Meeting the Dad
Pairing: Rory/Finn

Rory POV
It's been six months since I graduated. Finn and I have gotten into a nice routine. We get up, have breakfast, go to work, come home, have dinner, go to bed. Except on Fridays when we have dinner with the grandparents and Sundays when we have brunch with his family. I feel like my life is going exactly like I want it too.
I was sitting in my office when my cell rang. I looked at it. It was my dad. I quickly answered. "Hey dad." I said, leaning back in my chair.
"Hey kiddo. Your mom said you moved to New York." He said.
"Yeah I did, right after graduation." I told him.
"And she mentioned a new boyfriend."
"Uh-huh."
"Well, I'm in New York for the week, I'd like to meet him." Dad said.
"Okay." I said, slightly confused. "Let me know what night you guys are available and I can make reservations." Dad said.
"Sure." I told him. The call ended quickly after that.
When lunch time rolled around, I headed towards Finn's office to see if he wanted to grab lunch with him. Some days he did, some days he didn't have time. I lightly knocked on his open door. He looked up at me. "Hey you." He said.
"Hey. You got time for lunch today?" I asked him.
He nodded. "Yeah. What you thinking?" He asked.
"I was thinking about that Deli down the street." I said.
"Sure let's go." He said.
We had just sat down with our lunch. "So, my dad called a bit ago." I said.
"How'd that go? I know it's been away since you've talked to him." Finn said.
"Mom told him that I moved to New York and that I had a new boyfriend. I guess he's playing the Dad card. He wants to meet you." I told him as I unwrapped my sub.
"When?" He asked.
"He said to pick a night that worked for us and he'd make reservations." I said.
"We could do it tomorrow night. I mean we're only working a half day anyway." Finn said.
"Sure." I smiled at him.
When I got back to my office, I called Dad and told him that Finn and I could meet him for dinner the following night.
The following night, Finn and I walked into the restaurant and quickly found my dad. "Hi dad." I greeted him.
"Hey kiddo." He said.
"Dad, this is Finn Morgan. Finn, this is my dad…Christopher Hayden." I said, slightly nervous.
"It's nice to meet you Mr. Hayden." Finn said as we sat down.
"Call me Chris. Mr. Hayden was my father." Dad said and I rolled my eyes.
The waiter came and took our order. When he walked away, the conversation picked back up. "So, Dad what brings you to New York?" I asked him.
"Your grandmother mostly. She ordered some things and asked me to pick them up." Dad said. I had a feeling that he wasn't being completely honest but I wasn't going to question it. "So, your mom mentioned some big fancy job." Dad said.
I nodded. "Yeah, I'm working as Public Relations and Media Consultant for Morgan Industries." I told him. Part of me hopes that he doesn't make the connection.
"Morgan Industries? The big hotel chain?" Dad asked. I nodded. "Wait, isn't your last name Morgan?" He asked looking at Finn.
We both nodded. "Yeah. It's my family's company." Finn said.
Dad nodded. He was quiet for a minute. "I didn't think that you wanted to be handed a job?"
"I wasn't. Finn's father read some of my articles in the Yale Daily News and thought that I was a perfect fit for the company. He offered me the job before he even knew that Finn and I were dating." I told him.
The waiter brought our drinks and told us that our food would be out shortly. "So, tell me more about this job?" He asked.
"Basically I'm in charge of all things media related. I handle the website, press announcements, and in addition to that I get to travel with Finn to all of the hotels to be able to add information to our website as well as the hotel brochures." I told Dad.
"Sounds like a big job." Dad said.
"It is but I love it." I told him. "We're actually working on starting a magazine. Finn's dad thinks that we could include things about all of our hotels. Even things nearby the hotels that our guests might find interesting." I said, taking a drink of my wine.
"That's awesome Ror. I'm really proud of you." Dad said.
"Thanks Dad." I said. "You know, when I was at Yale, I kept thinking about what I wanted to do with my degree. It was always assumed that I would go into print journalism. I never considered being a publicist. Hell, Mom's called a few times to get my opinion on a few things that she wants to do for the Inn."
"And your boss is okay with that?" Dad asked.
I nodded. "Oh yeah. See the thing is, if I was at a newspaper and I offered advice to someone else, it would be grounds for termination. But with my job with Morgan Industries, Mr. Morgan is glad to lend me to Mom when she needs help. Their family isn't like most of the ones in Hartford. Their family is more like ours. The whole family works for the company." I told him.
"Really?" He asked.
Finn and I both nodded. "Sure. My dad is obviously the CEO with me named as Vice President. I am also head of the Entertainment division. My mother takes care of all of the decorating for the offices and the hotels. She hand-picked everything. My sister heads up the offices that we have in Australia." Finn told him. "We're a very relaxed family."
"That's incredible." Dad said. "Have they met Luke and Lorelai yet?"
I shook my head. "No we haven't been able to make schedules line up. Finn's parents are currently in Australia visiting his sister and grandparents. They did however invite all of us for Thanksgiving." I told him.
"That's nice." He said.
"Will you be able to join us?" Finn asked.
"Me? Oh I'm not sure. I know Gigi is spending thanksgiving in Paris with Sherry. So it'll just be Mom and I, and I don't about leaving her alone during the holiday." Dad said.
I looked at Finn and he nodded. I turned back to Dad. "Bring her." I said.
Dad looked surprised. "Are you sure? I mean, shouldn't you talk to Finn's parents about it first?"
I shook my head. "Nope. Alicia said that I was welcome to invite anyone that I wanted. She just told me to let her know who all was coming." I told him. I'd gotten really close with Alicia since Finn had introduced us. It was nice, especially since I didn't get to see Mom as much as I wanted.
"Okay, well I'll talk with Mom and ask her about it." Dad said.
"Good. We'd be happy to have you." Finn said right as the waiter brought out our food.
During the rest of dinner, conversation seemed to flow pretty easily. During dessert however is when things really got heated. "So, I know that we've a good dinner so I hate to ask but how did this come about? I mean how did you guys meet?" Dad asked.
I sighed, sitting my fork down. "Finn and I met through Logan. He's one of Logan's best friends. While Logan was in London he asked Finn and his other best friend Colin to keep an eye of me knowing that it was gonna be hard for me. When after a couple of months, Finn got tired of me moping, so he decided to get me out of the apartment one night a week to take my mind off things. At first it was just little things, some nights we went to the pub and other nights we just had a movie night at his apartment. Somewhere between the time that Logan left for London and Thanksgiving, Finn and I had grown closer…we fell in love with each other. When Logan proposed at my graduation party, I felt so humiliated I had spent months trying to end things, but I could never find the right time. The morning of my graduation, I met Logan for breakfast and give him back the engagement ring." I told Dad.
"Wow kid, that's some story." Dad said.
"I know. So the after graduation, Finn and I headed to the hollow and he met mom and we boxed up the rest of my stuff there and we moved into a townhouse here in the city." I said.
"I'm just glad you're happy. That's all I want." Dad said.
I nodded. "I am happy."
