together. We are engaged." I told Mom and her eyes got huge.
"Wow, but are you sure?" she asked me and I saw Jodi's eyes water up. I took a deep breath before saying anything because that was not the response I expected from Mom. I was so sure she would be happy.
"Mom! All you did was complain that I wasn't with Jodi, and now that I am all you can ask me is are you sure?" I asked her.
"I just want you two to make the right decision. You have had a rocky past." she said and Jodi stood up.
"It was good to see you again, Ms. Shaw." she said and walked upstairs. I looked at Mom and sighed.
"Dexter, you and her are amazing when you are on the same page, but I have seen how bad it can go when you aren't. I just want you both to make sure that you are on that page. She is great for you, but are you great together?" she said. I stood up and kissed her cheek.
"Thank you for coming tonight, Mom." I said and she sighed. She knew that meant she needed to leave. She stood up, grabbed her things, and left without another word. I locked the door behind her, and walked upstairs. I didn't have to wonder were Jodi was because I could hear her sobbing. The sound broke my heart. I thought that my mother would be the one who would support us no matter what, but instead she was the one who questioned it. I hated that she upset Jodi.
I walked in there and pulled her to me. We were spooning on the bed together as I held her close. I wasn't dumb enough to think that anything I said right now would fix the fact that my mother just said she wasn't good enough. I held her as she calmed down, and eventually fell asleep.
I slipped out of the bed, and went downstairs to clean up. I had left everything to check on Jodi. I was almost done when my phone lit up. I glance at it to see a text from Dad. He wanted me in a meeting tomorrow at 10am at the winery. I agreed to go and went back upstairs. I slipped back into the bed beside Jodi, and fell asleep with her in my arms. The only place she needed to be.
