A Cops Dream
Chapter 6
Tim thought he heard people talking in the background, but he was so happy right now, this kiss meant everything to him that he completely ignored whoever was talking. Tim didn't want to leave go from Lucy, not know and not ever. Lucy also was enjoying this kiss, trying so hard not to ruin the moment but eventually she just needed air, so she pulled away from Tim.
Tim: You, okay?
Lucy: Yeah, I'm good, um just need a second to catch my breath a little bit
Tim: You sure you okay Luce? Your hearts racing
Lucy: That's cuz you're a good kisser
Tim: Lucy?
Lucy: Yeah
Tim: Was this too much?
Lucy: What? No Tim. I just It's been a long time since I kissed someone like that.
Tim: Lucy, I can't have you passing out on me again, can we just sit down for a minute please?
Lucy: Tim, it's been 12 years since you and I
Tim: I know Lucy, but I still have nightmares about what happened. Can you please just sit down.
Isabel: I thought your nightmares were because of the army
Tim: Isabel? What are you doing here?
Isabel: I came to check on my fiancé, to make sure you were okay.
Tim: How did you find me? I never told you where I was going.
Isabel: Tim, I don't think that matters right now does it?
Tim: Really? Then what does matter?
Isabel: That I just caught you kissing another woman two days before we are supposed to get married.
Tim: Isabel, Lucy is not another woman, she is my wife
Isabel: So that's how you are going to play this Tim?
Tim: Isabel, this isn't a game. Lucy and I are still married. What will happen between you and me going forward, I don't know.
Isabel: Tim you haven't seen Lucy in 12 years and now you are going to leave me for her?
Lucy: Isabel, Tim is not leaving you for me, I would never do that to you.
Isabel: So, is that why I saw you kissing my fiancé?
Lucy: Tim, I'm so sorry. I never meant to
Tim: Isabel stop! I want to know how you found this place.
Isabel: I'm guessing that you already know the answer to that question?
Tim: Maybe, but I want to hear you say it.
Isabel: Why do you care?
Tim: Like you said Isabel, you and I are supposed to be getting married in two days, but you don't trust me, you haven't for a while.
Isabel: That's not true Tim, of course I trust you.
Tim: Then why did you put a tracker on my phone?
Isabel: You know about that?
Tim: Of course, I do, Isabel.
Isabel: Then why didn't you say anything?
Tim: Isabel, I know that you haven't felt secure in our relationship for a while, and no, I don't know why you put it there, but I had nothing to hide.
Isabel: I put it there because I thought you were cheating on me, now I know that you were, and with my partner no less.
Tim: Okay Isabel. As you are very well aware I saw Lucy this morning for the first time in 12 years, and you thought I was cheating on you months ago, so if all you are going to do right now is yell at me, I think that you should leave.
Isabel: If I leave here without you Tim then you and I are over.
Angela: I think you and Tim were over the second he found out that Lucy still loves him.
Isabel: How dare you.
Angela: Just telling you the truth.
Genny: I think it was over as soon as Tim found out he was still legally married to Lucy
Isabel: Genny, I think you are saying this because you never wanted me to marry your brother.
Genny: No Isabel, it's not that I didn't want you to marry my brother, I knew you were not going to be able to marry him because he was still married, I just didn't realize he didn't know that when he proposed to you.
Tim: Guy's stop! Isabel, can I talk to you for a minute alone?
Isabel: Sure.
Tim: Lucy, I just want to quickly talk to Isabel and then I will come back here so we can finish our conversation
Lucy: That's okay Tim. I get it.
Tim: Angela, please make sure that Lucy stays sitting and can you get her water and food from my trunk.
Lucy: Tim, I'll be okay for a couple of minutes
Tim: I know, I just. Lucy, every time I close my eyes, I can still picture it, losing you, I just can't go through that again.
Lucy: I get it Tim.
Tim: I know you do Lucy. Are you sure you will be okay until I get back?
Angela: She'll be fine Tim. Go talk to Isabel.
Tim hesitantly walked away from Lucy, looking behind him to make sure she was really okay without him. He knew that it had been so long since her heart had given out on him, but he was still so nervous about it. Tim knew that she had been okay without him for so long and that she didn't need him hovering over her, but he couldn't help himself, being here with her like this it brough back all the memories, everything they had been through together, the good and the bad. Tim took one last backwards glance at Lucy before facing Isabel in front of him.
Tim: Isabel
Isabel: Tim please, this can't be it for you and me.
Tim: I'm afraid its been over for a while Isabel
Isabel: Tim, don't say that. Look you and Lucy can get divorced, we can still get married.
Tim: What if I don't want to divorce Lucy?
Isabel: What are you saying Tim of course you do.
Tim: Isabel, you put that tracker on my phone because you didn't trust me and you had every right not too because while I slept next to you in our bed I was dreaming of another woman, I was dreaming of Lucy.
Isabel: Tim you are just being crazy now.
Tim: No, Isabel. Me being crazy was believing that you and I could ever have what I had with Lucy.
Isabel: Tim, please.
Tim: No Isabel. I'm done, we're over.
Isabel: I can't believe that you would treat me like this.
Tim: The last thing I want is to hurt you Isabel, and I'm really sorry but I am still deeply in love with Lucy.
Tim watched Isabel walk away from him and get into her car and drive off. He felt bad for hurting her, but he felt lighter and happier than he had in a really long time. Tim looked over towards where Lucy was sitting with the other women, and he walked towards them as they were talking.
Tamara: Okay Lucy, spill. You are the strongest most amazing woman I have ever known, so why was Tim treating you like you are fragile porcelain china doll and why were you letting him?
Lucy: It's complicated and not something I like to talk about.
Tamara: Clearly. I have known you for ten years and not once have you ever mentioned anything about your heart or hospitals so what was he talking about?
Lucy: Tamara, that's not true, you know about the panic attacks.
Tamara: Clearly you misguided me as you led me to believe those attacks started after your husband died and if Tim knows about them then they started while you were in high school.
Lucy: Tamara, It's been a really long and stressful day and Tim is right, I need to take it easy and not add to the stress by talking about this.
Tamara: Genny do you know what this is about?
Genny: I do, but it is not my story to tell, unless Lucy is okay with it?
Tamara: Lucy?
Lucy: Tim told you what happened?
Genny: Yeah, I'm sorry. He made me promise not to tell you.
Lucy: He told me he never told anyone.
Genny: When he came home from the hospital that night all covered in mud and blood, I forced him to tell me what happened, or I was going to tell mom and dad that Tim was out past curfew.
Lucy: He told you everything, everything?
Genny: I don't know Lucy. He told me where he was that night and then it was something we never spoke about, not him not you, no one. And in school all they said was that you were sick, and no one questioned that.
Lucy: Okay, I guess the short version of the story is that I went on a date with a serial killer who tried to kill me. He tied me up, threw me in a barrel and buried me in the ground.
Tamara: Oh my god! Lucy, I'm so sorry.
Genny: Tim told me that because your parents were, shall we say challenging Tim made you promise to text him whenever you got home safely and that night, he never got a text from you, so he was worried.
Lucy: That's what Tim told me
Tamara: So how did Tim find you?
Tim: When I called the police, they said that teenage girls from abusive homes run away all the time and that if she was still missing in three days I should come back. But I knew Lucy, she wouldn't run away, not from me. So, I looked for her myself, I followed the clues and eventually I found her buried in the ground. When I took her out, she wasn't breathing, and when the paramedics came, they told me she was gone, that there was nothing left they could do. I didn't listen and continued with CPR. Eventually I found a pulse and they were able to nurse her back to health.
Lucy: But my heart had stopped for too long, and it was permanently damaged. I had a heart transplant but since then Tim has always been very nervous and worried.
Angela: I would be nervous and worried also if I found Wesley like that.
Lucy: I don't blame him, which to answer your question Tamara, is why I let him treat me like that. I know what it did to him, finding me in the barrel like that, sitting next to me in the hospital waiting for the doctors. If making sure I'm okay calms him down, then I let him do that.
Tim: And I appreciate you letting me, Lucy. I know it's been so long, and I should get over it, but
Lucy: I get it Tim. Seeing you alive after all these years makes me want to put you in a bubble and never let you out of my sight again.
Tim: Lucy, you have nothing to worry about, I never plan on leaving your side again.
Lucy: What about Isabel?
Tim: I told her it's over; we're done.
Lucy: Tim!
Tim: Lucy, Genny was right, as soon as Wesley told me that you and I are still married, I knew that I wanted to figure out a way to fix our relationship and make this marriage work.
Lucy: Tim, nothing would make me happier than to be with you forever.
Tim: But?
Lucy: There are still so many things I don't understand
Tim: Like?
Lucy: The annulment papers for one
Tim: Genny clear to clarify that one?
Genny: One day i received a letter in the mail that was addressed to Lucy but came back as return to sender
Lucy: If Tim sent it why did it get returned to you?
Tim: I put my parents' address on all the letters I wrote to you while I was overseas.
Genny: I guess I have one more confession to make today
Tim: Genny?
Genny: All the letters you sent to Lucy came back as return to sender
Tim: Wait, all this time you knew Lucy didn't get any of my letters?
Genny: Yup
Tim: Why didn't you tell me that? I was upset for months that she didn't come to hangar when I came home. I asked you so many times if you knew what happened to her? Why didn't you tell me that you got the letters and not her?
Genny: When I first started getting the letters, I thought it was a mistake and I put them in a box, planning to give them to Lucy the next time she came home on break. When I got the annulment papers, I was shocked and surprised, for one, you never told me you married her and two I always believed that the two of you would end up together.
Tim: And?
Genny: When I saw that you had both signed it I started to believe that Lucy didn't want anything to do with you and your letters getting sent back was not by mistake but believing that you two were soulmates I decided not to send in the annulment papers knowing that it would force you two to talk about it if and when one of you would decide to remarry at a later date.
Tim: Genny, I was supposed to marry Isabel in two days, don't you think you should have mentioned to me at some point that I was still married to Lucy?
Genny: I wanted to Tim, but I was scared of what you were going to say if you found out that I was the one who screwed up.
Tim: The only one who screwed up here was the person who kept Lucy and me apart for 12 years, not the one who enabled us to still be married.
Lucy: You really mean that Tim? You really want to still be married to me?
Tim: Lucy, I thought you understood by now that I never wanted to get the annulment, I never wanted to not be married to you.
Lucy: Then why did you sign the annulment papers?
Tim: I only signed them because they had your signature on them and Lucy, as much as it killed me to sign them, all I've ever wanted for you, more than anything I have ever wanted for myself was for you to be happy and if you didn't want to be married to me, I wasn't going to force you.
Lucy: Fine, then why after everything that happened, everything we had promised each other, why did you tell me to go home with my father?
Tim: I was young and stupid and in that moment your father made me believe that letting you go was what was best for you. Lucy, if I had only known that it would be 12 years before I got to see you, hold you and kiss you again I would have never let you go.
Lucy: Tim, I so badly want to believe everything you are saying, really, I do.
Tim: But
Lucy: If what you are saying is true and you really did love me and want to be married to me, then why did your lieutenant come and tell me that you were gone? Tim, why did you make me go to the funeral, watch you get buried, Tim I just don't understand how someone who claims to love me as much as I thought you did would you want me to believe for 12 years that you were dead.
