Wind Belongs to One Champion Alone

Rito Village is under siege. Different flying beasts ranging from elemental Keese to Aerocudas carrying Bokoblins and flying guardians providing long range support. Their numbers were impressive and would push Rito's forces to their limits. At least that is what was supposed to happen. Armor, weaponry, guardian scraps and some rectangular driftwood floated in the chilly waters beneath the village. Revali placed his bow on his back, looking over the result of his lone efforts.

"If this is all the Calamity has to offer then I'm disappointed."

"It's more disappointing to hear Rito's Champion saying something so ignorant." Revali turned to see an elderly Rito Chieftain alongside two personal guards walking toward him.

"Shouldn't you be worrying about something else right now?" Revali spoke dismissively to his senior. She responded in kind by going upside his head with her walking stick.

"Show some respect! How many times do I have to hit you before you understand that? You're no higher than any other Rito in this village!" Those words went into one ear and out the other.

"I was trying to show genuine care for once. Seems your age makes you forget what manners sound like." A second snide remark earned a second strike, both got more irritated than before and began to bicker. A sudden gust of wind blew away the childish tension, shifting their attention. Overhead appeared a gigantic sphere colored a light gray and muted blue, its surface shifted and spun slowly. Frigid air engulfed the entire mountain side, light snowfall accompanied it. Another few seconds passed before the sphere's origin became clear. A dragon emerged, letting out a roar that echoed across the mountain tops. Its body is segmented into three circular opaque crystal-like structures. Everyone below stood in fear pondering how something of that size could possibly be defeated. The Elder looked to Revali who observed the creature out of curiosity. She tapped his wing then gestured to the monster.

"Could you wait a second?"

"What's there to wait for? Go and fight that thing!" Revali rolled his eyes at her. He nocked an arrow and took aim. It pierces the air as if wind resistance did not exist, maintaining its high speed and bypassing multiple strong air currents surrounding the dragon.

"What are you-" Revali held up his wing.

"Watch." The arrow changes its trajectory, spiraling upwards to hit the crystal in the middle of the dragon's body. It shatters easily, causing a pained shriek from the beast's mouth and a chuckle from Revali's.

"Ganon is underestimating me… This is what he sends to kill me? I won't let this disrespect go unchallenged." Revali's slight grin turned to a disgusted look. He flexed and pushed winds from his wings. He took flight without a second to spare, his gale stronger than ever before. He soared above his target only to be met by several spikes of ice shot from the dragon's back at an alarming speed. Alarming to anyone else except Revali. Every spike is destroyed by one of three arrows fired, giving a clear shot of the crystal underneath them. A smirk overcame Revali's beak, he let loose two bomb arrows above him before diving through the crystal with his body weight alone. His arrows followed him beneath the dragon, gently falling back onto his bowstring to take flight once more. Revali flew up in between the dragon's mandibles and stood before a pair of eyes, chuckling.

"I assume you're going back to Ganon once you disappear. If that's what happens to you, tell him to send a better monster." Repugnance radiated off Revali, he slowly flapped his wings and took flight. He landed in a wooden hut where he properly composed himself.

"That was amazing! You flew like, swoosh and boom!" A little girl came from behind her parents to Revali's side, a sparkle in her eyes.

"No, it was like boom, swish, swoosh!" Her brother argued innocently. Nothing warmed Revali's heart more than his village's youth. He waved a wing to grab their attention.

"Train enough and you won't make those noises with your beaks. You'll make them with your wings."

"Ah! Will we be as good as you?" The brother asked.

"Train harder than me and you will." Gentle giggles filled the calm space, a calm cold space. Revali looked over a nearby edge. Malice began to drift upwards as it normally did after a monster's death, yet something threw him off. His blood ran cold. An inexplicable sense of dread drowned his entire body, constricting his movements and thoughts. Behind him was Vah Medoh's perch, the family, and a small wooden platform. He brought forth enough courage to turn around to see it. A man. No, a skeleton of one. Red flesh coated it, but a grayish tint overshadowed the oppressive color. A short, torn green cloth covered everything beneath a barely contained ribcage going down just before a pair of bony knees. Familiarity filled Revali's mind, a flash of a man appeared before him. His hair flowed crimson red; horns protruded from his forehead. His large muscles and determined aura seemed to exaggerate the demon's appearance, at least a demon is all Revali could see such a being as. A ticking noise entered the false memory, bringing Revali back to reality. The skeleton had a mechanical three-barrel cannon reminiscent of a guardian's laser blaster. Two circles of different shades of blue began spinning in the center barrel aimed at the Rito. Time would not stop for Revali, so he would not stop. He quickly fires off an arrow, instantly encasing the weapon in ice.

"Get out of here!" The couple grabbed their children while Revali fired another ice arrow through his opponent's head. He flew upwards, checked if anyone was near and fired off a bomb arrow. Several Rito panicked after hearing the explosion. Wind Blight took full advantage of the chaos, coming from the smoke to grab Revali's leg who was stunned by its speed. Its mouth let out a heavy gust of wind but was canceled out by Revali's gale, still he sustained some damage from the initial attack. Their clash shook Revali free for him to properly square off. His quiver had five separate compartments for five different types of arrows. Five bombs, six lightning, six fire, six ice and twenty normal. He had to carry a small amount of his elemental and bomb arrows because of potential reactions in his quiver. On top of this, once his elemental arrows lost their effect, he would be able to use them as he would normal ones. Three of his feathers were attached to the butt of each. His gale had been channeled into each feather, making it so he could direct his arrows three times at a speed comparable to his own when all three feathers were used at once. Revali could not shake off the vision he saw earlier, furthermore, something within the blight resonated with him. Nevertheless, he had to defend his home and his people. He is Rito village's one and only champion.

What transpired next could barely be seen by those who witnessed it. Fire, lightning, and ice coated arrows expanded their presences across the sky. Wind stopped and started their acceleration, each one bounced around on separate gales once returned to their normal states. Wind Blight produced strong gusts from its two small cannons. However, they could not counter any arrows that used three gales simultaneously. This had its own downside: using their boosts, Revali lost control of them in exchange. Still, they were able to hit thanks to his precision and placement. Their minimal damage built up overtime at the cost of Revali exhausting his elemental weapons. His efforts were not in vain, Wind Blight suffered severe cuts to its power, toning down its powerful gusts of wind. Every attack that landed capped Wind Blight's power even further, its big cannon remained a threat because one well-placed blast would take Revali out of the fight completely. His superior mobility put him out of the reticle's range, allowing him to line up his shots easier. Except he could not fire recklessly for he was down to his last twenty arrows. These were far more powerful than his elemental ones because of their diamond coated arrow heads. Wind Blight could not hit him, and he could not waste ammunition on non-fatal attacks. Revali had been moving the battle over to the Flight Range where he set his plan in motion. He flew into the small canyon, tying a flexible steel wire around ten arrows butts. Once Wind Blight aligned with the practice targets Revali quickly pinned it and rose high into the air. His last bomb arrows descended upon Wind Blight, kicking up a smoke cloud. It obscured Revali's view, he knew his enemy was not finished.

In an instant Revali dodged out of the way of some black mass that came out of the smoke. He took off after it and saw it was Wind Blight. It had more than doubled in speed, but its body halved. All that was left of it was its upper body and its cannon arm that pointed toward the sky. In its chest a jewel reacted and changed color, Revali took notice before realizing where he was. Below him sat his home, a home that had come under siege from more monsters and guardians. Soon rumbling clouds formed due to Wind Blight's ability. Several colossal icicles appeared inside the clouds. At the descent of Wind Blight's arm, a volley of icicles came down. Revali responded instantly, firing five arrows. Each had three feathers, effectively he had fired fifteen. One boost is all that is needed to shatter an icicle. Revali shattered them in a way that would prevent too much large debris from landing in his village. He wasted three more arrows to clear his path to Wind Blight. Revali dodged one last icicle but his last arrow in flight would destroy it. His perfect shot finally revealed itself.

However, the monster made an unexpected move. It boosted forward using its cannon, regrew its left arm and palmed Revali's face. Wind Blight smashed Revali's head through the flat side of the giant icicle before the final arrow could destroy it, leaving it in freefall. Despite his injury, Revali tried to escape Wind Blight's grip. Suddenly, something tore off its arm. Freed from his bind, Revali tried to stop his fast descent to avail. He managed to curl up before smashing into Vah Medoh's perch. His bow fell below it, but his last two arrows remained. He snapped his head upwards, trying to focus the world spinning around him. There was zero sense of balance in him, still he kept up on his knees, long enough for Wind Blight to come down. As if to mock him, it slowly charged its cannon. Out of his eye an arrowhead bounced moonlight. Wind blew it closer.

"Hm… you really must be a husk… because you lack awareness!" The backside of Vah Medoh's perch smashed to pieces thanks to a falling arrow imbued with its owner's blessing. Chunks of rock flew up alongside two pieces key to Revali's final gambit. Two strong bursts of wind shot through the jewel in Wind Blight's chest, shattering it completely. It recoiled and skewed its aim, barely missing Revali. A screech even a Lynel would fear came from Wind Blight before it disappeared into nothing. A slight fear came over Revali as he saw the monster not disintegrating as fast as he thought it would. Until moonlight came through the clouds, revealing Wind Blight's body returning to nothing. Warm air coursed through his feathers. A warm feeling of nostalgia swept over him. Wind guided his wings to a gentle sky, his arrows through still air and his feet down to sturdy earth. Calm, warm wind. His last reward. Five red reticles decorated Revali's body.

"Bit off more than I could chew." Death is imminent yet Revali felt eerily relieved. His fatigue began to set in. Darkness overcame his vision. A pair of feet grabbed his collar, and the guardians were destroyed. After a few minutes Revali laid on Vah Medoh's back, the Elder and one of her personal guards stood by him. Her guard checked Revali's injuries, they were serious but not immediately life threatening. He took a fairy tonic from his hip and poured it into Revali's mouth. Bruises and cuts vanished from Rito's body. He woke up coughing from the tonic's horrid taste. Before he could get his bearings a Great Eagle's bow and quiver full of normal arrows landed in front of him.

"Do you remember what to do next?" The Elder asked.

"... I didn't hit my head that hard." Revali picked up the weapons and fastened them to his body. He looked at his allies with determined eyes.

"Thank you for your help. Be careful on your way down." His allies nodded before diving off a nearby edge. Revali hurried to Vah Medoh's control panel, upon activation a small model of it appeared and a screen showing what it pointed towards. He adjusted its position till Hyrule castle was in his sights. Not a moment later all Divine Beasts pointed at Hyrule castle. His wounds may be healed but fatigue from battle still took its toll. Having dealt with a beast about a quarter Ganon's current strength, he felt pity.

"Don't let my efforts go to waste. You two had better destroy Ganon."
