Chapter 1: Breaching the Multiverse

Disclaimer: I do not own most of the characters in this story, and in fact, some of the "inventions" that are mentioned here are also from various Minecraft mods. These items belong to their respective owners - Thaumcraft, Mana and Artifice, Betweenlands, etc. I do not own the original idea of Minecraft, the mods that many of these items are based on, nor Familiar of Zero. The only thing I do own is the path and ideas this story takes and my character Tlopfest.

The multiverse. A strange and wonderful term that describes a cluster of worlds, each with their own galaxies, planets, and rules. Most people only know about their own universe, or worse, only the planet that their feet rest upon. Each version of humans, cat-people, or whatever is the dominant species happily live their lives among themselves. Yet in one corner of the multiverse, there lies a world that has a rather...special individual. The name of this universe? The one where creativity lives and breathes out of every single piece – Minecraftia.

As for that individual, well, he's not even part of the dominant race of the universe, much less the planet he stands on. His name is Tlopfest, a zombie pigman from the depths of the Nether. Due to a rather exceedingly rare set of events, Tlopfest has gained the intelligence of some of the smartest people around in his universe, eventually becoming known to be a great inventor. Even so, he does have his moments, mainly with his friends. Whether that be just spooking them by accident or having a mock-war between magic and technology, Tlopfest has had plenty of fun and adventure in his time there. But as is the rule for just about everything, things eventually come to an end. His friends, leading their own lives, still tag along with Tlopfest for some of his shenanigans sometimes, but those are rare these days. Because of this unfortunately, another aspect of Tlopfest's personality got a major grip on him – his undying love for adventure. No matter when or where, Tlopfest always loved to find new places to explore, conquer, and loot. Not other people mind you – just dungeons that he was able to come across during his travels.

But this also leads to the main problem he has been facing – he is running out of new places to explore. A fact of life that he has come to terms to, but still does not quell his thirst for adventure. So, in hopes of finding something new to do, Tlopfest decided to begin his research on one of his most ambitious projects to date – a portal to a whole new universe, or at the very least, some other undiscovered dimension he could look at.

Our story truly begins in one of the many mountain ranges that dot the landscape of the Overworld. Here, a building made out of quartz and iron is settled within one of the valleys between peaks. On the front are the words "Festivian Inc." This was Tlopfest's laboratory, where he shuts himself in as of late to work on his inventions. This is also actually his base of operations, containing a storage area, many different lab stations, a farm or two, and many sections branching off to testing areas. In the farm area, not only are there the typical foods that can be grown; wheat, potatoes, carrots, beetroot, there were also some strange plants that had plenty of unique tops to them. These were mystical plants, or plants that were infused with a few materials and some magic to generate more of those same materials. Diamonds, copper, coal; you name it, Tlop probably had it. Looking around a few miniature golems were running, or in some cases wheeling around on a single tire or flying through the air, gathering the crops and depositing them into different chutes around the farm.

Further along within the complex, the armory contained not only most of Tlopfest's equipment, but many artifacts and trinkets he had either collected or crafted during his time here. A set of armor as black as can be in the form of a magician's robes; gauntlets with a hole to put something in on top; a long staff with green crystals floating around one end and a green flame on top; a few books with spells within them; another set of armor that appears to be similar to that of a lost adventurer; and a giant railgun-esque device with a few jars set nearby containing what appear to be actual rifts in space. A few other pieces of tech were scattered throughout the armory as well, namely extra tools or ranged weaponry to deal with tougher enemies.

Arriving at one of the testing sites, the pigman himself is seen adjusting dials and checking the various screens for information. In the chamber in front of him is a small pedestal with two large laser-looking devices pointed at one another on top. Some tubing is connected to these devices, connecting them to jars of vile, purple liquid. There are a couple of actual lasers as well pointing to the same spot between the devices, only this time attached with high voltage wiring to get as much power as quickly as possible to them.

"Alright, vitium essentia is all topped up, generators are ready to go, and power cells are charged up, '' Tlopfest mumbled to himself. Tlop himself was the average height of a minecraftian – just under two meters. Being a zombie pigman, parts of his skin have rotted away during his time in the nether, leaving him with a hole in his right arm and some fingers on both hands being somewhat skeletal in appearance. His right eye was also rotted away, but instead of just a blank eyehole, he had a yellow flame within it, nearing the orange side of the spectrum of colors though. His eye is somewhat special, given that it actually changes colors depending on his mood. Yellow meant that he was neutral, orange was excited, red was angry, blue was sad, violet was embarrassed, and green was sick or queasy. It normally stayed yellow-orange, seeing as Tlopfest was rather kind and somewhat happy most of the time. Although the times it dipped to the red...let's just say that you did not want to be the target of his wrath. As for clothing, he is wearing a blue T-shirt, tan pants, and some long brown leather boots that reach up to his knees. On top of his shirt was a brown leather jacket, tailored to look steampunk-ish. He also wore some brown fingerless gloves on his hands, as well as also having a tan beret on top of his head, with steampunk goggles covering the top of his forehead. On his belt however Tlopfest had his trusty frying pan (yes, you read that right – a frying pan is Tlopfest's main weapon of choice) and pickaxe, both of which were unbreakable and rather powerful compared to the typical mobs in the world. Even out of combat, Tlopfest never takes them off of his person. You never know when you need to smack something around or break a few blocks.

"All that's left to do is to start charging everything and hope for the best. Sure, having a few new rifts to jar up for power later are useful and all, but that isn't exactly what I'm aiming for." As he trailed off his thought process, Tlopfest reached for a lever nearby that would begin the charging of everything. After a moment of checking everything one last time (he was somewhat of a worry wart sometimes), he pulled the lever and watched as the information on the screens showed the charging process.

A universe or two away, the sun had just begun to rise on the land of Tristan, home to one of the most prestigious magic academies – the Tristan Academy of Magic. Many nobles send their children here for them to learn more about their magic and how to harness it. Yet for one student, there has been nothing but trouble with her magic. On the shorter end of the spectrum at about 1.5 meters, long pink hair that reaches to her waist and a matching pair of pink eyes, Louise Françoise le Blanc de la Vallière was better known by her nickname to her classmates – Louise the Zero. Why zero? Because for all the effort that she put into her spells, nothing seemed to work. Every time she casts a spell, it backfires and causes an explosion at the object being cast upon. However, Louise still had some hope left in her – the springtime summoning ceremony. The day before she had boasted to her fellow classmates that she would summon "the most beautiful, divine, smart familiar that they have ever seen." Now though, standing with her classmates near the summoning area, she felt that she could do anything but that.

"Oh why did I have to say that" Louise thought to herself. As her classmates stepped up to the summoning area, each was able to summon their familiar. These ranged anywhere from dogs, cats, and birds, to some of the more strange and mystical creatures like a fire-breathing salamander, a giant blue dragon, or even just a floating eyeball.

"Has everyone gotten a chance to summon their familiar?" Professor Colbert, one of the teachers at the Academy, was overseeing the students doing the ritual and ensuring that they succeeded. He was bald and had his trademark purple cloak on, as well as holding his magical staff.

"Not everyone. Louise hasn't gone yet!" Kirche, a fairly tall and busty redhead that is also Louise's rival, quickly answered Colbert's call.

"Right then, Louise, please step up to the summoning area and perform the ritual."

"Dang it Zerbst, why did you have to do that?!" Louise was slightly panicking as she stepped up to the summoning area. Some of the other students and Colbert could see it as well, since Louise was somewhat shaky when stepping up to the area.

"Ms. Valliere, are you alright?" Colbert asked in a somewhat worried tone, seeing her nervousness get the better of her.

"I-I am just fine Professor Colbert. Just...psyching myself up for this" Louise answered calmly and tried to stop herself from shaking. Her classmate's snickering and mumblings didn't help though. "Alright, let's get this over with." With that final thought, Louise stuck out her wand and prepared to chant the spell.

Back with Tlopfest, the machines had finally finished charging and were ready to fire. Nodding in approval, Tlopfest stepped over to the main control panel and started to do some final checks on everything.

"All charged up on everything. No mobs spawning in the area, no other issues it seems…"

As he is doing this however, a voice seemed to be calling in his head.

"...lives...som..ere...verse"

"What the…?" Tlopfest turned around, trying to pinpoint the origin of the voice, yet no one was there. Checking the security cameras, no other entities besides his drones were in the lab. "Weird...guess my warp is acting up again.." Seeing as nothing else is happening, Tlopfest continues final preparations for the moment of truth when the voice comes back through.

"...sacred, beauti...strong familiar spirit!"

"OK, seriously, where is that coming from?" In his confusion, Tlopfest went ahead and pushed the button for the machine activation. "Oops. Well, at least everything seemed fine.." A second later, the beams from each of the machines struck out to the center of the pedestal. Just a split second before the beams collided though, one last burst of that voice came through.

"Here I desire ... plead from my h..rt! Answer my guidance!"

With that, a green oval appeared right at the collision point between the lasers, which was instantly shot with them. Quickly destabilizing, the alarms started to go off in the laboratory before Tlopfest could think.

"What in the name of-" But before he could finish that statement, a great explosion shook the ground around him, robbing him of his consciousness.

"...Answer my guidance!" The moment Louise uttered the last of her ritual statement, a green oval appeared in front of her for a second, before an explosion took its' place. The difference this time though was that it felt much, much more powerful than usual, knocking everyone away from the summoning area.

"What the heck was that?!" "Is everyone alright?"

Similar statements were asked about the group of students after a moment of coughing from the smoke that blanketed the area.

"Seriously Zero, even then you still couldn't do anything-" Before Guiche, a blonde male who was another one of Louise's classmates could finish, he and the other students noticed an extra silhouette besides Colbert, who somehow held up against the blast, and Louise picking herself up. As the smoke cleared, everyone around could see that somehow, Louise was successful...to an extent I suppose. Louise was the first to speak, approaching the figure to see what she had summoned, only to be somewhat disappointed at the result.

"This….this is my beautiful, strong familiar?! It's practically just a corpse!"

Said corpse however started to stir, getting up from the ground to observe just where he was.

"...what the Nether just happened?" Tlopfest uttered.

AN: Here we are, my first Fanfiction, and the first chapter in this whole ordeal. Thanks for giving this a shot, and I hope that you enjoyed it. There will be plenty more between this out-of-place pigman and Louise, so be sure to stick around.
