Meeting The Gilmore's
Pairing: Rory/Finn
Summary: Richard and Emily are back from their summer trip and Rory is bringing a guest to dinner.
Rory POV
Grandma had called. She told me that she and Grandpa were back from their trip and that they wanted to have dinner with me. Most likely it was because of two things. The first being that they had presents for me from their trip and two because they were probably worried about me from my break up with Logan. I told Grandma that I'd love to have dinner with them, that I had some news of my own. She seemed excited and then I told her I was bringing a guest for dinner. She tried to get me to tell her who, but I wouldn't budge. It was going to be a night of surprises.
When Finn and I pulled into the grandparents driveway I saw Mom's car. Well at least she'd be here tonight. Finn grabbed my hand and gently squeezed it. "It'll be fine." He said and I nodded.
We climbed out of the car and made our way to the front door where I rang the bell. The maid opened the door and told us that everyone was in the sitting room. I took one last deep breath before I led Finn to the sitting room. "Good evening everyone." I said.
"Hey Ror." Mom said.
"Rory!" Grandma exclaimed. "It's so good to see you." She said. "Who's your friend?" She asked.
"Grandma, Grandpa, Mom…I'd like to introduce Finn Morgan." I said, before Finn and I joined Mom on the couch.
"Morgan? Any relation to Finnegan Morgan?" Grandpa asked.
"My father sir." Finn answered.
"He's a great man. I know him well. I handled his insurance policies for many years before I retired." Grandpa said.
"He's mentioned you over the years sir, he values your friendship." Finn told him.
"And Alicia? How is she?" Grandma asked.
"Very well. They're in Australia at the moment. So my father has left the family business in my capable hands." Finn told them.
"Well, I'm sure that your doing a fine job." Grandpa said.
"Now how did you two meet?" Grandma asked.
Here we go. "We met at Yale, Grandma. Finn was a year ahead of me. He graduated with Logan and Colin." I said.
Grandma nodded. Obviously trying to connect the dots. "So, your friends with Logan?" She asked.
"Yes, Ma'am. Logan, Colin and I have been friends for a long time. We went to boarding school together." Finn told her.
Grandma nodded. "It really was a shame that you and Logan couldn't work things out." Grandma said.
"Mom!" Mom said.
"Grandma, there are things about my relationship Logan that you didn't know. Logan and I couldn't have worked things out." I told her.
"Like what? All things can be worked out." She said.
"Neither of us were happy. Logan was cheating on me and I was cheating on. I fell in love with someone else." I told her.
Grandma nodded again. She pointed at Finn. "With?"
I nodded. "Yes. Finn and I started as friends. He helped me when Logan went to London. I was in a bad place. Over time the feelings that Finn and I had for each other changed. At some point we fell in love. When Logan proposed I was never planning on saying yes Grandma. The fact that Logan humiliated me only made it worse." I said.
Grandma sat there looking at me, her face void of any emotion. "So now what? I'm guessing that the two of you are together now?" She asked.
I nodded. "Yes, even though I know that you will be disappointed, Finn and I have been together for a while. We have moved in together into a townhouse in New York." I said. I knew she'd have more questions.
"What about working Rory?" Grandpa asked.
"I have taken a public relations job with Finn's family. As soon as his father met me and read some of my articles, he decided that I was perfect for the job." I told him.
Grandpa nodded. "And this is what you want?" He asked me.
I looked over at Finn who just smiled at me. I smiled back before turning back to Grandpa. I nodded at him. "It is. You remember how much you loved traveling but then how excited you were when you got the opportunity to teach at Yale?" I asked him. He nodded. "It's like that. Yes, I want to travel, but I'm also excited to see where things go with Finn. And with this job, I can still travel. I'm mean granted Finn and I can pretty much go wherever we want. I just want us to do it together." I rambled.
I noticed that Grandpa smiled. "I just want you to be happy with whatever you do, Rory. I don't want you to feel like your settling." Grandpa said.
I shook my head. "I'm not. And I am happy." I said.
The five of us sat there in silence before the maid came in and announced dinner.
After dinner and dessert, Mom, Finn and I were standing in the driveway. "Well that could've gone worse." Mom said.
I glared at her. "How do you figure?" I asked.
"Grandma could have yelled at you." She said.
"That's true. And she didn't interrogate Finn like she could have. So I think that's a plus." I added.
The three of us stood there and laugh. Mom and I hugged before we went our separate ways. Overall not a bad night.
