Nobody knows how angels are born, but we know they exist. There once was an angel who remembered not how she came to be, but was born from the palm of the Lord Almighty Himself. Her body was bare as a newborn child, bathed in luminous light. Despite her nudity, the angel girl felt neither warm nor cold. Her wings were small and white. Her face was fair, full of grace and beauty. A soft, fluffy cloud served as her cradle. Several of God's favorite angels gathered around her until she awoke. At first, the angel girl saw only darkness. Then she saw a tiny spark of yellow light, which grew bigger and stronger as her vision enhanced and became more clear.
One of the angels moved closer to get a better look at the new angel girl and smiled warmly at her, but he was no ordinary angel. He was an Archangel, the highest ranking position an angel could be given, for they were the voice and messengers of God. He was adorned in a linen robe of the purest white. A glowing ring called a halo hovered above his head. His eyes were blue, full of light and love. His face was as pale as ivory, and his hair was dark and sort of slicked back. There were several others around the angel girl that looked similar to him. Some with longer or brighter hair than his. One of them had dark, glittering eyes and slightly lighter hair than the dark-haired angel, but he still looked just as beautiful as any of God's Children.
The Archangel helped the newborn angel girl to sit up, her eyes keeping on his face. Sensing that something was not right, she cast her gaze down and noticed her naked body, using her long, light brown hair to cover herself.
The Archangel took hold of her hand and placed it upon his cheek, kissing her palm. His blue-eyed gaze locked with her golden brown one. The gentle smile never once left his lips.
"You need not shy away, for you are among others like you", he said. "There's no need for you to be afraid, for here, you will find peace and know all there is to know. You are an angel of God. And I am the Archangel Gabriel."
When the Lord came forward, the angels parted and allowed him to approach the newest member of the family. Gabriel helped the angel girl to stand up and stood aside as God presented her with her own halo. Two little cherubs flew over and dressed the angel girl in a gown of linen and lace. She was now as perfect an angel as any of them. God offered the angel girl His hand and lifted her up into the air to test her wings.
A small smile appeared on the face of the light-haired angel, a soft chuckle coming out from the corner of his mouth. The Archangel Gabriel looked in the direction of said angel, sharing the same smile as him.
The angel girl flew back down and stared up at God, bowing her head to Him in respect. God then turned to the angels to announce a name for the angel girl, and asked for His followers to call her by the name of Mica.
True to the nature of her name, which means 'beloved friend' in Latin, Mica was loved by all the angels in Heaven, especially by Gabriel. He was always by her side and kept watch over her whenever he wasn't busy doing God's work. Each day, they would take flight together and soar above the blue sky, golden sunlight glistening off their wings as they raced through the endless meadow of clouds. When nightfall came, Gabriel would teach her the names of all the stars in Heaven and tell her the exact number of them. Although none of the angels were related by blood, as angels didn't have any blood in their bodies, Mica felt like more to Gabriel than just a family member, but since angels were not allowed to marry, nor was there any marriage in Heaven, the Archangel thought it wise to stay his tongue and decided it was best to remain as her friend.
One day, before the creation of men, Lucifer, the most beautiful of God's angels, tried to take over the Kingdom of Heaven. He had grown jealous of his Father's love for humans and refused to serve Him anymore. With a little help from Gabriel and another angel named Simon, the Archangel Michael cast Lucifer out of Heaven and threw him down below the surface of the Earth, somewhere deeper than the deepest ocean. A place where darkness and evil would dwindle forever, and lakes of fire and lava spewed burning rocks. A place where no living soul would ever want to enter upon finding their way into the afterlife. Mica dreaded to imagine the sanctuary the fallen angel had created for himself, a place where no flowers grew and no light prevailed. The Depths of Damnation, the angels called it, otherwise known as Hell.
Years went by, and very soon, humanity was spun from the spindle made by God's hand. Earth was ever changing with each new season, but in Heaven, it was a palace of eternal Spring, even during the coldest Winter.
One day, Mica was sitting on the highest cloud, gazing down at the planet below while Gabriel groomed her wings. There was so much life to behold down there on Earth, and so much to explore and discover. Such wonders waited to be found, yet Mica dared not leave Heaven. God did not forbid her from leaving to go and visit Earth, but she knew nothing of the world below her well enough to descend down on it. Gabriel had been to Earth before, mostly to carry a message from God to a human and deliver the Word, and often told her stories about things and places he had seen, and about the creatures and animals and other things that God had created.
"I wish I could visit Earth one day", said Mica.
"Why would you want to leave your home?" Asked Gabriel. "Aren't you happy up here with me?"
"I am, Gabriel", answered Mica, "but I often wonder what's it's like for the people down there on Earth. Do they know we're watching them? Can the humans see us?"
"Only if we want them to see us", said Gabriel. "You shouldn't worry your pretty head over those people, Mica. After all, they're only talking monkeys without fur and tails."
Mica laughed heartily, making Gabriel smile and laugh with her. Sometimes he said things that were not befitting for an angel, but Mica still loved him with all her heart.
More time passed and Mica continued to grow in eternal grace and beauty each day, keeping watchful eyes on the children of Earth. Gabriel didn't share her passion for humans as much, but he taught her certain ways that humans lived and the many things he had seen and witnessed as time went by. Being one of God's Archangel often kept him away from her, but Mica cherished their time together each time he was around. While Gabriel was away tending to the affairs that needed tending to, Mica would serenade the other angels with a song, plucking the golden strings from her magic harp while they soared and danced among the clouds. Each time Gabriel returned to Heaven, Mica welcomed him home with the loving embrace of her arms. There was nothing she knew other than love, a force God taught her was the most powerful thing in Heaven or on Earth. Nothing could ever destroy it.
As years rolled by, the people of Earth began to prosper and more life began to flourish. Men became more intelligent and started to build new things. Civilizations formed and small towns turned into cities. Gabriel began to grow concern over some of the things the humans, or "talking monkeys" as he started to call them, had done to the world. He tried talking to God and ask Him to do something about it, but the Archangel felt as though his voice fell deaf on the ears of the Lord. Mica tried to offer him counsel, but Gabriel turned his back on her and ignored her comforting advice. She started to notice the warmth and light that once illuminated his bright blue eyes began to diminish and grow cold. Mica wasn't around Gabriel that much anymore and dedicated her time to tending to angel children, innocent spirits that ascended up into Heaven by the means of disease, famine or murder.
Mica was sad whenever a child died, but she loved each and every one of them that came to live with God and His angels, whether they were newborn or seven years or the age of adolescence. She believed in love, and all the good things in both Heaven and Earth. Just like God, she loved and watched over all living things on Earth, especially the little ones. Those who died very young were often greeted by her shining presence, and in the warmth and safety of her arms, the young, innocent souls were carried up into God's Kingdom, a place where they would never know fear or pain or hunger or suffering ever again. Mica became a merciful spirit, unlike the vengeful Archangel Gabriel.
Gabriel used to be one of God's most benevolent angels, until one day, the Archangel could no longer bear being ignored. His heart had hardened over the fact God that had been paying more attention to the humans than to His own angels. It was a sad day in the Kingdom of Heaven when Gabriel bid farewell to his beloved Mica and left for Earth in pursuit of an evil quest. Because of his rebellion, the Angel of Death had started a war between his fellow brothers, and Mica's heart became filled with sadness that Gabriel had turned his back on God and gone in search of a demonic soul to use as a pawn in his own selfish game. There had already been one war in Heaven, and there was soon to be another if his hurtful cause continued. Many angels would perish on the field of battle, but Mica would neither participate in the war nor stand aside while her friend set out to destroy the beautiful world God had created. Though she wasn't as strong or powerful as other angels, Mica knew one way or another she would have to bring Gabriel back home.
