I was sitting on the beach as the waves came and went. The waves were bigger than normal because you could see the storms building. It was a typical afternoon in Florida. I had just come from therapy, and while it was helping... it still sucked to keep talking about it. It had been a month since it happened, and a few weeks since Cash committed suicide. He was a fucking coward, but at least he couldn't hurt anyone else. Dax left work and went back to North Carolina after it happened... he knew what Cash had done and didn't want to be associated with it anymore. I didn't blame him.
I heard the thunder get closer and knew I didn't want to get rained on. I walked to my car and headed back to my house. I had been back at my house for about two weeks. My friends had cleaned it up, and removed certain things. I was thankful for them.
I walked up and saw Dexter sitting on the porch. He was always around, but not over bearing. I loved him for that. I was still wearing my engagement ring, and we had actually been talking about the wedding a little more. I was told it was important to go forward with plans that were made before the incident.
"Hi Princess." He said and kissed my forehead.
"Hi." I said and smiled at him. We still weren't intimate and I still wasn't very touchy. He seemed to understand.
He opened the door and we walked inside as everyone yelled "Surprise". I was shocked, but found myself smiling.
"We know you had a party planned and wanted you to still have it." Becky said as she and Candice both hugged me.
"Thank you, guys... the party was actually to tell everyone some pretty big news." I said and they all waited.
"Dexter and I are engaged." I said as Dexter kissed my cheek and everyone cheered.
I was happy to see everyone from the club, Dave, and Dexter's dad here. They had food, drinks, and I realized I was glad to be surrounded by my friends. We all moved on from what happened, and it was great to know that we all had each other... I guess this was my family.
Dexter POV
Jodi looked happy at the party. She seemed to be having fun. She had been in therapy for a bit now, and we were working through it. She had gotten a wedding planner book, and had Becky and Candice helping her. I was just happy that she was doing better.
"You got a good one." A voice said and I turned to see my Dad standing beside me and I gave a small smile.
"Finally." He added and I smirked.
"Thanks for coming, Dad." I said and he nodded.
"Dinner in two nights. Both of you." He said and I nodded. I saw him go over to Jodi and hug her. She wasn't very touchy anymore, but she did well as he hugged her. He told her something and she nodded before he headed out.
The party continued on late, and everyone finally left around 1am. Johnny and Candice were the last two to leave as Candice instead on helping clean up. They left and Jodi leaned against the door.
"You did great." I whispered to her and she gave a small smile. She looked up at me as I walked to her. I let her be in control as she wrapped her arms around my neck. I thought she wanted a hug, but I was surprised when she pressed her lips softly to mine. I had to stop myself from grabbing her because I didn't want to scare her. I carefully put my hand on her hips, and let her be in control.
She pulled away and looked at me.
"Thank you." She said and I gave a small smile.
"Anything for you, Princess." I said and she carefully pressed her lips to mine. I gently pressed against her and she tightened her arms around my neck. She pulled away and rested her head against my chest.
"I love you." She whispered and I kissed the top of her head.
"I love you too." I whispered back.
"Can we go somewhere?" She asked me and I pulled away to look at her.
"Where do you want to go?" I asked her and she shrugged.
"It's probably a stupid idea... I just thought it would be fun to go on a vacation like we did before." She said and I nodded.
"It's not stupid... think about if you want to go somewhere and I'll take you." I said and she nodded.
"Right now, I think I want to go to sleep." She said and I gave a small smile.
"Do you want me to stay?" I asked her. She had started to stay by herself a few nights ago. She called me at 3am most mornings and would talk before falling back asleep.
"Please." She said and I nodded.
I walked upstairs and changed. She crawled into bed and I started to lay down on the couch in her room.
"You can sleep up here." She said and I nodded. I slipped into the bed as she laid down and faced me. She carefully took my hand and laced our fingers together. I watched as she slowly fell asleep. I was never happier that things seemed to be going back to normal.
